    Drinks at the bar.
    Vanessa G.

This is a nice little bar located in the corner of the San Jose Marriott. The drink menu focused on tequila featured cocktails or spicy cocktails, neither of which I am a fan. I opted for just a solid cruzan rum with soda water and a lime. My husband had a jack and coke. Service was good. We didn't eat but the menu looked nice.

    Birria, guac, corn/mushroom quesadila

Pros: Good guacamole, fat salty chips. Salsa is watery but good for heat. Atypical spot with glass walls for people watching. Not overly bright. Spacious. Good location, if you like downtown. Huge selection of dad beers (domestics). What could be improved: dim the overhead lighting, add some mood music, add more menu items, and deactivate the Yelp check in offer if you're not going to honor it.

    Birria Tacos! Yum!

My first time eating here since it became Cobre & Clay. I came right when they opened. I ordered the Birria Tacos! So tasty! It came with 3 tortillas and the birria meat in a bowl and it was a good amount! Good service! I asked the bartender (Oscar) his opinion of the birria tacos and he recommend to try it. Glad I did! I'll try the costillas next time lol... I liked the open area of the cantina. There's lots of light coming in from all the windows and doors and they have good music playing. It's at the corner of the street, connected to the Marriott hotel, and you can see Cesar Chavez Park. Overall yummy!!

    Chilaquiles with over easy eggs...
    mari s.

I'm picky when it comes to my chilaquiles. The salsa needs to be super flavorful, the tortilla chips have to stay crisp, cheesy. It's the perfect combo to the rich flavor of an over easy egg. Cobre and Clay's chilaquiles just hit the spot! Serving it on a skillet is genius! I could have this every day! Definitely coming back just for this perfection!

    Carne asada street tacos

Working to get up on its feet, this place replaces Tanq in the same venue tucked under the Marriott on Market street. Great spot to drink and look at the downtown foot traffic in San Jose, and being just around the corner from the convention centre it can be quite entertaining. The mood is Mexico, with interesting decor and menus but the food execution lacks confidence and polish to match the look. The chips and salsa needed oomph (or maybe just a little salt) and every third chip was stale, despite being 'house made' per the menu. The street tacos were likewise a little lacking, with chewy, tasteless tortillas contrasting with the delicious carne asada and fresh accompaniments. The staff were attentive to a fault though and did their best to keep me entertained, fed and watered. I feel that with a bit more work this place can come up good and prove to be a worthwhile diversion for hotel guests and convention passers-by.

My friends were exploring the downtown area before we went to a nearby event and ran into Cobre & Clay, we wanted a small bite to eat before a long day so we decided to stop by and check what they had. I ended up ordering the chips and guac and they were delicious, well worth the price and the service was excellent and prompt. The cocktail menu looked good as well and we will probably be back to check out other things on their menu :)

    Benedict, Sunday brunch

We came into Cobre and clay while in the downtown area for Sunday brunch. The Benedict was delicious very filling, the mango added a lovely freshness, we also had the chips guacamole and salsa. My daughter thought the guacamole was amazing she ate the whole bowl! Service was top notch they checked on us made sure food was to our liking and that we had all we needed. Oscar and Angelo did a good job serving us. The restaurant has fun music and nice big windows for people watching.

    Street corn salad

Stayed in San Jose Marriott overnight at the weekend. The restaurant is conveniently located inside the hotel. Ordered fish taco and street corn salad for my teenage son and he liked both. The service for order to-go is very fast as well. Would recommend for anyone in the area or stay in the hotel.

At Cobre & Clay, I ordered this quesadillia, it's so good! I'll definitely order this again. They mix good drinks too.Good restaurant choice!

Alter Ego is a proper intimate lounge with their full bar, and it feels like a world away from the street outside. The transition between the two spaces is surprisingly seamless and genuinely fun to experience. And they're open late, which puts them in a rare category of places actually worth staying out for. Can still remember the gourmet dogs and duck fat fries back in the days... Awesome what they did to the place. The new set up with the dim lights and neon menu is noice. Ended up chilling at the front bar. Definitely will return to explore the back at a later time. Food: A We got to sample a variety of goodies and drinks from the menu, which definitely hit the spot. The skewers were cooked just right with a kiss of smoke from the grill. The takoyaki were good as expected--yum. We ended the excursion with the milk bread; it was surely a crowd-pleaser. It was fluffy goodness, topped with furikake, and served with a side of decadent house butter. Drinks were perfectly crafted and refreshing. Service: A We were chilling at the bar and got to hang with staff. Cool folks, will be back. - John

My husband and I decided we were going to split our entree and sides. We wanted to try a number of slides and new we could not let our eye be bigger than our appetites. So we went with the rib-eye, glad we did. That thing was cooked to perfect and melted in your mouth. The waitress even split it onto two plates. 4. Our sides were: mac n cheese which was ooey and gooey. The creamed corn very delicious. The brussell sprouts which is always my pick and I'm glad I did. It's got a cream sauce and topped with pistachios. Fries, which were cooked crisp and were not oily. Service: Quick and gracious. She made sure that our water glasses were always full and we were never in need of anything but wasn't overbearing. Although we were seated over by the bar it didn't feel like it. The booths by the bar are still pretty intimate. The lighting in the place is comfortable. The air about the place is elegant. I enjoyed the place and don't know what took me so long. I still think about that rib eye and will be back!
