Walking in the Bywater back to our rental, chance and curiosity made me go inside Frady's and I'm really glad of what happened. I'd had a pound of crawfish for lunch at Captain Sal's nearby (fabulous) but mini muffulettas were right under my nose and the gal behind the cash register was super friendly. Wow! Is all I can say. We drove from California and this was one of our non negotiable's! It doesn't disappoint, the shrimp poboy was ***chefs kiss*** the bread was fresh and delicate but help up well being it was a sandwich, the shrimps were so crispy and fresh... we also got a dinner plate, red beans and rice, andouille sausage, a pork chop, scallop potatoes and greens. When tell you the flavors were perfection and took me back to my childhood when my caregiver cooked her southern recipes full of love... this was THAT! This is a must stop for a po' boy when you're in New Orleans! We went around lunch time on Saturday. The line was not long and our group was able to order quickly. We ordered the shrimp and roast beef and both were very good. The shrimp was my favorite and I'll definitely order that again. The prices are reasonable. The owner was working and he was extremely nice and welcoming. He definitely added to the experience. One note, they only accept cash so make sure you plan ahead. While in New Orleans over Thanksgiving, I made it my personal mission to try as many different Poboys as possible. Frady's had been bookmarked for me for quite some time. We came on a Wednesday afternoon, right before they closed for the Thanksgiving holiday. It was probably poor timing or just unfortunate luck, but I don't feel like we had the best Frady's experience. They ran out of bread after we ordered our sandwiches so we ended up getting piecemeal Frankenstein bread for our Poboys. The service felt a little rushed and annoyed. I'm not sure if it was because it was right before closing or the holiday time but this definitely was not the best Poboy that I had in New Orleans. I will give it another shot the next time I'm in town, but it felt very average all around. read more

We stopped by Frady's on a random late Wednesday afternoon. This is a small, busy location with no inside seating. We placed our order relatively quickly and our food was cooked fresh then. We had a catfish platter with the sides of the day (green beans, sweet apples, potato salad), a roast beef poboy, and a fried shrimp poboy. Every single thing was delicious, even the freshly made potato salad (which a lot of places don't do right). The other great plus is their prices. They have refrigerator units with sodas and local drinks (plus the local pies if you haven't tried them yet). They have short daytime hours - no dinner - so make sure you get there on time. Our bike tour guide recommended Frady's as the best place to get a po boy. It's unassuming and full of locals... you can tell the minute you walk in it's going to be good. Having never been there, I didn't really understand their system of ordering/paying, but both the staff and the other patrons were friendly and helpful - no one seemed irritated to have a clueless tourist in the shop. We ordered the shrimp po boy, catfish po boy and the roast beef. I'd pass on the roast beef next time and swap it out for the hot sausage, which I'm having major regrets about not ordering. My favorite of the ones we ordered was the shrimp, but some of my kids liked the catfish best. Because seating is limited, we took the sandwiches a block down to the park to eat. In retrospect, this was a bad idea. The sandwiches are messy and the tables at the park are disgusting and unsanitary. If there isn't enough actual seating outside Frady's for your group, I think your best bet is just to sit on the curb and enjoy them. The park is fine for playing after... I just wouldn't eat there. CASH ONLY, fyi. The best places to go in a city are almost always where the locals go, and that's the case with Frady's. Do try it! read more
