Appetizer - 5 stars Milk bread was served warm, fresh and melt in your mouth. Drinks - house wine was very good Dinner - Better Some things make you wonder how the flavors of the dish co.e together. The octopus was exactly that. It had nuts and watermelon which I didn't think added anything significant to the dish. It was spicy, almost overly spicy. It made it less enjoyable when you have to gulp down glasses of water to come the heat down. The burger on the other hand was a huge hit. It was a stacked high with layers of very good quality beef cooked to order, crisp lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles. The bite was almost so big you couldn't fit all the layers. Loved the burger sauce that came on the bun. Service was excellent. Ambiance was nice, not too crazy sitting closer to the door. The bar crowd seemed to be getting loud but we left right after our food was done. The manager kept the doors locked as they were about to close up. All friendly staff.
The menu was really fun, and everything we ordered was delicious. I especially enjoyed my steak. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked, tender with just the right amount of fat, and honestly the perfect portion size. The eggs were cooked nicely, and I liked the bit of acidity from the arugula salad on top of the house potatoes, which helped balance the dish. The beignets were amazing. It was my first time trying them, and they were super light and airy on the inside with a perfectly crisp exterior coated in powdered sugar. The three dipping sauces were all excellent and each paired really well with the beignets in its own way.
The pressroom is an upscale spot in the heart of downtown San Jose. Catering to a business dinner crowd and special occasion/date night clientele, the menu is quite varied and has offerings from Indian butter chicken, to short ribs, homemade pasta and even your classic burger. The waitress knew the menu and drinks very well and was able to provide detailed information on the ingredients in each, as well as recommendations on what pairs well with each dish. I ordered the boneless short ribs with potatoes and asparagus and rainbow carrots. The presentation, from the plate to the assembly and composition was absolutely beautiful and immediately gave the high-end, upscale vibe. The meat was super tender and seasoned well. The potatoes were almost like thinly sliced scalloped potatoes with a crunchy top, yet smooth and creamy in the inside. The vegetables were perfectly cooked and paired well with the short ribs. Truffle oil was used delicately to season the potatoes but was unnecessary if you ask me. The mustard Demi-glacé accompanying the short ribs was the best complement tying the whole dish together. I also got to try the hand made agnolotti with garlic, wild mushrooms and lemon ricotta. The pasta was delicate and generously stuffed with lemon ricotta. The garlic sauce was buttery yet a bit heavy handed with truffle oil. It did complement the wild mushrooms though, so I understand why the chef prepared it that way and it made the dish feel more elevated. For dessert I had the vanilla crème brulee which was rich and creamy. The sugar was perfectly caramelized, providing a much needed bitterness to the sweet custard. I could have used a bit less sweetness and a bit more citrus or acid with more fruit perhaps. My coworker had the bread pudding which was well balanced and had a sprinkle of salt to make up for the sweetness in the bread and ice cream. Overall it was a great meal. I'll definitely be back however, the prices are on the high end, making this more of a special occasion restaurant, more so than your every day eating out dining spot.
Decided to try a new brunch spot and I have to say the interior here is so beautiful. I love all the natural lighting and how big the space is. The menu has some very unique names, but I like how they tried to preserve the history of the building which used to be the Mercury News. They also use newspaper print for their to-go bags which I thought was very cute. For food, we ordered their version of avocado toast with hashbrowns, bibimbap, and beignets. The beignets were a bit too doughy for me but I enjoyed the other two dishes. Service was great, our server kept checking in on us to make sure we were doing good and to refill our water. Would definitely come back because I wanna try their drinks and dinner menu.
