    Gingerbread Workshop 2025
    Kyla Z.

Coco and Hazel has become a part of our family memories. The kids love the special days when we go and have the huge cake/cookie/ and candy milkshakes. Today we went to the Gingerbread Workshop. I wish it had more organization and a leader from the restaurant. Essentially they gave us a space to decorate the freshly baked gingerbread houses. Overall, the kids loved it! They each brought a friend and made houses together. There were also lots of treats that could be bought in addition to the gingerbread. There were peppermint hot chocolates and flights of lattes.

Coco and Hazel is a really cool "undiscovered gem" in the region. It's conveniently located, but just far enough off of the beaten path to feel like a real discovery when you find it. The interior is clean and well-maintained with a fun vibe (though personally, I'll never understand the recent fascination with the Mexican-style "sugar skulls"). The young ladies working today were very friendly and helpful; I overheard them carefully explaining menu concerns to the customer in front of me in great detail. Service was so fast that I didn't even see my breakfast sandwich arrive! Being Fall, I opted for a two-pack of the apple cider donuts, whereupon I was informed that all of their bakery goods are made fresh in-house! They happily made a custom coffee drink for my wife, and mine was delicious. The bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit is ENORMOUS, easily enough to share, and probably twice as big as most place's biscuits. I noticed the Gelato display from Gelato Celesti, which I will definitely order next time (when my wife isn't watching my calorie intake....). Overall, every was just really tasty and made correctly. I didn't give five stars because anything was particularly AMAZING, but rather because everything was consistently great and there was no obvious shortcomings. I would definitely return when I'm in the area.

Overall this is a nice place, but parking is less than ideal and the costs are kind of high for what you get. It's a nice place for special occasions if you want to get a crazy shake. I wouldn't say I'd visit regularly though.

Cool retro vibe. Very clean, staff was friendly. Not thrilled with our beverages just flat. Ordered Mexi-Mocha. I asked if the Mocha was spicy. Was told yes, had cayenne powder. Never found any heat in my mocha.

My bestie and I had an incredible time at Coco + Hazel. I feel like their desserts have improved since the last time I've gone (granted that was like two years ago). From my understanding, there is only one location now and it's under new ownership. This spot is absolutely gorgeous. There is tons of natural lighting and every corner feels like it's made for a photo. I loved all their Halloween decorations, their plant wallpaper, and their neon sign. Lots of things are a photo op here. We decided to share the mini coconutty loaded milkshake and a mini Oaxacan loaded milkshake. There was only one person working when we got there and they kindly warned us that it would take a little bit to prep things. Thankfully we weren't in a rush. We sat at the comfy couches by the windows. Note: there are a variety of couches and tables at this location. I believe there is some outdoor seating as well, but it was raining when we went so we didn't venture outside. When our milkshakes arrived, we were in love. I highly recommend ordering the coconutty if you're a coconut fan. It was sooooo good. The Oaxacan was a delicious cinnamon chocolate milkshake. The ice cream sandwich cookie was pretty good. These milkshakes are heavy, we could barely finish the two minis we ordered. I ended up feeling high on sugar so was happy that they sold savory things like chips to balance it out. They also have coffees and other treats here. My friend got an iced banana pistachio latte that was really yummy. If you want a made to be photographed, massive sweet treat, I highly recommend checking out Coco + Hazel.

My friend and I chose Coco+Hazel as our option for Galentines and we had a great time. You order at the counter and the employees were friendly and inviting. We had dinner there and I chose the chicken salad wrap. It was delicious! It usually comes on a croissant but I wanted something that felt a little lighter and it was perfect. It had almonds and grapes in it which is my favorite kind of chicken salad. We got the Valentines cocktail flight and I thought it was just ok. The four drinks we got to try were called Crimson Kiss, Eternal Romance, Pretty in Pink, and Love in the Clouds. My friend and I shared the drinks and one we didn't finish because it tasted a little bit like medicine. I think it was the Pretty in Pink one. The other ones were fun to try but I don't think I would want a full cup of any of them. I want to come back and try one of the milk shakes at some point.

