My first visit to Viet Pho this weekend and it's it was the best Pho I've had since moving back to Albuquerque 3 years ago. This place is a casual, family friendly Vietnamese restaurant with fast and friendly service. I had the rare steak and brisket, while my wife had the trio which included meatballs. I appreciate that the hoisin sauce and chile was already out on the table when you sit down because I like my pho spicy and full of flavor. This is the place for Pho unless you can convince me otherwise. The place is extra clean down to their condiments. I had few minor issues and I'm sure it was just a busy lunch hour. I request hot tea and never came till after my pho as I informed the waiter I rather take a Dr. Pepper. Waiter would not get me a soda she said she already made the tea and again why is my tea not on my table very odd and came off rude. New Mexican Vietnamese is a thing just like New Mexican Mexican is a thing. Just as Mexican food is different in New Mexico, Vietnamese food is different in New Mexico. It is not because they use green chiles. As far as I could tell, the only green chiles were at Whole Foods, two blocks away. What makes New Mexican Vietnamese different is different recipes and different pork products. The conspicuous ingredient in New Mexican Vietnamese that I do not see in Texas is steamed pork cake. This shows up all over the menu. It is pork burger with enough binder to hold its form cohesively as a cake, spiced with something light and then steamed. It often appears with beef meatballs, pork chop, or shredded pork. You either get a beef vs pork contrast, a steamed vs grilled contrast, or in a multi-ingredient dish, both. The steamed pork cake is extremely good. Another big New Mexican ingredient is broken rice. This is another dish that shows up rarely in Texas Vietnamese menus but is common in New Mexican places. Broken rice is just what it sounds like. It is not all that different from rice rice. I would not travel 700 miles over a state line to get broken rice. For steamed pork cake, I might think about it. * * * On the regionalism issue - the Vietnamese food I get in Texas is similar to the Vietnamese I get in California, on the East Coast and the Midwest. New Mexican Mexican came from the distinctive ingredients that were available in the New Mexico setting. I suspect - but do not know for sure - that New Mexican Vietnamese comes from the migrants all coming from a similar and distinctive part of Vietnam. So what we might be getting might be the cooking that they used to do in the region they came from. This is purely hypothetical. I have not fact checked any of this. The alternative explanation is that there were some innovative Vietnamese cooks in New Mexico - and all this stuff was invented here. * * * Is Viet Pho's food any good? Well I did give them five stars. I had a broken rice "lots and lots of stuff we have in the house" special. It was completely first rate. The steamed pork cake and the fried egg were particularly memorable. There was a ton of other nifty stuff on that plate. * * * I did zero Mexican restaurants on my visit to New Mexico ... And only got New Mexico chiles because I forced the issue at a different non-Mexican restaurant. I ate like a king. You can go for the New Mexico green chile classics if you are so inclined - and you will do well. But Albuquerque offers a vast array of other gastronomic offerings. For what its worth, my sons first experience as a child with sushi was in a first rate Albuquerque Japanese restaurant. It was a peak experience for him. He has been a Japanophile ever since. Stretch your range when you come to New Mexico. You will be glad you did. read more

Shrimp spicy lemongrass noodle bowl was mouth watering. Added chili oil and yet wasn't too spicy, which my stomach was thankful for later. My friend got the tofu clay pot which was yummy too. Everything I had was amazing! I had the Thai tea, spring rolls, and combination rice noodle bowl. The wait staff was kind. The small restaurant had plenty of seating and was clean. The tea was perfectly flavored. I had the beef spring rolls which were good but I think next time I would get shrimp or pork. The combination noodle bowl was amazing! While I only got one shrimp in my bowl everything else was perfect. The pork stood out with a delicious smoky flavor. The fish sauce was light and not overpowering. I've tried a lot of pho in Des Moines and Viet's Pho in stone bowl is up there as arguably my favorite. IT STAYS HOT FOR SO LONG. You will not be able to eat it fast so set aside some time. Their broth and noodles outclass a lot of other pho places I've been to. The service is equally as great and it feels family oriented. Love this local family business! I placed a first-time order on the phone, and they did not require payment or a phone number, just my name. The order pickup time was very speedy, and when I arrived, the staff was incredibly welcoming. I had Pho with chicken, which was very good and a very large portion. As other reviews have mentioned, the broth had a bit of a sweet taste compared to others I have had across the country, but it made the dish unique. Was in town visiting and DIL was craving some pho. Popped into the stand alone restaurant that was fairly busy for a Friday night. The servers are nice food came out quickly (except for the Vietnamese sandwich we later ordered but I think they quickly forgot about it!). The ambiance had a nice family feel to it. We ordered the number 9 and 10 and an order of egg rolls. There was a decent amount of