My friend described this places as "good, but best gone with a corporate card". And I think that's apt. Everything is just so disproportionately expensive for the quality you get. Gorgeous interior design though as always, paying homage to the original newspaper headquarters I ordered - The blackberry mocktail: first of all this was $14. For JUICE. One of the ingredients in here was the bad kind of bitter that tastes like dirty soapy dishwasher, so this was a huge miss - The fried paneer sandwich: good, but it was really the quality and flavor of the manresa bread bun that was really carrying this dish - The beignets (3 pieces): this was the best item. It comes with 3 large but very airy beignets with 3 thick sauces: dulce de leche, chocolate, and raspberry. The beignets texture was uniquely spongy and airy delicious! Their brunch and cocktail menu does look interesting enough so I will have to come back a second time to see if the quality of the other offerings can raise this rating Logistics: - Indoor seating and outdoor seating though outdoor is unheated and a bit just on the sidewalk - Limited street parking nearby but close to several paid public garages and bus routes. - Vegetarian and vegan and gluten free options
I came to this place place for brunch, and it was a wonderful experience! I ordered the Avocado Toast with an Egg and House Potatoes and it was the most delicious and filling avocado toast I can remember. I was completely satisfied. I would definitely recommend. They have other cool items I would like to try, and I like their themed names. The service was great, and I would love to come back for dinner or even just a drink. The vibe is so chic. I would love to see it at night. It seems perfect for a date night or a night where you want to impress
My boyfriend found this and place from an Instagram post. The menu names are so much fun! We ordered: It's just mi -- a banh mi sandwich with super tender short ribs. Delish with a slight spicy sauce and pickled carrots. Turkey sandwich with bacon and avocado. Also delish with the millionaire bacon... omg... really makes the sandwich special . The fries for both sandwiches are sooo good! Benets -- apparently that's what they are known for. Comes with chocolate , raspberry sauces. The benets are probably the best we've had! So light... take a look at the picture... they are hollow inside! We were told everyone orders this and we can see why. Server was also very friendly and helpful with the suggestions.
The decor of this place is very upscale and pleasing, specially the bar area with the floating shelves and greenery around it. We got a reservation and were promptly seated. The drinks were pretty good and we got started with oysters and mussels and shrimp as appetizers. The sauce that the mussels came in was delicious, we ordered more bread to dip in that sauce. For main course, the salmon was medium rare, it was absolutely melt in the mouth! The octopus and pasta with lemon and cheese was good as well. For dessert, the beignets did not disappoint ! The sauces it came with were really good pairing as well. Overall, really good experience. Good food, service and overall experience!
Finally got a chance to try breakfast on a Saturday. We were seated right when we walked in at a great window table. The menu is creative and fun. We went for the banana custard French toast (Banana Republic) to share, the Benedict Arnold, and Croque Baldoni with an egg on top. We also ordered the French press of Academic Coffee. Delish!! The venue is really nice. The servers were all friendly and super cute in their black outfits. Definitely want to go back.
I go to down town SJ pretty often and just found this place off of yelp. We went there for a birthday, to sum up our experience, the service good but a bit slow, but that is understandable because it was super packed so we didn't mind. As for the food itself, it was a bit expensive for what it was. The food was good but nothing amazing. However, we really do appreciate their birthday celebration for us!! They brought out a free dessert and put this sparkler candle on it and lit it up, it was really cool and nice of them :) As for the ambiance, I would say it's a space where people could be loud and have fun without being looked at weird. The atmosphere was pretty loose and bar like, everyone was having a good time!
The press room is the place to be for a happy Friday night! Rosie is one of my favorite host. She is delighted to be round. Very polite and humble. We had few hiccups and she fixed them With a smile. The ambiance of the restaurant is super clean and very welcoming. The food is delicious and they can add few more items for vegetarian
My family took me to San Jose for a post-birthday brunch since I didn't really feel like celebrating my birthday this year after having like five celebrations already lol but they still didn't disappoint. As soon as I walked in, I already loved the ambience clean, cand very well organized. The food came out quickly and was really good and of course the Banana Republic French toast was the star of my meal absolutely the highlight of my birthday
Still one of the best happy hour deals in DTSJ! Their half priced cocktails can't be beat. Only wish they had some snackier / smaller bites to eat. Tried some of their newer drinks and enjoyed them both, especially the Bourbon Bulletin. Had no problem getting a seat before 4, but it got pretty full around the bar near the end around 5. Always appreciate the quick and attentive bartenders!

