Soooo I really wanted to love this place.... We were in town for a girls trip to see a show at the arena downtown and decided the menu at Colas was right up our alley. We were greeted by a lovely hostess and asked if we had reservations. We didn't, but there is always the bar and that's what she says as well. So we go to the end of the bar for four seats and immediately we were "tossed" 2 menus by a bartender who sauntered off to the other end of the bar. Another bartender asked what we wanted to drink and I asked for two more menus. It was obvious they were not happy we were eating at bar. So I thought it would be a good idea to spend more money and tip well. We ordered 4 appetizers and two alcoholic beverages as well as other beverages. Their attitudes did not change. No smiles, no friendly attitude. Nothing. The original dark haired bartender kept both her hands in her pockets and paced back and forth like a prison guard over the other 2 bartenders with a scowl on her face. She reprimanded one bartender for not putting a garnish on a drink and the bartender quipped back she was not finished. The dark haired bartender went back to hands in pockets not speaking to anyone unless spoken to. Not one lady was smiling. The food was mediocre. I had the trout with potato hash and did not care for it. The best was Brie Raspberry Fondue and Deviled Eggs! read more

I went to this place for a business dinner. It was selected by a coworker. The service was good overall. Since we were a large party (well guess to them 10 people), multiple wait staff was coming at different times. I tried their fried green tomatoes, calamari as appetizers - All good but not memorable. Calamari was more batter than the actual calamari. They also highly recommended their Oyster Rockerfort - I can't eat oysters but of the serving they brought (6), half of them were left. They were not that good based on someone else assessment. For my main entree, I ordered a Filet Mignon medium rare - it was very salty and cooked almost medium-well. The edges were well too sear and tough, so have to work around it to eat the inside portion. All of us that got the same dish has the same issue - steak overly cook. Overall, it is a nice place to meet with coworkers and have a few drinks and appetizers, but will not return for a meal. read more

Showed up without a reservation so we sat at the bar, which my wife and I really don't mind doing. We were debating between ordering a few appetizers or just getting entrees. Bar staff was extremely friendly and suggested we order two appetizers and share the founder entree - something we hadn't thought of. We did as he recommended and really really enjoyed it. We try calamari every restaurant we go to (that has it) and both agreed this is some of the best we've ever had. The oysters Rockefeller were also very good, but a tad expensive in my opinion. We are visiting South Carolina from Seattle, WA. Cola's was one of the top-rated restaurants in Columbia walking distance from our hotel. We were looking forward to our dinner at Cola's on Tuesday evening. My husband and I both ordered cocktails - him a strawberry mojito, me a raspberry lemonade. When I tasted mine it felt like there was no alcohol in it. So I waited several minutes for our server to come back to check on us and told her about it. I wondered if it was maybe the non-alcoholic kind that she got me since it was called lemonade. She said they don't have a non-alcoholic kind and they measure all their pours. I said ok and decided to order a glass of wine or something. She came back a few minutes later and offered to make it stronger. I said yes and thanked her. She brought me a shot of their raspberry infused vodka and it was fine after that. We then ordered a couple of appetizers- pimento cheese board and fried green tomatoes. Both were excellent. We wanted to have a nice long dinner and we didn't know how big the portions were. So we wanted to order our entree a little bit into our appetizers. We were asked at least 4 times if we were ready to order our entrees. We finally got a little annoyed and decided to order an entree to get our server off our back. We had the shrimp and grits. It was delicious. For dessert we had the lemon and blueberry cake with mascarpone cheese. The mascarpone cheese was spoiled - it was extremely tangy and seemed fizzy in a fermented kind of a way. The cake was doughy and lumpy. We were sad that a mostly nice dinner had to end on that note. We did not inform our server after our experience with her. Then the bill came and I saw that she had charged me $7 for that shot of vodka she had got me for my cocktail that did not taste like it had any alcohol in it. She had made it sound like it was complimentary and they were trying to fix my drink. So we ended up paying $18 for a mediocre drink. I asked her about the extra charge and she told me it was for the extra shot I ordered. I did not. It was offered to me. Anyways we did not make a fuss, paid the bill and left. But our experience did not leave a good taste literally and figuratively. That night both my husband and I had an upset stomach and it us took us about a day of our vacation to recover. (The table next to us had ordered the exact same cocktail as I did and had the exact same reaction- they called it non-boozy.) read more

We attended a couples' dinner sponsored by Wounded Warriors last Friday night (3/11/22). This was our first time dining at Cola's and we had a wonderful evening. The hubby and I were very pleased with the amazing food, exceptional customer service and awesome venue. WWP made an excellent choice for our evening out. The two servers managed to take care of all 32 of us like clockwork. They were very thorough and professional in taking everyone's' order, delivering all three courses and keeping our drinks filled. Unfortunately, we failed to take pictures of our food. For his first course, my husband chose the Shrimp with Risotto cake and I chose a salad with blue cheese vinaigrette. For our entree, he chose the BBQ Glazed Salmon with grits and sautéed spinach and I chose the Filet Mignon of beef, roasted golden potatoes and sautéed vegetables and we, both, chose the Chocolate Torte for dessert. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The entire dining experience was 'deliciously decadent'. First time, but most definitely not our last! read more

