I ordered their egg scramble with chorizo. 5/5 The rice & beans were seasoned so good. Even as sides, as individual items they were DELICIOUS. The chorizo & eggs weren't overly greasy & the tortillas were good. My partner ordered the steak sandwich. 4.5/5 Flavor was amazing. The steak was a little chewy. Went here on a Tuesday night around 7pm for context. Buddy and I walked in and then were told that we could sit anywhere so we told the lady we'd sit outside and she said she'd be right there. She came out a few min later and we order some chips and salsa for an app and both got drinks. The drinks took a while to come out and the chips took even longer which was weird. The Fab has a really great ambiance and a wonderful overall environment. The outdoor seating is a huge plus, especially being located on such a nice strip in downtown San Jose. Our waitress was amazing -- very sweet, attentive, and professional. She made sure we were taken care of and really added to the experience. Unfortunately, the food itself wasn't the best. I ordered waffles with a side of bacon and berries. The berries were fresh and the bacon was cooked perfectly, but the waffle came out extremely hard -- almost like a plate. My spouse ordered eggs, potatoes, and a side of bacon. He clearly explained how he wanted his order, but it came out with hash browns and bacon instead. Again, the bacon was actually very good, but the rest of the dish missed the mark. One thing I did appreciate is that they are very welcoming to furbabies and even offer a special menu for them, which is a nice touch for pet owners. The FAB is near San Jose State, and it has a little bit of a funky student vibe. The ambience is casual/fun. It's also a bit of a sports bar... several big TVs showing games. Our waitress was really friendly and helpful. We took a little while to decide on our order, because the menu is BIG and eclectic. A lot of Mexican food, but also pizza, pasta, burgers, sandwiches... even mac & cheese. We started with chips, salsa, and guacamole. Really good! The chips were fresh and flavorful. I ordered enchllada. They don't have a bunch of different "type" on the menu. You just tell them what you want in it, and what kind of sauce you want, and they make it. I was surprised at how nice the presentation was. It felt like something you'd get in a very upscale restaurant. And they were delicious. Our waitress laughed about how quickly I cleaned my plate. My fiend order fajitas. The came with a lot of "fixings" - guacamole, crema, cheese, etc. He said they were really good. While we were there, a guy came in with a little dog and sat at the bar. A lot of people seemed to know the dog and came over to pet him. It's that kind of place. I skipped dessert because I was full. With cocktails, starter, entrees and tip our total came to just under $100. A little steep for a student place, but very reasonable for a surprisingly good (and filling) meal. Fab deserves WAY more than a 4.0 rating! I came here with my best friend and we had such an amazing experience. From the moment we arrived, everything was great. The food was absolutely delicious fresh, flavorful, and honestly way better than we expected. Our server, Carmen, was truly outstanding. She was kind, attentive, and went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. She even tried her best to make a piña colada for us, and that effort really meant a lot. Nice vibe inside with multiple large TV screens showing sports including a spacious bar counter. Our server recommended Carnitas for the Sopes and it was indeed a great choice. Also, I loved Birria Grilled Cheese sandwich served with delicious Consommé to dip in. The portion size of Birria Ramen was on the higher side. Stopped by for some happy hour tacos and I was not disappointed! It was $2 per taco and SJSU students get 10% off after showing their ID. Seated myself and was given water + cutlery shortly afterwards. It's a nice place to have brunch/lunch and drinks with friends given the friendly staff and constant music playing. Their drink menu is pretty extensive too. FOOD: *Tacos (al pastor) -- By far some of the best soft tacos I have had in a while! The corn tortillas were thick and pillowy without having a grainy texture. They didn't get soggy despite the generous load of pico de gallo, yay! The flavorful meat would fall out while folding the taco, but I'm glad because it was so delicious and I wanted more. Loved that the al pastor wasn't dripping with oil. The sauce paired with these tacos was SO addicting and would be perfect for a burrito. Guess I'll just have to try that next time haha. Appreciated the juicy lime slices they provided too. It turned out to be quite filling as the bread is thick and not like the usual pizza bread, but more of a foccacia bread. Besides the pork, the toppings included beans and onions. I had the veggie super quesadilla, and it was quite good, though a little light on the cheese for my liking. We also got a Caesar salad to share, and it was a little heavily dressed, but pretty good. When water finally came, they didn't bring enough cups because they said they hadn't cleaned enough for our group, which we found odd considering the restaurant wasn't busy at the time. We also ordered three orders of the chips & trio dips, which the waitress recommended, but they never came out. When I asked about it, she admitted she didn't know why it was taking so long but assured us they would be removed from the bill. There was also a mix-up when one of our guests ordered a chicken quesadilla. The waitress misheard and brought out chicken tortilla soup instead. Once the mistake was realized, she asked if we still wanted it, and our group agreed to take it under the impression it wouldn't be charged in addition to the quesadilla. That turned out not to be the case. When I called the next day to clarify, management told me they couldn't refund the $16 item on our $500+ bill since we had eaten it. The food quality was also disappointing. The refried beans and some of the meat in the enchiladas had an off taste. The meat was also extremely chewy and dry. While the manager did try to make amends by offering drinks on a future visit, the number of small but persistent issues: delayed water, missing appetizers, misheard orders, and the final billing problem, left us pretty disappointed overall. read more