Came here with my coworkers for a small bachelorette dinner! The food was AMAZING. I want to come back for a cute little date night with my bf before heading out to downtown. We had a group of around 8 I think and did a family style type of dinner. We ordered the milk bread, mussels and prawns, poke nachos, caviar potato pave, and prime ny steak frites. Everything was so good!! The bread and the two butters it came with were really good. The bread that came with mussels and prawns were really good too, it was toasted with some seasonings and it paired really well with the leftover seafood sauce. The caviar was alright but the potato in the dish was great. Service was great. it took a while for the server to fix our wobbly table but it's fine, they seemed really busy and was able to fix it eventually. Overall fun place to take a big group for a cute dinner. Food was amazing, definitely on the pricier side though, but the vibes were great! read more
Arrived around noon on Friday before Fourth of July, thought they would have brunch but they only have that on weekends!! The lunch menu was still good tho and liked everything i ordered! We got the 1/2 dozen oysters, ahi poke appetizer, and shared the salmon entree. Service was very good, food came out in a good amount of time. The oysters were fresh, the ahi poke was ample and good flavor profile with fresh tuna and spicy mayo. The salmon was already halved for us which was such a nice touch as we mentioned we were sharing. Everything tastes healthy and not salty which we liked. Def want to come back for brunch!! Came here to celebrate my bestie's birthday and instantly loved the atmosphere. The restaurant is gorgeous and the food presentation was nice. Unfortunately, the mussels were a miss for us, though I've heard great things about them, so it may have just been an off day. I'd definitely return for another special occasion! read more
It had been a little over a year since my last visit, and the improvements are unmistakable. The PR team has clearly made significant strides, and it shows throughout the entire experience. The food and service were outstanding--not that they weren't good before, but everything felt elevated and more refined. The star of the evening was the Caviar Potato Pavé. I could have easily ordered four more rounds of those alone. Absolutely incredible. Chef's kiss. Just found out they also have a decent HH so will be back more frequently for everyday casual occasions. Until next time! read more

I enjoying dining here for brunch and dinner. Place feels more on the upscale side especially right when you enter at the large front door. Watching the details of the restaurant from your table to glancing the high ceilings gives it a nice vibe. Service is great and they're attentive. Food is delicious but on the pricey side. The only downside was I ordered an espresso martini (Milli Vanilli Espresso Martini) and while it tasted good, it was not how I imagined it to be... no coffee beans or smooth frothy layer at the top but lots of coffee grinds. Another person ordered the same and our espressos just oddly looked different from one another. I'm big on how my drinks taste AND looks so wasn't too pleased about it. I know if I pointed it out to our waitress , they would have fixed it since I do recognize their hospitality. Overall, it was a good experience. read more
Been here twice for brunch and have had a good experience. The menu is witty and funny. There are so many fun cocktail and drink options to choose from. We will slowly drink and eat our way through their menu. Ordered a ham and cheese omelette with the house potatoes. Delicious. Also ordered a matcha gin cocktail that tastes pretty good. Not like gin and maybe a hint of matcha. Service is pretty fast and friendly. The decor is pretty cool, mid century modern to go on the theme of an old newsroom. read more

I made reservations for Sunday brunch. There were a few parties at the restaurant by the time we got there. Overall, the food and drinks were great. Service left something to be desired. We'd like to come back for lunch or dinner, and hopefully the service will be better. Service 3/5 The person who took our drink order told us that she wasn't our server and that they would be right with us. Drinks took a surprisingly long time to come out, especially considering how few parties were seated. Someone came by to refill our water and asked if he could get us drinks. We told him that we had already ordered drinks awhile ago and ended up asking if he could take our food order. Once we got drinks and the food came out, multiple people swung by to check on us. By the end of the meal, we were still unsure who our server was. Drinks 5/5 We got the Pear Review and a mango mimosa. Both were solid drinks. Food 5/5 We got the Benedict Arnold and I'm Not a Crook. My husband ordered house potatoes and was served hash browns, but it worked out in the end. Both dishes were really great and well seasoned. The cook on the steak was a lot on. We'd definitely recommend these two dishes. read more

