Jess is a good man and Dr. who has been kind and loving and given good care to my dogs and my brother's dogs, for over a decade.

EVERYONE PLEASE READ!!! SAVE YOUR PET AND DON'T GO HERE!! THIS VET KILLED MY DOG!! If I could take down this Vet's license and business I would! I have waited 4-5 months before writing this review and I cannot let people risk their pets lives by going here. In October of 2024, I had taken my sweet dog, buddy, in because he was not eating as much as he normally does (he was a vacuum and ate everything in sight). They diagnosed him with a "POSSIBLE" broken tooth, prescribed him Carprofen, and scheduled him for a surgery for an extraction of the tooth 2 weeks later. We had asked them to do bloodwork just to check all bases, THIS IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER! We called in again less than a week later to ask about moving the surgery closer because Buddy was not eating at all, which is not okay and he cannot be starved because of pain. The front desk staff was EXTREMELY rude and informed they do not do extractions often and we had to wait and essentially let our dog starve for another week. 3 days after that encounter, Buddy was too weak to stand and was taken to the emergency vet hospital (a different place, not this business) where they ran labs and found his kidneys were failing. At 3:00am that same night Buddy passed away, leaving our family with broken hearts that will last forever. The ER Vet bill was over $10,000, and when I called this Vet to confront them about missing his Kidney levels being so high on the blood work, they informed us that they never did blood work. The medication they prescribed him had an extreme risk for elevating kidney levels and causing kidney failure, which if they did blood work they would have seen. MEDICAL KNOWLEDGE: Any rotting or decaying of the tooth can go into the bloodstream and hurt the Kidneys. With that being said, this vet diagnosed my dog with a tooth issue, knowing it can affect his Kidney levels, then prescribed him with medication that can affect the kidney levels, and didn't do any bloodwork to make sure everything was okay including his Kidney levels. If this vet wouldn't have been so careless and did their job correctly, my precious Buddy would still be here. Unfortunately Texas has no laws regarding Vet malpractice, but I have filed a complaint with the board, and will be including a letter of assurance of malpractice from the ER Vets that did their best to help Buddy. It shows how bad this practice is when another Veterinarian writes a letter to give to the board about the malpractice of this awful business. read more

You aren't going to find a better team. We have been going to Coit North for more than 10 years. Dr Lovell and his team are always so accommodating and so nice. I rescued a dog a few years ago who was terrified of vets (assuming a fair amount of abuse in his previous life and big scar on his leg). He literally runs into this place! He snuggles up to them. That means the world to me that he is so comfortable there and knows he is being taken care of of. We have unfortunately had to have several dogs cross over the rainbow and they are so compassionate. THE BEST VET IN THE PLANO AREA!!! THE SWEETEST STAFF AND THEY TRULY DO LOVE YOUR PETS! When I took my dog to this veterinary, I knew I finally found a place that loves the animals just as much as I do. I had an older dog that needed constant love and care. This place made me feel confident that he was treated with love. I can't tell you how many times my buddy pooped all over their building during his last couple months. Not once did the staff make me feel guilty or more importantly make my buddy feel guilty. The staff understood that my buddy meant the world to me, and they were patient with me as I went thru the ups and downs of seeing your best friend's body slowly break down. I was the annoying customer that called almost every other day to see if there was anything else I could do to help my best friend. They always were patient with me and always accommodated me. When my buddy passed, the staff even wrote a hand-written note to help me during the grieving process. I can honestly say that this office gave my buddy a few extra months that he wouldn't have had otherwise PLUS THEY LET ME KNOW THAT HE LIKELY ONLY HAD A FEW WEEKS LEFT WHICH ALLOWED ME SPEND EVERY SECOND OF HIS LAST WEEK WITH HIM . First I want to apologize for not calling to cancel our appointment. We have 2 dogs and both had issues with their coats loosing hair and non stop itching. Went to 2 other vets and spent over $1000 all for nothing. Came to this Coit North Veterinary Hospital and the doctor nailed it on their first visit. Forgot the vets name but he knows what he is doing. We were about to leave for the Dominican Republic and kennels would not accept them with their condition. This pace is ridiculous I called to get prescriptions called in to Costco and they said I have an outstanding bill! For one thing you never get out of the place without paying so I'm not sure how that would happen! 2 the woman pretty much called me a dead beat for not paying my bill. I asked if they mailed me a bill and she said we don't do that! So how would I know we owe money? And it was silence! So I said so what your telling me is your holding my dogs meds ransom until I pay the bill and she admittedly said yes! Then said we don't call in prescriptions you'll need to pick it up I asked to have it email as I'm over an hour away . So I called today after she emailed me the invoice to make the payment and again asked her to email me the prescriptions and then she said that she couldn't do that cause it might go to the wrong email. I said you emailed the invoice and I received it. Same email so was so rude and said NO you'll need to pick it up. Ask her to get the prescriptions and my dogs records together cause I was coming in to pick it up because I'm taking my dogs elsewhere! I got there nothing was ready I told her to mail them and again she said no! I was very frustrated after all of her rudeness on the phone now this! I just want my records and prescriptions that I paid for! I was then asked to leave soooooo rude if they were treated like this they would also be frustrated!!! You shouldn't have to make a personal appearance for prescriptions for a dog you don't even have to for a person!! And the male vet is afraid of bid dogs!! read more

They're prices aren't "competitive" by any means (kinda on the pricey side) but they're good. So if price isn't an issue, this is a great vet. But if you're on a fixed income, (like myself) unfortunately this is not you're vet. I have 3 dogs, they chewed their tails until they made sores on them, large bleeding sores. For their treatment and meds it was $698.(that might not seem like a lot to some but for me, it's a lot) and they set up a treatment plan for allergy shots every 3 months (that's another $209). Have I been doing the shots? Yes! Yes, I have, I felt horrible that they caused those sores to themselves. Benadryl? they slept all day. So shots it is, until I find something more affordable. read more

