We had a Sunday lunch here back in April. Old Town was our last stop before heading home to Las Vegas. It was a really nice time. The food and service were good. I remember the waiter giving the perfect attentiveness to letting us chill service. I don't love dining al fresco usually, but the semi-indoor of Casa de Reyes was working for me that day. Light breeze. Warm. We had a walk around afterward, got some candies and SD trinkets. Old Town was a a sweet end to a great trip.

Atmosphere was great. Right in the middle of a very cute and decorated plaza. Surrounded by a lot of little shops. Waitress was really nice. Food was okay. The food and drinks were a bit overpriced for what it was. Probably won't go back.

First time visiting Casa De Reyes. We stumbled on this plaza as we were following the live music. I honestly never seen or been to this plaza. It's so cute! So many small shops, from olive oil to chocolate. It was very busy when we visited as the Cinco de mayo festival was happening. We still only waited about 8 minutes for a table. Our waiter came soon and we quickly put our order in. The food came out just as quick! I had the surf and turf. The meat was good, nice and charred. The shrimp were wrapped in bacon and although good I decided to share them. The pico de gallo came with some nopales (cactus) which reminded me how good nopales are! The frijoles puercos were definitely tasty but not needed with this very flavor forward meal. Unfortunately the corn tortillas were a bit of a disappointment, mainly bc they were on the thicker/bigger side and got cold pretty quick. The pork with salsa verde dish was really good. The pork perfectly cooked. Note: definitely order the freshly made flour tortillas when dining here. The have a lot of fun margaritas to choose from. I feel like you can't go wrong. The staff is friendly, the food is good, and the atmosphere is lively.

Today I just felt like being a tourist and hit all the spots you're supposed to visit when you go to san diego! Lol. Ive lived here 30 years and many things have changed or it doesn't have the spark and gatherings it used to have. I remember going to old town and it being more lively and festive. Now its quiet and not as robust as it was before covid. However, I see where all the people went. They are all at the casa de Reyes restaurant where the live band is! I really enjoyed myself here. Ive eaten here a long time ago and had the tortillas made by the women in that little area. Now, it is different. You order through the bar for the food and drinks. It was really nice bc I didn't have to sit down and eat. I went straight to the bar and ordered my long Island iced tea double shot. It was 20$. Im not used to paying for drinks so I was shocked at alcoholic beverage prices! Nonetheless, my drink was tasty and very enjoyable. The bartenders here are very nice and fast at making drinks! The sweet part was I was able to take my drink to the benches in front of the live band. It was a great atmosphere and lovely Latin music. Its just a great time here at casa de reyes.

Service was friendly and quick. The sample platter was what you expect from a Mexican restaurant with your helping of nachos, quesadilla and taquitos. Nothing that stoodout.

First time here while visiting the Midway Museum with family, and we were looking for a good Mexican restaurant. We found this place on Yelp because of the great reviews, and it definitely lived up to the hype! We ordered a combination of different dishes, and everyone in our party loved everything. Great food, great experience, and we would definitely come back next time we're in the area.

Great food and service in the heart of Old Town.. chips and salsa provided the moment we sat down

It's just okay to dinne in here, not a perfect clean place but it's a good spot in the middle of the little shopping stores and we could enjoy with show. (Mexican tradition dance) Came here on Halloween, it's kinda crazy packed up and long line to get the seats. Foods are decent compared to other modern Mexican restaurants. Service is okay, due to holiday season. However, we did enjoy our meals.

Came here with a group for networking. Super cute outdoor patio seating with a a lot of cute shops surrounding the area. 3.5/5 Guacamole & chips. Creamy guac with decent flavor and portion. 4.5/5 Chile relleno à la carte - giant serving and good flavor. 3.5/5 quesadilla w/carne asada. Jack and cheddar cheese. Fairly average but nothing special. 4/5 vanilla cream churros - filled with a cream and came with chocolate dipping sauce. Extremely tasty! Came on a Sunday afternoon and they had live folklorico dance performances going on, which was fun to watch. Manager and staff service was excellent as there was a mix up with the event we were attending and they were all eager to help!

Low quality Food , we did not like it . The food quality was disappointing and did not meet our expectations. our family did not enjoy the meal. We would not return.

We had a lovely dinner on a beautiful night. Our server was very friendly and was happy to make suggestions. Our food became out pretty rapidly and was delicious. I had the two taco combo with fish and shrimp. I was getting later on in the night and our server had a lot of tables to wait on so we never really got any refills on our drinks but other than that, everything was great. The atmosphere of the entire area is outstanding. A perfect night to have a wonderful conversation and delicious food.

2026 updated review. Service and food was great like previous visits. They had live music this past Saturday. Only had to wait about 15 minutes on a busy night. The only negative was receiving 2 corn tortillas with the plate. For the amount of food on the plate I think they should give you at least 3-4.

