We happened upon Brennan's completely by accident after getting out of the car to check out a mural. We stopped in for coffee, started chatting with the owner, and she suggested that we go check out another mural nearby. So obviously we did. That mural led us to THREE more, and suddenly what had started as simply stopping to look at some art turned into this completely unplanned, ridiculously fun date exploring murals and places we never would have found otherwise. And the coffee was so good that what was supposed to be a random stop has now turned into us coming back every morning since. The drinks are fantastic, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the kind of local hospitality where someone takes the time to say, "Hey, if you liked that, you should go see this..." is exactly what makes discovering a small business so special. Brennan's didn't just become part of our date they helped create the date. Five stars for the coffee, the kindness, and for accidentally sending us on one of our favorite spontaneous adventures.

After a couple of trips up there, I found BJ's and the experience with them was as close to perfect as it gets. First, the staff, including front-liners Ronda and Elizabeth, were stellar. They were pleasant, knowledgable, cooperative and willing to provide whatever it was our daughter desired and that was just in the planning stages. They proved to be problem-solvers along the way with both the catering and the rental of all of the equipment, tables, chairs, pews, bars, tents and the like for an outdoor wedding on a beautiful Northern Michigan lake. Weather was a factor on set-up day, including rain and hail, but they persevered through it all and on the big day, BJ's had so many people there that it was astonishing. Everything--and I mean everything--went off just beautifully as our daughter and her new husband, together with family and friends, had the times of their lives in an evening that won't soon be forgotten. Guests went out of their way to let me know how good the food was and everyone celebrated well into the night. The BJ's staff was there and on each little issue that arose, e.g. running out of vodka whereupon they dispatched someone to the store. Moreover, all of this for 200 guests did not cost my life savings. Everything was spelled out in advance and was reasonably priced in my estimation. I would recommend BJ's to anyone for any sort of event and if I had any more daughters (please don't jinx me), I would go back to this company without hesitation.
