I consider Coldwater Golf Course in Avondale, AZ, my home away from home, and I'm there 2-3 times a week. Yesterday's experience was something I'll never forget. After teeing off on hole 1 during an 8:08 AM solo round, I realized I had lost my cell phone somewhere in the rough. My music cut out, and that's when panic set in. I retraced my steps all the way back to the clubhouse and spoke with Del, who was behind the counter. Without hesitation, he called Joseph from the Cart Barn to help me search for the phone on hole 1. Joseph and I went back to the course, and he started calling my phone as we retraced my steps. It felt like we were searching for a needle in a haystack, but they didn't give up. Thanks to their determination, we found my phone, and they even let me redo hole 1 so I could start fresh. This level of customer service is truly above and beyond. It's not just about playing golf here; it's about how the staff genuinely cares for their customers. Coldwater Golf Course is a hidden gem for golf enthusiasts who want a great round without breaking the bank. The course has a laid-back vibe, with a desert-style layout that offers wide fairways and just the right amount of challenge with its bunkers and water hazards. The greens are well-kept and roll true, and the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and desert make it a visually pleasing place to play. The course itself has always been great, but I've noticed even more improvements lately, which I credit to Del and his dedicated team. They definitely need a new grounds crew. This has to be one of the worst kept courses in the greater Phoenix area. Greens are absolutely awful, fairways are also awful, tee boxes are even worse. Go spend your money somewhere else. Also it was a 6 hour round. Pace was terrible. read more

Thankfully my club was returned, but there was a lot of confusion about its whereabouts, and it appeared to have been used while out of the course's possession. It came back with a few new scratches. Appreciate the return, but the handling of the situation was disappointing. read more

Really have improved the course. Very good, challenging course. The food in the restaurant is very good and reasonably priced also.

I wouldn't even pay $10 for 18 holes here after seeing the course conditions last week. The fairways are 75% dirt with dead grass everywhere else. The tee boxes and absolutely covered in weeds and also dirt. Oh and also the round took 4.5 hours. I'd stay away from here at all costs. Worst course in the west valley read more

Played this course on Wed. 1/24. Greens are in poor shape ! Greens have some grass and then matted grass ? unable to putt ! This used to be a great course my group of 8 played weekly with satisfactory conditions. SELL it or fix it !!! OR reduce the price to maybe $39, because its not worth $79. read more

As a local who golfs regularly to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. The cart was shabby and the grass was patchy. It is hard to find the tee boxes since some of them are not even marked. After is started to pour on us we went back to the club house drenched. When we asked Pete for a voucher for the back nine he was rude and belligerent. I have never been treated so poorly. I will never be back. read more

SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! Let me start off on a positive note. The staff was friendly and their demeanor showed they love working at the club. Now the terrible. First stop was the driving range. A small bucket of found mixed beat up golf balls for $6 is insulting. The range field looks worst than a cow pasture. The putting green cups haven't been changed in weeks. A cup dive is 4 1/4 inches wide but not these cups they measured 3 inches. The grass on the putting green and the golf course was long which made putting impossible. The grass on the tees if you can find a spot the wasn't dirt was very tall as well. The fairways terrible at best. The grass was long and again there were areas of dirt patches. I have played this course twice and both times it was in horrible shape. If I could I would rate the course a zero. I would have had more fun putting the $54.90 on black at Desert Diamond casino and red came up. I would have saved the 7 hours I wasted visiting the course. read more

Went golfing at Coldwater and it was pouring rain went in after 5 holes of golf to ask for a 9 hole rain check after I paid for 18 holes. Pete then proceeded to tell me it's not raining and had no interest in looking to see if it was raining for himself. He laughed at me when I asked for the rain check. Pete then started raising his voice and I told him he had poor customer service and then Pete told me to "Get the f**k out then". I was shocked at that statement and then turned around and left. Will not return to Cold Water. Do not recommend playing this course. read more

Would not recommend. 5+ hour round. It took 3 hours to finish 11 holes. Called the pro shop while waiting on the 12th tee with the group in front of us. The ranger then came out and harassed our group on the 13th tee box saying we were being inconsiderate. Told us the 4 hr 45 minute rounds were normal and we didn't know what we were talking about. He was incredibly disrespectful and was even talking while members of our group were trying to tee off. For a price of $90 I would A) expect better customer service and b) the course be in better conditions. The greens were incredibly slow and it was impossible to get a putt to stay on line (greens didn't run true like we were told). All in all spend the extra $50 to play any other course in the area. This use to be a really good course, not sure what happened. We golf every weekend at different courses all ranging from $30-$100 and as of now this was the worst one this summer. It was $55, trash all over the course, hardly any trash cans, fairways and tee boxes were completely dead and dry from lack of water. Yes we know it's summer but all the other courses we played still had green greens, fairways and tee boxes so can't blame the heat. This course is worth maybe $25 a round, definitely not $50+. read more

