Secco is located inside the Hilton San Jose. Started off with the truffle garlic fries which were surprisingly tasty. The guacamole and salsa chips looked good too. The ribeye medium rare turned out tasty. The steak came out medium rare and had a ton of gravy over it. The side bed of vegetables were tasty as well as the super fragrant garlic mashed potatoes. The salmon dish looked dry, and I heard the spaghetti tasted like it came from a can. I also heard the salad was lacklustre. Service was inconsistent by the staff. Fanime 2026 is here again and as part of our tradition, we enjoy our Friday night meal at Secco. No Fanime menu again this year, but their regular menu is always good. I believe I got the same thing as the grilled chicken sandwich (renamed as Caprese Sandwich, add chicken) and the crab dip. Crab Dip: This was absolutely delicious. The bread slices were charred (though labeled grilled on the menu). They were buttered to perfection and had the right amount of surface area to have a spoonful of crab dip on. Not to mention, the crab dip itself was superb. It was full of crab and corn and was a nice start to our meal. Chicken Caprese Sandwich: Similar to what I had last year, this thing was delicious. The chicken was grilled perfectly for me and the sandwich held itself on each bite. It was not too saucy and had the right amount of produce for me. The fries were also crispy and scrumptious. Our server this year was Lloyd and he did a great job attending to us. Sima was also here, but she was serving a different section. Their online menu doesn't seem to list a bevvie that featured vodka and a few other things finished with a basil leaf. We really came here for a later dinner, and were met with satisfaction. High marks for the Prosciutto & Fig Flat Bread (stracciatella cheese, prosciutto, fig jam, arugula). Great flavors, perfect crunch. We could have almost stopped after splitting this good-sized pizza. We also both got the Korean Chicken Bowl (grilled chicken thighs, baby bok choy, sweet peppers, steamed jasmine rice, bulgogi sauce, scallions). A welcome combination of protein and produce (yes, with some grains, too). Required a serious stir, but that's fine. At first, the bowl looked rather modest, but it's hearty. I really did like this, though it was definitely a bit salty for my taste. Happily, the cold water was refilled a few times, and that was refreshing. Service was fine. Warmly greeted. Service was attentive from start to finish. For starters, we ordered the Crispy Tofu Bites and Garlic Fries. The Tofu was excellent, but it had an unusual coating on it, so we asked our server. They use Yucca (Cassava) to coat the tofu in order to bind it together. There's no flavor, but makes the dish stickier. Delicious! Unfortunately, we had to send our cold fries back. The second batch was fine. All three entrees were enjoyed immensely. But the food was good, didn't have to wait long for anything, and it's a very beautiful place. It's located right next to lobby and the doors into the walkway to the convention center so taking a break in the middle of a busy con day there is ideal. It's really a perfect place to have a relatively quiet meal ( it is in the hotel lobby area) and then a short walk to the theater. My dining experience at Secco Restaurant on July 7, 2026, was disappointing, largely because of what appeared to be inadequate staffing. Sima my server was doing her best, but she was clearly overwhelmed as the only server covering both the dining room and the outdoor patio. The absolute WORST service! Our sever, Lloyd was so rude from start to finish. ZERO friendliness and not one smile. We got the wrong drink, he never checked in on us. We had to flag him down just to get basic service. We finished our meals and just sat around waiting to try to make eye contact so we could pay and get some boxes. He just ignored us multiple times. Finally we were able to flag him down when he came to the table next to us and I asked him for boxes and pointed to my credit card which I had out waiting for him and told him we were in a hurry. He said ok and walked away without taking my card. He then went to the bar then another table then another table outside and then to another table to grab their payment. We had a show to get to and he was just ignoring us. So I walked to the sever station and Kevin who identified himself as the manager was there. I told him what was going on and asked for our check and some boxes. Then Lloyd walked up and said he was gonna get the boxes and I told him we were in a hurry and he and rudely told me that "Everyone's in a hurry." At this point we had been waiting for more than 10 min. Kevin did not intervene or tell Lloyd to stop his disrespect. The service was the worst!!!!! read more

My coworkers were looking to go to lunch at a spot that was walkable from the office and I discovered this spot on Yelp. It is in the Hilton and is a pretty low key spot. The interior was aesthetically pleasing and the ambiance was nice, and not too loud. We also came in as a ~15 person group and they were very accommodating and service was still quick, so we really appreciated that. For apps, we split a bunch of them: flat bread margherita, ciabatta & burrata, truffle fries, bread basket, hummus and pita. We enjoyed all of them but the flat bread was by far my favorite of all of the apps. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and it came with fries as well. It was huge so it was pretty hard to eat but still enjoyable and good value for the price. I also ordered an Arnold Palmer and they kept on refilling it! Secco is the restaurant in the Hilton San Jose, adjacent to the McEnery Convention Center, and just a short walk from the VTA light rail station. Look to the right as you enter the hotel's main entrance on Almaden; it's facing you if you enter from the Convention Center side. The ambiance is California casual. There is a bar area, with a dining area behind the bar, and a nice patio for outdoor dining. I dined here twice. One time I had the chips with guacamole and salsa, plus the chicken quesadilla for my main. Both were very good. Their salsa is a smooth purée. It was thick enough to coat the chips. I prefer a chunky salsa, but aside from the texture, I loved it. Great flavor and a pleasant amount of heat. The chips are housemade and sturdy enough for the guacamole. The guac was good, but not as good as the salsa. The quesadilla was great. Plenty of meat and cheese between perfectly crispy tortillas, served with guac, salsa, and sour cream. Loved it! On the second visit I had the Cali Burger. Juicy and flavorful. And perfectly garnished so that you got some of each of the veggies in each bite. The fries are the skinny kind, and crispy. I was very happy with both. Service was friendly and attentive. There are few hotel restaurants I'd bother with if I weren't staying there. Secco is one of them. read more

