A landmark in Middle River since 1947, Coffman's is a basic, no frills breakfast/lunch bar, women owned and operated. I remember my Dad bringing me here as a kid. They offer a limited menu but the food is good and the price is excellent! I had the breakfast special, which was a huge plate of hash browns, scrambled eggs, well done bacon and toast. All were perfectly cooked to order and in under 5 minutes. An excellent place for a quick but good lunch. Eat in or take out. They are famous for their hot dogs. Busy little diner. We needed a quick lunch to share. A Google search showed us this place. We walked in the front door to see a counter full of patrons. The wait staff was busy prepping meals. Quick look around the corner showed a bigger sitting area. We ordered a turkey club. I mean a turkey club, pretty simple. It was fabulous. Tasty & fresh. A few deli pickles to go with the sandwich. This review is for the Coffman's chili dog. Definitely one of my favorite indulgences. It's your standard hot dog in a sloppy mess of a bun filled with chili, mustard and onions. I am not a big portion person, but man, I could crush two or possibly even three in one sitting. They also have homemade soups which are pretty good, and I want to try their burger too. There are other menu items as well, posted on the wall above the cook's window. But I just can't get around ordering that hot dog when I am in the Middle River area. Service is always pleasant and quick. It is also very cheap so bring cash; there is a $10 min for debit/credit cards, which would be a lot of food! The space is an old-time lunch counter that has been around for decades, and that alone is worth checking out. And don't just take my word for it. I've heard this is a favorite spot for MASN analyst David Johnson, of Orioles pitching fame. read more

Came here for lunch on a Thursday from a friend's recommendation. Ordered the bacon and cheese burger and was absolutely delighted. Premium and fresh ingredients from top to bottom. The food was really good. The service was amazing they're really polite there, and the ambiance is nice and homey.

As a group of former customers of Coffman's, approximately 15-20 customers had left Coffman's over the last 4 months. There seems to be a policy that the wait staff dictates how the customers are treated and the management is not interested in hearing the customers complaints. I might add, that our group of customers that had been supportive of that business for 10+ years. But it is all good and our new breakfast hangout appreciates our business. read more

This is one of those places that only people who either lived nearby or know somebody who has been there know about. Located near Martin State Airport in a surprisingly "hidden in plain view" location, I believe that the restaurant has been around since the 1940's. Very informal, diner-type restaurant that serves their whole menu all day long. Want a chili dog at 7AM? Yes, you can! Want pancakes and bacon at 5PM? I think you can! The whole place consists of two rooms, the front counter/kitchen and a back dining room that requires patrons to walk past the "rear" kitchen. Decor is quite dated and utilitarian, but it's part of the charm. My wife often visits here with co-workers in the morning for chili dogs, while I enjoy the chili dogs, burgers, and most of the breakfast menu. I have never seen the place completely empty; in fact, it's normally pretty busy when I have been there. Pros: The whole menu is available all day, simple but good food (especially the chili dogs), very inexpensive and a good value for a quick bite to eat. Cons: Parking in any other lot will end up in your car getting towed (not Coffman's fault), $10 minimum for credit card purchases. Highly recommended for a quick snack or just some simple but excellent blue collar food! One of my favorites! read more

As far as small business goes this is a hole in the wall place that you just fall in love with upon entering the establishment. Every knows each other it seems like, the stories are amazing and the way the community sticks together is untouchable. The menu is a little limited but the heart and soul that goes into the food is like no other. Best breakfast you can find any morning of the week, well except Sundays. Poor customer service! I am Sad that I was greatly ignored by the staff after the local ladies at work suggested I couldn't go wrong today after craving chili and promised it would be good on a hot dog with cheese, the specialty I was told. I don't do a lot of nitrates but I was giving another chance to this business. I felt as if I was an outsider upon walking in and standing near the cash register behind another woman until it was obvious it wasn't my turn and sat at the dirty bar with the last patron's dirty dishes and drink cup. It took a full 10 minutes to gain eye contact with an employee just as I was about to walk out to salvage the last few moments of my 30 minute lunch break and go across the street to Chik fil a when the short order cook turned around and said who's next after I'd been there all along and others that came through the door were served ahead of me and after a carry out patron came in 10 minutes after me from another door. I raised my hand and she took my hot dog with cheese and chili order and seemed annoyed doing so as well as tapping her fingers when I paid cash. I really wanted to order more and different food after reviewing the menu online but these girls were not going to make it happen in a timely fashion. I first went to Coffman's in the mid 40's when Ray Coffman operated out of an old and small trolley car just to the left of the present snack bar. We would stop there on our way home from the Aero Theater. The ceiling was so low that Ray had to bend over behind the small bar and continued to bend over when he opened the new snack bar. I'm sure the hot dogs taste the same. They look the same from the recent photo's. At 83 and in Florida, I sure do miss the place. Thanks for the memories.
