BCBC Coffee Lab is close to a 10-minute walk from Northwestern's campus, and 200 feet from the Noyes stop on the CTA purple line. Its neighbors include Tomate Fresh Kitchen (one of the best Mexican food to-go places you'll find in Chicago). When you step inside BCBC, you will be amazing at how big it is -- something you can't see from just the storefront. They can seat over 50 people easily. It is a great study place for finals and doubles as a good hangout place with friends. I got the regular house coffee which was good enough. It got the job done, as I was focused on my work for hours before the caffeine started wearing off. A lot of people recommend the chai and cappuccino, so I'll be trying that out next time! read more

This a cute coffee shop that is serious about their coffee. I've been here a few times and it's a nice spot to get some work done and sip on a nice cup of coffee. For those who are into flavored type drinks, I would recommend the white mocha. This is my favorite place to get a white mocha in the north shore. There are plenty of places to sit but parking around here can be tricky. I'm not aware of a free lot close by, but if you circle enough you're bound to find a street spot. The staff here is always friendly and I like that they are personable. The prices are fair for the area. My only complaint is that I don't think it's a very cozy spot. I'm not a fan of the chairs and think it's missing the comfy aspect. Otherwise, I really like this place for a quick cup. read more

I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that they had moved to a bigger place. Their other place was nice but it was very small, so there was never any room to sit. The new place is very well lit, spacious, clean, and minimal. The decor is very earthy and wooden. There isn't too much decor where it clutters up the room. (which tends to bother me) There are a nice amount of table to sit at with outlets and a printer if you need to print! But there is also an area with red couches for the people that prefer to just lounge and read. If you're coming to study, it's a great place and is always filled with college students. But be aware that it does get pretty noisy at night. Just plug in your headphones and it's not a problem. I love getting the mocha here because I don't really like strong coffee and it's pretty so there's a bonus. If you're looking for a trendy place to study with lots of room, I highly recommend this place! read more

I've been making a habit of stopping by here for a weekly pick-me-up after my Saturday volunteer shifts. Highly recommend the Morning Glory Muffin (carrot, raisins, bran) if you're in the mood for something hearty, filling, and not too sweet. Can't go wrong with a coffee either, but I noticed the Ginger Plum Iced Tea has been popular with the hot weather; it's unsweetened and a little tart--very refreshing. It's hard to find a place that will let you sit and work (with free wi-fi, of course!) for a few hours, has enough space that you don't feel like you're preventing others from having a seat, and also has substantial food choices -- and Coffee Lab does just that! You definitely have to be willing to sit next to a stranger to snag a spot during the busier times, but the community style tables in the back and the window counter seats made that comfortable. (I'm much more likely to sit next to someone at a big table or counter than ask to share a two top.) I really appreciated the opportunity to get a sandwich at this shop. A lot of places offer desserts, pastries and quiches, but not everyone offers a heartier option. Today I enjoyed a very tasty turkey melt sandwich, BBQ chips and an iced tea for a working lunch. I'm an iced tea gal, not a coffee drinker, and coffee shops don't often don't put as much thought into their tea options. The interior has great lighting and a relaxing atmosphere with just the right amount of background noise and music. The baristas are always very friendly and helpful. Executive summary: Parking can be difficult as there is no lot and street parking is at a premium. Restrooms are single seat, clean and spacious. Breakfast and lunch options available although limited options for vegetarians and those sensitive to gluten. I stopped here before a meeting and was very impressed. The Coffee Lab is aptly named. They use beakers to hold items like straws, creamer, and sugar and even steep coffee into beakers...how cool is that? I got the spinach and cheese quiche which was fantastic and a chai. Super foamy...just how I like it! They have lots of seating: individual armchairs, small tables, and even a few tables which seat 6-8 people. The big tables even have outlets on the side. They have a printer available and shelves of games if you're looking to kill some time. I would definitely stop back the next time I'm in town. read more

The speciality of Coffee Lab is, of course, their coffee. They offer the option of pour-over coffee, ($3.25 for 12oz) or "ready to go" coffee for $1.90 for 12oz. They also offer several espresso drinks and lattes. I had the "ready to go" coffee as well as a muffin which came from Great Harvest Bakery. The service I received was friendly and prompt, and you can tell the employees value the quality of the coffee and the service. read more

