We were on this side of town running errands and was looking for Vietnamese food. Nice clean little spot, there wasnt alot of decor, but they did have a TV playing in the corner. We ordered spring rolls, crepes, and spicy lemon grass soup. Nothing was bad, but I felt like it wasnt as flavorful to what I'm use to. The Bun Bo Hue was not spicy at all and it more reminded me of pho. The Banh Xeo was not it for me, it could be because my girlfriend didnt have problems with it, it was only shrimp and it makes a big difference in flavor. The fish sauce didnt have any chilies and that makes a big difference for me. Spring rolls were very average and the sauce didnt help. Overall good service and average Vietnamese food. I wasnt wowed and it wasnt terrible. Keep in mind I grew up in the Bay Area, so my expectations are high. read more

I got the cooked beef pho and it had a flavorful, rich soup base absolutely delicious and the portion size is fantastic for the price! The only surprise was that it wasn't more crowded, because it truly deserves a full house. I'll definitely be stopping by again whenever I'm in this part of town! read more

Wow! Let me start by saying that I was not sure what to expect since it looked not too busy and in a not too busy shopping center... that being the case, parking was easy to find. When we walked in we were greeted immediately and told to sit any place of our choosing. All spots were well lit and temp was just right all around. Bathroom was clean, which is always a plus! Finally the highlight... the food! We ordered shrimp spring rolls and a chicken bahn mi as appetizers... both were delicious. The spring rolls came with 2 HUGE rolls! The only thing I was sad about is that they did not give peanut sauce with the rolls which is my preference, but the dipping sauce offered was still tasty! Huong Thao - Our Go-To on Lazy, Cold Days Huong Thao is our regular Vietnamese spot, and it's perfect for a cozy, lazy day. They don't use MSG in their food and are excellent at accommodating dietary restrictions. I love the NM Spring Rolls, but my absolute favorite is the mung bean noodles. This place is tucked away in a small shopping center and can be easy to miss. With the numerous Vietnamese options in the city, it's a bit difficult to stand out, but Huong Thao's food is very good. The pho was hot and had good flavor. The stir fry shrimp was missing a little spice or something to help differentiate it from just sautéed shrimp and vegetables. The person who served us was very kind and attentive to our needs. I'm not sure that I would place this in the upper echelon of Vietnamese food in town, but we would definitely come back and try some of their other dishes. read more

This restaurant is a diamond in the rough. Located in a tiny strip mall... the food is Awesome..and we visit there at least 2 x a week. The papaya salad is my favorite. I loved this place! We've tried plenty of Vietnamese restaurants around Albuquerque. Some get more attention or seem busier, but that doesn't make them better. Huong Thao is the real deal. The pho was rich, flavorful, and comforting, just like it should be. We were happy to see a gluten free menu, and my wife ordered the mung bean crepe, one of their gluten free items. It was cooked perfectly. Honestly, I almost hate to leave such a good review because I don't want them to get too busy when I want to go. Mmmk this place is pretty good and has decent prices. The value is good here. I'm a big tea drinker, it's nice to have a place that has good tasting iced tea, not bitter or old but fresh tasting refreshing tea, this place has it. The spicy level is good, it doesn't hit you fast but will make you break a small sweat by the end of your plate. They have pork stuffed boneless chicken wings as an appetizer that are very unique and worth a try. The restaurant host was nice and polite and I was glad I was able to satisfy my craving for Banh Xeo (Vietnamese crepe) here...although the crepe seemed a bit too thick and doughy and the fillings were of onions rather than white asian turnips than what I was used to. The claypot was ok. It tasted not much different from normal fried rice with grilled meats...so maybe next time..I would opt for other vermicelli dish instead. Overall though...good taste..and not expensive at all. My first venture here did its job of cutting down my craving for Banh Xeo tremendously. I would love to stop by again..possibly for Banh Xeo..and other rice noodle dishes next time! read more

