love this place. Wonderful back room to do quiet work in (although the decorations are a bit iffy) and the snow fox latte is decadent. Seemingly random but their hamburger & fries ROCK and their blueberry pancakes are a good deal in the morning. I was excited to try Coffee Underground but I was a bit underwhelmed by the coffee. Seemed a bit flat and watery. Grabbed an egg and cheese english muffin that was okay but lacked any distinguishing features. The ambiance is the selling point of this place. A really cool vibe and nice place to chill for a bit. A lot of folks were having meetings and seemed like a good space for that as well. If you are going for a great coffee experience, skip it and go down to Methodical Coffee. If you want a nice, chill place to meet with some friends and/or get some work done, this is a good choice. read more

I go here a LOT. Probably once a week on average. The employees are all incredible and deliver super fast, even when they're super busy. The flavored coffees are awesome. If you're looking for actual GREAT coffee I'd suggest Grateful Brew, but Coffee Underground drivers everywhere else. The atmosphere is so cozy and the food is awesome. And man, the employees are INCREDIBLE. They know my name and always ask how i'm doing, and one waitress even knows my favorite order by heart. They're all sweethearts that truly make the place what it is. It's a staple for downtown Greenville for sure. read more

I had a terrible experience here. I arrived at 8:15 pm to have drinks before the comedy show next door and waited 15 minutes for a waitress to acknowledge my table. I put my order in at 8:30 and waited for my one drink for 25 minutes the show started at 9:00 so I asked our waitress to cancel the order because we needed to go. My friend stayed behind to wait for her drink and by the time she got her drink the waitress brought her drink along with the drinks me and my wife ordered and told my friend she could not cancel the order because if I wanted to cancel my order I would have needed to go up to the bartender "myself" and explain to the bartender I no longer wanted my drinks. This issue escalated to the point where the owner of this establishment harassed my friend untill she paid for the drinks her self regardless that she waited 45 minutes for her one drink and my wife and I canceled our order 20 minutes earlier. It should be noted we let the waitress know the last 2 times we waited a long time last time too. read more

This is a really nice place to go, charming and fun. The Service was tops. I was visiting Greenville from out of town for a conference. I really liked the self serve iced tea and coffee. I like to make it my way. What I DIDN'T like was the internet policy. There is a two hour limit and there is no wi-fi sharing. What is this, the 1990's Russia? I did not see this anywhere else in Greenville, but it may exist. I am from Phoenix, and coffee shops are places for off campus offices and to meet for meetings, so this kind of strict policy would not work there. Other than that, I do recommend this place. The vibe at this place is unbelievable. I can not believe I had not done a review for it yet! (Friend just pointed it out). The coffee is the best downtown (and possible in the city) and they even have some vegetarian options on the menu. Can you say "Win-Win"? On top of all that they have really fast ans stable Wi-Fi which also makes it a really cool place to get some work done too. New Patrons --BE ADVISED-- the place is at the corner of Coffee street (aptly named huh?) and you have to literally go DOWN the stairs to find the place. It is literally underground. Not only is this THE coffee house to go to in Greenville; this is also a great restaurant. I recommend the Sirloin Burger with fries. The crab cakes were also great. Other great points: awesome cookies, relaxing atmosphere (great for socializing or studying), and its performance space. The staff also know their coffee and are always friendly. read more

On November 3rd, I got a latte from a cofee establishment that shall not be named at the Baltimore Airport enroute to Greenville, South Carolina. I did not know that that was going to be my last beverage at that chain coffee establishment. My friend took me to Coffee Underground on Monday November 8th and I have not had coffee from any of my local chain coffee establishments since then. I have since started frequenting local gems and discovering places that I had not been to in a really long time or new places. I don't remember what I ordered at Coffee Underground but it was delicious and I plan on definitely stopping by next time and I am in the area. read more

Upon entrance, I thought "cool". Kind of a Gothic appeal in the back room. The coffee wasn't bad. And the night we returned for coffee and dessert, the items were pretty good. But I just can't give it a great review. The staff were kind of stand offish...not friendly. It was LOUD. I guess I'm an old fogy sort. One can't seem to find ANYWHERE for quiet conversation anymore. And maybe that is not entirely the fault of the establishment. Maybe it is just that this country is full of rude, loud, obnoxious people who think everyone wants to hear each word they say. I've visited here a number of times over the years for casual meetings with business associates and it is consistently great. Free WiFi, good coffee (I like regular and dislike StarBucks because of the emphasis on "bucks") and always quiet. The amount of space there to spread out is surprising, and there are couches and chairs and all sorts of tables and cubbies. It would also be fine for a casual first date. First they made my breakfast sandwich on toast instead of English muffin, left off the tomato after I paid for both of these things and THEN the coffee mug had red lipstick still on the rim - which I noticed after drinking half of it because it was dark inside, but once i took a table outside - there it was staring at me! We were delighted to find this restaurant while visiting Greenville last month. It has a great vibe, and the staff is so friendly. The coffee is great, but the best part is that their entire menu is available any time. I'm a vegetarian, and I could order any of their several veggie options for breakfast, which was a nice change. Everything we had was great, and we went back for a second visit. Very affordable and delicious food. You order at the counter (except for dnner) and then the staff brings it to your table. If I were a local, this would be my coffee spot. (Let me be fair and say I didn't go to any other coffee shops in Greenville, but why would you after seeing Coffee Underground?) A Florida native, I thought it was neat to go underground for coffee, to begin with. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate. There was a good crowd but I got my (yummy) Pumpkin Pie Latte quickly, after I had a chance to peek around the place. I love the theater vibe and eclectic mix of people doing crosswords, studying, etc. The cashier wasn't the friendliest, but not rude. Their small is the equivalent of most mediums: my "small" latte had 2 shots of espresso (No complaint here.) read more
