Okay this is ridiculous. I have been going to this location for 10 years. And over the last 2 the service has Consistently and Blatantly got worse ! There is only 1 employee that consistently give me an Excellent experience every single time without fail. Then this happened. I never complain about food related things. First, the original owners sold the place to a family that doesn't seem to understand basic hygiene. It's disturbing in the summer with the heat and I watched a kid use a rag to wipe the floor then use that same rag to wipe around the ice cream bins. Barf. Second, how in the world is a child size ice cream with 2 small scoops $12.00?!? This place was always pricey but at least it was clean. Now, when you go in during the busy season- see how much attention anyone is placing on cleanliness. I've worked in the food business for years .I would be shocked if they weren't written up on multiple violations.its a shame. It shouldn't cost $45.00 to get a family some ice cream cones. But they make all their profit June- Sept and that's how they survive. The rest of the year it's dead so they gouge you to pay their bills for the months no one wants ice cream. Always makes me think if people keep an eating establishment this dirty- what do their homes look like? I can't imagine! Try getting some clean color coded rags and mop the floors. August is a great time for ice cream, and my experience here this week at this Cold Stone Creamery was top notch. It is located in the World Gate Center in Herndon along with a host of other establishments. Not only was my ice cream awesome, as Cold Stone always is, but I enjoyed people watching as folks were out and about also enjoying the summer evening. The store was clean and inviting. Cold Stone staff were kind and efficient. I wanted a slight change to my order: I didn't want the brownie in my Chocolate Devotion. He suggested a further change: shaved chocolate instead of the chocolate chips. I loved it! Of course, it wasn't truly a "Chocolate Devotion" anymore, but it certainly was delicious and the novelty made it even more delightful, and the server's personal attention to detail and service made my experience more enjoyable. read more

This place is a disaster zone of epic proportions. I remember when they first opened many years ago and it was a great place to take the kids for ice cream. We stopped by after dinner recently and when you walk in you still smell the typical cold stone ice cream smell but it is mixed with the smell of a stinky bathroom. As you walk to the back of the line you realize the smell is probably coming from the bathrooms...and then you see the giant mouse/rat traps prominently positioned right out in the open. I can only imagine what is crawling all over the marble slabs at night where they mix the ice cream. Unfortunately, this Coldstone location was not clean - there were flies near the toppings, bathrooms were not unattended to, the glass windows (both at the storefront and near the ice cream) were dirty. As others have mentioned, the employees seemed to be untrained. The portions were smaller than what other stores typically give, because they left a lot of ice cream unscraped on the slab. At the time, they also were not offering smoothies nor did they have cake or waffle cones available. We did not receive a receipt after we paid. And we will sadly not be returning to this location. read more

Up until tonight, this was the most convenient Cold Stone so we overlooked some customer service issues. However , tonight we walked in, and not only was the store itself disheveled and dirty looking, but the staff behind the counter was setting up to help a group of teens that took their shirts off or pulled them way up to use as "masks". I don't want to deny others their ice cream fix, but last I checked a shirt wasn't optional in a food service establishment, and especially now it's not "shirt or mask". A customer needs both. We walked out. The staff clearly has not been trained on food service standards or has not been empowered to enforce them. I placed an order online for a quart of ice cream. I added a note asking for the mix-ins to be put on top. I get there to see a rather unenthusiastic bunch. Upon asking for my order, one of the "hard workers" acted as if I was interrupting his day. To my surprise my order was waiting ON the counter top out in the open instead of in the freezer. The ice cream was almost totally melted since it didn't occur to them to keep it in the freezer. How could they not think about this? Here's another way to look at it. Ice cream + room temperature = melted ice cream. Makes sense right? Yes it does. I asked for the mix-ins on top so I could taste them and the ice cream separately. Did they place them on top? No, they didn't. I'm surprised they didn't do that given the fact that it would mean less work for them. They mixed the toppings in with the ice fream. Evidently they don't read carefully. So I had melted ice cream with toppings mixed in not being able to savor the taste of each separately. Because of this monumenal incompetency, I was unable to have a pleasant experience. I'm hoping that this could serve as a teachable moment for these people. Moreover, the place is very unsanitary as other reviewers have mentioned. Also the bathrooms are filthy. I'm not sure what the problem is here. Maybe they are underpaid or maybe they just don't give a $hit. I'm not sure who is runnng this place but whoever it is, they better revamp their operations quickly before they lose customers and go out of business. In fact, I think somebody should call the branch manager. Even Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie could do a better job on The Simple Life. I've been to Cold Stone from Las Vegas to New York to Florida and this location is by far the nastiest and dirtiest of them all. Starting with the doors and windows, it has not been cleaned in a long time. The display unit vents are filthy. The glass on the display case has hand written signs which are old an unprofessional. Wow! Amazing ice creams and ice cream cakes. Had the Signature Creations- Chocolate Devotion ice cream! It was delicious Chocolate ice cream mixed with chocolate chips, brownie and fudge. The staff mixes the ingredients right in front of you do check the video. I ordered a Small size in a cone and it cost me approx $ 7. Absolutely worth every penny! I love this location but the parking sucks due to it being located in Worldgate. I use to have a problem here with slow service but the last 3 times I have been here no problems at all. If you use a credit card to pay the machine seems to always take forever!!! They also usually give you a card when you pay to rate your experience online. It gives you a code after you finish the survey and gives you a $1 off your next purchase. Also the survey lets you sign up for this locations newsletter. Cake was very good but service was very disappointing. We preordered a birthday cake on Friday for pickup Monday at 4:30. Arrived at the store at 5:08 to find the doors locked and a soiled piece of paper taped to the door saying they were closed for maintenance until 5:30. We waited until 5:40 then called but got voicemail. Received a call back at about 6 and were told the store reopened at 6. First time going to this Coldstone as we're newer to the area- will never be back. I'd rather drive further for a better customer experience. My husband went in to get us ice cream for my birthday as I had a BOGO birthday reward in my account. He let the employee who was making the ice cream know and also let the cashier know upon getting to the register. Once he handed him the receipt, we realized we were charged $14 (regular price). So my husband said he had just told him he had a BOGO reward he would like to use as it expired the next day. The cashier then proceeded to say that he or the other employee didn't know how to fix it, give a refund, or even give a Coldstone credit so there was nothing that he could do. And my husband got a little annoyed at this point and said well I just told you I had a BOGO, you charge me wrong, and now you can't do anything about it? That's when the cashier says "You never told me you had a BOGO." Seriously? Calling the customer a liar? What happened to the customer being right? He also then said stupid excuse like "it's a problem with the system. It shows you that you have a reward but when you order, you don't actually have one." Ridiculous answer. How does management have two employees during the holiday season on a Sunday evening who don't know how to issue refunds? He also gave us the wrong sizes. We asked for a medium and large and we got two mediums which we weren't even going to try to argue about after the lack of care of the first issue. I worked at a different Coldstone while in High school and when I got a gift card was very excited to return! When I walked in the door I could tell things have gone downhill. One employee was at the counter out of uniform(no hat or name tag), napkins littered the floor, tiles on the walls missing, and broken tables leaning against the wall. Banana ice cream was great and I managed to get the last chocolate dipped bowl that wasn't very dark brown and burnt. I was super excited at checkout to tip some $ to hear the employees sing! I was then informed by a guy working that he knows other Coldstones sing for tips but they do not :( I used the rest of my gift card for a water and won't be returning anytime soon. Coldstone is overpriced but with a clean store and fun employees it can be worth it! All this place has is the overpriced ice cream, I won't be returning :( read more

