two cups of green tea and a spoon

I went here with my friends as we thought it would be a nice place to escape from the rain and chat and it was alright. We got a cafe latte, cappuccino, and a matcha latte and sat at a small table in the cafe. The place was overall pretty quiet and there were a couple people doing work, so I would recommend this place more for doing work and studying rather than catching up with friends. The drinks were alright overall. The cafe latte and cappuccino were both okay and weren't great but definitely overpriced in my opinion. And, the matcha latte was just bad. It tasted as if they forgot to dissolve the matcha powder and just put it on top because once i drank the top layer, it was just straight milk. In the end, I couldn't even get through half way. Definitely would not be coming back again for the drinks, when I could go to a much better coffee shop for cheaper and better drinks.

Gaslamp is a peculiar place to visit, but don't go on the wrong side of town... Vancouver for the day! Ordered: $8.50 CAD ~ $6.79 USD for the affogato at Coffeebar Tina's Travels and Tabloid - Find street parking for about $2 CAD for 30 minutes. Cash only for parking meters - This coffee bar does take card so that's good! - From the reviews, I didn't interact with much of staff members; although, smiles were exchanged. - I was so relaxed (minus counting down the minutes to my meter) and enjoyed my affogato. It's sometimes too delicious to pass up when I see it on the menu anywhere! - Delicious ice cream and coffee? Who can complain?

I stopped by last week during a visit to Gastown with my family. They had a selection of pastries and sandwiches in a small glass case and a variety of coffee drinks to choose from. I selected a chocolate cheesecake and an iced Spanish latte. The cheesecake was okay, but I haven't been able to stop thinking about the latte. It was made with condensed milk, which I had never had in coffee before. It really knocked my socks off and I now am going to attempt to make it at home. My one complaint is the service. The girl who took our order wasn't friendly at all. I understand it is a busy location, but it doesn't hurt to at least fake a smile every once in a while.

Came in here on a whim and was not disappointed. Their chai latte is perfect- enough spice and a perfect amount of sweetness. The matcha bar is equally as delicious. If this was located closer to my home I'd make frequent visits.

Spacious, good coffee, and good quality food as well. There's coffee shops with lots of space, but crappy coffee, and there's coffee shops with excellent coffee, but no food to go with it, but at coffee bar you can have it all: a nice place to sit at, great cup of coffee, something tasty on the side, and you know what else? excellent service.

    * Watery espresso and WAAAAY overpriced baked goods * I've never been in a cafe where the barista spent about 90 seconds grooming the coffee before tampering it. It was as if she was a frustrated artist putting the finishing touches on her masterpiece. It would have been even more impressive if it made a good shot of espresso. But the espresso was just a bit watery somehow. Not sure how that happened after her 90 seconds of massaging the beans. Perhaps it let the ground beans spend too much time in the air before making the damned coffee? Yeah, that must be it. Or perhaps it is that she took the excess ground coffee and put it back into the grinder, so that likely the grinder has lots of older ground coffee mixing with the newer and getting over worked? Yeah, that definitely is it. It is a shame because they are using 49th parallel beans, which normally are quite good. Too bad they aren't handling them well. Here is a shot of the espresso: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/6r5Lc4c9R-4ph8lboezr6g?select=ULGOMwWnd54wjxTzWxpO7g Now on to the baked goods. A thin looking chocolate chip cookie for $3.85?!?!?!?! No thank you.

After peeking through the white paper for a few months, they finally opened about a month ago. I can now hop down to get my fix almost without getting wet and wearing my smoking jacket (well maybe not). They are still getting the bugs ironed out and waiting for some new comfortable lounge furniture but overall great start! They have a Thomas Haas trained pastry chef that is doing a great job. New items keep popping up and without exception, all are very good. Rich but great quality. Test is doing a croissant that stands up to Thomas' own which is a tall order. The coffee beans are from 49th Parallel and they use the Mirage Espresso Machine with a classic lever system. Very cool and they are well trained getting good crema out of each shot. Overall great traditional capuccino very close to what 49th does in their West 4th location and I don't have to drive. Decor is evolving and still needs some finishing and warming up. Apparently there is a banquet that is coming that will help a lot. Food is also evolving and I am sure will continue to get better. Opening hours need to be consistent. 7am is what was posted and it needs to not change. We desperately needed a great coffee choice in the hood that was open by 7am.

