Went there on Wednesday, happened to be during SD Restaurant Week. We ordered the Beef Cheek and Beet Salad appetizers; both were delicious but the Beef Cheeks were melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The Flank Steak was cooked to perfection (just over medium-well but not well) and the King Salmon was to die for. The broccolini was my favorite side, as it had this spicy aioli that was different but amazing. The mashed potatoes were whipped perfectly and had the perfect amount of garlic (I'm a garlicky girl so the more the better!) My waitress Riva was the absolute BEST! Everything she recommended was perfect. From the steak, to the drinks, and even the dessert. She provided the best service and whenever I go back, I hope I'm seated in her section. Presentation-wise, both steaks looked fantastic. Beautifully plated, great char, and definitely had that "this is going to be amazing" appearance. But flavor-wise, I thought they were just okay. The steaks were cooked well and enjoyable, but neither really had that wow factor I was hoping for. For a restaurant where steak is such a big part of the meal, I expected the flavors to be a little more memorable. The empanadas were probably my favorite thing we ordered. The pastry was crispy and golden, the filling was flavorful, and they came with a side of chimichurri that added a nice fresh, herby element. I would definitely order these again. We also tried dessert, which was one of those layered desserts with different textures and flavors throughout. This was actually really good. I loved getting a little bit of everything in each bite, and it was a nice way to end the meal. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience at Piedra Santa. The venue is gorgeous, the presentation is beautiful, and there were definitely some standouts, especially the empanadas and dessert. I just wanted a little more from the steaks. The transformation from the Bayside bar and restaurant to Piedra Santa is amazing. The restaurant looks modern, upscale, and the decor is well done. Overall, we had a mixed experience. Something's were great. Others meh. I think they were having an issue with their HVAC as it was not a hot evening but it was really hot at our table with minimal airflow. Our server seemed to know her stuff, had opinions (which we solicited and appreciated) and upsold like a champ. So good on her. Food & bev wise, we had hear the tuna tartare was amazing from friends who had been already so that was on our list. Very good. I did enjoy that. We also got the tuna crudo and I thought that one outshined the tartare but again both were good. We also had the beef carpaccio which not only was surprisingly tasty, they prepared it table side which was really fun. (They also have a table side thing they do for the tomahawk. I love a little fire ) The Bife Ancho was recommended by our server so I got that. I thought it was good and liked that it was served with a roasted garlic clove. I got it cooked medium rare and it came out pretty close to medium rare so I was happy. One friend got the Entraña and another the 28 days Aged prime 20 oz rib-eye. Both of the. Ordered it medium rare and it came out almost well and they were very disappointed but did not say anything unfortunately. The lamb dish aka Cordero was also well liked. When we talked about it with the server before ordering she was clear it was very pistachio forward due to the crust. My friend really likes pistachio so she went for it and she did enjoy it. The special of Lobster spaghetti was suggested over the lobster ravioli so we went that route. Not sure if this will be available on other visits as it was a special but if it is be prepared to get messy. The tail part was easy to get the meat out of but the claw. It was up to the diner to use the cracker to break into it but it is covered in the spicy tomatoey sauce so it was slippery and just coated anyone who attempted to helps hands. Be prepared. lol. All the sides are à la carte and the fries, mashed potatoes and Mac & cheese were all good. The mashed potatoes came with garlic adorning it so that was cool. The noodles in the Mac and cheese were a bit over cooked so a bit softer than our table would have liked, but I thought the flavor of the sauce was really flavorful so I still liked it. A big thing to know, they will charge you 3% for using a credit card to pay them. And it looks like they will charge you tax on that as well. This is a nuisance fee. When guests are dropping ~$150+ a person for a nice meal that is the cost of doing business. For a meal at this level, it feels poor form on behalf of the business. It is a detractor. I worked in the service industry for 14 years and understand business is hard. I don't think it's reasonable to expect folks to roll in with $500-$700 cash or more to avoid a taxable fee. IMO it left a bad taste and did so for the rest of our party as well. I would think twice about bringing any business dinners or out of town guests now. read more

