Dear Coffeebar Management, I work across the street and come here regularly (I'm actually sitting here at one of your tables using your wifi to write this). Every time I come in, I'm reminded with how annoyed I am with you guys. Why in the world do you keep the Splenda and napkins behind the counter?! Because this one time you had someone come in and they took a lot of both and now you want to save sixty three cents? According to Yelp, there's 21 other coffee shops within four blocks of here -- all of which (based on extrapolation) keep handy, needed things (like Splenda and napkins) in a very accessible place. Do you know how annoying it is that every time I order a coffee (which, as you know, is delivered right at the cash register) I have to walk over the serving counter and try to get the attention of usually ultra-busy barista to ask for a measly pack of Splenda and a napkin. Next time I'm in, I hope to see the Splenda and napkins where they belong (next to all the other coffee necessities). read more

This convenient location makes for a good hideaway when the rains come down, which they inevitably do, but it is not the kind of place I'd necessarily hang out in on a regular basis. They serve a decent enough Americano, but there's something about 49th Parallel beans that I just can't get down with anymore. They almost always taste a bit burned -- not that Coffeebar is at fault, but you know... they *did* choose to brew with that particular brand. Staff are always nice, but not too much so, and there's almost always a table open, so I'm sure this makes for a decent enough workspace / meeting area. But beyond that, it doesn't offer much in the charm department. An entirely acceptable coffee joint, but with so many other rad options in the neighbourhood, it doesn't do much to woo. read more

I stumbled on Coffee Bar after sampling many a Vancouver's coffee shop selection, while needing a quick place to get some online things done. This place was only a few blocks away from my cousin's home in Gastown, and decided to give it a try. Even though Coffee Bar is highly trendy and in one of the most touristy parts of town, it's still a good place to have coffee, talk, and get things done online. I ended up coming here multiple times during my stint in Vancouver, and was not disappointed. Their snacks, coffee, service, location, and atmosphere were all positive, including staying there until midnight on a Friday. Note: Thanks to the very nice man behind the counter, with whom we discussed my motorcycle adventure, and he gave me some "adventure fuel" in the form of a delicious slice of banana bread. read more

When I walked into this place, I thought that they had relocated 49th Parallel. So if you like that place, you'll love Coffeebar. Personally, I just felt a little chilly, uncomfortable in my seat, wondered where the shared newspaper was, and then sipped a coffee that was a little more roasted than I like. Again, that's just my preference. My partner, who dragged me there in the rain, would give this place 5 starts...but it's my review! It was fun, however, to watch the younguns over at the Caya store next door watch music videos and generally play around because they had nothing else to do. read more

You know the most important thing about buying a house / property is location, location, location.... So to me, the most important thing about eating at high end restaurants or premium food is service, service, service..... I skipped brunch to enjoy the walk on a sunny Sunday morning to try this new coffeebar... I love 49th parallel coffee and after readying the awesome reviews about their delicious pastries, I had to jump at the opportunity. Not to mention I'm never ready to get out of the house before 10am but I was excited today....well the mood sure changed a a minute after I walked in to the most unhappy lady behind the counter. Grumpy, short tempered, and bad attitude. We ordered our stuff and found a seat at the back of the coffee bar, which I have to add has some pretty cool stenciled looking chairs. We got a croissant and a berry muffin, which I think had some cornmeal in it too. The croissant was SUPER buttery and flaky, I could have devoured it but that was his treat. The muffin was moist and had good fluff to it. When we picked up our coffee, the coffees were poured into mugs, when we had requested it in to-go cups.. I even saw it punched into the til.... and no I did not want the coffee "dumped" into a paper cup... it ruins the drink for me altogether. Thank goodness the mug kept my coffee warm throughout, and I have never been disappointed with their espresso so I was still happy on that note. Not a great way to start off a beautiful Sunday morning... There's also 49th Parallel to go at Medina's and it comes in all sorts of flavours. What a gloomy Sunday afternoon. I was so sleepy and needed a kick in ass to write more entries. I decided to head out to downtown and finally do a review on revolver coffee. We parked the car and got out, paid the parking meter only to find out that the damn place was closed on Sunday. I guess they think people are supposed to feel fatigued and walk around like zombies on Sunday. The good thing out of the bad is that we drove passed water street to discover a new coffee shop right on water street called coffee bar. This contemporary design is attractive to street traffic. Inside you will find a busy front end of the store. Immediately you will be attracted to the menu projected to the wall. banana girl picked her 'safe' drink, the americano. I asked her for review, she told me it was a little acidic, handed me the cup and I thought it was almost to a point where it's sour. For once I rather enjoy a cup at Starbucks. I was feeling adventurous and ordered their matcha latte. I had the best matcha latte back in Kelowna of all places and decided to order one here. Since I popped my cherry tasting one with very bold matcha flavors, this was very subtle indeed. From this short review, I'm still pissed I didn't get to check out revolver coffee. This coffee bar did not fill the gap. At the end of the day, if you're walk down water street and MUST sit down for a coffee, this place isn't bad, but that's just it. read more

