BLUF: The cost of ice cream treats at this location has far exceeded its quality. The ice cream is still tasty, but to be honest, it's no longer anything special. Quality control is lacking. Location gets crowded & not a great place to hang out & enjoy your expensive purchase. The only time I ever go to Cold Stone is when I get a BOGO, and it's still expensive even with that huge help. The ice cream at this location seems to always be too soft & melty, so by the time you get your creation, it's kind of like a cup of glop. A $10 milkshake should 1) not be watery and 2) not have a film of cream on the top that they pass off as whipped cream. Seriously, it was just a layer of film sitting on top of my watery milkshake. And, the manager/owner? Well, while at the register ringing up transactions, was allowing these cups of glop & watery shakes out the door with no "repairs." To me that doesn't convey pride in your business or quality of products or service. Methinks this location could benefit from some evaluation to actively implement improvements in quality in service & products. It's no longer like the cheerful, silly Cold Stones of the past which is fine, knock out the silly, but at least staff should leave your customers feeling like they had a great experience at your shop instead of being face to face with kids not knowing what to do, don't thank their customers, and aren't consistently creating ice cream treats that appear delish & awesome. It's an ice cream shop where you usually go for an enjoyable treat. Every been here twice and always experienced great service and amazing ice cream! There's even outdoor seating. I love stopping here after visiting a couple of wineries and distilleries to get my ice cream fix. The server was really nice and let me do a "kids" with the new chocolate cake batter with ganache flavor AND normal cake batter with brownies, sprinkles, and heath bar. It was sooo good, but not enough! Naturally, I went back next week and upgraded to the "Like It" size and added cookie dough and oreo, which was overkill. I think I'll just go with the brownie and sprinkles next time. It was a different server and experienced equally good customer service as she asked if I wanted both flavors (new chocolate cake batter with ganache flavor AND normal cake batter) side-by-side, which I wish I had taken her up on that. The waffle cone was a bit too dense to eat. The plain one had a nice subtle cinnamon taste while the one decked out in chocolate and sprinkles was too thick. My experience at Coldstone was less about the service and more about the workplace. There were 2 teenage workers doing everything there, while the manager/shift lead was sitting back on his phone. I was there for a while eating, and the whole time I saw only the 2 workers serving people, making ice cream, and ringing customers up. Watching the guys at this store try to mix Ice cream is slightly entertaining but very frustrating at the same time. Entertaining because it makes me wonder how can you be so bad at such a simple task. Frustrating for the same reason as well. I've given it 3 chances and every time, I come out of the shop disappointed because they just don't know how to scoop or mix toppings. Portion sizes are not consistent, mostly messy attempts to get ice cream in a cup the realizing they scooped too little so they go back and spend another 5 mins trying really hard to scoops more ice cream. On a hot day like today, I was especially craving some cold ice cream from my favorite spot. However, I was extremely disappointed when I walked into the store and it was unpleasantly warm. I was concerned about the quality of the ice cream due to the heat, but I was also genuinely annoyed at the fact that the store temperature didnt feel any different than outside! The store is clean, and the staff was fine, but cold stone's quality has drastically decreased from back in the early 2000s when it first came out. I was so excited to see they this location offered curbside service during the quarantine. The instructions said to call when we arrive. This location needs work. Their through put has got to be awful. I came here on a random weeknight about an hour before close and not only was it hot, but we had to wait in line for at least 20 minutes. It's not a huge store so for that many people to fit in and be stand still was god awful. They had several people behind the counter but very obviously no set game plan to function quickly and efficiently. We actually left at one point to run over to sweet frog to find it was closed and came back and rejoined the same place in line we were in before. I think staff could use some training or sense of productive functionality. These places aren't the cheapest option for your sweet tooth fix, so to have to go back and forth in line questioning whether hopping to Harris teeter would be a better option is pretty disappointing . I would go back again, but maybe on a day where I have ample time to deal with the extremely slow process. Update: decided to stop in this night and the red head with glasses, quite possibly the manager as she was the oldest in the shop was so incredibly rude at check out. She spoke to myself and my friend in a condescending tone when simply asking what we had ordered. Customer service is a disgrace. Treated horribly! Ordered ice cream for curbside pickup online. Took it home and first off not a single one was made correctly. 2 had the wrong mixins and 2 were missing mixins. Additionally I have a 5 minute drive home and they were all melted and soupy. I called to let them know and the shift manager who answered the phone apologized and very nicely agreed to either make new ones or refund it. I told her just to refund it. Got a call back an hour later and apparently the store manager won't refund it unless I bring the ice cream back! They claimed "it's the policy of this cold stone".
