I was randomly driving around the Pearl District and stumbled upon Roste Chocolate House (7/9/26). I managed to find a parking spot around the corner by a couture shop. Limited outdoor sidewalk seating, but inside, there's a lot of seating at a few tables and along a lengthy banquette. Eye catching interior - gawked at the production equipment, the pastry case, the display shelving, and merch galore. Most notable once I entered, I was hit with the intense scent of chocolate. The staff person greeted me warmly and was patient while I perused the menu. I chose to sip onsite a 9oz drinking chocolate which was served with whipped cream and seltzer water on a tray. Definitely not something to guzzle, but to savor slowly and pick up on the complex flavor and luscious texture. A wonderful find! read more

I was going to go to a cafe then I passed by this place. I had to try cause I love chocolate! I got the drinking chocolate and wow, it was rich! So delicious tho. The order also comes with a sparkling water which helps balance it out. It took me a while to finish the drink, but it worked out perfectly for me because I stayed in the cafe to work on a project. Interesting little spot. Reminds me of a place on the coast down at Cannon Beach. We opted for a Mexican Mocha and a Mocha Freeze (I think it was called). Service was welcoming. We waited a few minutes for our drinks. This is a "fancy" chocolate spot, so prices are moderate. They do have pastries, an assortment of chocolate beverages as well as full espresso bar, and of course chocolate! The ambiance was really chill with music in the background. Simple but somewhat elegant decor. Very quiet. We did enjoy our drinks--although I definitely should have gotten a small instead of a large as the Mexican Mocha was very rich. read more

Life-changing flavor. Okay. I was looking for the first place I ever tried sipping chocolate, which I found a few shops later. This was not that shop, but this might be my new favorite shop. I ordered the Marzipan sipping chocolate latte from the Summer Special menu. It was one of the top three lattes I've ever had in my life. The way the sipping chocolate, espresso, and Marzipan complemented each other was so dreamy. I could have drank like 30 ounces. Too bad I only ordered 12. It was on the pricier side compared to the other sipping chocolate shop I visited. The sipping chocolate in particular was substantially more expensive. But this is one of those cases where you get what you pay for. It was so amazing. As to actual chocolate bars, there wasn't a great selection-- the other place had them beat. But the latte was so incredibly delicious, I would for sure come back for that alone. read more

There were two chocolate varieties when I went, India and Indonesia with different tasting notes but both 70% cacao. The cashier asked if I wanted to sample which was super helpful! I ended up going with India which was a little fruity and a little caramelly - so delicious. You get a 4oz cup of the chocolate and a little shot of seltzer. I'm not the biggest fan of things like sweet chocolate candies, but they offer desserts and drinks here that are more rich and bittersweet, which I appreciate! Sipping chocolate is great. Walked in here on a rainy Sunday afternoon. It was pretty busy but staff was friendly and helpful. We found a seat easily and our drinks came out relatively quick. We ordered the sipping chocolate. Was not a fan, unfortunately. The chocolate flavor profile skews towards light roast and sour, fruity notes. I know that some folk love this, just as some folk enjoy light roasted coffee, but I do not. I tried a drink that combined espresso with chocolate and cream as well as a thick, melted chocolate beverage that came with a side of whipped cream and a glass of soda water. They were ok, but not suited to my palate. The place smells of delicious chocolate when you walk in and is cozy, if a bit simple in decor/ambience. I also tried a house made chocolate baklava, a slice of their new fudge offering and gianduja (hazelnut chocolate paste) log. The baklava was just ok but the fudge was refreshingly dark and bitter rather than cloyingly sweet like most American fudge. The gianduja logs were also made with really smooth, tasty dark chocolate rather than the traditional milk chocolate Italian style and I very much liked it. All in all, I appreciate places like this and feel there's much potential here even if their chocolate recipe isnt quite there yet for me. read more

Update: after saving some brownie and finishing it at home, wow, it was really good. It was way too much to have it with hot chocolate because it is so intense with real deal chocolate. 4.5 stars for the brownie. I would say it is more of a chocolate torte texture than chewy brownie but it was delicious with roasted marshmallow on top. Underwhelming. We were very excited to try the hot chocolate. It had good rich chocolate flavor but not delicious, not sweet enough, too rich. Strange also that we got two drinks, one was earl grey hot chocolate, too subtle, but the amount of chocolate was very different between them, not enough and the other was too much. The older guy at register was great, very friendly. A younger girl didn't even look at me when I asked looking for napkins, not friendly. Came here as part of a chocolate tasting experience with my team. Note that I didn't try any of their other offerings (pastries, coffees, etc) as the tasting involved several rounds of chocolate! A decently sized space with ample seating, this is a great spot for a team event and can accommodate 1-2 larger groups. I forget his name, but i think it was the owner, conducted our chocolate tasting. He was so passionate and knowledgeable about the history of cacao and chocolate in the US. I didnt expect an entire history lesson but i thought it really enriched the tasting experience. It was fun to learn about the origins of the chocolate we were tasting - and we were so fortunate to try one of the rarest chocolates in the world; he mentioned he had been trying to get his hands on some for 2 years or something like that. Please note that this isn't a place that just dumps sugar and milk into the chocolate - it really is about the tasting notes (like wine!) and variance of the cacao. Wish I came here sooner! What a unique spot with some of the best chocolate I've ever had. I got the Hot Chocolate which was thick and luscious but not at all sweet. This with their butter crossiant would have been amazing. However, their Chocolate Orange scone was also to die for. Warm, buttery, and flakey with bits of chocolate and orangy galze. Perfect combination. The Bicerin was super unique as well, being a layered chocolate and coffee drink. Their space is big and open with many seatings. Staffs were very experienced and knowledgeable. It did take quite a while to get our food and drinks. However, they do have table service and the presentation is awesome. We had plenty of time and it was well worth the wait. Here are my ratings: Drinking chocolate: 7/10. It was pretty good. I wish it came with some other small bites of sweets like other chocolate places. It gives you a chance to really enjoy the flavors. Bicerin: 9/10. Never had one before and it was awesome. Definitely recommend. Chocolate cinnamon bun: 8/10. Soft, flavorful, roll with delicious chocolate/cinnamon filling.
