Also, their technique when bleaching hair left strands so uneven. I didn't even notice the unevenness of my hair until I had gotten home. I had to go to a Akane the next day to get it redone because it was that bad. I called Jackie to try to get somewhat of a refund because I had to redo the whole dying process, but they said they would only give me $60... Pretty upset with my whole experience here, wouldn't recommend Edit: 9/13/2020 - I went back to get my refund... for half of the price I paid which comes out to 125... he said he would 80 and proceeded to tell me that no one looks at the inside of my hair so why does it matter that it looks like that... I am furious... I turned into a Karen for a good minute.... so mad... do not see Timmy...he gave me an attitude and said I was unbelievable for asking for a refund for half the cost I paid for when I had to go to another salon and pay 280 to get my hair redone correctly..... so mad....DO NOT COME HERE I REPEAT

This was my first time at Jackie Hair Salon and I love the way my hair turned out…read more I had bleached and dyed my hair in Korea about 4 months ago so my hair was heavily damaged making it look a bit messy. So I decided I wanted to switch it up by getting it straightened and cut (about 5 inches). Honestly, I took a leap of faith by trying someplace new because yelp reviewers rated this place high and because of their $150 straighten/treatment/haircut price. I'm glad I did. :) I called the day of to make an appointment for that same evening and was able to book an appointment for 4pm. They said it would take about 4 hours. I finished at 7:10pm (3 hrs 10mins). The girl who did my hair took the time to explain to me the process and why she was doing what she was...making me feel more at ease (This is my first time getting magic straight). Since my hair was long I was a bit nervous chopping off so much because I tend to feel that my face width looks a bit boxier. I asked for her to cut up to my collar bone with a very very slight bob angle from the back to the front so from the side view it doesn't look like one straight horizontal line. She could tell I was unsure so she cut a little longer than my collarbone and we worked out way up from there. I was so happy she did this because I always regret it when they chop so much all at once. The entire process was wash, cut, straighten chemical in hair, wash, dry, straighten out with iron, cut, put another chemical in hair, wash, put in treatment, treatment drying, straighten iron, and final cut. Only thing I'd improve about this place is maybe their music. (Only cuz music is so important to me.) Otherwise, the place is clean, there's parking in the back, friendly stylist, and a good price! I'll see how it looks in a week and update my post. As of now I'll definitely be coming back! :D

I received a text the day before my appointment that asked if I had any recent symptoms consistent with coronavirus/if anyone in my household had symptoms. Additionally I was provided with instructions on the salon protocol. On calling the salon, I was instructed that I could enter, I was asked to sanitize my hands, and had my temperature checked. The salon is using disposable gowns and is limiting hairdrying inside the salon, therefore you're asked to show up having washed your own hair. The appointment was quick and everyone wore masks/maintained social distancing inside. The haircut is wonderful (only $65, cheaper than what I've paid for comparable haircuts in the past) and I could not have felt more comfortable with the experience. The location has plenty of parking in the parking lot behind the salon. Excuse the appearance of the area near the salon as there was a fire in a restaurant next door. I highly recommend this salon, they are going above and beyond to make sure their clients are safe.

Four Years of Hair Growth Lost -- Extremely Disappointing Experience…read more This was my third visit to Kaie Salon, and unfortunately it will be my last. I want to give full context because I genuinely tried to trust this salon and even recommended it to friends. I am an Asian male with slightly below-shoulder-length hair. I had been growing my hair out for four years from a buzz cut and was looking for a layered cut with a Korean perm. I've had bad chemical perm experiences in the past that left my hair dry and brittle, which is why I was willing to drive 2.5 hours to find a stylist I could begin to build a relationship with. On my first visit, Kai advised me that my front layers weren't long enough yet and recommended waiting a few months before doing a Korean perm. I respected that advice and only got a haircut for a wedding. The haircut itself was very minimal, but I wasn't bothered because he seemed knowledgeable. On my second visit, I returned specifically for a Korean perm because my roots had grown out flat while the rest of my hair was still wavy from a previous perm. My goal was to have one consistent texture throughout and add some layering so that it sits on my face well and I don't look like Jesus. After the service, I honestly looked almost the same as when I walked in. Since this was my first Korean perm, I assumed maybe my hair length or weight affected the result and gave it the benefit of the doubt and decided to return for my 3rd and last time. On my third visit, I made it very clear that I wanted a shorter haircut while keeping my length, along with a Korean perm. I scheduled and placed a deposit for a Korean perm, but at no point during the service was I told that I was instead receiving a chemical perm. That alone is unacceptable but when I noticed the rods were not connected to the heating thing, it was too late. What made things worse was the haircut. I ended up with a mullet-style cut, which was not the inspiration photo I showed. While that wasn't ideal, I could have lived with it--until I washed my hair a few days later. That's when I realized how bad the cut truly was. The left and right sides were completely uneven, with random short and long sections that made no sense structurally. It honestly felt like the work of someone still in training. I was devastated. I had a New Year's Eve event that same night and ended up wearing a hat because I was so embarrassed. Over the next few days, feedback from friends, family, and coworkers confirmed what I already knew. The haircut was not salvageable. I ultimately had to go back to an undercut with a bald fade, losing nearly all of the hair I spent four years growing. This was never my intention, and now it will take a long time to grow my hair back again. To add to this, another friend of mine also got a haircut here and did not walk out with the style he asked for either. I'm extremely disappointed. I tried multiple times to trust this salon, traveled a long distance, and gave them the benefit of the doubt--but the final result was unacceptable. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this salon, especially if you care deeply about your hair or are seeking a specialized service like a Korean perm.