Wow $8 for a tea and cookie? It's times like these that remind me how much the standard of living in Canada has deteriorated in recent years. We can still buy nice things, but the price seems to be getting more and more unreasonable. Inflation is the enemy. Pretty soon it will be $12 for tea and cookie. Remember, you heard it here first. But all is not lost. Similar products can be had at Tim Hortons for probably 50% of the cost after all. (Of course the cookies are probably imported from China along with everything else...) So why would someone pay double for the "Coffee Bar" experience? The environment is superior to Tim Ho's. Presumably the coffee and food are also better quality. But that is true at Starbucks, which I would place on equal footing with Coffee Bar for quality at a lower price point. I think what it comes down to is 'cool factor' and 'street cred.' This place is independent, and therefore more trendy. "Have you been to Coffee Bar yet?" If you want to have that conversation, you better be ready to pay the premium. read more

My PB cookie tasted like old fridge smell - EW! You know when you've left ice cubes in the freezer for far too long, and ends up tasting like your old freezer / meat / who else knows what is frozen? Yeah, thats what the PB cookie tasted like. PB chocolate-dipped cookies are one of my favs, so I got one, along with a chai latte. The chai was pretty weak. Not something I particularly enjoyed. But the cookie - I broke off a piece, and it tasted nothing like peanut butter, or maybe it was completely masked by the fridge smell that it absorbed. Its soft, so maybe it picks up smells more easily than the other firmer ones. We tried the oatmeal and chocolate chip as well, which were fine. I went back to ask for an exchange for an oatmeal cookie, and the lady behind the counter said the PB is their best seller, and they just got them in yesterday, that she wouldn't exchange but that I can buy something else for 50% off. I just paid $3 for something that tastes like fridge, and you want me to pay for another? Another worker broke off a piece to try, and he said, "I can see what she's talking about.. it tastes like the fridge". THANK YOU! Even if the cookies were just shipped in yesterday, it was probably very absorbent, or maybe I was served one of the last remaining ones from the previous shipment. They finally gave me my exchange, but the lady wasn't happy. I felt bad - I get that operating out of Gastown is hard for business owners and can't be comping food all the time, but as a paying customer, I think its ridiculous to pay for something that is clearly tasting off. Maybe wrap them up, or put them in another compartment within the fridge. read more

My go-to cafe to work and/or chill as they have outlets, WiFi and are open later than most cafés in downtown. It's also a huge space so you probably won't have difficulty finding a seat. I've only ordered espressos here but I can tell you that they're fabulous. read more

Great coffee place in Gastown. With the freshest bean the 49th Pararell roasters, they are using an unique design machine to serve specialty espresso variation coffees. Their breakfast wrap and pastries are also delicious and fresh. Nice lighting from outside of Gastown street and inside lights make this place fancy, cozy and relax every day and night. read more

I love to sit in the window with my laptop and work away on projects in this shop. The baked goods are nice but often a tad dry. They do offer rad gluten free, vegan and no sugar treats if that suits your dietary desires.They play nice music ( think world beats meets lounge) so if you forget your headphones it still has a rad vibe. It has solid wifi but isn't as jampacked as some of the other coffee shops in gastown. Here is why: The coffee is good but not great. Also after 4:30 they stop making drip coffee and make you buy an Americano instead. At east at Starbucks if they don't have coffee they offer the Americano at the same price. I prefer Smartmouth Cafe however it gets super busy in there. So if you walk by and see a girl with short hair sitting in the window seat smashing out a project on her macbook pro pop in and say hi!!!! read more

Oh my god...Why don't I ever come to Gastown?! Cute cafe surrounded by a beautiful community. Don't go too far out though, or you'll head into sketch-town territory. I don't go to Coffeebar very often, but here's the thing: The coffee is usually "decent" but not "great". I didn't it like it much because the atmosphere seemed to suggest a "great" coffee and that raised my expectations a bit. I finally warmed to it eventually when meeting friends there from time to time. So why three stars? I like this place because: - it is convenient to go with friends or schedule a meeting, since you can almost always grab a free table to sit at. - free wi-fi while you are waiting, patiently for your tardy friends. (We all have some and half of them are worth the wait) - they are open late. - atmosphere is good! It's a place you can go to escape your office or home to just observe an odd variety of people and get observed too. It's like being in a large glass aquarium because of the floor to ceiling windows. -music is usually pretty good and not too loud All that goodness adds up to an "A-OK" from me! FOR PASTRY ADDICTS! I can't comment on the pastry there, mostly since I dont think I've ever had any, (except sneaking bites from friends - which always makes it taste better) So my apologies, addicts! The service peeps often seem a lot like the coffee- not great, not terrible, either bland or just slightly kinda burnt or bitter... Which kinda makes sense. Also, it seems the staff changes up a lot, it seems there's someone new serving every time i go. If the service/coffee became stellar (5 star), I'd probably have to stop going because there would be no available tables, long lines, it would be loud... I've only just had the coffee, but I'm a fan off the bat. I guess some people aren't into 49th Parallel coffee, but I really like it, so am pleased to see Coffeebar in Gastown. Having just come from InForm Interiors, I was feeling high fashion indeed, and this café fit the mood. It's true, patrons are well dressed and have some that "I'm so cool its depressing" aura, but when you're feeling so cool its depressing, thats just the ticket. Coolest part is that its in Gaoler's Mews, which is no doubt going to become the beating heart of Gastown, what with Boneta relocating there and all. Love the ambiance of this place! Floor to ceiling windows, a ton of seating, great music, fantastic people-watching... never mind the delicious coffee and snacks! I've had the brownie bar (delicious) and coconut lemon bar (a dream). The breakfast burrito was good but not spectacular. The lattes are amazing, and the vanilla rooibos is tasty. The service isn't overly friendly but that's okay. Everything else more than makes up for it! A great spot to meet a friend for coffee, or to hang out and work for a few hours. A real gem! read more

