The staff couldn't care less about your eye health, only care about selling you glasses. Optometrist tried to convince me (20/20 vision btw) to get glasses, didn't even talk about my eye health not once, I had to ask about everything, a condescending optometrist with no manners. With that said it's hilarious that the store provides minimal selection of glasses. Going anywhere else is a better option. never quite had an experience like this. by the way this store is using an older method of testing eye pressure, which is nothing short of giving your eye floater wonderland. Recently bought two pairs of glasses (one regular and a second pair that convert to sunglasses) and I'm happy with them both, also exceptionally happy with the customer service at this location - they were super patient with me and helpful while i worked through many different options. After picking up both pair, I found I was having a hard time adjusting to an astigmatism prescription we decided to try, so they updated my lenses for me a second time without the slightest trouble, very friendly and understanding. Very upset been going here for years 1st the so called manager has a nasty attitude even gave my son an attitude then I ordered contacts in October 2023 came to see they expired in July 2023 then to replace them I bought 2 boxes 6 pairs in each them all of a sudden I get back 4 pairs & a loose one ( she said in case 1 breaks) not fair will never go here again & don't recommend this place anymore! read more

The staff was very friendly and helpful. They really took time to help me choose my frames and make sure I was happy with them. The doctor was also pleasant and made the appointment as quick, yet thorough as possible. I was a walk-in and appreciate that they were able to fit me in almost immediately. I'm only taking off one star because I was told my glasses would be ready in 7 to 10 business days, but it actually took two and a half weeks. I'm extremely happy with the finished glasses. The frames are beautiful and the lenses are perfect. I haven't been able to see this clearly in a few years. I would definitely recommend this location. read more

After 5 months and 15 hundred spent at two different Locations in Manhatten, where they told me to get everything new, and still could not see with the new. I was admittedly a little apprehensive because of the low rating (I don't have vision insurance and desperately needed the $99 deal), but I had the most seamless experience ever. I made an appointment online Friday for 1pm on Saturday. I walked in, was immediately seen by the optometrist. He explained everything to me including some tips to help my eyesight since I work on a computer all day. It took all of 10 mins. I was then showed out to the display case for the $99 frames & lenses deal (which had WAY bigger of a selection than I was expecting). The woman at the counter let me try on approximately nine thousand of them (SORRY), and patiently let me take selfies and send them to all my friends and family. Once I picked my glasses, she told me I could pick them up in an hour. I was charged $100 on the dot, no frills or weird charges. Sure enough when I came back a little over an hour later, my glasses were ready, and she even told me she put on a free anti glare, and gave me extra eyeglass cloths with a case. I asked her to write my prescription on a paper and I was out the door. I had an amazing experience here, and was expecting the worst. I'd definitely recommend their location! I was told my prescription glasses (that were covered by insurance) were going to take two weeks to be ready. But the lady who worked at the front told me if I paid out of pocket I can have my glasses ready in 30 minutes. I needed them quick so I bought a second pair, out of pocket, and let insurance cover the other pair of glasses I could keep in my car or something when I pick them up in two weeks. The next day I get a call saying they were ready for pick up. The lady scammed me into buying another pair when if I had known they just took one day to be ready I would have waited and not spent the extra money. Sketchy, shady business. Take your money to more honorable location. read more

I recently turned 43 and my eyes are not what they used to be. More and more I've been struggling to read messages, and practically anything on my phone. I finally decided it was time to get my eyes checked and for the first time ever, I needed reading glasses. I didn't want glasses at all, but they are a must at this point. I was not sure which frames to get, how they looked on me and struggled to decide which frames to choose. Well, Maria and Lucy at Cohen's on Steinway were absolutely wonderful at helping me find the perfect match. Im quite indecisive and these women were friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and patient(thank God) with me. I'm very happy with my selection and truly appreciate the wonderful assistance these two ladies provided me. It made the whole experience so much better. You rarely find customer service so genuine and top notch anywhere. They do a great job and I will be sure to return to see them again whenever I need to purchase more glasses. Gotta love the end of the year when I had a sh*t ton of money in my flex account and since I don't wear glasses/contacts anymore I figured I would help the lady out with a new pair of glasses and maybe some sunglasses for myself. I called ahead and was told that we could just walk in since the lady got her prescription from an earlier visit. The woman behind the counter walked her through a couple frames and pointed me towards the sunglasses they had. My lady found a set she liked and while she was deciding on a pair of shades for herself an older gentleman walked in. I guess he was a regular (can eyeglass shops have regulars?) because he seemed to know the woman helping us and asked a litany of questions-a lot of which were actually the same question; seriously how many times does someone need to ask when someone is working this week and from when to when the optometrist is in. She handled it pretty deftly, well, far better than I would have and he went away satisfied. She then laid out the options available and filled out the paperwork and we were in and out in about 20 minutes. I have to say, that so far, I was pretty satisfied with the whole experience. read more

