She got me in an hour after I called, and though the procedure was really invasive (scraping tissue off my eyeball...gross) and though I was a total punk and fainted, she was SO SWEET and patient...not to mention, quick. I absolutely recommend this woman, she's sassy and sympathetic...and gets you in and out really quickly. read more

Took 2 weeks to ask them for a copy of my receipt and now I have been asking for 10 days for a copy of my prescription. Unprofessional and unhelpful. The staff is the worst. I waited for over two months and then ended up canceling the order with my insurance provider. The staff is unserious and DON'T follow through with the order or the lab. I had to call the lab myself and they told me they never received the frames from the doctor's office to begin with. They also told me they had been calling the lab themselves and it was a LIE, the representative at the lab told me there were no records of it.They even stopped taking my calls. Dr. Asprogerakas's office has kept me waiting for my glasses for over 4 months now. Her staff simply do not follow through, and the one person in charge of shipping lenses and receiving from the labs barely shows up. The receptionist doesn't have a clue and won't help you, and the doctor herself, who is a good diagnostician, vanishes at the first sign of trouble. Now there's a good chance her office has lost my glasses completely. Add to this a lack of clarity for insurance billing, so upon my 3rd attempt to get my glasses there was suddenly an extra charge. Add to this when I came for my initial exam, on time for my appointment, two members of the Greek Orthodox clergy came in. Both the doctor and receptionist came out to kiss their rings, and speaking in Greek, bumped them ahead of me. I had to wait an extra half hour due to their preferential treatment, with zero explanation or apology. And I can't get a copy of my prescription to go elsewhere. I'm so furious with the clown circus at their office. With my insurance only allowing me new glasses every 24 months, they've effectively stealing several hundred dollars from me for a 2 year period. I've filed a claim against them with Davis Vision, my insurer, but frankly I want my glasses back and no one to deal with their crappy business dealings. read more

Do not go to this office. I have been a client for over two years because my insurance locked me into her but it's the worse. The doctor gave me the wrong prescription not once but twice and when I asked to be recheck again, I was treated with rudeness and disrespect. On top of it all I been waiting 3 weeks for a replacement glasses that I found out they never reordered for me by my insurance. When I call, her stuff is so disrespectful and puts me on perma hold. I asked repeatly for the doctor to call me and no response.I been wearing glasses that cause me major headaches and eye strain and this is the result i have to take to make a bad review. Yikes. Went for a new pair of glasses. The vision test was the shortest I ever received, which seemed weird. Sure enough, the glasses came in and were nowhere close to my prescription. Next attempt was using my old glasses as a reference. Prescription was better, but the way the lenses were seated in the frames was off. When I mentioned this, Dr. Asprogerakas started screaming at me about not knowing what I was talking about. She is extremely rude, both to all the patients I saw her deal with, and to her staff. Also, no paper towels in the bathroom or at the table where you take out your lenses?! This seems like the most basic consideration... trying to use a kleenex to dry your hands is unpleasant and shouldn't happen at a professional office, which this is definitely not. Have been waiting over 3 months for glasses. No one at reception desk ever knows anything! Nor are they helpful. You get yessed to death they say they'll call u back. And NOTHING. Had a TERRIBLE experience with the doctor. I went in to get a new prescription and the receptionist asked for my insurance card. I gave it to her but explained that I may not get coverage. She said she couldn't run the card because it's only a copy (NEVER been a problem with a doctor or hospital before). The doctor herself came out and YELLED at me for only having a copy, for it being in my dad's name, and for not knowing if the visit would be covered by my insurance. I waited 30 mins, with multiple people who had come in after me being invited in. Every time some else was invited in the doctor gave me a look as if I was being punished for not having the insurance information she wanted. Finally, after 30 mins the receptionist again asked for my Dad's social security number, because it's his name on the card, and I again told her I don't have it and I've never needed it before. I asked her when she thought the doctor might be ready and she said she didn't know. I said I'd had a very bad experience so far and she said she was sorry, that was just how the doctor spoke to patients. I left right then and there. If your doctor is rude and condescending from the minute you step in the door, how can you trust them to take care of your health? I do not under any circumstance recommend this doctor! This business practices poor service. Made an appt that was confirmed one day prior. Showed up on time and was told office was "running on time". Waited 15mins after the appt time I was given. The Doctor has attitude but quickly apologizes, it seems like she is smart, so if you are willing to sacrifice good customer service for good care, she might be the choice for you. They have a computer eye therapy practice there which is hard to find. Their staff is teenagers, and most are often unprofessional and disorganized. It took a month to get my order. Dr. Maria is the go-to for your eye care in Astoria! I had a persistent eye infection that is gone now, thanks to her. Dr. Maria's office is the model neighborhood health practice. After your first visit, her courteous staffers know you by name & treat you as a person. You are never rushed or 'processed.' Dr. Maria cares about you as a person, not just a pair of eyes. She takes her time with you, explains everything, & gives you all your options. Afterwards, her followup is ultra-thorough. Dr Asprogerakas is excellent and in all my years I never had a doctor that had me seeing like I had never seen before. The reason I don't give five stars is the service afterwards. Everyone is very nice, don't get me wrong but my order was wrong. The frame was incorrect and so were the lenses. Two weeks later my glasses are not ready and was told that because it's a reorder it takes longer. What???? It was their mistake! I work in an office on the computer every day it's been bad. If I could give negative stars I would not hesitate. PLEASE do yourself a favor and DO NOT go here. I took my husband and 14 year old son a few months ago, everything was fine, got a new pair of glasses with an update prescription. Move forward a few months later, since February, I have been calling non stop to get a copy of my husbands prescription because he lost his glasses (happens to most people right), we're willing to pay whatever fee required since its out fault. When I called (out of the dozens of times) the receptionist keeps telling me "We don't take your insurance anymore" I'm thinking "ok that sucks but whatever it happens" and i requested a copy of my husbands prescription so that was I can order his glasses myself online (I've done this before but I need his update prescription strength since it changed from last time), they said ok I will ask Dr. Maria to give you a copy and will call you back....I have been calling every other day, literately the same story over and over "Oh I forgot, or she forgot, or shes not in....so many excuses!" I'm wondering is she even alive? Go on vacation? The conversation ends the same way every single time "Ok give me your name and number and we'll call you back tomorrow" This has been happening since February! Something is going on over there, and I have heard from others patients and customers the same thing... I don't all I need is a copy of his prescription so I can go somewhere else, that is it! We didn't choose to stop them from taking out insurance, they did. And every time I call, its the same two receptionist and I know they remember me but start to act dumb and act like this is the first time I'm calling them, so frustrating. I was very impressed. The office is very nice and bright. Not crowded. The assistant, Ellen is so kind and I overheard her in the phone dealing with both a patient and insurance and she was so knowledgable and patient! Then Dr Maria wa also very nixed and personable with gentle bedside manner. I'll definitely come back here and bring my husband and kids for anything eye related. I have been seeing Dr. Maria for several years and she is very professional. After decades of going to eyeglass stores with roving eye doctors where they only want to sell you expensive frames and prescriptions were never right I came here. Dr. Maria is THE BEST!!! I think I read somewhere that she has an attitude, but I'm gonna have to 100% disagree with that. She's funny and engaging and she really knows eyes. My eyes were acting up so I went in to see her. I didn't even have the chance to tell her something was wrong when she told ME that I had a really bad infection. Do NOT recommend. Dr. Asprogerakas tried to refuse to give me a copy of my eyeglass prescription, which is against the law. I had to go to the office in person to insist upon it. She was very hostile and uncooperative - because she wanted me to purchase another eye exam from her. Also, when I initially saw her she recommended contact lenses that were not at all suited to my eyes and the problems I was having - I have a year's worth of contact lenses from her that are unusable. read more

