Coffey Automotive in St Charles - - I took car in for pulsing front brakes on 7/28/2025. They drove it and I'm guessing upon inspection of all wheels, deemed new brakes and rotors on both axles were needed. I had repairs done, picked it up, and it sat in driveway a few days before I drove it around on short trips, 40 mph max speed. When I did take it out onto highway, the front end shook violently around 53 mph and higher. I thought it might be bad gas or spark plug failure. But after a few times on the highway, it only got worse. Took car back and they went for a drive with me and felt the shaking at 55 mph. Called me later and said that upon further inspection, the left front caliper and brake hose were damaged and had to be replaced. Coffey would not take any responsibility or acknowledge that it could have been their fault while replacing the brakes and rotors. All Coffey would do was lower the parts cost and charge full labor cost for the repair, , my cost was $423.03. So they cleared $326.50 just on labor on a repair fixing damage that they did during brake and rotor replacement. It was not a coincidence that the damaged caliper and brake hose were found after they worked on the brakes, and not be their doing. Original owner is gone, , it's under new management. Engine light came on so I took my 2014 Twn&Cntry mini van to the dealer. I was told a heating sensor was showing the heating vent was stuck open and could catch the car on fire. I agreed to have them fix it for almost $700 including the Diagnostics - which showed I need new struts, shocks and that my tie rods were bent. That would be an additional &7200.00 and I would need to leave it for a week. My son who works for a different dealership told me to take it to Coffee where he takes his personal car, that they would give me the straight scoop. I made an appointment and took it in on a Monday, they diagnosed it, explained everything to me as if I actually had a brain in my head (what I definitely needed and what I didn't really need) and when I agreed, they stuck it up on the rack and I was home in less that 3 hours. My bill was less than 1/10th of what the dealership quoted and I didn't have to leave it for a week. I owe my son a steak dinner for recommending them. I was VERY impressed with their customer service, their quick service, their having parts on hand instead of a week delay to order parts, and most of all their honesty. They were personable and professional. I told them I'll definitely be back for my next oil change and maintenance upkeep. I will definitely be recommending them. read more

The man on the phone was pretty nice. Told me they were having free AC check, so I went over to drop off my car. I came back after a few hours and was shocked to see it was $141! My car had needed freon which was fine, but they went ahead and vacuumed it out, tested, used the leak detection dye kit and topped off my freon before asking me. I don't have an issue paying for freon. I know it's expensive, BUT... I was charged $77 labor off a FREE AC check. If I had known, I would have taken it to Jiffy Lube, Dobbs or any of the nearby places that do free AC check. It was still cooling, just not well so I probably would have waited a week for a paycheck if I had known the cost, or at least shopped around on pricing to see if theirs was comparable. My friend from our office called down there and they told her "well, we will just take our parts back from her car then". What? That's so rude and aggressive. Not to mention that vacuuming out the 1.5 lbs of freon would be more vindictive than anything, since it would be "labor" for one of their guys to take the time to do that. They finally told her I'd get a refund after she stopped in there in person. I wasn't about to go back down there after they threatened to "take back parts." We shall see if the credit shows up. Unfortunately, my boss uses them for the company trucks, (spends thousands there between them) so it's awkward dealing with them now, but I doubt I'll take my own car there anymore. Yesterday was my birthday and I decided to get my fast-blinking left blinker fixed. Went to Coffey Automotive. While there, they told me my windshield wipers were really old and actually one came off in their hands. I count on my mechanic to tell me things like that. Then they mentioned that my battery was not fastened down. I said yes, I knew. I went to an oil change place and they told me and gave me the steel plate. Told me to get a bolt but said it wasn't a problem. The mechanic at Coffey explained that the battery could shift and bump into other parts of the car and it is a problem. I had the plate still in my car; he put the bolt in. All taken care. Then he wished me a Happy Birthday. Great visit. read more

A representative took the time to call me and discuss the details and make sure they performed the work properly. The estimate they gave me was somewhat overwhelming but that was because they were so thorough. These are good guys striving to do a good job to keep your vehicle on the road. read more

BUYER BEWARE We purchased a Groupon for an oil change and wiper blade replacement. We have never used this place, so thought we would give it a try. Big Mistake!!!! When we drove home after the oil change, the engine was running rough, and wouldn't even start at first. The wiper fluid, which yesterday was fine, suddenly had a hole in the hose and would no longer squirt fluid on the windshield. The engine light came on later in the day. We have an older car, but it has low miles for its age, and has been well taken care of. We just had the car serviced last week for a safety inspection by another shop, and with the exception of a belt replacement, checked out okay. We took the car back to the shop we usually use, and the computer indicated that the engine had been started WITH NO OIL IN THE ENGINE! I would not recommend this place to anyone, and I plan on telling everyone I can to stay away from dishonest and unscrupulous shop. read more

After having to wait an extra day to wait for them to finish my car, I finally got it back only to find out they didn't even fix my problem.
