Main dining room with low boys, booth seating, and high boy seating, and bar area to the far right.

Super kind and welcoming staff -- very sweet to my kids and accommodating for overly tired toddlers. Quick service and food is delicious. Also clean bathrooms!! Wish they were in Waimea!

We were starving after making a day trip to Hilo to visit the hot springs in Pohoiki. After a long day of driving, I was craving comfort food. Being from LA, I saw this place and immediately wanted to see if it was good Mexican food. My boyfriend got the carnitas plate and I got the carne asada tacos. Service was great and so fast! We shared a chicken tortilla soup as an appetizer and churros for dessert. The food was so delicioso! The meats were tender, juicy, and authentic in flavor. Portions were so big! I do wish the tacos were served more traditionally (cilantro and onions not coleslaw). The chicken tortilla soup had some spice to it but it reminded me of the yummy sopita de pollo back home. We also enjoyed a mojito and margarita with our chips and salsa. But those drinks were soooo strong! Good thing we had plenty of food to not drink on an empty stomach. The churros were just perfect--crispy, cinnamon, sweet! Best Mexican food on island hands down! Definitely coming back for the good vibes and yummy food.

What a little gem of a Mexican restaurant in Pahoa! It's in an unassuming spot in a strip mall but I was wildly impressed once we got in. The artwork is so clean and vibrant. You can tell a lot of effort was put in the space. The Moscow mule and margaritas were so tasty and well-balanced. The flautas were GREAT; I could have eaten three more plates of those. Chicken enchiladas were sooo good, the cheese sauce on top was a great twist from the enchilada sauce I'm used to. Everything was full of flavor and brought me so much satisfaction. I would definitely go back if I'm ever in the area again! My only wish is that there were more decorations to make it feel even cozier - maybe plants or something!

Hilo Location, Excellent Mexican food From fresh homemade salsa and chips to the cocktails, this is one of the better places in all of Hawaii for Mexican food. Recommend family style Big Puna Plate, Santa Fe BBQ chicken salad, and Carnitas Burrito. It will serve 3-4 people. Don't forget the cocktails. Enjoy

Excellent lunch special and happy hour! This is a hidden gem in Hilo. Whenever I'm in the area visiting family I always mark a point to visit Coco Cantina as they have fantastic cocktails, food and HAPPY HOUR!

Restaurant has lovely AC to cool you off from the heat outside. The server was attentive & friendly. She did a great job. The food is just OK, does not have a lot of flavor.

Delicious fish and shrimp tacos and a super cute vibe! Our kids loved the keiki menu: kids' burritos and generous portions of rice and beans for $7. We loved the cocktail menu: ranging from $10-12, there's a great assortment of mojitos, margaritas, and mai tais. Perfect accompaniment to the tacos: you can choose corn or flour tortillas (we split fish and shrimp, which were delicious). There's a chill patio, or you can sit inside. Would love to visit again.

Coco Cantina in Hilo is an absolute gem! From the moment you step inside, you're welcomed with a warm, tropical vibe that's both relaxed and vibrant. The food is phenomenal--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. I was especially impressed with the diverse menu that offers something for everyone. The cocktails are a must-try, expertly crafted with fresh ingredients that perfectly complement the island setting. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure every guest feels right at home. Whether you're a local or just visiting, Coco Cantina is a must-visit spot in Hilo. We will definitely be back!