My husband drove me 45 minutes just to try this place and we will be back! I ordered a hot UBE latte with a shot of espresso and my husband ordered a drip coffee which were both very good! We also couldn't leave there without trying their UBE baked goods which were all exploding with flavor, softness and creaminess. Their customer service was amazing with the friendliest employees showing professional and outgoing personalities. The place was clean and well organized. We will definitely be driving back. I swung by here because I had some extra time before a meet up and needed an energy boost so I decided to come here and this coffee shop was really good! It's pretty close to the Northwestern so I think they do a good job catering towards college students. They have tons of seating and the space feels very open. This is one of my favorite cafes in Evanston. The location is perfect. Close to the CTA. The entire vibe of the cafe is really cost and warm. The staff are really friendly and helpful. Coming to the coffee and the food,it's definitely one of the best drip coffee that I have ever had. They also have this ube coconut latte which is so pretty and equally delicious. This new, renovated space is amazing - tons of new space, more tables, and great natural lighting. I used to only take my coffee to-go, for fear that I'd never be able to find an open table to study at, but now that they've added plenty more work space, Coffee Lab is a very fitting environment for all the busy Northwestern students. The coffee here is smooth and strong (I believe they use Intelligentsia beans) and the people who work here have been helpful and friendly during each of my visits. Where would about 30% of NU employees and goodness knows what % of students be without Coffee Lab? Always there for you, whether your coffee mug exploded on the El platform, you forgot your lunch box on the counter, or you just want to delay Monday morning a little bit longer. It's always buzzing with people either working on their laptops, doing group work, meeting with friends, or doing a quick informational interview. The selection is fantastic- from specialty pourover coffees, a huge espresso menu, and plain old drip. They have bagels, oatmeal, pastry, bottled drinks and juices, and snacks for all tastes. The coffee is really really great. The food is alright, but might be a tad overpriced to be honest. I'll usually just stick to coffee while I'm here. Another thing, and this is just kinda a personal pet peeve of mine - they have a lot of tables that sit more than one person, but then one person will show up and spread out all their stuff on that table, so there's often nowhere to sit. read more

Cute coffee shop right by Northwestern's Evanston campus. When my friend and I stopped by to study for a few hours, the place was pretty packed. They have seating up by the front of the shop, but bring a jacket to bundle up in the cold weather because the draft can kill you when there are lots of people coming in and going out. Eventually, we were able to migrate to the back of the shop where it was warmer. We shared a big table with some other people and overheard some interesting conversations. There are plenty of outlets available if you need to charge your laptop or your phone. We both had a couple of drinks. I had an iced chai latte. The barista was nice. I'd stop by again to try out one of the sandwiches or the quiche. read more

You really can taste a difference between roasters and other coffee places who don't use freshly roasted beans. The latte and mocha are both great. You don't get an acidity from the coffee and they are smooth and flavorful. The mocha has the perfect amount of chocolate and isn't too sweet. I love flipping through the old encyclopedias. Street Meter parking but there's parking right around the corner, away from the lake.. which is a two hour free parking. It's a big place which has a lot of tables to pick from. Music was loud the time I went. You need earplugs. The cappuccino was delicious and they made a cute art on it. Honey bread was okay but it wasn't bad. Employees were friendly. read more

I've always been a fan of this homespun coffee shop. And now in its new location (much bigger!) I am enthusiastically signing its praises! While expanding, they've kept the same cozy, "I build these tables myself" feel. The coffee is brewed well and the mochas aren't terribly sweet. Now serving food! Great staff! read more

Spacious, friendly atmosphere! Good prices for the quality of coffee that they give. A lot of younger college kids are here which always makes things more fun haha. The staff is so nice! The only reason I'm giving four stars is because the white mocha drink I got wasn't really sweet. It was good coffee but for the extra money, I wish it would have been a bit more flavorful. But it was good! Overall it's a good space to get work done, there's also a nice library's with a cool electric fire place to make it feel more homey. Their decor is pretty trendy, lots of wood and chalk board! I would defiantly come back to maybe try some of the other drinks. I will say though that you have to pay for parking so if you're going to be here for a while keeep that in mind. read more

Great place to get coffee! It's a little different than the usual Starbucks or DD. It's a very cute, little coffee shop. It's a great place to study. It is also very close to parts of the Northwestern campus.