THE most incompetent doctors office I have EVER had to deal with. It's taken me over 2 months just to get a new prescription, and then they tell me my insurance is covering my contacts and when they find out they were wrong, instead of calling me they ask my insurance to call me, because they don't even have the decency to call and explain to me that they messed up. How many times did they mess up? Oh god. So many times. The front desk associates never have ANY idea what they are talking about. They actually said to me "I don't know anything about contacts, so.." YOU WORK IN AN OPTOMETRIST'S OFFICE. Maybe you should learn something about glasses and contacts? Just a thought. Do NOT go here. Seriously the worst experience I've ever had with any doctor, and months later I still don't have new contacts. Now I have to go order through 1-800 contacts, which I could've done on my own weeks ago, if this office had known what they were telling me they knew. Awful. Just awful. Dr. Maria is average doctor. You feel rushed during exam. But her staff makes her look the worst. A glasses order has a 10 working days turnaround time according to her staff, but because I had an emergency replacement order they promised to expedite it. It's been over 2 weeks and they just admitted that they placed the order one week later and they don't know when the glasses will be done. My son's Holliday plans are ruined and Dr. Maria just lost my whole family as patients. I will take my business to Costco, at least they take their work seriously. read more

Ugh. I just paid $100 for two boxes of contacts, which I just found out would have cost me under $50 at 1800 Contacts.

I've been coming here for years and have always had a wonderful experience. The Doctor is super nice and patient. She even called my insurance co to see what my plan covered and then worked with my it to make sure I wasn't paying out of pocket. She also gave me tons of coupons and sample contact solutions. I would definitly recommend! The only complaint I have is on two occasions I signed in but ended up waiting an hour (like they forgot about me or something). read more

I have been wearing contacts for 2 decades, and always used accuvue and always had eye irritation. I just accepted that was how it was going to be. When I went to see Dr. Maria for the first time, she told me that I was allergic to the material in the contacts and she recommended a different brand. My eyes were so much better. I just saw her again (1.5 years later) and she remembered my situation, noticed my eyes were still mildly irritated and recommended another new brand. No other eye doctor has ever noticed or commented on my irritation or recommended a solution. I feel like my life gets better every time I see her! Not to mention I thought I was going to have to pay out of pocket, but her receptionist told me that my insurance likely does cover a visit but I need a referral. She explained to me what I needed to do and I was able to get a referral, get my visit covered and get a discount on my contacts. I mean... what more can I ask for? read more