Very occasional unfriendly, borderline rude service by one of the staff that seems to be there almost daily. 2. Smelly/unplesant bathroom (and only one available both for men and women) 3. Back door slams really loud when people go in and out. And this happens like every 2 minutes. 4. Below average coffee. 5. Spotty wifi. 1 Star for their coffee, 5 stars for their pastries, 4 stars for atmosphere and 2 stars for service comes down to a grand total of three stars for the Coffeebar! Perhaps not the ideal coffee for a typical White Mocha person (so not too much of a pure coffee fanatic), but the coffee was just way too bitter and used unsweetened cocoa powder in my mocha. Pastries on the other hand were everything one could ask for and more! Butter crossaint and cinnamon roll danish were both fresh, fluffy and can be filed in the "oh no, he didn't?!?!?!" compartment. Also free wi-fi if you ask for password. It's a very obvious one, so you might be able to guess it, Sherlock! read more

Poor customer service. I bought a cup of chai latte for here and then asked for a cup of hot water in a to-go cup so that it's safer to handle as I have a young child with me. The cashier said she had to charge me for the take away cup but no charge if it's in a mug. This is the dumbest thing I have heard. If I got my chai latte in take away cup, would she charge me extra? Probably not and they would have been out in terms of inventory in the exact same way. Due to this establishment's nickle and diming practice, they have lost me as a customer. read more

Ambiance is nice. Good music, relaxed atmosphere, reasonable space between tables. Service was horrible. We ordered 4 coffees - an americano, two lattes, and an espresso - and it was nearly 10 minutes between our first drink and last drink being ready. I had to return to the bar to confirm they were making my espresso. The barista had to reconfirm our entire order; he had lost track? I also had to remind them of our undelivered carrot cake. This is my favourite coffee shop in Gastown! The staff is so lovely, and it's such a nice space. It's tucked into a little corner of Gastown, but still central enough to enjoy the city on foot. Their almond croissants are to die for, and I love the atmosphere of the place. Before the pandemic, when my college courses were still online, I used to always drop by after class for a study session and a chai latte, and of course an almond croissant. Fingers crossed that I'll get to do that again soon! read more

Settled for this on a rainy day. Really wouldn't come here for any other reason. The coffee certainly does not taste as good as its price would suggest it should! The baristas are friendly, however, and know how to make a good affogato. Also, noticed they're selling (practically) the world's tiniest macarons for $2 which is even more than patisseries like Thierry's sell larger ones for. It doesn't make any sense to me. The location and availability of Wi-Fi is really the main selling point here, I can definitely see a hipster working/studying crowd flourishing in this place but other than that, nothing worth going out of your way for. My local morning coffee Location - super convenient for me in the morning. Coffee - delicious - Spanish lattes are a favorite. Service - hit or miss - anyone who rings in the order is always in a bad mood but there is one lovely girl manning the machine who is so sweet she makes up for the place. Pastries - made in house and they do a damn good almond croissant. So go and get a delicious latte but don't expect them to be happy you're there! read more

I have been here a few times because it is close to my office. Recently I ordered chilli from the always unfriendly cashier which was re-heated in the microwave, blande and cold, and took a while. By the time I got it, it was ice cold and I had to ask for it to be heated up again. They grudgingly approved with a frown. Another time I went there i ordered a small coffee in a small cup. They told me with a tone that said "I hate my job" if I ever did that again I would have to pay extra. Everything here is overpriced, and they blatantly are penny pinchers with a bad attitude. They also don't have soy or almond milk. Get with the times. The best coffee and servers are at Smart Mouth beside Aveda. Bring your service there instead. read more

Came here for a cappuccino. Asked for extra shot. Woman named Lisa made my cappuccino. Received it it was way too hot to be a cappuccino and was pretty much a large hot cup of espresso. When i returned the cup still full, asked Lisa to make me a new one. Didn't like her customer service attitude. Would not return. read more
