We paid an unplanned visit to the Sea Star Diner on a recent visit to OC. Our original plans entailed a restaurant across the street that wasn't open. I'm so glad Sea Star was right across the street and open off season. Everything looks fresh as if it was only recently opened. Bright colors on the outside and inside. Really clean, really pleasant atmosphere. We ordered carry out but I was able to wait inside. The staff was extremely pleasant and friendly. Side note: They really know what they're doing as an operation. When I placed the order I was told it would be 7 minutes which I thought was oddly specific, but it was in fact out to us exactly 7 minutes later. Great breakfast fare. My sandwich and hash browns were delicious. We don't live in OC but plan to visit it often and this place will be a regular stop for us. read more

When another restaurant did not open on time, we found this spot close to where we were staying. The bagel was just okay, I would choose a different bread next time, but the sandwich itself was good. The crispy parts of the hash browns were delicious just wish more of the order was crispy. Service was great when we ordered in person. read more

This little diner caught me off guard, from the outside you'd think it's a little run down diner that's been around for years but soon as I walked in you could tell it was recently renovated. The place was bright and plenty of sunlight was coming through the windows. Upon entering I was quickly seated and the waiter appeared promptly ready with menu in hand ready to take my drink order. The food was delivered hot with little wait time. The omelette was good but bland, the same could be said about the hash browns as well. The toast was pre buttered and was good as well. Stopped here from breakfast on a Wednesday morning. Small place who's interior decor doesn't match the outside decoration at all - They were friendly enough - got a pancake combo which comes with eggs and bacon along with the pancakes. It was a good breakfast. The service was prompt. And what you'd hope for. Not overly friendly but did the job well. The restaurant was nestled under a small hotel. The interior was quaint and cozy with small tables and 4 chairs per table. Very minimalist feel. The food came out fast. I ordered the ribeye and eggs. It came with white toast and hash browns and I added a side of bacon. The bacon was excellent! The hash browns were also excellent. The steak was okay. It was a little bland and had quite a bit of fat. The eggs were scrambled but were a little bit undercooked. The toast was cold. Overall okay. I would eat there again but wasn't stellar. read more

My Waiter was more involved in taking care of the register and the take out orders, instead of seeing to all his customers and refilling my coffee. 4 % surcharge on credit cards but their machine was not working so I had to go next door to cash machine. THE WORST BREAKFAST IVE EVER ORDERED. We ordered their food on DoorDash and when I say there wasn't a drop of seasoning on this food I mean not one bit of it. Everything was so bland. The steak was suppose to be medium but it was very well done and dry. Eggs didn't have any salt or pepper on it and the hash browns were greasy. I didn't even want to finish eating, so disappointing. After doing some quick breakfast spot research on a rainy Saturday morning, I somewhat reluctantly led my crew to Sea Star for a mid morning meal. Not so many reviews and all glowing made me a little curious. I have to say, the existing reviews were spot on. We had no wait and the friendly staff were very nice and I might add forgiving since my toddler was quite busy. Everyone loved their breakfasts. My Chesapeake Benedict was delicious, hearty and reasonably priced for the amount of crab on it. My kids loved their perfectly tender waffles and spouse ate up his bacon and eggs. Coffee was tasty and overall cost was excellent. On a side note, the bathrooms were very clean as was the restaurant. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in town. It's nice to find these smaller and more cozy establishments. Great job Sea Star! read more

I found it in Google so go there for more reviews. The place was almost empty which usually isn't a great sign but we were looking for breakfast and that's hard to mess up. I smelled coffee upon arrival so we were in! Plenty of choices and I chose the Mediterranean Omelette. It was awesome. They actually mix the ingredients and then cook it, unlike some places who fold the eggs over the ingredients and serve it like a taco. The kids food was awesome too! What a great diner experience! We came for breakfast and got exactly what we were expecting. Parking is a little difficult but luckily we were able to grab the spot of someone as they pulled out after we made a circle or two around the lot and 74th street. We were seated right away. The building is older but the inside was brightly painted and clean. The carpet was serviceable and the tables and chairs were worn but not in disrepair. I had a standard bacon, eggs, hash browns, and toast breakfast but added a bowl of sausage gravy on the side. The sausage gravy was the stand out of the meal. Really good sausage flavor. My wife had a garden omelet with hash browns and she really enjoyed her meal. Service was good. Drinks were refilled as they were emptied and the check came as we were finished. Oh my gosh!! This was the most amazing spot. Bacon was extra crispy but not oily .... we had the pancake combo and they did NOT disappoint. Delicious pancakes, super fluffy and eggy. The eggs were fresh and delish. Actually GOOD coffee. Although they didn't have espresso, they were able to serve super duper good drip coffee. My wife ordered the Veggie Benedict which she was told they were out of muffins for the dish? Seriously, this is a Saturday morning, and you have zero muffins? She changed up her order to just plain eggs and hash browns and I ordered the Western Omelet. Food came out and it was ok, not great. Small place on the corner of 74th Street & Coastal Highway with plenty of tables inside that can accommodate small and big parties of diners. The food was great and the menu is extensive with something for everyone's palate. They serve breakfast & lunch. We went on Memorial Day and they were closing at 2:00pm however I don't know if they're open later hours on other days. The place is clean and the owner and waitresses are really nice people.