My wife and I stopped by for pre-dinner drinks and we absolutely loved the drinks that we were able to try out. I started out with a cocktail called the "Spam Dram", a crispy Spam fat-washed barrel-proof bourbon, combined with seared Spam and nori syrup and topped off with a spam musubi garnish. As one might guess, this drink was presented in a spam musubi tin, and atop the bed of crushed ice was an *entire* spam musubi. The drink was a perfect representation of spam musubi in a glass -- sweet, savory, and full of umami. Props to whichever bartender put together this creative drink. The next drink I ordered was the "Smoky Bear", another bourbon based cocktail. This one had bird's eye chili essence in it, and was much closer than your traditional Old Fashioned, except it had an incredible amount of smokiness and a punch of heat to it as well. If you enjoy stiff drinks with complexity, look no further than this cocktail. While we were seated at the bar, we overheard somebody close to us mentioning a password special that had been posted on the Instagram page of The Hidden Nene. We checked their latest story posted two hours earlier and the password special for the day was a "fizz me baby one more time", a strawberry and yuzu gin fizz. My wife ordered this cocktail as her second drink and loved how refreshing the drink tasted. Overall, if you consider yourself a cocktail connoisseur, you owe it to yourself to check out The Hidden Nene if you're in Hilo.

There was also live music with a lady playing guitar solo and singing! Service was amazing! We never had to wait long to order/get the bill. We were most impressed by the fact that the waitress made sure to split our Hilo local plate into two plates to make it much easier to share! We almost thought we had received two orders because of how well-plated they were. - Poke tower (8/10): Solid choice for an appetizer! There were ample portions of poke, and the flavors were nice. Not a super stand out dish though. - Hilo local plate (9.5/10): If you want to taste a wide range of Hawaiian cuisine in one dish, I would highly recommend getting this one! The Kalbi ribs were sooo good! They were juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor. The Kalua pork was pretty good, and both meats paired well with the rice which had an interesting savory haupia sauce drizzled on it. The mango chili slaw and pineapple salsa added a nice tang to balance everything out. - Triple lilikoi pie (5/10): Wayyy too sweet and sugary for our liking, and you can barely taste the lilikoi flavor. We ended up just picking at the graham cracker crust and couldn't finish the rest. It seemed like one of those desserts that are premade unfortunately, and we wish we hadn't ordered this dessert.

We showed up right when they opened at 5:30 p.m. without reservations on a Wednesday evening and was luckily able to get seated at the bar. Between the two of us, we ordered a bunch of items off the "small" section of the menu, including the smokey sashimi, sizzling tetsuyaki poke, smoked tonnato caesar, crispy rice, and their special of the day -- agedashi wontons. Of the items we ordered, the crispy rice and the agedashi wontons were my favorite items. The crispy rice is priced per piece, and you'll certainly want to order at least two per person, because one is simply not enough. The rice block is fried a beautiful golden brown -- similar to a hash brown. The crispy rice pairs perfectly with the ono mixture on top of it. With the agedashi wontons, I initially thought the filling was a bit under-seasoned at first, but when enjoyed with the broth, the wonton comes out tasting perfectly seasoned. The broth had so much umami to it and the wonton had the perfect crunch to it I always love a good Caesar salad and the one here is spectacular. With anchovy croutons, shaved cured egg yolk, and smoked ahi dressing, you're getting some creative, premium ingredients in this salad and everything works so well together. Even if you're not a salad person, I would definitely recommend giving this dish a try. On top of delicious food, the service at Moon & Turtle was spectacular. Food was promptly brought out after we placed our order, pacing didn't ever feel rushed, our water cups were never empty, and our server checked on us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed without being overbearing. I would definitely stop by Moon & Turtle again if I'm in Hilo.

Service is excellent-- the waitress checked on us constantly to make sure everything was good and clean up finished dishes. Food is family style-- you choose between small plates and large plates. Between the two of us who are smaller eaters, we got 2 small plates, 1 crispy rice which is under small plates but is basically 2 bites, and one large plate, and then a dessert, and we were decently full. Everything is VERY GOOD. The mushroom risotto is so rich and creamy, it has a deep funky cheese flavor and super umami with the mushrooms. The garlic butter belly had a great crispy skin and the sauce was packed with flavor. The crispy rice was a fun bite, the crispiness is perfect and the fishy topping has a nice spicy kick. The radiatori was very rich and very filling and creamy. The pot de creme was also excellent, very rich and creamy as well. Everything is a bit pricey, but definitely worth it for the fancier experience, exceptional flavors, incredible quality, and very good service.
