Ordered Carne Asada nachos and was very disappointed with the amount of food relative to what they are charging and their packaging. I'm addition the carne asada taste was mehhhh. I ordered this to go and when I got home from my ten minute drive was a wet mess bc they didn't cut a hole to vent the steam. All the steam stayed in the box and turned my chips to mush. Seems like a rookie move on their part. So I was left hungry bc portions are small, ate a slop of wet chips with bland tasting carne asada. Maybe this should be a one star but feeling generous today. read more

Two servers! (I'm in service industry, I understand cuts!) first one was fabulous. Wish we had her all night. Margaritas were top notch! Lucky us we stayed for happy hour! $3 off margaritas...still same drinks!! Apps were great too. We tried nachos w/chicken, coconut shrimp and then added quesadillas!! This has become on of our favorite eating spots in Hilo. The place is clean! The staff is very friendly and attentive to customers. One of my favorites is the cheesesteak sandwich. The bread is perfect, soft and chewy. I also like the flautas and nachos. We will definitely be back for more! read more

The owner of this establishment was very rude and not accommodating he is very lucky to have great staff to make up for it. I will not be coming back here or recommending it which is sad because other than a rude outburst from him to our party everything was pretty good. Food was okay and drinks were decent. The gem of Pahoa This place is awesome. Came for lunch, and 10/10 would come back again. The service was friendly and attentive from the moment I walked in. I came with a party of 3, all of us our first time. We were seated right away and our waitress took our drink orders as we started to look over the menu. When she came back, we went with her recommendations and they did not disappoint. I got the carne asada burrito, my grandma got the steak fajitas, and her friend got a chicken salad. Everything came out hot, and you know its good when there's silence at the table!!! We all tried a bit of each other's food because the portion sizes were local-sized (read: generous!) I've spent a lot of time in Southern California and had my fair share of Mexican food. The food took me right back to my happy place Didn't have too many drinks but I could see there were some folks having a good time at the bar as I walked out. It's hard to find a nice, clean restaurant with great food, good service, good atmosphere/ambience, and that isn't expensive. This place checks all the boxes and I'm looking forward to eating here again soon! read more

A hidden gem in Pahoa! I would highly advise for everyone to stop by. We came during happy hour (3-5) and it was phenomenal! The portions were big and the spicy margaritas were 10/10. Came here a few times, I like the big puna plate but every time the steak is overcooked almost as if there's no point in putting how you want it done and I like the food but ordered takeout. Plate was $25 jambalaya wasn't even full halfway Pahoa location is definitely better I honestly think it's because there's a different chef. There several differences in quality. Recommendation is to either lower prices or increase portions especially with other Mexican restaurants all around. Another thing tortilla soup wasn't really even full and there was guacamole on it where as Pahoa actually diced up avocado. As a new restaurant it's tough! My Carne asada burrito was drowned in a sauce made from taco seasoning, you know those packets you use at home on taco night...yeah it was bad. The steak didnt tasted marinated amd was tough tonchew. No pico de gallo and the rice tasted like it was uncle bens boxed kine rice. No flavor at all in the beans and rice. Will never be going back, don't waste your money people. I took the first bite of my torta sandwich and couldn't bite into the chicken. My dissection of the sandwich revealed a thick, charred and criminally over cooked slab of chicken you had to use a knife and fork to slice. No way it could have been eaten as a sandwich. The bread was flavorless and pasty. Any restaurant should be able to make decent French fries. Hint to the cooks, if they are pasty white and limp they aren't cooked. This must be their standard fry prep as we had their smothered fries a couple of months ago and they were the same crinkle cut limp things. Put a little effort into it. Maybe the owners should actually look at the quality of food being sent out the door. My husband had the Mexican torta. It was a total miss on flavors. He says the hamburger patty was very low quality, the chorizo was questionable and the bacon flavorless. read more

SO yummy! Hot and fresh chips with homemade perfect red salsa as soon as you sit down. My tacos were super tasty as was my husband and son's surf and turf fajitas. Good homemade guacamole. Big portions (we are leaving with a whole other meal). Delicious black beans (perfect rich and smoky flavor). Service was good, attentive, and friendly. Great place to eat outside. Bottomless soda and chips and salsa. (I mentioned those chips and salsa, right? With that being said, I was very disappointed as I got the most expensive dish and discovered after taking it home, that it was missing several of the ingredients listed on the menu. What is Mexican food without salsa? It was supposed to have lettuce and tomatoes, which is why I ordered it. There were no tomatoes and only a tiny bit of lettuce. We jumped on over to the Big Island to visit, and we're pleasantly surprised. We have not had great Mexican food options since moving to Oahu and this place hit the spot. It's a very inviting space and the staff were all friendly and kind considering we got there 10 min before they closed. We ordered the carnita flautas to start and these appeared to be made with flour tortilla, which threw us off, but still good. I ordered the coco carne asada which was cooked perfectly and the grilled jalapeño provided the spicy kick that I could not quite achieve with the salsa. My husband ordered the chili verde and was pleased. Overall, food needs a bit more spice and salt, but otherwise everything was delicious, and the service and atmosphere were great! If we lived here this place would easily be a regular spot! read more

Had some time to kill in Hilo so we were looking for a place to eat at 2:30pm. Alot of places wwere closed but they were open. Best salsa I ever had. The food was good and they gave alot. Service was good since it wan't very busy. The place is new and clean. Lots of parking too. They had a nice little bar up front. Coco's is our go to. Almost weekly we go for happy hour. Their prices are great and the wait staff is nice. Josie is the best! So friendly and remembers the little things that are regular requests. I love the fish tacos with black beans and rice. Finish with coconut fried ice cream, churros w/ice cream or flan all are so so good! They have out door seating and air conditioned indoor dining. Really nice looking clean restaurant. Excellent margaritas! I had the catch of the day tacos, they were good but a little bland, the addition of some salsa really helped. They also had some nice vegetarian options. My husband really liked the veggie burrito but the plating left a bit to be desired, it would have been nice to have a little something else on the plate. read more
