I have been here a few times to get coffee before I pick up my son from school. Always friendly service and tasty beverages. Today was the first time I got cold brew and I don't know if it's always the same, but this may be the best cup of cold brew I've ever had. Truly, a place that crafts coffee better than anyone else on the North Side, Coffee Joint is exactly the low-profile, strong-execution that you would expect in its neighborhood. Hipster Factor: LOW (As an aside, Real Chicagoans are winning, btw, against the Hipster Problem.) Overall, that "neighborhood factor" permeates into this subtle corner coffee shop because of the friendly yet professional attitude indicative of the area. For the Actual COFFEE, yes, they serve a lot of the Italian & French staples. However, the surpass any competition in the area with their cleaner, brighter shop. The shop also correctly prepares Drip Coffee and Tea by not burning the water before pouring. This usually indicates a staff cognizant of the water's quality and of the fact that frequent calibration of the heat elements of the machines ensures continued quality. For the food, they keep it simple with a smattering of awesome sandwiches that are made-to-order. Veggie/Vegetarian options appear to be available. (But, as always, what a rough existence, right?) For AMBIANCE, the place is original hardwood floor with recycled wood tables and counters at middle height (i.e., not high-tops but not low tables). The chairs appear to be refurbished "shop" chairs that are just as comfortable for tall people as shorter people. (I believe this was a goal--being a taller guy, I like this seating because it includes all heights while making me comfortable.) A charming patio with outdoor furniture and plenty of shade features during the warmer months. For STAFF & SERVICE, there is not a friendlier and more-knowledgeable staff in the City. They know their craft, and they "do basic things well." This is huge for me, in a world where everyone keeps trying to reinvent the wheel. I am a weekly patron and enjoy this place for meetings, work, or just to relax. It's a highly adaptable but balanced environment. read more

I hovered between 3/4 stars but I'll give you a four bc I don't want to hurt your score. Nice spot with a lot of natural light, more upscale options and prices. Kind of what you would imagine the google cafeteria looks like in terms of their fridge. I want to give you three stars bc of this seating that I will call anti-ergonomic. Aka the stools are hella uncomfortable. Sure they look sleek but are y'all making them uncomfy so we won't stay? I get it you're trying to turn tables, but at least have the short tables on the floor have a few comfortable seating options. Even the shorties are weird stools. And the foot bar placement just doesn't make sense with the way the body hangs. Bummer. Some people may not care about this but as a remote worker- and there are tons of us now- this is really important! read more

I stopped here at Coffee Joint for the Yelp event to grab a cup of joe while at work at was able to meet the staff and chat with Anna. I really like the place and atmosphere. They serve Metropolis coffee which is strong like I prefer and tastes great. The sandwiches looked good , but will have to try next time. read more

just moved around the corner and thought it would be great to have a small business local coffee shop to pop into. despite the drink i got tasting good, i definitley didn't get the friendly barista everyone raved about tho which turned me off and left me with a disappointed experience. read more

This is an adorable little cafe that I just discovered today dealing with stupid traffic. Brand new and beautiful. Love the vibe and the decor. The staff was nice and I got a cold brew. I was disappointed to see Metropolis as I'm not a fan of their coffee but that's just my opinion. There's plenty of people who do love it and this is the place to stop in! Excited to see it finally open. I like the ceramic tile walls and reclaimed wood look. I was hungry and saw that they had sandwiches. I ordered the salami and pickle spicy one. The sandwich was good but I expected a lot more for $12. Bag of Chips? Cookie? I don't know. The credit card system wasn't working so I had to manually input all my info. The barista was that busy but was very brief with me and didn't really engage the was you would expect for a newer place looking to create repeat customers. Good coffee. Great location. The shop is clean and the people are nice. I just wish the wifi was better. They have a guest network but it had two bars and only stayed connected for a minute or two before it would disconnect altogether. Other than the wifi, good coffee shop! read more

Love this place! The space is small so if you're coming here to work, you may have trouble finding table space. The coffee is great and the prices are fair. Good pastries as well. Great new coffee spot in Roscoe Village/North Center. Finally a good boutique coffee joint within walking distance instead of Starbucks. this nice little coffee shop in North Center is a good addition to the neighborhood. their coffee is from Metropolis and i like that they use only single origin beans for drip coffee.Barista was very knowledgeable and explained difference between coffee regions, blends and espresso. Whoever is working here today is extremely rude! We were on a walk and the place looked cute. We were already hesitant to go in given the circumstances and a very unfriendly woman was working. She was short with any questions we had and clearly didn't want to answer any questions and had a total attitude. My husband said have a good day on our way out and she said "yeah." Happened upon this coffee joint via Google maps and then Yelp. This is a few blocks closer to me than another coffee shop down the street. The ambience is pretty chill and it's great for working. Plenty of outlets and the bar seating in front of the shop has those bag hooks. They carry Metropolis coffee, which isn't too bad, but isn't mind blowing either. I got one of their cinnamon buns with the free coffee (from checking in), and that is pretty decent. The music in here isn't obnoxiously loud, so that's what contributes to its great work environment. Would give 5/5 if coffee selection was greater.