I was in the mood for Vietnamese so I picked the place. All-vegetarian order to be described...we got the spring rolls with tofu, spicy lemongrass bun, crispy egg noodles with veggies and tofu, and the Budda clay pot. I didn't sample the Budda clay pot, but the person who ordered it loved it. The spring rolls were fresh and made to order with yummy tofu and good herbs, and eased my hunger pangs before digging in more. If you order to-go, they package the crispy noodles separate from the topping so they don't get soggy - a very nice touch! This dish was very good and savory, not really spicy at all, with large pieces of broccoli, thinly slived carrot, cabbage, etc. I love the crunch but enjoyed the spicy lemongrass bun with tofu more. Seems like most people go to Vietnamese for the pho, but I love bun, especially in the summer. This one comes with a decent veggie selection and a really excellent sauce. It's got some spice to it! All the tofu is a yummy fried then sliced version with lots of flavor and a great texture. The food was ready when I arrived and packaged well. I appreciate that they don't use styrofoam! Also, the portions are enormous and the prices are surprisingly low. Staff was very friendly. We will definitely order from here again! read more

Still, it got stuck in my head, and I ended up coming in today with my girlfriend for lunch. Many booths to choose from; we sat at one by the kitchen entrance so as to be closer to the action. Bypassing the apps entirely, we decided to split two entrees, settling on the #17 rice noodles with grilled chicken and egg rolls (pork is also an option), and the #36 Buddha clay pot (vegetarian, and might be vegan; worth inquiring). These dishes were inspired by the recommendations of other Yelpers, and I must say, y'all the the nail square on the head. The #17 is a big plate of food: noodles, a generous serving of delicious chicken, chopped egg rolls (contains meat), lettuce, cilantro. Meanwhile, the #36 wins the veggie game: mushrooms, carrots, bell peppers, snow peas, cabbage, ginger, baby corn, best when eaten with rice. The food exceeded my expectations and left me feeling satisfied. On top of that, the prices are fair: each dish we ordered was only ~$9. Downside, we had a medium-long wait for our food, and the service was lackluster overall. Still, it was an enjoyable dining experience, one I wish to enjoy again. read more

When I was in high school my family ate here at least 2 to 3 times a month. Every time I come back to visit I never leave without eating here first! The food is consistently fresh and delicious. Anytime I go out for Vietnamese food, I always compare it to Huong Thao (and theirs is still the best). Friendly service and family owned. Can't recommend enough! Delicious flavorful food for a good value. Try the 27 - a crispy egg noodle nest with stir fried veggies and protein of your choice in a yummy gravy. I also really like the 31 - your choice of 2 grilled meats with jasmine rice and sauce on the side. Try the pork chop and grilled pork - yum. Four stars with reservations, really more like a 3.5, but it's based on one to-go order, so what do I know? I guess I know how I like my phó, and I can't say it was terribly interesting. There's a lot of good phó in the 505, and I'd suggest Huong Thao go ahead and take some risks, from a spice profile angle, anyway, I didn't pick up any of the usual broth suspects: star anise, cardamom, clove. We ordered the chicken varietal -- trying to avoid too much beef these days -- and the chicken was pretty gristled, dry and tough. Oh, and they offer a small or large portion, go with the small, we still have broth in the fridge. Why I'm confident I should go back: begins with the spring rolls. Excellent, hefty and clearly loaded with very fresh ingredients. And the menu offers an enticing list of intriguing options I just gotta explore: hot pot, steamed bass, sour soup and a mung bean crepe that sounds pretty smart. To summarize, we probably didn't choose wisely, you can likely trust the stellar rating, and they need a better beer selection. read more

I found this place by accident. The restaurant decor is nicely done, the paintings are tasteful. There is a good amount of foot traffic, which means they are doing something right. The waitress has a thick Hue accent so I knew the Bun Bo Hue would be good! The waitress is friendly but not overly eager, which is a plus because I like to eat in peace. The broth is super sweet, the noodles is soft. They have pig feet in the broth and is right on point. Very crunchy but nicely done. I ordered a stirred fried combination noodles for to go and it tasted fresh the day after. They were generous with their ingredients. Everything on the menu is reasonably priced. I'd make this place a regular go to restaurant and highly recommend if you're looking for a good bowl of bun bo hue. The best Vietnamese spicy soup for the cold weather. read more