When walked in you can choose your seating. Luckily came here around 3 o'clock so there was plenty of places where to sear including the outside. Whoah, they were completely packed inside and outside for Sunday lunch, we were lucky to snag an outdoor picnic table as someone was leaving. The inside is louder, sports bar vibes, so I'm glad we got a table outside which was more relaxed. Came here to celebrate Valentines the day after Valentine's Day since my partner and I were both on campus. This Mexican restaurant is convenient for SJSU students as it's right across from campus. Birria Ramen (5/5): I saw someone eat this on TikTok and made me interested to try this place. This was actually better than I thought and great to share with. The meat was plentiful and very fatty. Which is great for a variety of dietary needs and cravings. We got the trio dip and taquitos to share. It was pretty decent! My only meh was how the cheese for the trio dips tasted like stadium cheese. Which isn't a bad thing if you're into that! Other than that, chicken taquitos were crunchy and flavorful! The food is 5-star The menu has a lot of good options. Their happy hour is 5-star The vibe and the music is 5-star. It's a very Lowkey spot near Philz coffee but the atmosphere will have you ready to party. I've never seen it super busy but there are always people having fun and drinking their mimosa flights or sharing a giant one. The service can be a little slow but their food is pretty bomb. Probably some of the best sopes I've ever had and I love that you have a few protein/meat options to choose from. I also love how they have vegetarian options as well and they have shrimp too. So, plenty of options here. My only complaint is that it's pretty smokey inside and kind of stuffy- perhaps new ventilation is needed?. I don't know if they have a grill in the back or no windows or no back door because it just smells like the kitchen stove or grill is near, but they keep the front doors open and fans going to keep it cool. All the staff is pretty nice too despite them taking long to return to your table sometimes. They have tvs and some of the best music I've heard played a food establishment. They also have a great beer selection. I love little hole in the spots that make sj/dtsj special. This is def a fav of mine. I would rate my experience at The FAB 3.5 stars if I could, but rounding up because I do think it has potential and I'm open to coming back. I came here with two other friends on a Sunday for brunch around 11:30am and there was ample seating both inside and outside. The weather was pretty nice so we opted to sit outside. My friend and I started off with a margarita flight to share and got the original, mango, watermelon, and strawberry. These were a bit on the sweeter/syrupy side for our liking so it wasn't our fave. However, we got micheladas afterwards which definitely hit the spot. Between three of us, we got 3 quesabirria tacos, nacho fries with steak, and The FAB salad with shrimp. Quesabirria tacos - I thought these were good. There wasn't anything that stood out to me but I thought it was a solid option to satisfy my hunger and it was tasty. Nacho Fries - this was probably my favorite out of the items we got. The toppings complimented the fries well and I liked that the fries were still crispy despite having stuff piled on top. I felt like the ratio between fries and toppings were even as well. My only wish was maybe a slightly bigger portion for the price, but regardless, it was still very filling. The FAB Salad - we were so excited for this, but it fell short of our expectations. The salad itself was delicious and this really complemented the rest of our meal by giving us something healthier to eat since we had tacos and fries. It included lettuce, rice, beans, guac, pico, crema, and our choice of protein was shrimp. I liked that there was a good serving of shrimp and that the shrimp itself wasn't small. However, we were so excited about eating the taco shell bowl but were disappointed because it tasted almost like dish cleaner. My guess is maybe the bowl they used to shape it had residue on it. So after each of us trying to make sure it wasn't just a one-off with one of us, we stopped eating the actual shell which was a bummer because it was what we were looking forward to the most. In terms of service, the waitress was very attentive and patient as originally it was just two of us waiting for our third friend. The drinks and food came out in a pretty timely manner. Overall, I think I'd give this place another try. The ambiance is casual yet fun given the signs and aesthetic of the place. I heard Motown (Smokie, and more), Elvis, The Beatles. The food was excellent. I got the 3 tacos and got beef, shredded chicken, Al pastor. All 3 were delicious. That was some of the best Al pastor I've had...and I later realized that it wasn't an option on the menu. They seem to also specialize in their drinks. Persuaded by the great photos and videos I had seen I was excited to try the Fab. Located across the street from SJU it's walkable distance from most of downtown. Parking is rough downtown but there are meters and lots available. The decor inside the Fab looks like they are amping it up to be ig worthy but it still needs more work. They're still got a few signs up that belonged to the previous owners (Pete's Coffee). My friends and I went during lunch time on a weekend and it wasn't busy at all, we got seated immediately and provided water while we figured out our order. The menu is pretty standard of Mexican-American food. They have Michaela flights and mimosa flights which is a plus and why we came to try them out. The Miche flight was good- but our server didn't tell us the flavors nor seemed interested enough to do so if we asked so we just played a 'guess what' game instead. The food wasn't that great, it wasn't bad but it wasn't flavorful either. Between all of us we got 2 taco salads (one steak, one shrimp) and the jicama tacos. Every dish had the same reaction -eh. Total cost was broken down to have added a "Covid wellness recovery fee" which was about $6, Santa Clara Count fee which was about $3 and our meals.