This is a really cute restaurant with great service, but unfortunately gets 3 stars from me simply because for a steakhouse, our steaks were awful. Our party consisted of 5 adults- 4 of us ordered steaks and one ordered the pork chop. All of our steaks were under-seasoned and undercooked. One of the steaks even got sent back because it was soo rare in the middle (it was suppose to be cooked medium). The pork chop was also over cooked and very tough. Empanadas at a steakhouse? Definitely an unexpected pairing, but in the best way. I stopped by for happy hour (4-6:30 p.m.) with an OpenTable reservation and was seated on the covered patio. Since it was my friend's birthday, the restaurant welcomed us with a thoughtful celebration card. They have great happy hour and a good SDRW prix fixe menu. The empanadas came three for $15, and they were packed with flavorful meat that paired perfectly with the accompanying chimichurri. Service was friendly and prompt, and I'd definitely return to try more. The Carne Asada Benedict swaps the traditional English muffin for corn cake and pairs seasoned beef and poached eggs with poblano sauce and pico de gallo. The Breakfast Carbonara was rich and satisfying with crispy pork belly, poached egg and Calabrian chili oil, while the Milanesa a Caballo featured breaded beef milanesa topped with eggs. We ended with the Dulce de Leche French Toast and vanilla cream foam, which was the perfect sweet finish. Piedra Santa has a beautiful atmosphere and a brunch menu that feels much more distinctive than the typical weekend lineup. Called to make a lunch reservation for 2 to celebrate a Military Chief's promotion. Arrived a little earlier but had no problem getting seated right away. We were offered sparkling water and a complimentary white wine. Breakfast menu was still being served around 11:30, the full dinner menu was not available but it worked out as we went there for their steaks which was available. We ordered a 44oz tomahawk with chimichurri and a lobster roll with fries. The presentation from the cutting in front of the customer to firing up the hot plate was amazing and entertaining. I was honestly so impressed with this place! I've walked by it many times, especially at night when it always looks cute and busy, but I recently noticed they also serve breakfast/brunch and decided to give it a try for a special birthday celebration with one of my girlfriends. First off, the interior of Piedra Santa is stunning! So many details, and textures to take in. They play a mix of modern electronic chill music so we immediately felt at home. It paired so well with their outstanding beef tartare which came with a bone marrow gravy, delicious. Additionally we couldn't resist an order of empanadas. Pork, chicken and beef, while all tasty, the beef had me falling in love. Continuing our next course, we shared the tuna crudo. While beautifully presented, the amount and strength of the sauce almost overwhelmed the delicate flavor of the fish. Almost. Wedge salad was solid as well as their charred Caesar. For dinner I had their filet special. A filet mignon cooked to a perfect medium rare, topped with two tender seared jumbo sea scallops, then a pile of French fried onions and a rich and creamy mushroom sauce. What a gorgeous dish that hit all the right notes, so indulgent. Some honorable mentions; don't sleep on the beef cheek atop a creamy pool of cauliflower puree. Deep, rich beefy flavor, could have made this an entree. A close second was their pappardelle wagyu ragu, simply prepared but oh-so decadent. With style, service and excellent cookery I'm smitten! This is a great spot for happy hour for a group since they have a good variety of shareable appetizers as well as entrees on their happy hour menu! Our table ordered the tuna tartare, braised beef cheek, and pappardelle to share, and I enjoyed all the dishes. The tuna tasted fresh, the beef cheek was tender, and the pappardelle was well cooked with just the right texture and chew. This place is normally on the pricier side, but I think the happy hour prices made things more worth it. We also ordered the artisan rustic bread to share among the table, but unfortunately it never came by the time we finished our meal (even after multiple reminders), so we ended up just cancelling it. The ambiance was amazing and the food was great, but unfortunately, the service completely ruined the experience for us. Our waiter was extremely inattentive throughout most of the dinner. We spent a lot of the night sitting there watching him be attentive to other tables while barely checking on us. We were the only Black people in the restaurant, which in itself was not an issue, but the difference in the level of service we received compared to other guests was very noticeable and disappointing. The worst part was when our food was bagged up. Instead of handing us our bags, our waiter placed both of our bags on the ground. I have dined at plenty of restaurants, including fine dining restaurants, and I have never had a server place my food on the floor instead of handing it to me. I still left $20 because I generally tip 20% or more, but honestly, the service did not warrant it. Our dinner felt unnecessarily dragged out because of how inattentive our waiter was, and by the end, we were ready to leave. My partner and I make it a point to fine dine at least once a week, so we have experienced plenty of excellent service. Unfortunately, this was not one of those experiences. What really disappointed me was the ribeye. We asked for medium rare and as you can see in the photo, it was more like medium well... and we should've sent it back but didn't want to ruin the mood so we ate it. But I feel like at this price point my expectation for that ribeye was very high. Overall, I still really like this restaurant but maybe I give up on ordering steak here after two bad experiences with steak here now. First time I seen this restaurant wife and I walked by it thinking this is a cute little spot, and we somehow ended up here for our anniversary. They do offer wheelchair access, so just in case is anyone wants to know they can accommodate. Wife and I sat I the happy hour area, and the menu for the happy hour honestly was really good for what you pay for. They even have bottles on the menu for wine for like $25. I would recommend the tuna tartar, the sauce tastes really good and if you get the bread dip it into the sauce it makes a great flavor. We also had the beef cheek and the meat was very tender and the mash was very delicious. I would say next time I would order a salad as well as we did not order one this time but it's not on the happy hour menu but we saw someone next to us order one and it looked really good. It's great that happy hours are on Sundays also so if you want a late night happy hour with a cute little spot I would recommend coming here. Next time I'll try the prime steak and the sliders. Also my wife love how fresh the oysters tasted on the happy menu she would recommend that !!! read more