meat with the pho but the reason for the 3 stars is because the broth was a bit too sweet. I tried off setting it with the lime which helped a little bit the broth didn't have a depth of flavor to it. The noodles and meat were decent but the broth didn't cut it. Also, $5 for two egg rolls is a bit pricey. The egg rolls were tasty. They were tightly packed and the flavors subtle. A nice crunch to them but it wasn't worth the price point. Also ordered a Vietnamese sandwich to bring back. The sandwich was small and the even though it was grilled pork it tasted more like cha siu. It had a good crunch but it needed just a tad more radish, carrot, and cilantro. Overall, everything was pretty good for Albuquerque. Comparing it to the San Francisco Bay Area it was all right but it's tough to find a good spot in Albuquerque to meet your Asian food cravings. I came straight here from the airport, en route to my hotel, to place a to go order. Private and plenty of parking. Restaurant is large with many booths and tables. I was greeted immediately and the staff is really friendly. I ordered the nem nuong (grilled Pork) spring rolls, papaya salad with chicken and braised pork in a clay pot (called Thit Kho). They got my order wrong and packed the pork with soggy cabbage. Major disappointment. The papaya salad with chicken was average. I was told that their pork in clay pot was Thit Kho which is a lie! Thit Kho is braised pork belly with eggs. This dish was maybe pork, strips, not tender. No eggs. It was not good. I'm really disappointed in my dinner tonight. read more

We chose Viet's Pho and even though we got there shortly before closing, we were served quickly and were delighted with our order! (This was one portion of rare beef (don't worry y'all the broth is so hot the meat actually cooks inside of it and the fun part about ordering this is you get to see the color change as it cooks up!) so both of us shared and it was a perfect amount! I loved the green bamboo wallpaper and the warm atmosphere of the dining room. The bathroom was very clean too! It is always hard to find a place that can make pho the right way. I found this place on Yelp while I was away on business and thought I would give it a try. First, it is a family business. Bonus points for small establishments that have made it through the pandemic. Family businesses take a lot of pride in their work. This is evident when you walk into this place. There were a lot of people here for a Thursday night. It was obvious that several were regulars the way they interacted with staff. The spring rolls were good but it was the peanut sauce that really made them spectacular. There was a lot of different dishes to choosen on the menu. I had the chicken pho. It was loaded with meat; they didn't skimp on this. More than I am used to with most places in LA. That was a pleasant surprise. At the end of the meal, the check was surprisingly reasonable. I don't know why I didn't realize this sooner, but I hadn't had Vietnamese food for quite the longest time and possibly a few years specifically at Viet Pho's until tonight! I was running errands all day until...on the way to the gym, I realized I hadn't eaten all day and that going to the gym with a growing stomach would be bad for me. So, out of whim, I made an executive decision to turn to Viet's Pho and chose to eat instead of gymming. Best decision ever..and I felt the food at Viet's Pho really hit the spot for me! I had a Banh Xeo (with pork and shrimp---the usual thing how people in Vietnam usually eat) and...it was wonderful. I wouldn't say it was 100% the same as what places in Vietnam have (for example, the tumeric taste wasn't as strong and the veggie garnishes weren't all complete, the way the meats were sliced in a banh xeo was different). But, hey, we are in ABQ, not Vietnam...so I expected some minor adaptations here! That said, the food was still flavorful..and I wolfed down the Banh Xeo in one go even though the serving portion was actually quite generous! Definitely hit the spot for me! The service was also very nice. The staff were attentive from taking orders, checking in with you on what you may need..and anticipating all your needs. Best of all...I still think it's one of the best values out there (definitely reasonable prices). I think with the Banh Xeo and refillable soda, it came to just over $16 with taxes included (I ended up paying slightly over $20 for a wholesome, healthy and very satisfying meal!). On the way to the gym and back home, I kept asking myself..why hadn't I stopped by Viet's Pho more frequently?!?!? .and I think this thought will keep bugging and will cause me to make multiple impulsive decisions to stop by this place again and again in the future because of such a great experience + food there! read more