Went here for Valentine's Day lunch! Really loved it. The food was wonderful as were the drinks. This place is quite upscale and has that kind of ambiance. It has an adjoining bar with which the restaurant shares the restrooms. The staff were very friendly and so was the hostess at the front. They were nice to accommodate my wish to sit away from the massive door because it was chilly that day. The restrooms are super clean. Overall great place and definitely coming back to try out the other items! Since it was Valentine's Day, each group was given a long stem rose at the end of the meal. Nice touch! I had the French toast with banana pudding filling - it was a bit oily on the outside but the pudding was delicious and super fulfilling Husband had the burger and fries. Friend recommended we meet here for dinner during a recent business trip. We were able to get a table without reservations on a Wednesday. I ordered a non-alcoholic drink which was tasty and served over crushed ice. We split brussel sprouts and pork belly apps, the. The salmon (wild) entree. Brussels were delish! Had julienned green apple on top with tangerine foam, and some tiny croutons. Pork belly looked to be Korean inspired on the menu, but was more like sweet n sour pork. Salmon was Devine and cooked perfectly medium rare. We split a lemon cheesecake for dessert which was refreshing and not too sweet. Loved all the plants which made a great atmosphere for our dinner. read more
Saw this place popup on my Yelp recommendations while looking for a place to celebrate my gf's birthday. Upon arrival, there is this huge wooden door that caught us by surprise when walking in. We had a reservation and our host seated us right away. Our server was very accommodating and made sure we were comfortable with everything. At first glance we saw that the food options were pretty limited given that it's only 1 page and all the drinks were on the back. Luckily we saw what wanted and got 4 appetizers and an entree to share What we ordered: Oysters (5/5) - we didn't get a chance to ask what type they were but the oysters were huge and very creamy. Super fresh! Housemade milk bread (4/5) - circular bread that came with plain butter and bone marrow infused butter. We liked how they tasted like an everything bagel Poke Nachos (2/5) - unfortunately the most disappointing dish of the night. Came with 3 huge wontons layered with poke and tomatoes. We felt like the flavors were lacking and plain, nothing too special. Brussels sprouts (5/5) - came with apple slices and breadcrumbs. The dish felt super light and was a great palette cleanser to balance out the other heavier items. Our favorite appetizer so far here! Prime burger (5/5) - honestly the staple of the night, best tasting burger we had in a while. Every ingredient felt super fresh and the flavors packed a punch. Would highly recommend ordering this if you eat here. For drinks we ordered the pear review and the byline fizz. Both of the drinks were delicious, loved them very much Bonus point to our server for surprising my gf with a candle on the Dubai chocolate cake we ordered for dessert. Overall, such an amazing experience and a great place to celebrate a birthday dinner. read more

Absolutely loved this place for date night! Me and my wife have passed this place so many times and finally gave it a try and did not disappoint. The ambiance is calm and relaxing a perfect place for a couples date night. The service was quick and attentive the staff checked in often. I ordered the burger Fries and mash potatoes, the fries were so addictive I couldn't stop eating them, the mash was super creamy, and finally the burger was juicy! But not greasy at all, the fries also it was quite surprisingly how light it felt. Obviously the price is a bit higher than I would want but it was worth it. read more