This is an interesting place that I hope continues to grow. They have some great concepts: seasonal coffee flights, great desserts, that sort of thing. The coffee isn't bad, though it is a little pricey. I admit I went mostly for the excitement of a flight (which was a ton of fun, great for a group). The inside has sort of a weird atmosphere. It's a really big place with good seating but not so much that it fills the place, leaving it feeling pretty sterile instead of cozy. It's set up like they're always expecting a line out the door, so there's just a lot of negative space. The staff are friendly but I did have to remind them about a few things in my order multiple times. I think this is a really great place for teens/kids, since there's so much space and fun sugary options.

After leaving the movies at the Cinema Bistro at Stoney Point, I googled dessert places near me, and Coco + Hazel popped up. My co-worker recommended this place to me a few weeks ago, so we decided to give it a try. Upon pulling up, the atmosphere looked very nice. The bright lights were beaming out of the completely glass store front. The place was really clean and quiet. The atmosphere was really nice, bright lights and nice decor. I really loved the hanging candy, the day of the dead theme, and the floral prints. As our first time, we checked out the menu for a bit while we waited in line. We decided on 2 specialty cake shakes and a Bananarama to go. Since we got it to go, our cakes came on the side. The wait was about 15 minutes for our order, so we hung out in the lobby, took a few photos, and watched them make other orders. The drinks were nice and tasty. The rim of the to-go cups are covered in what looks/tastes like white chocolate and sprinkles and dark chocolate and crumbles. The cake shake my son, and I ordered tasted amazing. My husband wasn't a fan of his Bananarama. The cake tasted pretty good as well. Overall, it was a great experience. Only thing I would add is the staff person that took our order was a bit down. For the atmosphere, I expected much more upbeat service. But I would definitely recommend and go back!!

The coffee flights are a genius idea but they are on the pricey side and I'm betting the staff doesn't love making them lol. A lot of work goes into it so I get it but it's a bummer when the flavors don't work. The first time we did this was over the summer and we really enjoyed all of them but the winter break flavors did not deliver on taste. The maple chai? scone however was absolutely delicious. The inside feels a little underdressed bc it's a large space but there are some cozy spots you can stake out. Parking can be a real problem if it's even moderately busy though.

I can't believe that I have forgotten to rave about this place after I came here the other day. I follow these guys on Facebook because they always post their creative new flights, specials, baked goods, and gorgeous milkshakes. After trying forever to decide which flight sounded the best, we finally decided to come by and try "Always Room For", which is a fun play on desserts. Everything was so delicious and unique. Their baker is an absolute genius in the kitchen. We have tried a ton of the baked goods and every one has been AMAZING. The staff is all amazing and super friendly, and I really like the clean, open, and trendy vibe here. I LOVE their comfy sofas by the windows. We love coming here.

Dairy free ice cream! Very good

First time here and overall a good deal experience! First off very friendly people working at this location. The people behind the counter as well as the gentleman who served us our treats were very kind and attentive. Plenty of seating inside as well as couches and comfortable chairs as well as traditional tables and chairs. Lots of fun holiday decor in the shop as well! Now onto the food... It's primary a desert place but does have bagels as well as pastries, cookies, cinnamon buns, ice cream, coffee and hot chocolate! I tried the Cookie batter shake with the funfetti cake slice on top. The shake was delicious! I didn't eat the cake slice till 2 days later and it was a little dry but not sure if that was because of it being a little old. Still good flavor. My friend had the dairy free ice cream and I had a bite and it was delicious! This was a fun place to go to meet and catchup and have a treat!

    Tired face but happy!

It was ok. Nothing to rush back to get. It's just Tillamook ice cream blended to a milk shake.

