I had the Smoked Pork Ribs, and when I say covered I mean it was covered in the sauce, like there was more sauce then rib and the sauce was like super sour and nearly acidic and it was thick as well. This is part of the Marriott hotel. I had the $24 Marriott Burger and wife had the $18 quesadilla. Service was very slow as apparently they sent out the orders in batch once enough orders have accumulated to the main kitchen in the Marriott hotel. The burger came with a Angus beef, bacon, Swiss cheese, shredded lettuce pickles, on a brioche bun. The french fries which were actually quite good nice and thin the way I like them. Can't comment on the $18 quesadilla that my wife ordered, but she did eat all of it We came here before a show at San Jose center for performing arts but do not make reservations and could not find any openings at any of the nearby restaurants. We arrived at nearly 10pm - the place was essentially empty since it was an hour until they closed. The workers greeted us warmly and told us to sit wherever. The menu was fairly simple and straightforward, so it didn't take long to choose the following: - Liquid Luck - La Comadre Quesadilla - Flautas de Pollo - 3 Street Tacos (Carnitas) They were all solid choices and I'd definitely order the same again. I will say though - the street tacos has to be the same, it can't be a mix, according to the server who asked in the back. The overall price came out to be $97.34 without tip. This is a nice little bar located in the corner of the San Jose Marriott. The drink menu focused on tequila featured cocktails or spicy cocktails, neither of which I am a fan. Stopped in here before a concert at the civic center. They were out of the Chardonnay and the bourbon we intended to order. Luckily we chose back up options. The space is quite small, no music, and the basketball game on tv. The bartender was Oscar who was very attentive and friendly. I always feel bad for servers working in a what seems to be an unprepared bar for them to work in. His service was great and he was doing the best with the environment created for him. We ended up ordering the red blend wine and an old fashioned. My husband said the drink wasn't too strong. No complaints about the wine. I probably wouldn't return as a San Jose local, but could see it being a good place before a concert at the civic center. My first time eating here since it became Cobre & Clay. I came right when they opened. I ordered the Birria Tacos! So tasty! It came with 3 tortillas and the birria meat in a bowl and it was a good amount! Good service! I asked the bartender (Oscar) his opinion of the birria tacos and he recommend to try it. Glad I did! I'll try the costillas next time lol... I liked the open area of the cantina. There's lots of light coming in from all the windows and doors and they have good music playing. I ordered 2 different dishes during Saturday happy hour, very reasonable for what I got. I ordered a Mexican style Caesar Salad ( Very crisp and delicious with the variety of veggies added.). I usually go out whenever I'm in San Jose but this time I didn't feel like leaving my hotel. The guacamole was good and the chicken quesadilla was a really great size. I went when it wasn't busy but after about an hour or so people are starting flooding in. There were only about 2 servers inside: one at the bar and the other floating around and delivering food so service was a little slow but understandable with so many people inside. It's sort of felt like a sports bar, very casual and can get pretty loud. Menu was minimal but the food isn't disappointing. Ie. I'm picky when it comes to my chilaquiles. The salsa needs to be super flavorful, the tortilla chips have to stay crisp, cheesy. It's the perfect combo to the rich flavor of an over easy egg. Working to get up on its feet, this place replaces Tanq in the same venue tucked under the Marriott on Market street. Great spot to drink and look at the downtown foot traffic in San Jose, and being just around the corner from the convention centre it can be quite entertaining. The mood is Mexico, with interesting decor and menus but the food execution lacks confidence and polish to match the look. The chips and salsa needed oomph (or maybe just a little salt) and every third chip was stale, despite being 'house made' per the menu. The street tacos were likewise a little lacking, with chewy, tasteless tortillas contrasting with the delicious carne asada and fresh accompaniments. The staff were attentive to a fault though and did their best to keep me entertained, fed and watered. I feel that with a bit more work this place can come up good and prove to be a worthwhile diversion for hotel guests and convention passers-by. read more

My friends were exploring the downtown area before we went to a nearby event and ran into Cobre & Clay, we wanted a small bite to eat before a long day so we decided to stop by and check what they had. I ended up ordering the chips and guac and they were delicious, well worth the price and the service was excellent and prompt. We came into Cobre and clay while in the downtown area for Sunday brunch. The Benedict was delicious very filling, the mango added a lovely freshness, we also had the chips guacamole and salsa. My daughter thought the guacamole was amazing she ate the whole bowl! Service was top notch they checked on us made sure food was to our liking and that we had all we needed. Stayed in San Jose Marriott overnight at the weekend. The restaurant is conveniently located inside the hotel. Ordered fish taco and street corn salad for my teenage son and he liked both.
