I made an appointment and arrived on time, only to find two customers were ahead of me. I'm not sure, but I think that appointments don't take priority over walk-ins. So I waited 25 minutes before being seen. My main gripe with this location was that from the moment I walked in, I didn't find the personnel at the counter to be friendly, engaged, or caring in any way. I know, it's a job, and maybe I'm old school but how about showing some warmth, a smile, maybe even eye contact when I walk up to the counter? As it turns out, the selection of frames was small, so I wound up not buying a pair of glasses here. I probably won't return to this location in the future. read more

3.5 stars - who knew an eyeglass store would require a check in line and a service line. I had an appointment with the eye doctor but got worried when I saw the number of people. it was just an endless sea of interruptions upon arrival but once the team managed to sort out who's doing what, the flow got better. Apparently I needed to be checked in before the eye doctor could see me as they needed to review my insurance to see what I'm to be charged (co-pays). I must say this location in the Bay Terrace Mall is ridiculously busy. It was also Dec. 30th so I'm sure many of us were running in for our "must spend" end of the year vision benefits. LOL I get it, we're all there for the same reason. So enough about the lines, once I was in and realized the sarcastic humor of my optometrist, everything else started to run smoother. Seems like they were 1-2 people short that day for counter service and the crowds unfortunately showed up all around the same time. (This was my first time here). The salesperson that took care of me was very apologetic for the interruptions and the back and forth as it appeared she was serving three to four people at once. I'm not one to criticize and knowing I wouldn't get the care I needed at that moment, I stepped out and said I'll return. I left my old glasses there to be adjusted and I know I still needed to shop. Grabbed a quick bite just a few minutes out and returned 30 minutes later. The store was much calmer and things were restocked back on the shelves. All was forgiven when I was given the time to try on frames and I appreciated that the salesperson showed me options in my plan vs going out of my coverage. She was great on making recommendations after she knew what I was looking for and though I picked out my own frames, she gave me a few things to think about as I was shopping. All were helpful. First of all Cohens locations are franchises so it's the Manager herself who is responding as if she wants to help by asking to email help@cohenscoptical. Fake response! I've sent several emails to help@cohensoptical, including the one sent in June attached below and no response to date. Since Cohens refused to stop the order and refused to grant me a refund, I had no choice but to pick up the glasses and they are unwearable as the lenses are popping out the frame and the Manager simply didn't care. Yesterday, I came in to fix my father's old but well maintained Calvin Klein aviator sunglasses. He was missing a screw and one of the lenses popped out. Two of the front desk ladies were extremely helpful and didn't even charge me to get this fixed within a matter of 5 minutes! Moreover, they also provided a free napkin wipe and spray cleaner for him which was super nice since he didn't have that. This place has a lot of issues, but it earns one more star for the affordable prices of its low end glasses. One time, I come here to get my eyes checked by the in-house optometrist and he gives a script to the store. But when I get them they have the wrong axis. I see my ophthalmologist (which costs money!) who confirms that the optometrist did not correct for my astigmatism on the script. I return to the store with my doctor's script and they do replace the lens, which is good. My suggestion: ask them to use your doctor's script. Another time I go and one of the clerks tells me that if I want to order the high index lens I must also order the polycarbonate option, even though they have two different prices on the fee schedule. I ask them why would there be two prices if you must get them together, but the clerk insists. Luckily, I had a coupon they sent me so I did not have to pay as much for both options. When I come the next week to pick up the glasses, I ask another clerk if it is true that I must pay for polycarbonate if I only want high-index. She said it is not true because high-index is superior to polycarbonate so there is no need to pay for both options (it's like paying for regular gas and premium if you choose premium). Then she added that it really doesn't matter in my case because I had the coupon. Sorry--incorrect answer! The correct response is, "I apologize for the incorrect information you were provided. What can I do to improve your experience?" Unfortunately, the people here are inept at customer service, yet somehow this place survives. read more

I have been doing business with this location for about 15 years and they treat me like gold every single time. Carmen is fantastic and even though I live 45 minutes away, I can always have my glasses delivered by mail in 1-2 days. I have also used these guys to repair my Ray-Bans and they did an exceptionally great job. They have fantastic selection at very fair and often below competitor pricing. I have a wider head than most people, so I like to try on 20 pairs before selecting one. These guys are super patient and make great recommendations. A few pointers to make your life easier. If it's too busy in the store, make an appointment to come back at a time that works better for you. Choosing a great pair of glasses should take time, don't rush the process and don't be impatient. Take your time, and if not possible the same minute you walk in, make an appointment and come back. read more

