Visiting from PA over the 4th of July we stumbled onto Killer Poboys by accident while hanging out at Erin Rose, and what a surprise. After a couple of beers, we noticed the little po'boy counter tucked in the back and figured we'd give it a shot. Best decision of the day. The sandwich was packed with flavor, served fresh, and exactly what you want after spending some time at a great New Orleans dive bar. I love finding places like this, no hype, no gimmicks, just really good food hidden where you'd least expect it. The Poboy here is to die for! Honestly I was a bit intimidated walking through here alone, going past a rowdy crowd of mainly older white Gen X men to end up in this hole of a wall to order through an even smaller hole in the wall service booth. The ordering experience was a bit gruff and rough around the edges, but from then on, everything went right. First, you can hang out in the bar area at Erin Rose (I swear the crowd was friendlier than they looked) and eat there if there's space. I highly recommend their Paradise Peach, which seems to be from a local brewery. The bright, peach flavor of the lager does well to wash down the sandwich in the summer heat. I went with an order of the Braised Beef Debris Poboy and this is hands down not just the best Poboy I've ever had in my life, but the best beef or steak any sandwich I've ever had in my life! I wolfed it down so quickly and have to say the pickled green bean and banana peppers with that spike of horseradish sauce really sent this Poboy soaring! The braised beef was absolutely perfect and tender, amazingly so! I can get a bit picky about beef because I hate it when it's tough or gristly or has too much fatty parts that won't melt down, but I didn't have a problem with any of that. I'm no butcher, but seemed like they used a good part of the beef of what's already a fairly quality cow (Louisiana Wagyu Beef I recall reading) or maybe it was the whole braising process, but I wish I could have this for days! I'm going to be sad going back to Houston and not being able to eat this, but hopefully it'll still be around and just as amazing next time I'm back in town. read more

I'm not an authority on poboys, but I've been told this is not really a traditional poboy and that it's more of a cross between poboy and bahn mi, with all the pickled vegetables. I know I love bahn mi, so I was sold. It's tucked away at the back of the bar, which is already pretty small. But the service was so friendly. I placed my order and then went to the front of the house to grab a frozen Irish coffee. There's one six people ish table and some small bar space in the Killer Poboys area, so I sat by the bar solo until my sandwich came out. I got the grilled shrimp poboy-- it reminded me a lot of the grilled shrimp sandwich from Num Pang, which is an NYC institution I miss dearly. But the bread is much softer and plentiful. The mayo and the overflowing pickled carrots makes it a messy experience. For Gulf shrimp, the fishy taste was almost nonexistent, a testament to the good seasoning and grilling. For my taste it was a little too sweet, which I should've known from the description of the glaze. Even so, it was very tasty and a few drops of hot sauce helped a lot. I love the bread, which seemed different from the standard French loaf you get elsewhere. This roll is more like Bahn mi bread, with a nice crisp crust and a lighter airy interior. I really liked the greens, a nice touch of semi healthy, after all the super rich fried food I've been eating. The seasoning was nice and complicated. Again it was a little sweet for my taste, but again hot sauce helped a lot. This restaurant feels like some individual or group just had some good ideas and opened up a shop to do something a little different based in New Orleans cuisine. Note that their sandwiches are not the typical traditional poboys one may think of. The shrimp were cooked/seared perfectly--well-seasoned while still keeping that natural sweetness of fresh shrimp. We ordered two different poboys and shared. We tried the Pork belly poboy. The Pork belly poboy is pork belly in a Smoky brown sugar bbq sauce. It was so very good. The sauce was darn good and fit the pork belly perfectly. The shrimp poboy was nicely seasoned It has a spicy slaw of sorts with carrots that is to die for. Mind you when I say spicy I mean flavor filled not hot. From first bite to last so, So satisfying! The Bread is great! Holds up to toppings nicely. Came here for a quick po boy. Didn't realize that they had a nice Asian twist on a lot of their sandwiches. I got the beef debris and it was so delicious with a sweet soy flavor. It had a very Korean flavor and was delicious. The bread got a little soggy, but I didn't mind and it held together well enough to eat, but probably wouldn't try to take that sandwich to go. They didn't have any iced coffee but their hot coffee did the trick for me. Overall a cool place to try a different type of po boy. read more

New Orleans is definitely a favorite food city of mine. This place is a jewel and I'll pull up whenever I'm blessed with being in town. Place is in the back of a bar but they are going crazy in the space they have. Menu has something for everybody, I'm still upset I never tried the sweet potato poboy with the greens and black eyed peas in it (¿WHAT?). Even the grilled cheese has gotta be good because the stuff I did eat was exceptional. Beef debris is full of tender beef with pickled green beans (first time for me, liked it). Also tried the shrimp poboy which was also really great, fresh with good amount of fresh shrimp and pickled daikon, carrots and cucumber. Bread was soft with a good chew and held up against the flavorful fillings. Depressing I can't find stuff like this at home, just something about NOLA I guess People were friendly and it's nice to have a drink while you wait for your food. But honestly it's a pro move to grab a great sandwich and frozen Irish coffee at the same time. We tried the Black Beer Beef Debris Poboy and the Seared Gulf Shrimp Poboy. Beef: 6/10 honestly not a huge fan of this one. The bread is great but the beef doesn't have a good meaty flavor. The toppings were not our favorite either. Shrimp: 10:10 this poboy is definitely comparable to a bahn mi, but that doesn't take away from the fact that this is a wonderful sandwich. The shrimp are juicy and flavorful with hints of lime, the toppings are fresh and compliment the sandwich nicely, and the sauce is delicious. Killer Poboys inside Erin Rose Bar is an absolute hidden gem. Don't be fooled by the dive bar vibes--these are arguably the best po'boys in the French Quarter. We went on a Wednesday afternoon at 1 PM, and, true to Bourbon Street fashion, the bar was already buzzing. Just walk to the back, past the bar goers, and you'll find a small, unassuming alcove on the left where you order your food.
