I've been wanting to check out Coda Bakery for some time now, and life has always gotten in the way. Finally, I have checked them out and I regret the years I've wasted not trying them sooner. Service was polite and knowledgable. If you don't have a drive ahead of you, there are several tables that you can sit at to consume your delicious meal. Atmosphere is not too loud and very clean. The danger of this option is seeing the many scrumptious baked goods that you may end up getting *for later* in the day. I ordered takeout and didn't eat it until 25 minutes later (driving, sigh). Everything survived without loss of texture or flavor. I had a set of spring rolls and a noodle bowl. Portion size was quite large, I think you can probably get away with a set of spring rolls for a quick lunch. The spring rolls (2 large in each order) were amazing and the peanut sauce was perfection (see more on this below). The noodle bowl was pretty exceptional too, and packed to visually appeal to even the pickiest eater. Spiciness: Normally I'm not a big fan of heat, as I feel many people overdo it and then seem to think that just because their taste buds are burned off, anyone else is crazy to not like heat. So... heat can be an issue... That said... OMG, the fish sauce and the peanut sauce both have heat in it... I'm still feeling the burn in my mouth 20 min later, BUT!!! they accomplished the unattainable spice perfection, where you enjoy the burn without suffering, and they've triggered enough endorphins that I can't wait to go back for more. I can't believe I've never reviewed this place!! I've been coming here for quite a while...and wow, it's one of my all time favs in Albuquerque hands down! The bread alone is worth the trip...literally. I've been guilty of coming here just for the baguette...no lie. It's the best Baguette I've had in town I swear... So, in case you haven't heard about the Vietnamese Bahn Mi sandwiches here at this joint...these bad boys are just stupid silly amazing. There's many good ones in town, but in my humble opinion, these are the best. Again, it starts with their homemade bread...it's a soft chew that first bite...it's literally a home-wrecker. They also crush their French-based pastries too...the meatball croissants are pure crack cocaine and this...this, thing...they call their "Chicken and green chili Sauce" a-ma-thingie...lol...it'll bring a tear to your eye...it's that good. Yes their banh mi is pretty good, however it's a little dry because they don't put any butter/mayo on it (it's a game changer). Pretty generous with the ingredients and good bread. Their pate chaud is super flaky, light, and they don't skimp on the filling. Their chile chicken filling was ok, not much kick to it but loads of it. Will be coming back to try some other things. Consistently good food. This place is one of the city's favorite spots for their Vietnamese style sandwiches. The menu is extensive. There are also pastries on occasion that sell out by 2:00 pm. Expect a short wait during their peak times, 11:30am-1:00 pm. I've eaten in and carried out from here for years. It remains one of my favorite joints for a quick tasty bite. Also known as Coda Bakery (as per their establishment sign). My go-to when I am craving spring rolls and sesame balls. Yes, I know, Vietnamese sandwich place and a lunch place of Air Force guys (I see them a lot here). But to me, Coda Bakery has the perfect fresh spring rolls and peanut sauce. I always get the shrimp and pork. Don't get me wrong, they do have great sandwiches at a very affordable price. I am not a fan of all of it so I only stick with beef lemongrass when I do get a sandwich. (Note: If you are not a fan of fish sauce, do ask them if the sandwich contains fish sauce. Some do). Recently added to that cravings are their sesame balls and fried tofu. The sesame balls are a hit or miss. Sometimes they are so good and freshly made. Sometimes they are freshly made but burnt. lol. Not kidding. They have different varieties of fried tofu. The ones I tried are the plain, with garlic/chives, and with chili/lemongrass. They are not as fried and thinly sliced as I want them to be so I always have them to-go. I slice them in half, refry, and pair them with Jasmine rice. I have eaten them as is as well and they are as good. There is a sauce that comes with it and it is as addicting (Sauce contains fish sauce. I have learned that it is an acquired taste so not everyone might like it). The price of their tofu is as cheap as it would buying them uncooked in the Asian grocery market and those only comes plain. So on your next stop to Coda, give their sesame balls and tofu a chance. read more
