What can you say about Cold Stone Creamery that hasn't already been said? They're seemingly on every corner in the U.S. like Starbucks. I stopped by this location in Desert Ridge Marketplace on a Tuesday evening before going to the movies. Parking won't be a problem in the spacious free lots that surround the entertainment complex. Ambiance (2/5): Cold Stone is a grab and go type of place because they don't have any tables inside. They have a few tables outside, but as you know, that often isn't the play in Phoenix. Which isn't the best choice. I guess you need to have your ice cream melt outdoors or run to your car. Service (3/5): High school teenagers are manning this location. So as you'd expect, you're going to have an average experience. Not that service is a big part of getting ice cream though. Like all ice cream parlors, you can sample a flavor or two if you'd like. Drinks (N/A): I was on a dessert diet only on this visit. Food (2.5/5): I went with a love it (2 scoops) in a waffle cone with pretzel twist Oreo and strawberry. You get one complimentary mix-in. I went with the brownie bites. Cold Stone is mediocre ice cream at best. I'd much rather pay a little more to go to a specialty spot. I also had the weirdest cone I've ever had. Part of the bottom was missing so it was dripping a lot. Not sure if this is how they make their cones or if they gave me a partially broken one. In fact, the lady making my ice cream put my ice cream in a cup without even asking me if I wanted a cup or cone. I corrected her, but probably should've stuck with a cup (there's a surcharge on waffle cones too). While Cold Stone was convenient, I'm not itching to go back anytime soon. read more

I ordered to go and supposedly my order was supposed to be ready in 20 minutes. I arrived and my order was not ready even after 20+ minutes. When I finally got my order my ice cream was melted. While the service was good the ice cream was horrible! My chocolate ice cream felt like I was chewing rubber. The flavor was there at least but I only ate half and threw the rest out cause I couldn't handle it anymore. My friend liked her ice cream flavor choice, but her mixed in gummy bears she said were absolutely disgusting that she had to just spit them out and toss the rest. $14 for two small scoops and a mix in at Cold Stone is ridiculous! I've put off this review for a long time because life happens and people call in sick but this is the 4th time I've come in on the weekend and there's only 2 people working. The TWO people working are amazing... hustling and great attitude. But only 2? The management should better schedule as a courtesy to the staff and customers as well. Considering the store is at desert ridge it's actually quite small. There is no seating inside, and it can get awkward and cramped if there is a long line. They usually close off one of the doors so you can only exit and enter through the other one, which helps the line stay inside but also just crowds it more. Ice cream is on par with other cold stones. If you are new to the brand, you select your ice cream flavor and mix ins (candy, peanut butter, chocolate sauce, etc) and they mix it in front of you.. on a cold stone (get it?). The ice cream is pretty heavy and comes in three sizes (like it, love it, gotta have it). I can eat lots of ice cream but have only ever finished a like it from here considering it's on the heavier side of ice cream. My go to is usually the mud pie mojo (coffee ice cream, chocolate, peanut butter, nuts). Most of their pre-determined creations are good though. There are several tables outside of the store as well as the various additional seating around desert ridge. Service is hit or miss here. However, I will say on our most recent visit the girl was super friendly and fast. read more

My wife and i love to come here to grab some ice cream on a night out. This location however needs some serious training or to hire better more dedicated staff who aren't lazy and constantly goofing off. This place on the weekend can get very very busy like most ice cream places at popular spots like Desert Ridge. The Friday night we stopped by was no different. long line out the door but we decided to wait anyway. They had 3 people on staff but I'm pretty sure they were working at the pace of about 1 1/2. The process they were doing was one person would scoop, mix and ring out each customer so my wife had hers mixed and in cup at the register before my order was even taken. They would mix the ice cream about 2 or 3 times not fully incorporating the ingredients before scooping it in the cup and they might be something wrong with their freezer as well because my ice cream was pretty much soup by the time i got it and walked outside. When they finally checked us out at the register the girl who took our money walked away to go help someone else, the guy bags mine and was too distracted by joking around with his coworker to even think about handing me my purchase. I had to reach over the counter behind the register to pick up my bag. I'm probably fortunate that Cold Stone is at Desert Ridge rather than Baskin Robbins as I'd be outfitting myself with elastic pants. While reading the other reviews, it's very common that the workers get all have attitudes and that was my problem as well. They don't wear gloves, just an FYI if you feel disgusted by that.