I stopped by today and tried their Italian Grinder on house-made focaccia and it was absolutely incredible. The focaccia alone is worth the trip: golden, chewy, house-made and with just the right amount of crisp on the edges. It had layers of perfectly sliced Italian meats, sharp provolone, crunchy lettuce, and fresh banana peppers (added) that gave every bite a hit of tang and spice. It's a sandwich that feels both thoughtfully crafted and wildly indulgent. Even better, Polpetti is family-owned and operated, and you can taste the love in every bite. The owner makes everything in-house from the focaccia to the pasta salad and it shows. The pasta salad was the perfect side: fresh and balanced with the right amount of crunch from the peppers. The vibe is warm, welcoming, and personal, just like the food. This spot is a must-visit for sandwich lovers. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu and support this local gem! UPDATE: They now have a coffee menu, take & bake options and gelato!

Northerners pay attention…read more.. The pizza here is as good as it gets in Richmond. One bite and I was transported back to Brooklyn and the endless string of afternoon visits to my neighborhood pizza place. The pie was hot, cheesy, oily, and the crust, oh that crust! The pizza at Galley-To-Go is a trip back in time. Speaking of time, you will spend some here if you are planning to enjoy a pizza. Average waits for a pizza are at a half hour, but on a weekend evening, you can easily wait double that time. I don't mind waiting for good food, but I think the staff needs to be educated in being able to remind or even warn potential guests (especially first-timers) that their early night may become compromised, or if you have small children, you may do better in their regular "Galley" restaurant just a door away. The back-story behind how this transformed Asian restaurant became an RVA pizza mecca is intriguing and quite involved, but the short version is a New Jersey native who worked for the owners of the Galley named Guistino Riccio brought his family recipes to the Galley's managers, and they were immediately sold. When they transformed the former Mandarin Palace restaurant (the name still sits above the restaurant's doorway, as do other relics that remind you of the space's previous tenants), they put pizza ovens in the kitchen and a neon sign offering "Guistino's Pizza" over the kitchen entrance. Local legend says the owners are still arguing over the name of the "Galley to Go" space (part coffee shop, part grocery store, part cafe), but who cares if the pizza is this good. Well, you might if you want to get in and get out in a hurry (so order ahead, many do), OR if you want to adjust your pizza toppings. No substitutions for the varieties of pizza are permitted (a little concerning if your allergy requires a vegan pizza, which they offer but no protein is on it). So if you are willing to live with the potentially long waits, the small pizza oven capacities (we were told a 20-pie limit at any given time, so if there is a big to-go order, well, just enjoy your beverage SLOWLY while you wait), and the rigidity of the pizza menu (there are other menu items besides pizza but they are not the main draw here...) the Galley to Go may be your RVA pizza destination for a long time to come. I had the second half my pie the next day reheated, and it was just as good as my first bite, a sign that whatever they do in that kitchen, although a labor of love and long waits, is worth its weight in gold.

I came on a Thursday night and they said I would be 20min. But it was more like 10. I got the sausage and Fennel which is their House Mozzarella, Parmesan, Fresh Cracked Black Pepper all for $10.95. Boyfriend got the Sweet Hot which is Tomato Sauce, Pepperoni, House Mozzarella, Parmesan, Honey, Roasted Calabrian Peppers, Chili Oil and costs $11.95. So a pretty good value! Earlier in the month, I was finally able to check them out for the first time. I had my eye on their Italian hoagie, which is listed under the Cold section, but I know better at this point in time of living in the South and the many Italian hoagies that I have had to refrigerate. So I ordered it without the tomato or peppers and served cold. I ordered it through the bartender, who told me that they do serve them cold and that they were out of peppers that day. Turns out they were not out of peppers and they did not serve it cold. I can't eat peppers due to food sensitivities, so I sent it back and asked for it to be re-made. This was the bartender's mistake, from the receipt I could see that he didn't send those notes to Fat Kid, to be clear. The second rendition was made correctly, and it was definitely tasty, but they are overpriced. It's pretty obvious from my picture that this wasn't some hefty, super stuffed and loaded with meats/cheese hoagie. It looks like a normal 6" hoagie. Not worth $11 for it, in my opinion. I'd rather spend $16 at Stanley's or $10 for a full-size at Mr. Submarine.