Three of us had brunch here on a Sunday. We were attending a Broadway SJ show after brunch. The menu is business travel expensive ($23 for two eggs, three sausage links and country potatoes). Espresso beverages end at 10:30am when the person that makes them leaves their morning shift. The room is loud when multiple tables are occupied but not full, yet it is bright and nicely decorated. There's a small patio that was closed when we were there on a beautiful day. I love the availability of this establishment within the hotel. It was pretty empty around dinner time it's about 6:00 p.m. on a Friday night we were going to stay there at the hotel and go to a show across the street so it's perfect it's eat down there and then going with our evening. So we were the only customers there until another couple arrived well into our meal. We started with a order of chips and some salsa and guacamole very simple and then we ordered a few more appetizers some fries some wings and that's about it I chose most expensive entree on the menu for my dinner which was a seafood fettuccini ask for it to be spicy cuz I like flavor and they come with the flavor. I did ask for more whatever they put in it to be spicy cuz it really wasn't spicy to me and it was like just some chili oil so they gave me some extra chili oil I ate about a third of it they put in to go box and get me more chili oil to go which was perfect. The restaurant itself is pretty clean send my modern it could be nicer with some music with the patio doors open but it wasn't quite summer time and I get it it's not bustling right now. Overall I definitely would eat there again given stand at this establishment. And it also makes me rethink eating in restaurant that are within hotels cuz I often stay away from that and go seek food outside cuz I feel like it's going to be like everything microwavable but it actually felt okay. read more

I stopped by with three colleagues after a conference related happy hour earlier today and we ordered bread pudding with ice cream (recommended by the server), churro, and two servings of tiramisu. The bread pudding was hands down the best - warm with the right ingredients and texture - served with a dollop of cream, and a generous helping of the best vanilla ice cream I've had in a while! The churros were tough and chewy - I didn't enjoy them at all. I didn't really taste the tiramisu, as my colleagues finished it with relish, and I don't mean the condiment! We popped in between the Meet & Greet and the actual show at the Center for Performing Arts. The space was easy to find since it's right in the center after you walk in. It was very pleasant. There were low couches with tables, a nice bar (although no foot rails, boo....but there were purse hangers). I loved the tile work and lighting. There were two large screen tvs and we sat so my husband could watch both. Past the bar, there were high tables, more low tables, and then a good sized dining room with normal tables. The bartender took great care of us (Belucia? She was great.) and checked in regularly but not hovering. She had a deft hand in making the cocktails. Loved just watching. Someone from the kitchen brought out our food. I liked the presentation. My grilled peach salad with chicken added on was perfect. It was a lot of arugula which I liked and a good amount of grilled peach, blueberries, and candied pecans. The chicken was moist and tender and was a perfect balance. We split the dumplings since we wanted to try a few things and hubby said he tasted the lemongrass on the second bite. I thought they were pleasant and the sauce was nice. Hubby felt it needed a slight bit more acid like a soy vinegar used with gyoza. Hubby had the asada bowl and he enjoyed it. Normally he's not big on corn in dishes since it seems to him that it gets put in just for color. In this case, he felt it added quite well to the experience. (he's a super taster...so when I cook something he really likes, I break my arm patting myself on the back). The tiramisu looked lovely and had two plump and ripe blackberries and raspberries which were great. The tiramisu itself fell a little flat. The ladyfingers tasted more waterlogged than alcohol-logged. We still finished it For drinks, I had a Sidecar (yum), a pinot grigio with the salad and a cabernet with the tiramisu. Hubby had 2 single malts (neat, thank you). One thing he noticed was that out of the 2 he asked for, they had, well, none. But they had others that worked. The bathrooms were out and all the way down the hall to the end of the building where there's an exit only. Men to the right, Women to the left. It was a large bathroom and very clean. So, to sum up, do try this place. The chef is clearly close to something amazing. The flavors are close and the execution is perfect - and that's the most important thing. (per hubby). I say pop in for a drink and an app if you're downtown. Eat dinner if you're there for a show. Yes, it's pricey but the portions were respectable for what you're paying.
