A landmark in Middle River since 1947, Coffman's is a basic, no frills breakfast/lunch bar, women owned and operated. I remember my Dad bringing me here as a kid. They offer a limited menu but the food is good and the price is excellent! I had the breakfast special, which was a huge plate of hash browns, scrambled eggs, well done bacon and toast. All were perfectly cooked to order and in under 5 minutes. An excellent place for a quick but good lunch. Eat in or take out. They are famous for their hot dogs. I'll update when I return for those.

This review is for the Coffman's chili dog. Definitely one of my favorite indulgences. It's your standard hot dog in a sloppy mess of a bun filled with chili, mustard and onions. I am not a big portion person, but man, I could crush two or possibly even three in one sitting. They also have homemade soups which are pretty good, and I want to try their burger too. There are other menu items as well, posted on the wall above the cook's window. But I just can't get around ordering that hot dog when I am in the Middle River area. Service is always pleasant and quick. It is also very cheap so bring cash; there is a $10 min for debit/credit cards, which would be a lot of food! The space is an old-time lunch counter that has been around for decades, and that alone is worth checking out. And don't just take my word for it. I've heard this is a favorite spot for MASN analyst David Johnson, of Orioles pitching fame.

They have a steady flow of customers, many regulars, and of course passersby who see the cars in the lot. Many parked cars mean good food, and this turned out to be a treat. Go up the steps and see the basic menu clearly posted with prices, order at the screened window. Cash discount, but they do take cards and offer a military discount. The orders are prepared as given, and all is fresh. My husband wanted the 2 sausage sub...10", green peppers, and fried onions. It was slightly spicy-Italian sausage. This was the combo for about $15, which comes with fresh cut fries and a soft drink. They were kind enough to give a free refill of Pepsi products. He loved it and half came home. Oops, they forgot the fries, so I went back, and they made them up. I got the Pit beef, rare, raw onions, and horseradish on the side in a little cup. Huge and delicious. I melted into pit beef lala land. Then the daydream began, we ate at a picnic table out front, devouring the fries and watching the busy world go by. Time paused for us. Condiments, many of them, are available on a high bench opposite the order window. Yes, even malt vinegar for your fries! We will definitely be back.

I ordered 1/4 chicken white, plaintains, & yuca fries, which was about $15, which is a little high compared with some other places, but I was going with what was convenient in this shopping center as I was pretty unfamiliar with restaurants in the area. Incredibly, the cashier said we have bottled water for sale. I explained what happened at CAVA, and that it would be incredible if 2 restaurants in this shopping center gets 1-star on Yelp because they denied me water (I saw this CAVA next door was only my 26th 1-star ever, so quite rare percentage wise, less than 4% of my Yelp reviews). And also said that in addition to the 1-star, you aren't getting a dime from me from the food you made. The cashier was smart and said that I could have a bottled water. However, if their normal policy is denying water, this is why they don't get 4 but 3-stars. Food was pretty good. I've had some better Peruvian chicken places, but it was solid, above average overall. Sides were solid too. Portion size of the chicken was kind of small too. Considering their normal policy is no courtesy cup of water but gave me the bottled water only because I threatened no business & bad Yelp review, they got my one pre-tax sale of about $15 (which should've been about $13 or so), but I wouldn't return here.

If you're talking Baltimore pit beef, Chaps Pit Beef has been a staple for years, and after coming here for over a decade, I can confidently say it still delivers every single time. Their new location, just a stone's throw from the original humble shack, is a huge upgrade. You get the same iconic food, but now with a much larger dining room that actually makes it easy to bring a group without fighting for space. It's the best of both worlds. Same old school flavor with a more comfortable setup. On my most recent visit, I stuck with my go to. A loaded hoagie absolutely packed with pit beef, corned beef, sausage, and turkey. It's massive, messy in the best way, and exactly what you want when you're craving something unapologetically Baltimore. I paired it with a large order of fries, which were piled high and perfect for sharing. Decided to switch it up a bit and try the Holy Cod fish sandwich too, and that ended up being a sleeper hit. Huge portion of crispy fried cod, topped with fresh coleslaw on a soft bun. Not something you usually go to Chaps for, but honestly worth ordering. Everything came out crazy fast, which is always impressive considering how busy they can get. Quick stop at the condiment bar is a must. Load up on the free pickles, onions, Carolina Gold mustard, and that tiger sauce. The horseradish and mayo combo just hits different on pit beef. Bottom line, Chaps might not be a hidden gem anymore, but it doesn't need to be. It still outperforms most spots in the pit beef game and continues to be one of the best sandwiches you can get in Baltimore.

It didn't even have the smell or feel of a proper pit beef place. Customer service also needs improvement. The cashier taking our order seemed more focused on watching the baseball game on TV than helping customers.