This is my go to in the Uptown area. Their pho is always reliably delicious. The broth is rich with a tiny bit of sweetness from the basil, which easily marries into the spicy jalapenos and spicy sauce. This locally-owned restaurant and its staff make you feel at home. I saw the reviews on Yelp and decided to go. This place used to be a Chinese restaurant as I'd recalled. The interiors have been redone so it seems bigger and brighter than before. We got there at 6 pm and it was almost half full but ppl kept arriving so they were busy. I even saw other VN ppl eating so that's a good sign. We started w the crispy Egg Rolls which I always love but I found these to be very disappointing. Not sure what was in them??? There were only 2 w 1 lettuce leaf and dipping sauce. Not getting these here again. I wanted pho so I ordered the Rare beef and Meatball w noodle combo. It was very good except I found the meatball to have a rubbery texture and sure what it was made of. I'll avoid their meatballs from now on. My partner ordered the Combo meat and noodle dish which he really enjoyed. It was big enough for two so he took half home. The service was good, efficient and fast. Our booth table was bolted to the wall and very tilted - weird! But the server said that nothing spills or slides off so we didn't move to a level table. After frequenting Vietnam taste up the road for quite some time, I decided to give this place a try. Some back info from a friend of mine is that viet pho is an offshoot of some of the the family members that used to work/own viet taste. If you had been to viet taste back in the day, you will recognize many of the staff that now work here at Viet's Pho. The food is delish, but the part that has kept me frequenting this place is that they give really generous servings at a similar price point. As for the restaurant itself, it has a very calm atmosphere with quick and attentive waitstaff. The dining room is mid sized but can get a bit packed during the busy meal hours. I realize it has been five years since I reviewed Viet's Pho. I have continued to frequent the restaurant a few times a month as it is easily one of my favorite places. The food remains excellent, the service is great, and the prices remain fair in today's market. There really isn't a "miss" on the menu. The pho is great, with a solid broth base and all the toppings you need. The noodle bowls are simply fantastic, and while they do a great job with all the protein, their pork is simply remarkable. I am normally very skeptical about eating pho at restaurants. Normally they don't taste authentic and they usually don't give much meat/ noodles. This spot has changed my mind completely! The employees are so friendly and very attentive. They would continue to come to our table to make sure we are okay. The aesthetics here are pretty to look at, it's very clean and tidy! I ordered pho with chicken, and let me tell you that I ALWAYS finish the meat, even if I'm full, but I was not able to this time! They are so generous with their meats (normally pho chicken would be almost shredded chicken, but this place gave a generous heap of fat pieces of chicken). They are also very generous with their noodles! Greasy and overly sweet. I'm going to preface this review by stating how excited I was to try this place after driving by and seeing the parking lot full every time for weeks. Which is why it was so heartbreaking that every menu item (minus the spring rolls) ordered was greasy!!! The wonton soup was so greasy. And then my first wonton, once I bit into it was the sweetest flavor ever. I guess I'm more used to the savory flavor so it wasn't for me, but if you like sweet wontons, this is your place. The spring rolls (shrimp) was by far my favorite of everything ordered. Beef wrapped in grape leaves was...flavorless. My Pho was also greasy oily. And the noodles tasted sweet again! I was shocked. And then I drenched it in the Asian chili. The fried rice, was again- greasy. I get that the location is great, but personally- I'm will to drive an extra 15-20 minutes to go to a non-greasy, more traditional tasting place. The server was friendly. Quantity for price was good. Booths are hard to sit in as they move, so if someone is behind you, every time you or they move- it's a nonstop battle of sorts for comfort. Went in for take-out just to grab some Vietnamese sandwiches... was pleasantly surprised. The sandwiches had amazing flavor - fresh herbs and bread. This is my to go Vietnamese restaurant in town. It's comfort food for me. I love this restaurant because it's very spacious inside and with plenty of booths for little ones and family. It's clean both indoor and outdoor but only have indoor dining. The staff is the same and all all very respectful and welcoming. You could tell they work as a family. The food is high quality Vietnamese entrees and well seasoned and cooked to perfection. They have various plates from pork products, beef and chicken products and pho soup. Prices are affordable and portions are large. They have coke products and shakes for drinks. My favorite drink is the coconut water. My favorite dish is number 68 with jasmine rice and chicken with shrimp. It's a must try while in town. read more

Overall: Viet's Pho suffers from the same problem as other pho places that I have tried in Albuquerque--the food is incredibly sweet. The service is good and the restaurant is nice though. Food: 2 Special Egg Noodle Soup (Mi Dac Biet): This comes with choice of egg noodle or rice noodle, BBQ pork, shrimp, squid, fish balls, and imitation crab. The egg noodles were well cooked, and there was a decent amount of meat. However, the BBQ pork was dry, and the broth was so sweet that it tasted like syrup. Stir Fried Rice Noodle with Chicken (Hu Tieu Xao Ga): Although the sauce in this stir fry was sweet, I felt like it went well with the dish. There was a VERY generous amount of chicken. I appreciate that the chicken was cut into smaller pieces, and I liked the vegetables included (zucchini, carrots). However, it was super oily. Service: 5 The servers were all very nice and willing to accommodate our requested changes to the dish. Ambiance: 5 Viet Pho is located in a small plaza with its own parking lot, so it has plenty of parking. The restaurant itself has a variety of booths and normal tables.