I have have the best traditional cup of cappuccino ever!! The waitstaff is very nice she helped me with the perfect selection. I can drink coffee all day long. The cup was so good I got a 2nd one. For a penny pincher as I, that says a lot. I'd pay $5 for a cup of something at Starbucks, this was worth every penny. Good ambiance, sweet treats look good as well.

    Yum.

We ordered the following: Tiramisu Latte Caprese Bite London Fog Apple Cookie Cherry Matcha Tonic Tiramisu Sea Salt Caramel Gelato The Cherry Matcha Tonic was pretty but wasn't too crazy about the flavor. I should have just gone with my original gut instinct and chosen a hot beverage like Hojicha Latte or something like that. I was sort of thirsting for something cooler for a change though, and the Cherry Matcha Tonic was the first "cool" drink that caught my eye so I decided to go for it. Won't do that again. Everything else was good though. The Sea Salt Caramel Gelato was the star of the show! In the store there's a sign beneath their gelato section that says "Canadian Gelato Champion". I believe it after tasting the Sea Salt Caramel! They had Nama Chocolates too. I was tempted to get some but...only so much a person's wallet and waistline can handle at one time. Will try the Nama Chocolate some other time. You can order in person here, or you can place an "Express" order at the Kiosk. We tried both ways of ordering. Ordered at the counter first and then after finished my Cherry Matcha Tonic decided I wanted to try the Sea Salt Gelato so then tried ordering that from the Kiosk. Most of the parking in this area is paid but I lucked out and got a free spot right around the corner from this place!

I could tell even from outside that it's a popular work and study type of coffee shop with your free wifi and outlets. I hope this post doesn't give it away and make it way too crowded for me to find a seat next time. There's a steady flow of people visiting the stores while I was there on a weekday between late afternoon and early evening but there's always extra seat for anyone new looking for a desk to work or chat with friends. A few could be better are the pricing and temperature. They offer free oat milk substitute and -$0.35 for bringing your own cup but no more employee discount. And it was so cold in there, I could see a lot of people kept their winter jackets on, I don't think it's a heating issue but the constant windy seems to suggest the AC is on rather than the heater, oh wells Im out of there now. For that reason, unless I'm bundled up, it'll be a hard sale to be back again! I got a hojicha latte and it as pretty good, perfect sweetness and temperature for my cold with no ice. The barista was super great to work with.

Knowing how good 49th Parallel is with coffee I thought I'd try their version of the London Fog. I wasn't disappointed. In fact it was best London Fog I've ever had. I've had them at other places but I've never seen a preparation like 49th. They use loose leaf Earl Gray tea in a tall paper tea bag. They put the bag in your cup pour the steamed milk in and the tea steeps right into the milk. It's the smoothest London Fog I've had and isn't cloyingly sweet like many I've had.

I was in need of a snack and this was a short walk from our hotel. 49th Parallel is well known for their thoughtfully sourced, house-roasted coffees and their cult-favorite donuts, but they also offer a small menu of sandwiches if you're looking for something more filling. It wasn't too busy when we got there, though most of the tables were taken. We ordered a mix of sweet and savory: the chestnut brûlée donut, a salted caramel old fashioned, and a couple of breakfast sandwiches--the Doug and the Cascadia--both served on soft, buttery brioche buns. My other half also grabbed an Americano to go with it all. The chestnut brûlée donut was my fav of the bunch. The chestnut flavor was perfectly balanced--nice and light. The sandwiches were also good, especially thanks to that pillowy soft brioche. Overall, 49th Parallel was the perfect stop for a small, simple snack! Would recommend.