The second thing that greeted me at Piedra Santa is the fragrant smell of meats smoking, the third were the olive trees adorned with roses, and the fourth the walls covered in deep blue chevroned tiles. The restaurant is stunning to be in. Our party of five ordered the bread roll (with the iconic butter candle wick), steaks (both the Argentinian and aged), and several of their sides (beet salad, mashed potatoes, broccolini, Mac and cheese, mushrooms). While all of the food was incredible, the restaurant fumbled when it came to service as a high end establishment. The butter wick candle failed to burn, so the server torched it until it was mostly melted (talked that way up to my friends beforehand). The meal was rushed as we had barely finished eating our appetizers when the entrees were served, but yet drinks would take twenty minutes to deliver. Our server was obviously ill (masked however) and I noticed the servers touching our glasses with the pitcher of water. While these are minor points and we had a great time, our service was clunky given the price tag. Would I come back in a heart beat though: absolutely. read more

Took a trip to Argentina by way of Piedra Santa in Little Italy, reconnecting with a crazy wonderful old friend and meeting a whole new cast of characters. Showed up at 4pm for happy hour. We were practically the only ones in the restaurant, so many of us took advantage and captured photos of the amazing decor. A lot of wild accent details like the bougainvillea creeping along the ceiling and the murals behind the bar. After taking so many pics, I realized I wasn't alone. A fish was watching closely, and it did not look amused. OYSTER ROCKEFELLER and FRESH OYSTERS came out first. Rockefeller with creamed spinach, herbs, aged parmigiano, bacon, breadcrumbs. Rich and savory without being over the top. Solid execution. Crowd pleaser, so more were ordered. Fresh oysters were solid as well. ARTISAN RUSTIC BREAD was another hit with the candle lit truffle butter. So good it needed a companion. Table-side BEEF CARPACCIO came out with a chimichurri drizzle, even though it's not listed on the menu. That extra touch took it from great to outstanding. BRAISED BEEF CHEEK was another crowd pleaser, savory, flavorful, and tender. PRIME STEAK and KAMPACHI CRUDO Happy Hour items were both very good. TRUFFLE PAPAS FRITAS with summer black truffle and shaved parmesan cheese was crack. Even as it cooled, it maintained its crispiness. Perfect. LAMB LOLLIPOPS were cooked medium rare, but some of the internal fat didn't fully render and was tough to eat, so I didn't. My friend also tasted one and had the same reaction. JAPANESE MIYAZAKI PREFECTURE WAGYU A5 had incredible flavor, served medium rare but in thicker slices than what I'd like, some of the fat stayed heavy and didn't fully melt. CHILEAN SEA BASS was nicely plated and cooked well, but didn't care for the parsnip purée. One too many veggies on the plate for me. As for the service, it was slow moving. The restaurant wasn't crowded yet, but we still had to wait at various times for basic table needs. Without going into detail, attentiveness could have been better. In the end, the waitress made up for some of the earlier lapses. All in all, a solid event and a perfect spot. Ended up meeting some great people along the way... and some new drinking partners. read more

Amazing Happy Hour! Friendly service. Easily located on the corner, though parking can be tricky as there's no valet. We loved the dedicated Happy Hour space with beautiful decor. The tuna tartare and beef cheek are must-tries, and you can't beat a $26 bottle of wine for HH! For our entree, the Parrillada for Two is tasty but comes on a sizzling plate. Our medium-rare order ended up medium-well because it kept cooking at the table. Order accordingly. read more

Our party of 4 went on a Monday night for Restaurant Week so this review is solely on the SDRW menu. I'm glad we made a reservation because the restaurant was pretty busy that night! FOOD: Dinner cost $69 per person and it included an appetizer, main course, and dessert. --Appetizer: Charred Caesar: topped with anchovies. Lettuce was served with whole leaves instead of chopped so while the flavor was great, the dressing wasn't evenly distributed. -Empanada Duo: chicken and beef empanadas served with chimuchurri sauce. These were delicious and I'd order this again! --Main course: Entrana 8oz steak: I enjoyed this better than my husband's New York Center Cut. Served with half a roasted garlic and I loved being able to spread the cloves on the steak. --Extra side add-on: White Cheddar Fontina en Groyere Mac and Cheese ($14): so cheesy and delicious. Surprisingly big enough to share amongst us 4. I'd order this again. --Dessert: I enjoyed the Dulce de Leche Flan more than the Vanilla Panacotta. Both desserts were generous in serving! SERVICE: Wonderful service by our server. Food came out fairly quickly and he checked on us often. ENVIRONMENT: It was a big corner restaurant with 2-4 person tables. As we walked in, I saw that there was a party of maybe around 10-12 sat on a long table. They had a huge wall of wine bottles displayed next to our table and they also had a wall of all the meats served-- both were pretty cool to see.