I didn't need an eye exam, just selection of frames and lenses, and I walked out with my glasses less than 2 hours after I walked in. I tried on a million frames - but nobody was rushing me. If I could give Zero stars I would.These women there are completely rude, crooks, arrogant, sneaky and there definitely scamming the owner of his money....They sold me frames for eye glasses that were not only crooked but cheap as hell...the case fell apart as soon as I left the store (see photo I posted) They did not tell me there were no refunds until I paid....only store credit. They basically argued with me when I went back and said I was not happy with my glasses meanwhile the customer is supposed to always be right. They have such attitudes, it's insane that this place is still open. I could go on for a books length of a review but I won't. ...bottom line, DO NOT GO HERE! STAY AWAY!!! Go to American Eyewear instead where they are so nice, very reasonable with prices and they have 100000000 more frames to chose from that are super nice. Cohens definitely gave me some beat up Japanese (worth 3.50 to 10.00 max) frames, charges me 300 for them and to top it all off they definitely gave me the display. F this place and the dumb B*****s that work here. I'm giving this place two stars. One for the doctor (she was smart, friendly and patient) and the other for taking walk in appointments. However, the front desk staff have poor manners, and don't want to be bothered with work. They didn't call my insurance to verify benefits, they had me fill out a claim form (even though they are in network), they couldn't provide an email address to send them the eligibility information only a fax number, their selection was basic and the few that were brand or unique were about $350 to 500 for the frames alone. I decided to buy the lens only at the store and buy the 500 dollar frames online at $108 with tax and overnight delivery included. After I applied my out of network benefits I only paid $33 for the brand frame. I work for insurance so I was able to make this place "fit" my needs while I worked around the staff and poor service. I would not recommend it unless you are in the same position. read more

OHHHHH HO HO! This will be fun to review. So, last year I went to an eye doctor out in Colorado while on vacation who ended up completely botching my prescription for both contacts and glasses. He essentially switched left and right eye info and whatever, it was a mess. When I got back to New York, I called 1800contacts to inform them there was a problem with my lenses and they set me up with an appointment at Cohen's to fix the problem. In I went and had both my contacts and glasses prescriptions updated. After the exam (with a doc who was pretty good, and is *not* included in this review), I paid my dues and asked for my prescription. The heavier-set man at the front desk denied me my own copy. I asked what if I wanted to get glasses somewhere else and he told me I could buy frames elsewhere and bring them back to them for the lenses. Because I had gone through 1800Contacts, they could not release my prescription to me. I thought this was strange, but left with the intention of figuring that one out. (Turns out it is TOTALLY illegal. They *MUST* give you a copy of your prescription). Anyway, I was able to return my incorrect lenses to 1800Contacts and get new ones, so I assumed everything was hunky-dory. Fast forward a few months to today when I need to reorder lenses. I get in touch with 1800Contacts who inform me they do not have a copy of my prescription. So they call Cohen's who inform them I NEVER HAD A CONTACT LENS EXAM. Even though the whole reason I went was to fix the incorrect lens prescription, and it was freaking SET UP BY 1800CONTACTS!!! I explain all this to 1800, who elevated the issue. They called Cohen's back and basically grilled them until *SURPRISE* they coughed up my prescription. This is an extremely illegal practice. Be advised, do NOT leave this place without a physical copy of your prescription, regardless of what garbage they try to feed you. They just want you to spend way too much on their products. Forget it! I will absolutely never return here. read more

I'm strutting. I feel attractive, playful and confident. Not to mention I can see again! This was the best visit to the optometrist Ive ever had. The optometrist had a sense of humor. She's a real pleasant person with a sense of humor and she does her job well and quickly. And the sales rep was incredibly knowledgeful about fashion. Her suggestions were pure fire. I felt happy to let her take me through several great frame choices she had for me. She's very bold and very aproachable and, believe it or not, I had a lot of fun picking my glasses with her help. I had a groupon deal that gives you a free eye exam and $200 off your frame. I walked in and the heavy set gentlemen greeted me. He sat me down in their waiting room for my eye exam. I like their doctor she was really nice and professional. Overall I am happy with the service. But not with the pricing....i thought all their products WAY OVER PRICED. I had a $200 off and with that discount....I paid $600. The lenses were more expensive than the frame. Holy chippers....if I had know the prices were that steep and ridiculous I would have NOT purchased the groupon and come here. Their service was great...but I am not coming back here. Paid $600 with a $200 off deal?? that is ridiculous and crazy. Plus their selection of glasses werent that great...most of them looked out dated and very cheap. read more