We asked to be put on a waitlist and was told to that we would need to wait 30-40 minutes. We gave the hostess our name and number for 3 people. We decided to wait for about 50 minutes to an hour at the fire pit. The music and ambiance were nice, and we checked out the small stores in the meantime. When we went back to check in, we were informed by a different hostess that there was a problem with the system and that our information was lost. She told us that the cut off to order food was 9:45 pm, but then told us that we could get on the waitlist again, but that it would take 20 minutes. By the time we would get a table we wouldn't be able to order any food. It was unfortunate because we were looking forward to eating there for our first day of girl trip. We also saw people getting tables after 5 minutes of waiting. We decided to leave and find dominos pizza instead. Overall, we recommend making a reservation online over joining the waitlist.

Ask the Community - Casa De Reyes

I know this place used to be jerks about dogs, but a recent reviewer mentioned it as dog friendly, and the Yelp page says dogs allowed. Can anyone confirm that the policy changed and that they DO allow dogs?

When I was there last November for Dia de Los Muertos, there were lots of dogs. People asked if dogs were allowed and they said yes. Maybe it's different now. Might want to give them a jingle. 619-297-3100

Do you have Mariachis that walk around the tables and sing on Saturday s for dinner? Specifically for June 11, 2022?

Every weekend I have been there, mariachis were there going around table to table.. I would call the restaurant to be sure that they will be there on that specific date....

    Do they take reservations?

No. First come, first served basis.

Can this restaurant accommodate large parties (20) and is it kid friendly for an early dinner?

    Yes

    Is this restaurant dog friendly?

At the moment there is a section that is Dog Friendly because of Covid.

Is this establishment take out only?

I was there in August and there was dine-in. The entire restaurant is outdoors.

Does casa de Reyes allow dogs?

    No Dogs

    Is the patio dog friendly?

Not sure, I did not see any dogs. It's was super crowded and people were dancing.

Is there anything you can or can't do for birthdays? Ie balloons, decorations, flowers, cake?

I see people with balloons, decorations and even their own cake all the time. There's an indoor area and I've seen people have sign boards for their parties but they probably reserve the room.

Is there live music during lunch on the weekend?

Yes we go often and they normally have music and traditional dance shows.

Is there usually a long wait for lunch on the weekend?

The wait is always long on the weekends no matter what time you go, the parking lot is full too. It's better to go on the weekdays after 2pm.

    Is there any parking?

The parking is shared with Old Town. I have rarely had trouble parking reasonably close.

Do they accept Synergy gift cards?

Good afternoon - yes we do!

Kid friendly? We have a 6, 4, and 2 year old?

Yes nice outdoor patio with chips to keep the little ones entertained;)

Is there an indoor eating area in the event of inclement weather?

    I'm almost positive there isn't.

    Is the patio dog-friendly?

    I don't think so.

Beware there's only street parking, no valet service (unless you're a hotel guest), so that can present a challenge. Reservations a MUST on weekends, especially with a group. Now for the food reviews. Everything we ordered was delicious from the squash blossom and smashed tuna tartare appetizers to the El Festin platter (made for groups) . Since the main dining area is kept dark for the dramatic gothic effect, it's tricky to rely on your sense of sight for the presentation of each of the dish. The highlight for me was the chili garlic shrimp tacos. So full of flavor! The only drawback is that many of their dishes are made with nuts. So if you have a nut allergy, which one of us in our group did, the menu was limiting. Overall, it's an incredible place for first timers and out-of- towners. I might return for a special celebration, but not repeatedly. Once is good enough experience, especially with so many other special dining options in our fine city.

Delicious food, great view, and wonderful hospitality!…read more On our last evening in San Diego, we went to Coasterra to wrap up our vacation there. This restaurant came highly recommended by major Visit San Diego websites, and we felt we should give it a try. Located right next to the water, the restaurant offers expansive view of the harbor and the San Diego skyline. Sitting is about 50/50 indoor vs. outdoor, and we chose the indoor sitting as it tended to get colder in the evening. Parking is available out front, but we took Lyft there. We came in around Happy Hour, and we were able to score two appetizers for $11 each. We got fried calamari and fish cervice as appetizers. For entree, we had the fish tacos and scallops. Both of the appetizers were excellent, and the cervice was so light and flavorful. My husband loved his scallop entree, and the taste and presentation were original and outstanding. My fish taco was enjoyable as well. For dessert, we had fresh churro that was paired with ice cream, which was excellent as well. Our meal came to $143 with taxes, which was a very good value with the quality and services offered. Our waiter was attentive and friendly, which made us felt right at home. As for the ambiance, it felt modern and relaxed. There were diverse customers from locals, tourists, and business people. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience and we will return.
