Both were yummy! Bread was crispy on outside and soft on inside, the pickled veggies were seasoned well and added a nice crunch, and both the pork and tofu were flavorful and made the meal hearty. We also ordered the strawberry matcha with oatmilk. The matcha was good quality, and the ratio of strawberry at the bottom was good when mixed with the rest of the drink. It was quiet enough to have a conversation without feeling like you were talking over everyone else or being overheard. Parking was limited, but that's pretty typical for most cafés in Portland, so it wasn't unexpected. The staff at the counter were incredibly friendly and welcoming, answering all of my questions about their coffee selection and making the experience even better. The coffee was perfect, and the service was excellent from start to finish. The shop was clean, inviting, and had a great overall vibe. Dropped by early in the morning to pick up some banh mis for lunch and coffee before a roadtrip. The ca phe sua was really light in flavor, didn't taste strong at all. We got a banana cream matcha, ca phe sua da, strawberry matcha and lavender earl gray. All on almond milk and on 16oz cup. They're about $6 each. It came out to be close to $30 with tip. We make Vietnamese coffee at home and it's not as good here compared to ours. I tried the banana matcha one for the first time and it's a sweeter drink for sure. Wish the matcha would be stronger. We needed to make a quick coffee stop in the late afternoon. As a Filipino I'm always a sucker for ube. I forgot to specify that I wanted an iced ube latte but didn't mind that they gave me a hot latte. Yet 5 minutes later they also gave me an iced latte on the house! I recently came here and had a very mediocre experience. My friend and I came around noon, to order some food and coffee. I just ordered a banh mi, while my friend ordered a cafe sua and some pastries they had in their glass box. As there wasn't anyone else there except another pair of customers, the employees were chatting the whole time. I typically don't mind--until they forgot my order and I had to check on the banh mi after 20 minutes. My friend also didn't enjoy their coffee very much and didn't eat their pastries after trying one bite of them. While I do believe the coffee is up to personal taste, as Vietnamese coffee can taste a bit different from popular American coffee beans, the pastries weren't warmed up at all and were all a mochi texture. Thus, they were hard and the cream on the top looked very sad. Overall, I wouldn't come here again and would rather go to other small banh mi shops and Vietnamese businesses. read more

The flavor of the coffee gets completely lost behind a sugar bomb that makes you wonder if you're drinking coffee or dessert syrup. My cousin basically threw his in the dumpster after we walked out. The Ube latte? Hands down, the worst one I've had in town. It's essentially just condensed milk with food coloring--no depth, no authentic flavor. Honestly, it feels like they threw something together without any thought to quality. The customer service is average at best. The staff seems disinterested, like they're just going through the motions. I won't be coming back to Portland CAPHE anytime soon--there are far better places in town for coffee that actually take pride in what they serve. Ube doughnut for the win. Wowsa - that doughnut is full of compact flavor. If you like Ube, be sure to get this delightful treat. Luckily, it's not super sweet, like most Portland doughnuts, instead, it's a perfect mix of sweet and moist cake that makes you wish you had more. We really enjoyed the banh mi; they even offered to cut it so we could share. The meat was very flavorful and the veggies were perfect. The bread had a nice crispy crust but a nice fluffy inside. I am never in this area, but happened to be a couple days ago! A friend recommended it, so I had to go give it a shot. Parking was pretty easy, but I can see how it may be a little tricky at busier times during the day because the lot is quite small. The selection of sandwiches was great! It's nice to support local coffee shops, especially a Vietnamese-owned business, but I find their offerrings lackluster. I've visited a handful of times ever since soft opening a couple years back. The ca phe sua da doesn't taste like you'd expect, a little too milky, and more akin to a normal latte at any other American cafe. The ube latte definitely tasted like straight up milk. I stopped by around Christmas time to give it another shot and got a peppermint white mocha which good, but not blown away by. Same goes for the most recent time I visited and tried the ca phe sua da again - and again too milky. The banh mi was okay but overpriced and just doesn't compare to banh mi at other shops, which is exactly how I feel about the banh mi at their sister store House of Banh Mi. Overall, I feel like I've given Portland Ca Phe a fair shot and was disappointed every time. read more

Banh mi - I thought the pork was much more flavorful than the special. Granted I took these to-go for a hike the following day but they held up well and was so happy to have a special treat! Beans - $18 for the coffee beans. I'm not a coffee drinker but always love to get a local roast for my SO. His response to tasting the coffee, "It's a good roast on the bean, no harsh flavor and a smooth aftertaste." He said he liked the coffee! I had read about Portland Ca Phe in local newspapers first, then saw their appearance in outtakes for the local installment of Somebody Feed Phil. I was very glad to have known about it when I found myself in the Holgate neighborhood when I was hungry. The banh mi was excellent - a crisp crust to the fluffy bread, and perfectly balanced fillings. My only regret is that I'm not a coffee fan - their drink options sounded wonderful, based around beans that are grown in Vietnam and roasted locally here in Portland. Service was friendly and efficient. The space is well lit and welcoming. I got my order to go on my first visit, but would happily return here to sit down and enjoy a sandwich at a leisurely pace. read more