Do not take your pets to Coit North Vet. My cat is very ill and possiblly at the end of his life and they don't have time to see him (even though they saw him 24 hours prior and know how dehydrated and in bad condition he is in) and they were refusing to give us his records with his lab work. When I told Emily we wanted all our cats paperwork and we were leaving Coit North for another vet she hung the phone and then refused to answer again. My sister called back and Emily told her it would take a week to get the records because they are too busy. We went to the office and sat and waited. We got my sick baby's records. Now I will have to see how long it takes them to provide me with the records of my other cats. Supposedly they will call me tomorrow when they are ready. Apparently, you have to schedule 3 days out at a minimum when your fur baby will get sick and need immediate care. They only have time to give pets annual shots. read more

We've been going to Coit North for about 6-8 years. In that time It has changed ownership 3 times. Since Dr. Jess Lovell bought out the previous owner/Dr. (which was recently) I have seen a HUGE change in this office. Dr. Lovell is genuinely concerned, the time he takes with us and our Bulldog "Belle" is simply amazing. He calls us daily to check on Belle's health, and offers a number of different solutions to try and help her. (Belle has skin problems) There has been a huge difference in the level of care that Dr. Lovell has offered us compared to previous doctors. Belle isn't better yet, and I'm not sure what her long term status will end up being. but I honestly believe that Dr. Lovell will do everything he possibly can to try and make her well. I'm extremely impressed with the staff I've met there after the most recent "change" as well. We were considering trying a different place, I just didn't feel like the previous owner/dr. cared that much. I've brought my dog to Coit North for grooming and laser therapies, and love the staff here. I've been to a number of vets in the Plano/Dallas area, and my dog seems the least scared here. I wish I had found them before his sister passed away. I feel like she might have lived longer if I had. They are all so gentle and kind. They aren't his usual vet, but when I've asked their vets to check him up, they've been super informative and helpful. My only gripe is that they are a bit far from me, but they make it worth the drive. read more

We have (3) dogs and a cat who are in their later years....but are doing fine....thanks to Dr. Lovell's assistance. We used to be right down the street from Coit North Vet (2) years ago, but moved 18 miles south on Preston and (20) other vet clinics away, and still choose to load our furry kids up and make the drive north. There is always something to be said about a particular vets overall knowledge, but a good "bedside" manner, (and Dr. Lovell has that going for him) goes a long way as well. My dog Roxi had a seizure a few years ago while taking her to a vet appointment at Banfield. It was very scary to witness. I immediately switched vets to Coit North Veterinary. Since then, Dr. Lovell and Taylor have come directly to my house every year to do the annual exams/treatments. I don't think they want "housecalls" advertised, but I have been so impressed with their true concern for Roxi I had to mention this. Roxi has not had a seizure since. She recently needed some oral cleaning on her teeth. But due to her chance of seizure, Dr. Lovell recommended something else done at home which actually turned out to be much less expensive for me. He showed his concern for Roxi's health first and foremost over the potential money earned had I somehow forced Roxi into their clinic for a dental procedure. I highly recommend Coit North Veterinary for every possible reason. Let's face it, having and caring for a pet costs money. They offer the best sincere possible care for your pet, while understanding and helping us the best they can with the expense part of it. read more

I originally thought that this vet clinic was a great deal for our family as they offered life time shots in a package deal and seemed to be friendly enough. NOT SO MUCH!!!! After using this vet for 3 years and continually asking myself why each bill was so expensive, I finally wised up and began calling other vets for apples to apples comparison quotes and found out the hard way that this vet clinic is overcharging 2x to 3x what other vets within a 5 mile radius are charging. I confronted the vet to only be passively pushed towards a refund of the overpriced meds he prescribed during our most recent $350 visit. ( many more outrageous bills went unanswered) . I would avoid this vet as fast as he avoided my in depth questions of his overpriced services!!! read more

When I first adopted my dog he was very shy and when I took him to see Dr. Lovell, his staff offered to watch him a few hours a week to help socialize him if I wanted! how nice is that. Dr. Lovell and his staff are all so friendly, both to me and my dog. I heard of him from a flyer at my apartment and am certainly glad that he is my dog's vet. They truly do care about the animals and always ask about them whenever I call. They offer grooming and boarding services as well. They did a great job grooming my dog and took care of her for the day while I was at work. I have not boarded her overnight here yet, but may look to do so in the future. We have been taking our Shelties to Dr. Lovell for several years and couldn't ask for a better vet. His staff are awesome as well and there doesn't seem to be the high turnover I have seen at a lot of vet clinics. Anytime I have been in Dr. Lovell really listens and then really takes time to explain whatever the issue is with the dog in great detail. Dr. Lovell and his staff are excellent and I would recommend them to anyone. The staff is always friendly and they treat your pets with love and compassion. A previous reviewer said that Dr.Lovell cares more for money than animals. While I know nothing of that person's experience, never once have I gotten that impression about the doc. I was new to the area and trying to find a closer vet. I used Yelp to search in my area and found Coit North had a couple good reviews. I scheduled my appointment and I could not be happier with the office or Dr. Lovell. The receptionist and nurse were very polite and you could tell they enjoyed animals. I was most impressed with Dr. Jess Lovell though. Normally when i visit any type of doctor I can the feeling they cannot wait to leave the room and I am just a name on a paper. I felt the complete opposite with him. He took the time to answer any and all of my questions, offered solutions and tips, and did the most thorough evaluation of my dog I have seen. He even walked back in after he left the room because he heard my dog cough/weeze (does it from time to time) and explained to me what could be causing it.