Cola's had been one of our favorite downtown Columbia restaurants. Recently the food seasoning has been a bit off for our liking. The seasonings have been too sweat for our tastes. I have been twice in the last month and both times the entre' I ordered was too sweet, hiding the natural flavor of the protein. Last night I had the pan seared flounder with apricot shallot glaze and my wife had the glazed salmon special. Both of us felt the glazes overly sweet and overly applied for the protein with which it was paired. Also her grits were too sweet as well and my linguine vegetable medley was boring. We are disappointed because we believe the food quality has declined recently and unfortunately we will not be returning anytime soon. The ambiance and service remains great, however. Cola's, please reconsider the balance in your seasonings. read more

Always enjoy this restaurant and it seems like it's actually getting better. We celebrated an old friend's birthday and the service and food was outstanding! Our waitress was responsive and helpful with menu suggestions. All of our meals from the apps to the entrees to the desserts were prepared well and just as we ordered. However, you're out of beef for a burger but you have 4 beef options as specials then tell us it will be $12 to dip out some risotto as it is already a menu item as a substitute because we didn't want grits! I'm sorry it's Saturday night on the biggest game day night and you're out of 30% or your food and then over charging for what you can accommodate with! The ambience is nice. I normally don't eat the bread at restaurants but their roll was soft and the olive oil was quite yummy. They mix their olive oil with herbs and asiago cheese. Service was on point and the food was delicious. From time time I walked in to the time I departed, I was met with nothing but smiles, warm greetings, and good ol' southern hospitality. While waiting on my main course, I was given generous pours of wine and some bomb bread and olive oil; refills were waiting on me the moment I finished with the current glass I was drinking / the current loaf I was eating. As for my main course, The Wagyu Burger was one of the best burgers I have ever experienced. All the ingredients were fresh and everything tasted just right. This is an exceptional spot for a date night or special occasion! The service, atmosphere, and decor were all great. The average dish is approximately $30 so it can get pricey. We ordered several appetizers to share - deviled eggs, shrimp dumplings, and okra. The deviled eggs were overcooked from being fried. No complaints from the dumplings but the fried okra topped with feta cheese was my favorite. For our main dishes, we ordered the poached pear salad with added chicken and the snapper special. The pear alone was delicious. and the star of the salad. The snapper was fried, crispy, and moist. The sauce that it came with was not anything special but it was topped with lobster meat so that was a big plus. I finished my meal with the bread pudding. You get a huge piece and it did not disappoint. Only some small mishaps keeping this from being 5 stars. I would consider this an option next time I am in town. read more

I've never left a review before. But this place is worth talking about! I took my friend here for her birthday. Before hand I booked a reservation in advance (because of COVID). We started off with a drink called Cola's 76. There's champagne, fresh strawberries and I believe a splash of vodka. My friend and I had 2 of these each. Let me tell you.....by the end of meal I was feeling mighty fine! Now for the appetizer, I had the bbq pulled pork eggroll with this delicious BBQ sauce and Coleslaw on the side. Yall, I don't know who decided to put pulled pork in a eggroll.....THANK YOU! The flavors of the BBQ sauce, the crunch! This was the absolute yummiest eggroll I've ever tasted! Moving on to the entrée. The braised beef was falling apart as soon as soon as my fork hit it. A knife wasn't needed at ALL. The Parmesan grits was a surprise! I wasn't expecting so much flavor. Especially when you dipped it in the braised beef gravy. Mmmm mmmm! The carrots were also seasoned with flavor! You know typically some restaurants get lazy with the veggies and think you wouldn't care if your veggies has flavored. Well, I care! I wish I had room for dessert. Cola's is a cool upscale bar which is located in a restored 1930's RC Cola bottling plant. It's eclectic atmosphere and exposed brick walls make it a really interesting place to hang out. They have a great wine list with lots of familiar labels. You may also bring your own and pay the $15 corkage fee. I was here with a group of 12 and they were able to handle our group efficiently. I tried the following items: -Oysters Rockefeller - cooked perfectly and topped with rich creamy butter sauce and parmesan cheese. -Caesar Salad with Anchovies - fresh and a good-sized portion -Whole Crispy Flounder - this was absolutely delicious. The crisp skin and soft flesh was perfectly prepared. The apricot shallot sauce went really well with the fish. Awesome. -Almond Basket - vanilla bean ice cream, covered in fresh berries was delicious -Strawberry Lime Sorbet -. Had a bite of this and it was refreshing and light. When I arrived at the restaurant, I was a little nervous because it looked like it was closed. In fact, we followed an elderly couple in because the place looked shuttered. So, don't be fooled; Cola's is open and you won't be sorry you went. Cola's was a dining experience. I ordered the almond-crusted tilapia, with basil cream sauce. The sauce was one of the best sauces I've ever had on fish. It isn't a pretty sauce or presentation, but it more than makes up for in flavor what it misses on presentation. It was quite possibly the best piece of tilapia I've ever eaten. Others in my group had Spice-rubbed half chicken and seared scallops. We also had the blood orange martinis. All-in-all what we experienced was an incredible dining experience, with fantastic service. I'll be returning to Cola's when I'm next in Columbia. read more
