We stopped by for lunch shortly after arriving for our OCMD beach weekend and were thoroughly impressed by the caliber of food LA is dishing out. What started as a liquor store with a bar has evolved into a seriously good restaurant that stands out from the usual beach fare. Our table of four shared a bunch of small plates and a few larger dishes. We tried the steamed mussels, buffalo wings, tuna crisps, baked oysters, short rib pot pie, and Kung Pao calamari. The rich short rib pot pie was excellent, and we loved the baked oysters with aged cheddar, honey chipotle, and fresh chimichurri. Our favorite was the Kung Pao calamari, which had a great sweet Asian heat that made it a fun spin on the classic. We also ordered a round of cocktails, with the bourbon and whiskey based drinks being the favorites. The Wild Fashioned was especially good. Another great perk is that dining guests receive 10 percent off purchases from the attached liquor store. We happily took advantage and stocked up on Willett bourbon and Clase Azul tequila for the rest of the beach weekend. Overall, Liquid Assets is a great place to come for a drink or three with some elevated bites, especially when you are ready for a break from typical beach food. We will definitely be back.

The Caesar was excellent: fresh, whole romaine hearts tossed in a nice tangy dressing, topped with flavorful brown bread croutons and a solid chunk of quality cheese. The cream of tomato soup was equally good, carrying over those same rich croutons and cheese to tie the meal together seamlessly. Service was top-notch as well--the bartender was friendly and welcoming, and the kitchen churned out the food impressively fast. Great spot all around; I will definitely be back.

I ordered my sub The Deli Man Way, and it was a hefty baby. I actually turned it into several beach sandwiches over the next few days. The deli meat was solid overall, but the prosciutto wasn't trimmed well. It had a tough fat band that I had to pull out of my mouth, which definitely threw me off. I don't eat prosciutto often, so I'm not sure how common that is, but it wasn't my favorite part. The Italian Hoagie was good, though next summer I'll try something different. With a score of 22 out of 25, I give this spot a B+.

Good coffee with a drive-thru! The coffee drinks (with syrup) are a bit sweet but still good. The muffins are great - try the french vanilla. Quiche also quite good and heats up well the next day. The only issue I have is that service for food - even a bagel getting toasted - is slow. The food person seems to work at a snails pace while the coffee person is making 2-3 drinks at a time. Nice interior with couches and tables and wifi. Very comfortable place for respite mid-morning or after work. Try their location in Berlin in the building by the hospital. Love the new Italian Gelato option. Their current selection is good: chocolate, coffee, vanilla, sea salt caramel, mint chip, coconut, & 2 sorbets (lemon & orange). They offer tasting samples without pressure to buy. They say they will rotate flavors. Finally a place that serves affogato. I had my shot of espresso over vanilla gelato. Heavenly Bene! A well know local by the name of Lisa Anderson always recommend this shop to tourist. He checked on us no less than 4 times, after we got our food. I figured breakfast is a little too easy to test a restaurant on. Anyone can scramble and egg, or make pancakes. I decided to test them against my own Ruben recipe (which I maintain is the best there ever will be). To my surprise, though it wasn't quite as good as my own, it's the closest I have had from any restaurant. Kudos to the chef on that.