Have done cutting perm and coloring and it never disappoints. It works for me because he does not make small talks! I am the type that do NOT know what can work for me so I just specify the length and he does what he sees fit and it always turns out GREAT! I think some of the bad review has one cause: if you have very specific requirements you may not like the place unless you speak Korean since most stylists speak English as a second language and may not understand you perfectly. I do not speak Korean but I normally do not speak for more than 5 sentences in the salon~ Price is fair for the area.

Seeing my hesitation, I was told that if I did a perm haircut is free. If just color, there is a separate charge. Then the opinion kept changing on whether I needed straightening perm on top of that. I felt manipulated and uneasy. The color did not come out as I wanted - overall this experience was not great and I will never be coming back here again. Asks for prices BEFORE you start any services. Reading other reviews, changing prices seems like something this place typically does. I did not appreciate the dishonesty.

On the morning of my appointment, I realized I never received a text confirmation, so I called to double check. Unfortunately, I was told that my appointment details had never been saved. They did offer an opening later at 2:00 PM, which I accepted, though coming from NYC it was inconvenient and required rearranging my afternoon plans. When I arrived, the stylist was very friendly, but there was another mix up, he believed I was only scheduled for a cut, not a perm. While he was able to fit just the perm in, I think the time constraints led to a much looser perm, used larger and less rods than what I had requested. I specifically asked for a tighter style, similar to what I usually get. Afterward, I honestly don't see much of a difference between my hair before and after the perm, which is disappointing. I do believe they gave me a discounted rate, but the repeated miscommunication made the experience frustrating and the end product wasn't really what I wanted. It felt like a waste of both time and money, and I'll now need to have it redone elsewhere.

If you're looking for a place for Asian men's haircuts, this is the spot. Being from Los Angeles, I…read moretried different barbers around Manhattan and Fort Lee area after moving here and couldn't find anyone that could do it like the Los Angeles folks (at ssooniestyle, shout out to them and Ray) until I came here. Yusa was the one to cut my hair and I plan to go to him only for my hair needs moving forward. I actually came in with many things I wanted to fix in my hair. Not only did Yusa patiently listen to all of my requests, he even spent extra time to examine my hair type and head shape and explained his thought process as he cut my hair. By the end of the haircut, not only did I receive an excellent haircut for a very fair price, but Yusa also gave me a ton of advice regarding how I should maintain and style my hair. Cherry on top, he's also super friendly, interesting and a great conversationalist. In terms of service, scheduling an appointment by phone is simple and quick, but the stylists here are understandably busy and have packed schedules. I would suggest scheduling ahead of time and mentally preparing to be placed on a wait list. Otherwise, finding the salon was easy and the interior is clean and pleasant to be in. Overall, I would highly recommend this spot, especially if you're looking to get a trendy and modern Asian male hairstyle for a fair price compared to places in Manhattan.

TL;DR: Lowlights rock…read more I had been to Jackie's years ago when I used to travel more frequently to the northeast. This time I had some downtime and swung by for a trim. She asked whether I want to try something different and suggested lowlights - I had never heard of the term but figured they're like highlights, just less obvious. The first and last time I had had toned down my hair (highlights, actually) was 22 years ago, but the AI photo apps had all suggested recently that I go blonde, so I thought this may be a first step in that direction. She said how long it takes depends on the individual's hair but should take no more than an hour, and I was intrigued. I can do an hour. I told her I really don't want that overbleached, orangish yellow color, and she was on the same page. We were going to aim for a light brown, but that could mean any number of things, right? It came out a copper-bronze that adds just a touch of light around my face. The color looks more obvious in certain angles depending on how my hair is tousled or parted, and I love how it shows up more prominently in the under-layers of my hair and when I put it up in a bun! This is a result of her gathering my hair, then taking some away in a zigzag before bleaching what remained in hand. I really like that she made the bleached hair blend with my natural hair. Btw, she's pretty opinionated and has a lot of comments, but knows her stuff. If you've ever been scared about toning down your hair color, give lowlights a try! It's very affordable here even with the wash and cut afterward. I was here a total of 1:30 including my wash and cut, during which three people walked in. She had to turn them away since she was doing my hair; one person came back at a time she had told him. Glad to see that it's a happening place but that she takes walk-ins like I did :D
