Liquid Luck
Nina M.

We arrived at nearly 10pm - the place was essentially empty since it was an hour until they closed. The workers greeted us warmly and told us to sit wherever. The menu was fairly simple and straightforward, so it didn't take long to choose the following: - Liquid Luck - La Comadre Quesadilla - Flautas de Pollo - 3 Street Tacos (Carnitas) They were all solid choices and I'd definitely order the same again. I will say though - the street tacos has to be the same, it can't be a mix, according to the server who asked in the back. The overall price came out to be $97.34 without tip. Liquid Luck was the prices item from the list. It was good but I don't think I'd order it again type of good.

Drinks at the bar.

This is a nice little bar located in the corner of the San Jose Marriott. The drink menu focused on tequila featured cocktails or spicy cocktails, neither of which I am a fan. I opted for just a solid cruzan rum with soda water and a lime. My husband had a jack and coke. Service was good. We didn't eat but the menu looked nice.

Birria, guac, corn/mushroom quesadila
Glen N.

Pros: Good guacamole, fat salty chips. Salsa is watery but good for heat. Atypical spot with glass walls for people watching. Not overly bright. Spacious. Good location, if you like downtown. Huge selection of dad beers (domestics). What could be improved: dim the overhead lighting, add some mood music, add more menu items, and deactivate the Yelp check in offer if you're not going to honor it.

Birria Tacos! Yum!

My first time eating here since it became Cobre & Clay. I came right when they opened. I ordered the Birria Tacos! So tasty! It came with 3 tortillas and the birria meat in a bowl and it was a good amount! Good service! I asked the bartender (Oscar) his opinion of the birria tacos and he recommend to try it. Glad I did! I'll try the costillas next time lol... I liked the open area of the cantina. There's lots of light coming in from all the windows and doors and they have good music playing. It's at the corner of the street, connected to the Marriott hotel, and you can see Cesar Chavez Park. Overall yummy!!

Chilaquiles with over easy eggs...
mari s.

I'm picky when it comes to my chilaquiles. The salsa needs to be super flavorful, the tortilla chips have to stay crisp, cheesy. It's the perfect combo to the rich flavor of an over easy egg. Cobre and Clay's chilaquiles just hit the spot! Serving it on a skillet is genius! I could have this every day! Definitely coming back just for this perfection!

Carne asada street tacos

Working to get up on its feet, this place replaces Tanq in the same venue tucked under the Marriott on Market street. Great spot to drink and look at the downtown foot traffic in San Jose, and being just around the corner from the convention centre it can be quite entertaining. The mood is Mexico, with interesting decor and menus but the food execution lacks confidence and polish to match the look. The chips and salsa needed oomph (or maybe just a little salt) and every third chip was stale, despite being 'house made' per the menu. The street tacos were likewise a little lacking, with chewy, tasteless tortillas contrasting with the delicious carne asada and fresh accompaniments. The staff were attentive to a fault though and did their best to keep me entertained, fed and watered. I feel that with a bit more work this place can come up good and prove to be a worthwhile diversion for hotel guests and convention passers-by.

Chips & Guac
Daniel L.

My friends were exploring the downtown area before we went to a nearby event and ran into Cobre & Clay, we wanted a small bite to eat before a long day so we decided to stop by and check what they had. I ended up ordering the chips and guac and they were delicious, well worth the price and the service was excellent and prompt. The cocktail menu looked good as well and we will probably be back to check out other things on their menu :)

Benedict, Sunday brunch

We came into Cobre and clay while in the downtown area for Sunday brunch. The Benedict was delicious very filling, the mango added a lovely freshness, we also had the chips guacamole and salsa. My daughter thought the guacamole was amazing she ate the whole bowl! Service was top notch they checked on us made sure food was to our liking and that we had all we needed. Oscar and Angelo did a good job serving us. The restaurant has fun music and nice big windows for people watching.

The music was really loud and I couldn't hear the conversation of the person with me so the Asian bartender helped us turn down the music a little. It wasn't until mid evening that I realized there was another bar in the back. The bartender told us the cocktails at Alter Ego were more fancy. Definitely instagramworthy! Tried two of the cocktails at Alter Ego. Overall, both have different vibes. Alter Ego is good for a more intimate dark setting date vibe. Service was pretty good at Still OG! The Asian bartender checked in several times and was really nice as well as provided some recommendations on which happy hour specials were most popular which helps since I'm indecisive. The back does seem like a more classy environment and I'd choose this setting over a dive bar any day. The music at still OG that they were playing at the time wasn't my cup of tea, but I'm sure they mix it up from time to time. I would love to hear some oldies!

The front was pretty full so we checked out Alter Ego first, but they were also full with nothing available until 11pm, so Still OG it was. You grab a spot yourself and then order at the bar. All cocktails are on tap, which actually ended up being great because I was between a few of them and the bartender was able to give me samples of them. We also ended up getting an order of the Chicken skewers, which were super tender and juicy. We were too late on our visit, but they do have a daily happy hour that includes some of the skewers and fries, as well as some drinks and shots. Service was super friendly and vibes and music were great! Cocktails, weren't the best since they were on tap, but still good enough! I would absolutely come back here for a drink and snack though!

My husband and I had a baby free night out to celebrate my birthday and haberdasher did not disappoint. We went soon after opening so there was no line but I know they tend to have one later in the evening. We were greeted warmly at the door by the attendant who checked our ids. I was even wished a happy early birthday. When going into the bar, you walk down a staircase into a space that makes you forget you're in downtown San Jose with beautiful reds and burgundy decor. The staff is all smartly dressed; the bartender and bar back were both sweet and funny. I ordered a jack rose (my all time favorite), their seasonal watermelon waltz (this may be a new favorite for me, nice and refreshing) and one of their zero proof cocktails called a Mariposa which was soooo good as well. My husband ordered a couple old fashioned and a watermelon waltz for himself. We had an amazing time and look forward to coming back in the future.

And they don't allow outside food in even if the food was leftover in Togo bags from dinner. The place was busy when we finally went inside. But the bartenders were fast and we got two rounds of drinks as far as we could order. The dim lighting did look reddish. The large tables were reserved but there plenty of smaller high tops around. Memorable drinks were the perfect pear and the Andean Ascent. Perfect pear was not fruity at all and had a nice aroma and spice to it. The Andean ascent was a nice drink to start with, refreshing with a bit of fizz.

The diavola pasta had a great texture and a flavorful sauce, although it felt a little simple since there weren't many other ingredients mixed in. The service was great though and the lighting inside nice! Overall, the meal was a bit hit-or-miss, but I'd come back to try more of the pizzas since those were definitely the highlight

We had a group of around 8 I think and did a family style type of dinner. We ordered the milk bread, mussels and prawns, poke nachos, caviar potato pave, and prime ny steak frites. The bread that came with mussels and prawns were really good too, it was toasted with some seasonings and it paired really well with the leftover seafood sauce. The caviar was alright but the potato in the dish was great.