Checked out this location today - just happened to be nearby and decided to take advantage of a BOGO free coupon. I typically order one of the signature ice creams like Founder's Favorite, Coffee Lovers Only, Thats How I Roll, etc. Today was a Coffee Lovers day for me. This is a review of their cake order dept. only. I had asked for multi colored letters on the birthday cake and maybe some kind of bear drawing on there. Didn't get that, got just one color letters with no frills. So on that, I'd give 2 stars. Very basic decorations. The pros: the cake was MOIST and VERY fresh. Moreso than at the Vienna location when I ordered the same exact cake (Mint Chip with chocolate cake) last year. The cookies on the top were also very fresh. So! The ice cream itself is the same delicious stuff that you get at every other Cold Stone and the location is convenient, but that is pretty much where the positives end. Frequently, we have found long lines of 10+ people, but only 2 out of the 4 employees actually bothering to wait on the customers. Often when there is no line, the teenagers are so busy chit chatting and goofing off that you stand there for a few minutes before they even acknowledge you are there. Then when they finally do serve you, they act as though you are some huge inconvenience. Oh, and just buy the small size because they don't adjust the amount of mix-ins that you receive based upon the size you order (as in you get the same amount of graham cracker crust mixed into a small as you do a large). I'm not ordering a larger size so that I can get a larger ice cream to the mix-in ratio. I still want the same taste regardless of what size I order. Really, just go to a different Cold Stone. read more

However, I noticed another employee sitting on the counter (not the one they make ice cream on, but there's still toppings and food items back there) playing on her phone. Pretty poor customer service everytime we come here. Its always young kids too busy talking to each other or playing on their phones so you don't get greeted or even acknowledged until they are ready to help you. No hellos, no smiles, nothing. It couldn't be more clear that you hate your job and have no interest in making my experience here pleasant. The facility is usually dirty, filthy sticky tables, napkins everywhere. Today I paid $6 for half melted ice cream shoved into a small container with the lid jammed on, ice cream spilling down the sides and she had the audacity to present it to me that way while fully aware the state it was in. No thanks.The location is only convenient if we are there to catch a movie already but the parking at Worldgate is garbage so this is all in all a hassle to get to and a pass. And it's my favorite time of year where they offer pumpkin ice cream ( just when you thought cake batter was the most incredible flavor..) As far as the service goes... Terrible. But what more can you expect from 16 year olds unsupervised who are expected to sing for their tips? The service was very slow, seems understaffed for such a busy location... The 2 girls working were talking to their friend who was leaning over the counter to the side, and one of them even offered her some of my Boyfriends ice cream while she was making it and ended up totally skimping him.. I'm about to take out half of my savings account just to pay for that one "love it" size, I think you can at least manage to fill it up to the rim. My one piece of advice to coldstone, cough up the the extra $2 an hour and hire better employees, especially with those ever rising prices for frozen cream. 3.5 The last part of the Herndon saga ends at Cold Stone Creamery, which is in the same center as a plethora of other restaurants (pretty much on the other side of American Cafe and Matsutake). Previously, I had never been to Cold Stone. After getting the Very Vanilla shake ($6.34 including tax), I'd have to say that they are OK. Not great, but not bad either. I have to give the employees a lot of credit: they did a great job as far as customer service was concerned. They were cheerful as far as I could tell. I'll get a chance to experience Cold Stone in the future to try out the different flavors of ice cream (Macadamia Nut and Oatmeal Cookie Batter come into mind).