One of the Worst experience ever!!! First thing, as soon I got in the shop, the sales lady already was rude had an attitude, and I really felt uncomfortable, and I speechless. As soon I walked close to the glasses display, the same rude lady said to me: Don't even look at those glasses, you can't afford them!I couldn't believe my ears . The whole process gave me anxiety, couldn't wait to get out from that place!! From January, I asked for a copy of my prescription, and I'm still waiting....‍ At this point I didn't even think to go back, yesterday I went to the optical place in Target, College point, where I could notice immediately a huge difference. As soon I got in the shop, the lady said, how can I help you, then I was assisted by The Doctor that went above and beyond explaining exactly everything in a professional and detailed way and helped me with discounts and rebate for my purchase. The sales lady helped me on the rest of the purchase. So now, I can say the place i went in January is really bad, especially when I compare it, because I had to go to another optical center ti get the job done. absolutely terrible service and everyone knows this. we go for the convenience that we live across the bay terrace shopping center. these hags are way too comfy and cozy with their job security too the point that they are still there after all these years. we always confirm with our insurances to make sure all goes smoothly before going there. it is absolutely ridiculous how nothing is up to date. everything is written on index cards like it's the dewey system. they want you to pay upfront regardless of what ur entitled to w ur insurance. also, as 1st point of contact, a salesperson should never ever say, i don't know, i didn't take care of you, you are not my customer, the biller only comes to the establishment once a week or month, this is all useless information to the customer!! it's time to update ur employees and tools. i feel like i'm at the dmv 1970's. both women, the petite indian/guyanese and the spiky blonde w tats r just truly difficult people 2 interact with. always w the attitude as if u, the customer is at fault. i understand there may b a few difficult customers, but i know me, i am always prepared and i even call ahead, but once ur in there, it's a different story. read more

Very busy shop, hard to grab someones attention. Although they have a large variety of the most stylish frames and sunglasses, it cost a pretty penny being that most are designer. They did accept my insurance coverage which usually isnt much. My new tom ford frames cost me a total of $405, which includes the non-reflective glass and also some kind of glass that weighs less. Although expensive, the quality is high and i would recommend this store to others. My only suggestion to the staff is to improve customer service by greeting customers when they walk in and let them know someone will help them when next available. read more

