This is our best donut find, so far, for Northern Michigan. Unlike Tim's around the corner, they use a good amount of filling on their lunch sticks and eclairs. They have a pretty decent variety of doughnuts in addition to other guilty pleasures like breads and cookies. Buy everything fresh made today or off the day-old rack. You can also fill out an order form and return another time. The prices are in line and the people are friendly. The shoppe isn't very big but I've never seen a large crowd. We did not have a good experience. The staff did not seem to care that we were there. They seemed apathetic towards us at best. They were quite short with us and seemed impatient while we took a few minutes to decide what we wanted to order. We used the phrase "Boston creme" when referring to one of the donuts, and they acted like we were the stupid ones when they didn't understand what we meant. They also just kind of tossed our donuts into the bags. The donuts ended up getting all sloppy and icing was everywhere. The atmosphere was super chaotic- we must have stopped by at a busy time. The checkout system was confusing. Their staff don't seem to understand how the card reader machines work. The donuts were pretty solid, which is why we're leaving more than one star. They really take the "cop" part seriously- they make sure every customer is treated like a criminal! read more

Finally got to check one of these places out! Service was great! I ordered the peanut butter cream long john and a Carmel iced Pershing. The long john had to weigh a pound. I'm not even kidding. I've never had a long john with that much filling before!! I couldn't finish it I ate the maple ice Pershing the next day and it was still good! We also got a molasses cookie, which was giant. It was okay, but not the best I've had. So many donut choices here and was hard to decide! They also had breads and cookies to go on the side. I support men in blue and this is a nice donut shop. There is an excellent variety of donuts. I had an elephant ear with a coffee. Don't expect Foo Foo coffee because there aren't any on the menu. However, flavored creamer and sugar packets will be in the far left corner of the counter. Actually think that they are a bit pricey, but for a clean shop and sparkling clean, gender specific bathrooms, they absolutely get my top stars. I can't help it, I miss sitting at the swivel counter seats, having my coffee refilled a few times while chatting and having people crowd in to buy a couple dozen donuts for coworkers but these places have all changed. I am old fashioned now as are some of the memorable places I've enjoyed. read more

If this is what they serve in prison then lock me up! Some of the best donuts I've had in my lifetime. These boys in blue know their donuts and it shows. Everything we tried was super fresh and delicious. Also they are big boys, so don't overdue it. Service was quick and friendly and the shop was very clean. Not many choices up here for doughnuts, so was excited to see that there was at least a place nearby that had some. Unfortunately, they are mediocre at best. Doughnuts are very dense, not a lot of options. Surprisingly, doughnut holes are only available once a week and are over $4 for a dozen. "Back home", there are 100s of independent shops holes available at all tines, perhaps for $1.50. read more

Mediocre at best. Don't get the hype... I actually threw them out bc they weren't worth the calories. The donuts are only a $1 from 4:00 PM to close, so that's a good deal but I just wasn't impressed. Not BAD but that's it. I've tried a lot of glazed old fashioned and this one lacked flavor and didn't have that crispy outside/soft inside combo. Just bland. I was excited for the rose bud bc I love cherry flavors but again... just fine. Nothing special or that I would get again. I wouldn't stop back. read more

'Ello chaps! It may be illegal to give this place a bad review, but I'll plea down to a misdemeanor. Here's the thing. I love the concept of this place. The humor, the kitchy stores and lingo, the doughnuts, the photo ops and t shirts. At the end of the day, success is all about service and the product. Service was good, but the boston Kreme style doughnut... just... didn't do it for me. It tasted a bit "aged" not quite fresh, but hey, I rolled in and the place was quiet as a mouse so maybe they're not selling as well in Gaylord. Maybe it was just a slow day. The doughnut wasn't bad, but in a match up between Cops and Doughnuts and Dunkin Donuts, I think DD wins. read more

I have a thing for cops and doughnuts so I was happy to get to visit this location. Some of the doughnuts can be a bit on the sweeter side, which is fine as long as you have a friend to share with. That's how I felt about the peanut butter stuffed lemon frosted doughnut; the fritters on the other hand are pretty good and not as sweet. The cafe area is a little drab, perhaps better to just pick-up some doughnuts rather than eat there. read more

I wish I had gotten the name of the man that helped us, but he was the most patient man! Wednesday, February 8, around 3pm. We came in with our 4 yo grandson. He CLEARLY did not understand the concept of picking out a couple of donuts! To top it off, a man came in who started a conversation with my husband! So both of them were preoccupied, my grand was picking out all the items he wanted in the store, and the poor man behind the counter didn't know what in the heck he was supposed to do! Anyway, the coffee was delicious, we greatly enjoyed the experience with our grand, and my husband made a friend. The donuts were GREAT, and I kept one of the long Johns outside in our truck, and it tasted fresh after 6 days. A memory that will stay with me for a long time!! read more

It's good fresh doughnuts, what more do you need? They have coffee there as well, but not lattes /specialty coffees.

I've been here a few times with the kids. Love the daily freshness, they don't skimp on the fillings that's for sure. The young lady, not sure of her name, she is such a sweet lady, friendly and really makes you feel welcomed. read more

Every donut is unique. I had a chocolate long john with white cream. It may look like you need to go for a run after this donut. But it's very light and just sweet enough. Great Staff shouts out to Cory and his wife. I told all my friends. These shirts and the look about the place is a great time. Make sure you get your mug shot. read more

It is NOT a trip to Michigan if we don't go to Cops and Doughnuts. We usually go on the way TO our camp and also on the way BACK!! We love the filled doughnuts.....white creme, strawberry, raspberry, and blueberry are our favorites. They are big and they are loaded! The fritters (cherry or apple) are delicious if you don't care for icing. They give you a baker's dozen........we have trouble limiting ourselves to 13 but it's a huge box of goodness so we manage! The doughnuts freeze well if you have the discipline to stretch out the treat. read more

We moved to western MI and we're excited to see a donut shop while exploring. We wandered in and got a glazed donut, rice crispy treat, and a sugar cookie. Our first clue should had been the staff. They were very curt and didn't seem very interested in our being there. The store was not busy so I'm just putting the blame on a poor attitude. Oh well, I was still excited to finally have a real donut rather than one that came from Walmart. I bit into the donut and was immediately disappointed. It was thick, dense, and hard. This thing was like eating an old loaf of bread. Strike one! On to the rice crispy treat....it was "okay" at best. Not near as good as homemade and not even equal to the store bought ones in the blue foil wrappers. Strike two! Who can mess up a sugar cookie...right? This thing was as hard as a scone. I was expecting something close to the ones you can get in the big box stores, but we got a concrete frisbee instead. Strike three!! This was not a good experience and we've had our fill (or lack there of) of Cops & Doughnuts. All I can say is that they had better hope Krispy Kreme doesn't come to town. read more

Still looking for apple fritters loaded with apple chunks... I had high hopes when first seeing the large and luscious looking apple fritters, just begging me to take them away. Sadly, my seemingly endless search will continue. Large? Yes they are. Lucious? No so much; for me, they're run-of-the-mill average; nothing was bad about them, just nothing special either. The service was adequate and the coffee was average at best. On a positive note, I noticed that pasties are offered! Maybe next visit I'll try the pasties. read more