The eye doctor was great! Thank you Dr. Smith you deserve 5 stars. If you end up picking a set of frames that you like they immediately up sell you to another pair at double the price. I selected a $200 frame and was directed to a $400 set. Add to that $250 for bi-focal lens and you are looking at $650. I backed out of the $400 frames and the girl behind the counter looked at me like as if I was a cheap boyfriend only buying a one karat diamond ring for my girlfriend. Later on that evening I backed out of the whole deal and they kept $50 for the examination. That was fair. I bought a pair the next day for $190 and that was with the eye exam. These corporate giants are corporate giants because most people think that more expensive is better. What would make a pair of glass frames $400 when they are made in China with slave labor and bought in bulk by the shipping container. I'm writing this with my new pair of bifocals from a mom & pop shop. WoW! I have learned my lesson yet again. Support Local. Thank you again Dr. Smith. read more

When I first started going there it was not bad.... but now the sales staff is terrible, contacts are overpriced, and they act as if you are bothering them when you come in. the doctor is very cooperative she's witty and knows what she's doing. As for the staff a little training won't hurt. I've been to many Cohen fashion stores. But this one seems very clueless. I used to go to the one on 14th and union square. They had so many options of the latest frames for my style under my insurance compared to Steinway.. So instead of buying new frames i decided to replace my lens.. As I was told that they would not scratch easily. (But that was a lie).. My problem currently is I called the location up. I was told they would call me within 5-7 business days.. It's been two-weeks not one phone call.. I've paid a little for my new lenses two weeks ago, but they still needed my insurance info??? Why If I'm paying out of pocket??? I spoke with a lady over the phone, she kept me on hold for nearly 15-20 minutes. Picked up the phone then hung up on me. Now when I try to call back the phone line has been off the hook!! I am unable to reach them. What's going on? The place is willing to take your money but what about the finally product? read more

The staff was very rude and not helpful at all. I went to get a prescription for my contacts, and after the test was done, with a very rude doctor as well, they said to wait to be called. The doctors and the girls at the front table were regularly talking about the new iPhones that came out, instead of talking to me. To add on, they were annoyed at my three year old brother because he was "talking too loud" and told him to be quiet. At one point, one of the girls put on headphones. My brother was sitting on the floor playing with his small toys, harming no one, and they said that he made the floor "dirty." Don't go to this location because they will be rude to you! read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. The owners of this location are crooks, liars, and thieves. I went in with a contacts prescription and when I gave them my insurance card, they said that my insurance only covered three months worth of contact lenses. I knew this was wrong, because I have great coverage and even purchased supplemental eye coverage through my employer to ensure my entire contact cost would be covered. I immediately called my insurance provider and they ensured myself and the store clerk that I am covered 100%. The woman stood there stunned and immediately said "I've been doing this for years and never heard of that". What a load of BS. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, so I put in the order and left the store. When I returned to pick up my contacts a week later the lady handed me the contacts and walked away to the back room. I have been wearing contacts for over five years and thought the amount of boxes looked small so I asked, "Is this a full supply?", and she confirmed that it was. When I went home I found out I had been given a 3-month supply of contacts instead of a 6-month. Trust me - do NOT go here. I will also be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. We don't want these types of liars and cheats running businesses in our neighborhood. read more

I have never gotten glasses here before. I went in at 10:15am and my glasses were ready at 6pm. Wow! They gave me a complete eye exam that was as comprehensive as any I have ever had. I live in Connecticut now and still drive back specifically to go to this store. The doctors are knowledgeable and fast, they have a wide range of frame options, and the staff are very helpful. First time at this location on Monday 12/14. Staff were really helpful, especially as I had difficulty moving around on crutches. The doctor was really personable, friendly, and engaging. She made the exam more pleasant, and I enjoyed chatting with her The woman at front was very patient and helpful, took her time with me to choose the right pair of glasses, bringing options to me so I would not have to hobble around the counters. They were ready in an hour, and I am very happy with my selection. The only suggestion I have is that the furniture in the waiting room and exam room, is extremely old and needs to be upgraded. Cloth chairs were worn and dirty, almost didn't want to sit on them, and the desk the doctor was using seemed ancient. It doesn't match the rest of the store which is clean and modern. Should be worth spending a little money to at least get new seats for customers comfort and hygiene. Aside from that, I had a great experience and definitely recommend this location! read more
