Been coming here for the past six months now but haven't posted it's deserving review till now. I've always support small businesses/Veteran owned like Coated Cafe, especially they provide great customer service and delicious desserts. We keep coming back for their empanadas and egg pie. Generously loaded with meat fillings in a thin and crispy crust the way I like it. Best empanadas ever!, even better that my in-laws recipe. They have special menus during the week so I recommend to call the store first and check. Highly recommended if you're looking for some Filipino treats in the National City area.

This is an amazing hole-in-the-wall Cafe. It's run by mom and pop with amazing and tasty pastries. I'm a big fan of their empanadas. They come in beef and chicken. Soooooo yummy and flavorful! The kind lady that runs this Cafe is so so sweet and so welcoming. I've only went twice so far because I was craving empanadas and the place I usually go to ran out, and the kind lady remembered me from just meeting me once. She's so sweet. And everything else is just as amazing. So instead of the other place I usually went to, I'm only going here from now on!!!

The bulalugaw available on Saturdays is soooooo good. This quaint little bakery cafe has really good bread and desserts. Definitely going to be a weekly thing. The staff is super friendly, and the place is kept clean. Not many chairs for dine in but definitely worth coming to bring all the goodies home.

First time here and will definitely be coming back! Workers were very friendly and greeted me right away. I wasn't too sure what I wanted to get when I first walked into the store, but right away they informed me with everything they had and it all looked very tasty! The lady recommended me these Korean cream cheese garlic bread. It was only $3.25 so I went ahead and gave it a try. And omg.. after I tasted it I had to buy more!! it was soo good and I highly recommend it. As for the environment, it was small and cute. Just like a mini cafe. 5 stars overall for the food and service!!

I try to get to this part of town at least twice a month because I'm an East beast, El Cajon way. There's a new bakery in town I stopped in for some pan de sal,To my surprise they were loaded with all kinds of treats empanadas incredibly delicious. Pan De Sal stuffed with mango apple peaches etc. This one's new to me and definitely on my twice a month list. I recommend this place highly. You'll be pleasantly surprised; stay up, everyone!

The owner Grace took over from Erlinda's over the summer. She's very sweet and friendly and her empanadas are so tasty! We also ordered a dozen pandesol and they were really good too! I would definitely come back to try her other treats if I'm in the area.

I was also surprised to see that they expanded their space that offers seating and a coffee shop! They use beans sourced from Philippines for their coffee. Good move on their end if you want to enjoy your filipino pastry with coffee or tea! My go to items rotate between the Spanish bread, pizza pandesal, and regular pandesal fresh from the oven. For my most recent visit, I was surprised to see they had the ilocos empanada available. Like i mentioned, its been a minute since coming here so not sure how long they've been making them. The last time i had an ilocos empanada was when visited Vigan Philippines in 2017! I ordered on in addition to a chicken empanada and pizza pandesal. I decided to check out the coffee shop and what made me backtrack was that they make calamansi tea (with either black or jasmine tea). Decided to order that and eat the ilocos empanada at the cafe while it was still warm. The ilocos empanada: big portion ($6). You can order with or without cheese ($7 with cheese). I opted without cheese because this is how i remember eating it. It also comes with a vinegar sauce. It was delicious. Perfect crunch. Perfect ratios of papaya, mung beans, meat and egg. Calamansi black tea - yummy as well. Not too sweet. Tasted good with the empanada. I will definitely be coming back for the ilocos empanada. They make them daily and often replenished throughout the day (according to the employee). Parking here may be tight if coming durinf busy hours since it shares the spaces with titas kitchenette (also delicious) and island pacific market as well as other small businesses in the strip mall.

Just took my order very professionally and that was basically my whole interaction with her, but everytime I have come before it is always professional! Value: For $12 +tip you get 15 breads which in my opinion is an extremely good value. Their donuts are only $2.50 and for specialty products these prices are unheard of these days. Atmosphere: It is not a sit down location, it is meant for to go orders only, but the atmosphere is always very clean and the display of the beautiful donuts is so cute. Overall experience: I love starbread. Ever since I discovered them two years ago it has become one of my go-to's for get togethers because the quality is always top tier and the original breads are something that everyone likes. The service is quick, the pastries are fresh and they are always so friendly. You know it's great bread when you bring a box to work and everyone runs to you for a piece of a señorita bread. The warm, sweet and yet salty bread tastes like a cloud in every bite. It's soft, buttery and seriously hard to stop at just one. The location is small, but they offer many pastries. My favorite is the señorita bread but every now and then I'll grab the guava pastry when I want something a little different. You really can't go wrong with their pastries.