House made milk bread: 11/10 I'm still thinking about this... it's so soft and the Calabrian chili butter... the only thing that sucked was that there wasn't more butter *cries* Caviar potato pave?: 9/10 I can't remember what they were called but it was a tasty bite! I could have a plate of these if they didn't cost so much *cries again* Agnolotti: 10/10 so delicious the truffle was not too strong Steak frites: 8/10 good medium rare, very flavorful and fries were super crispy Fried chicken: 8/10 good with the sauces/gravy Pork belly: 7/10 I probably wouldn't get this again. Overall it was a very good experience. We walked in and were greeted by the hostess and seated right away. The restaurant had very nice ambiance and everyone was very attentive. The waitress asked if we wanted to start with beignets and they did not disappoint. They came with 3 sauces: chocolate, raspberry, and dulce de leche. The best sauce was the chocolate mixed with the raspberry. The Dulce de leche was a little thick for our liking. All of our main courses were good and filling. Some of the food did come out a little cold. The plating was nice on all the food and again the service was excellent. read more
I stumbled upon this place while walking through downtown San Jose and immediately told my husband, 'We need to check this place out!' It's a gorgeous restaurant, and I knew right away it would be a great date-night spot. The inside is just as impressive--the space is beautifully designed with a newspaper-themed aesthetic that feels both stylish and unique. It really adds to the overall experience. After looking into The Pressroom, I realized they offer a daily happy hour, which is rare to find in the South Bay--especially at a more upscale restaurant. We walked in without a reservation and were immediately seated. We started with cocktails. I tried the Pear Review and the Rewrite, and both were excellent. My husband had The Standard and absolutely loved it. We ordered exclusively from the happy hour menu, and everything impressed us. The oysters ($2!!) were phenomenal--small and sweet, just how we like them. We also tried the Millionaire Bacon Bao Buns, which admittedly looked a bit underwhelming at first, but completely delivered on flavor. The Pressroom is a stellar addition to the downtown brunch scene. The space itself has a really cool, open design. Sleek modern booths mixed with an awesome comic-noir mural backdrop that gives it a unique, stylish edge. It's vibrant and upscale without feeling stuffy. The food and drinks are highly photogenic, but thankfully, they actually deliver on flavor too. read more
We came for happy hour before a sharks game and had a wonderful experience, we've already thought about coming back! The sliders were so delicious, all around, the bun, the sauce, the meat! Went to The Pressroom for brunch with my girls. There is only garage and street parking as the restaurant is located in Downtown San Jose. Just be mindful of that if you have a reservation. I ordered the Benedict Arnold with hash browns. The eggs Benedict was served on sliced bread with prosciutto and caviar. Honestly, I ordered this dish because of the caviar and the dish did not disappoint! Hashbrowns were crispy and delicious. The eggs Benedict was really good too! The plate was the perfect portion. I sampled the chilaquiles and the avocado toast from my girls. The chilaquiles with short rib had nice flavor and chips were still crunchy. The avocado toast was so refreshing! Really enjoyed that one too. The restraint was beautiful inside! Our servers were nice too. We asked if she can take a picture for us and she had no problem doing so. HH Food: 4.7/5: Fried mac and cheese balls $12. Perfect texture inside and out. But not enough flavor; they need to melt in some parmesan cheese. 4.7: Short rib sliders $12. High quality in every way. 4.0: Bacon bao buns $14. Too pre-fabricated. But still tasty. HH Drinks: 4.3/5: Pear review $9. Too dry and flat. It would be better with an absinthe rinse on the glass to give it more backbone. 4.0: Bourbon Bulletin $9. The drink is thick and gloopy, which also mutes the flavor. Came here with my family, party of 8. The restaurant is gorgeous and their bar has a sexy vibe. The menu is a bit limited, but there's something for everyone. Came here for lunch with some coworkers since we were in the area. The lunch menu is mostly sandwiches, so I ordered the chicken salad sandwich ($24). It came with a choice of fries or a side salad, I got the fries and they were really good with just the right amount of crispiness! The sandwich was good but nothing special, it definitely tasted healthy. The ambiance is nice and the restaurant is nicely decorated for the holidays! How is parking?
Downtown San Jose has paid metered street parking until 6pm Mon-Sat (free Sunday's and holidays) with two large parking garages within a block or two. Pretty easy. Event nights at the SAP center may create limited parking because of demand.

I expect so. It's a full service restaurant. However, I believe no one under 21 is allowed to sit at the bar in any restaurant.