This is not the first time that I've been in this store. I previously visited to have my glasses adjusted. Keep in mind, I did not buy my glasses from them at the time I came in for an adjustment they were more than happy to accommodate me. I was helped by a man name Louis that was a perfectionist and getting my glasses perfect. I went back in today because I needed new glasses and decided to check out the selection. Everybody that was behind the counter that was available said hello to me and I was helped by a super friendly girl named Sharon. She was extremely easy to talk to very helpful and had a great sense of humor. She had great taste and has a really good eye in picking out what will work for you. She spend a nice amount of time helping me pick out some frames that I loved, and was super patient with me.... not only did she help me pick out one frame but I ended up buying two! She's an amazing sales girl lol she does her job well !!! I'm not going to say that the prices are cheap but I think they are comparable to any other eyeglass store I've been to it all depends on the brand and style of frame you pick out and your prescription, anybody that wears glasses knows that everybody's price will be different depending on your prescription and frame that you choose and the quality of the lens that they give you. Sharon kept me very informed and told me exactly what she was going to do for my glasses and lenses and confirmed that We were both on the same page !! Luis came out from the back to take some measurements and as my previous experience with him he was very nice and professional.... once he was done with me I was just checking out my mew frames to be and I Noticed that one of the pair of glasses I picked out had a scratch on the frame and she instantly without hesitation Sharon said don't worry I will get you a brand new pair ( very professional and superior customer service). I don't pick up my frames for another week or so but I am really excited to get them and definitely suggest checking out this place. I did a walk in. Optometrist was very nice which is why i gave 2 stars. 1 star for how fast i got the glasses and 1 for the nice Doctor. BUT indian looking lady and the white lady that looks like a manager were super rude. I feel bad because the other ladies that work there. I wish I could give this zero stars. From the moment I walked in, I knew this was going to be a miserable experience. Three people behind the counter looked at me and turned their backs to walk away. No acknowledgement I existed or "hi, I'll be right with you." When I got to the optometrist, Bruce Orkin, it was an absolute joke. He shouldn't be practicing. He talked over me the entire time and was condescending. He didn't listen to a single thing I had to say or why I was there, didn't even introduce himself to me. Barked orders at me and told me all the reasons why my contact lenses were wrong and why I need to buy the more expensive ones, repeating, "I don't want Acuvue to sue me." ???? He took a personal phone call while I was in the chair, and he was condescending to the woman he was speaking to as well. I sat there and listened to his conversation with her about how he was having trouble logging into his account, and how "they must have representatives from a foreign country." The real kicker... he didn't even check my vision! He wrote me a prescription with 2/3 of it not even filled out and a half-assed signature that wasn't where it was supposed to be on the script. I had to go back in to ask what his name was because he never introduced himself and I couldn't tell on the prescription if it was even legitimate or if it had been signed. They also wanted to charge me $1,000 for an annual contact lens prescription and were clearly annoyed when I said I'd just take the script and buy my lenses elsewhere. The woman at the counter basically threw it at me when she realized I wouldn't be giving them any more of my money. If you're looking for basic social skills and a legitimate eye exam with a doctor who will listen to what you have to say, this is not the place for you. I don't think I got more than five words in the entire time I sat there with him. Such a condescending know-it-all who just wanted to take my money and get me out of there. I almost walked out before the "exam" was even complete. Not to mention the fact that he's filthy and his teeth look like they haven't been brushed in ages. Me and my family came here yesterday to get glasses for me and my daughter and inquired if we can use our 1199 benefit. As she called the 1199, she informed us loudly in my opinion was very rude and said we are not eligible to use it because we used it this year. She did not even try and ask if we still want to get glasses as we were willing to purchase some glasses even we got denied on our benefit. I finally got vision insurance through my current employer and its my very first time at any Cohen's establishment. I waited less than a minute for someone to assist me with my long due need of new glasses. One of the staff was free and she took my insurance to see how much would my insurance cover then Leo Gaw (optometrist doctor) called my name to take my eye exam. Holy moly my eyesight is so horrible over these years man. For the life of me, I couldn't read the last time #sadface and he gave Carmen (the one that was assisting my strong prescription). She showed me covered vs designers frames so I can try a varieties but I still asked for her opinion and I went with the blueish-black of TC Charton. Carmen showed me the breakdown of how much I have to pay and it was very clarify and understanding. Not bad for everything included the protective stuff for my glasses under 300 bucks "mama like"! She measured me and told me to come back in 45 minutes. Damn my mouth dropped as its super amazingly FAST yo! Explained things well. I love the fact they are opened late and eye glass lens can be replaced in an hour once the lens is there (in my case less than a day). This place is most convenient because it has free parking and 5 minutes from my home. I put up with their behavior once every few years when I need my eyes examined. This must be the worst experience I have ever had at a retail store. The Bayside NY location has a nasty unfriendly staff and had no customer service skills. I have Union benefits that I have used at this location many times in the past. This time I got such a runaround and was even quoted a price 2X what my union benefit stated and the salesperson just spoke down to me like she was doing me a favor. This is the worst Cohen's branch. The staff are rude to answer your inquiries. We went here for my son's eye and exam and contact lens exam, at the end of the visit they forgot to give us the eye glass prescription and we end up waiting for 3 more patient to finish to get the prescription. The name girl sharon at the front desk keep on blaming us that it is our fault, since we did not ask the doctor the prescription. My question is- what is the purpose of the eye glass exam? and does not stop but keep on blaming us! blah blah blah. She kept on repeating herself that she can not interrupt other patient to request the doctor the eye glass prescription, even we were not asking her to do that. In my mind she can always ask the doctor in between patient, but whats the point suggesting it to her, it seems she is not customer service oriented but instead repeating herself that we have to wait as we forgot to ask the doctor about it! wait for 3 patients to finish! Again, we end up waiting- as we have not choice anyway. We were patiently waiting, trying to composed ourselves to be nice and patient- up to the point- we got fed up on her repeating on blaming us not reminding the doctor. Again, terrible customer service. The Worst customer service. Walking in this location will just ruined your day. We end up completing the purpose of our visit, but felt terrible, treated badly, we walked out, feeling terrible. Simply - not happy! WE WILL NEVER BE COMING BACK IN THIS LOCATION! We all have a story and this is mine. I have been going to Cohen for a least a decade and the staff, Carmen, Ed, Luis, Kelly to name a few are ALWAYS super sweet , friendly and very accommodating . They all help me stay within budget with my daughter with so many different options and a financial option if needed. Now that sounds wonderful but that's really not my story. My story , about a year ago I for the first time purchased progressive glasses with Carmen , I just could not get use to them and couldn't see properly, but I use them about 6 months later They were completely useless. When I took my daughter to get her glasses I was ask, Carmen asked me how are you doing with your glasses I said "terrible". She immediately springs into action "i thought she was going to trip over her own feet and fall", and sent me to the back to get exam by Dr. Michael Pittelli the Optometrist. He spent quite some time with me trying to get me to 20/20 and he could not. Finally after further examining he tells me much to his surprise as mine that I have cataracts in both eyes. I couldn't believe I'm only 42 years old. I started crying and I left very upset. I followed up with a eye specialist about a month later and dr draga confirmed that dr Michael was indeed correct. Holy shit! I knew something was wrong but I never would have imagined cataracts. So now I go back to Carmen who helps me with glasses for distance and glasses for reading since I cannot use progressive due to my eye illness. Carmen was patience and help me stay way within budget with both glasses. I pick them up and again blurry cannot see. I called Cohen back about a week later and I was asked to come in. I get exam again with Dr Michael and with dr draga rx, Carmen and the dr Michael tweek my rx and re cut my prescription glasses. So my story is, if Carmen almost a year later didn't asked me how "I WAS DOING. ". My vision would have 100 percent gotten worst and I would not know why. It was the quick thinking and caring for her customers / patience that prompted a series of event where I was properly diagnosed and a situation was in place for someone like me. I hope I didn't bore anyone he moral of the story is when people care you get great customer support, no one couldn't of imagined that at my tender age of 42 that if would of been something like this but experience people in the business just know when something is just wrong.
