Very cute bakery in Chula Vista. We went kind of late, so there wasn't a lot left, but the treats we did get were good! The little baked cheesecake pastry was delicious! The little concha cupcakes were not only cute but also very good! We also got the guava, raspberry and cajeta pastries too.

Best conchas! They are on the smaller side which I like better. They were soft and tasty. New panadería for me but I'll definitely be back.

The service is quick, the pastries are fresh and they are always so friendly. You know it's great bread when you bring a box to work and everyone runs to you for a piece of a señorita bread. The warm, sweet and yet salty bread tastes like a cloud in every bite. It's soft, buttery and seriously hard to stop at just one. The location is small, but they offer many pastries. My favorite is the señorita bread but every now and then I'll grab the guava pastry when I want something a little different. You really can't go wrong with their pastries.

TLDR: Get the Senorita bread!…read more I was so happy when I found out that there was a Starbread here when I was visiting the Gaylord resort nearby. I remember having these when I used to live in Northern California and loved them so much. I had a bout of nostalgia and couldn't wait to share this special treat with my daughter who had never had them before. When we arrived in the strip mall, there was no one at the counter but I guess they have cameras or there is a sensor when someone comes in because eventually someone came out to take our order. There is only one thing to get here (at least that they are famous for) and it is their Senorita bread. I love taking that first bite when given to us because they are warm, sweet and fresh. Maybe not the healthiest thing to eat, but it is quite the treat! My daughter proclaimed it was the "best bread ever"! We loved it so much, we came back the following day when we checked out of our hotel so that we could enjoy it on the way home and share it with friends. Apparently there are quite a few locations in Southern California (typically with a higher population of Filipinos) but I had no idea! Parking is easy and plentiful.

Located in the heart of Chula Vista,…read moreit is a family-owned bakery that specializes in traditional pan dulce (Mexican sweet bread), and custom cakes! Known for their fresh, daily-baked pastries, it features a self-service (tray-and-tongs) experience in a clean, welcoming environment! The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Always making great recommendations for their customers! Parking can be a bit tricky with very few spaces available. Pricing is somewhat higher than it used to be, but then again so is everything else (like gas, lol). They have a great selection of conchas, polvorones, fresh bolillos, empanadas (chicken, beef, jalapeño cream cheese), and custom cakes! Typically, I get the empanadas de piña 10/10! They're so freaking delicious! They feature a golden, buttery, and flaky crust that shatters perfectly when bitten. Inside, they're filled with a rich, jammy pineapple filling that balances bright, tropical sweetness with a sharp, fruity tartness! Highly recommended!

The moment you walk through the door, the smell of fresh baked pan hits you and it is everything. The selection of pan dulce and bolillos had me feeling like I was back in Mexico City. So many options, beautifully displayed. That part alone almost made the trip worth it. But the customer service... yeah, I'm not the only one who noticed. I asked the lady at the register in Spanish if there was any chocolate pan de muerto and she completely ignored me. Like, didn't even look up. Just called someone from the back in Spanish, which, mija, I understood every word. The girl who came to help me was a little better but not much. She told me the chocolate pan de muerto was sold out, which fine, I get it, it was a holiday. But that's literally all you had to say. No smile, no "sorry we're out," nothing. Just took my money and that was that. The panadería itself deserves five stars. The staff needs some work. I'll probably go back for the pan because it really is that good, but I'm keeping my expectations low on the service side.

My sister usually picks up our orders for parties and events. My biggest issue with Hans & Harry's has always been the inconsistency. I'll try something that is absolutely delicious, order it again, and the next time it's just not as good or doesn't taste as fresh. Then I'll move on to something else, love it, and eventually have the same experience. I still keep coming back because they have such a huge selection and, when something is good, it can be really good. Unfortunately, the inconsistency in taste, freshness, and quality can be disappointing. The cherry turnover has been my one reliable favorite that has never disappointed me. Today I ordered a custard pastry shaped like a turnover and a walnut cinnamon braid. Unfortunately, neither tasted particularly fresh, and both were very doughy. The custard filling itself was delicious, but the pastry was much more like a sweet bread than the light, flaky pastry I was expecting. When I asked the employee about it, he didn't really explain that it was more of a sweet bread; he simply agreed that it was fluffy. Had I been craving a sweet bread, I might have enjoyed it more. The walnut cinnamon braid was even more disappointing. One bite was enough for me to decide it wasn't worth the calories! I wanted that first bite to be full of cinnamon, butter, and walnuts--the kind of bite that makes you immediately want another. Instead, it was bland and doughy. Unfortunately, I've experienced the same inconsistency with their cakes and fruit strudel, which I order regularly for parties. Sometimes they are absolutely to die for, and other times they're just not that great. There's obviously a reason I continue coming back: Hans & Harry's has an incredible variety, and I know how good their desserts can be. I just wish the freshness and quality were more consistent from one visit to the next.

I was also surprised to see that they expanded their space that offers seating and a coffee shop! They use beans sourced from Philippines for their coffee. Good move on their end if you want to enjoy your filipino pastry with coffee or tea! My go to items rotate between the Spanish bread, pizza pandesal, and regular pandesal fresh from the oven. For my most recent visit, I was surprised to see they had the ilocos empanada available. Like i mentioned, its been a minute since coming here so not sure how long they've been making them. The last time i had an ilocos empanada was when visited Vigan Philippines in 2017! I ordered on in addition to a chicken empanada and pizza pandesal. I decided to check out the coffee shop and what made me backtrack was that they make calamansi tea (with either black or jasmine tea). Decided to order that and eat the ilocos empanada at the cafe while it was still warm. The ilocos empanada: big portion ($6). You can order with or without cheese ($7 with cheese). I opted without cheese because this is how i remember eating it. It also comes with a vinegar sauce. It was delicious. Perfect crunch. Perfect ratios of papaya, mung beans, meat and egg. Calamansi black tea - yummy as well. Not too sweet. Tasted good with the empanada. I will definitely be coming back for the ilocos empanada. They make them daily and often replenished throughout the day (according to the employee). Parking here may be tight if coming durinf busy hours since it shares the spaces with titas kitchenette (also delicious) and island pacific market as well as other small businesses in the strip mall.