Played there yesterday in an APT event. After 14 winters in phoenix I had never heard of this course. I know why. Cart path only as overseed failed and supposedly going to overseed again. The course layout is nice and the greens are extremely undulating and fun. Fairways reminded me of a $25 par 3 course. All this said if priced accordingly I'd play here again. It's worth about $45-50. read more

Played this course about a month out of overseeding. They let this place go... I am glad I had a free pass i would not pay $60 a round for that condition in the winter. Probably won't go back, so many courses in the valley that are in better condition and the same price. Unless they fix their water issue. That course is going to 100% trash by new years. read more

Yeah, I was that D-Bag that showed up for his 6:18 tee time at 6:15. Coldwater was very professional about the situation and I was still able to enjoy a round of golf before the sweltering heat hit us. When I strolled into the the pro shop I was apologetic and the pro told me not to worry and he was ok with me catching up with my group and then playing #1 after we finished. But he said to check with the starter first to see what he wanted to do. There was a threesome at the tee and he told me to just join them...problem solved. The layout of the course is pretty straight forward and would probably be pretty boring for the low handicappers with a rating of 71.3 from the tips. We played from the Blue tees which measured just over 6300 yards with slope of 115. None of the holes really stood out for me as the fairways were pretty open with little elevation change and a few doglegs. There is some water on the course and I found it on 8 and 18 because it was blind from where I was hitting and was not given any local knowledge from playing partners. The round was slow (around 4.5 hours) and not because of of the group in front of us, but because the group I played with (high handicappers) refused to play ready golf waiting for everyone to reach every green and teeing off with honors at every box. There's no GPS on the carts, the driving range was closed because of the recent rains, and I didn't use any of the facilities in the clubhouse. The course was in decent shape and very playable. I'm probably one and done for this course but I greatly appreciate the affordable greens fees, $39.17 including cart, and the accommodation of the staff. The course is good for what it is and you'll have a good round if you have the correct expectations. read more

Greens looked like they hadn't been cut in a week. Pace of play was good. Beverage cart was consistent.

Food was amazing. Definitely recommend the burger and fries. The golf course was great also.

Friend and I came here on Christmas Eve, We had an 7:45 Tee time, so it was pretty cold. But, we got ourselves out and had a great time. Supposedly this course has new owners, so time will tell to see how it goes. As of today, the course is in great shape. Greens are pretty hard, and fast. I love the layout here, sand bunkers are also in great shape. I shouldn't really complain about anything here. However, The Tee box needs some work, never like when the Tee box is uneven. They do still have fuel golf carts. But if that's the only issues I have? Big deal! I had a great time, hopefully we will come back again. read more

Disappointed! A great layout but not being taken care of. T boxes were scarce of grass on many. Put some tee receptacles on each tee box as they were littered with broken tees. Greens were about a 6 on a scale of 1-10. Sparce also in some areas. Priced high for conditions. Hopefully some TLC into course will bring me back. read more

Really fun and pretty cheap for a nice golf course. The fairways and greens are well kept, but they could definitely put a little work in on the rough. Not really sure why the course is green, and then you take a step off of the fairway and you're on dirt. I don't think they're going for the desert look, I just think they aren't watering. The play was very slow, but that isn't really on the course, it's just the type of golfers that are playing. It's a nice beginning course if you've never played before, and a fun course if you have played. Not the nicest of courses, but this is my first time golfing in Avondale, so it was a good introduction. Will go back and play, but I'll make sure to get a tee time earlier in the day, so we can get all 18 in. read more

I wouldn't let reviews fool you , this course is not in good shape the greens nothing is cut but still charging $60 a round ? Also leaving sprinklers on while golfers can't find there ball in middle of fair way . I would call and ask if they did any landscape before you decide to make the drive . I golfed here on Friday 6/28/24. I decided to ignore all these recent reviews saying how bad this course was. It's been awhile since I golfed here but surely there was exaggeration in these reviews. Sadly there was not. From unkept tee boxes, yellow brown fairways, to greens that look like corduroy pants. It was so bad here it got comical for my foursome. On May 18th 2024 the course was in miserable shape. Fairways are brown and the greens are like putting on the surface of the moon. Something is going on . I just wish these corporations would show some pride before they cash in and sell the course to a developer or a company trying to monopolize the West Valley courses . . AVOID AT ALL COST! played this morning on 4/28/24 and place is a dog track. Used to come here often but will no longer play here. Greens are not puttable. Has patches of grass and weeds all over and hadto use my wedge to chip while on the green. And they now charge you 3% if you pay with a credit card like they are running an Etsy shop. Not sure what happened to this place. Don't waste your money. Play Sundance course or better off playing Wii golf. read more

The course is in really bad shape. If you go off the fairway by a few feet you will be hitting your ball out of hard clay and rocks. There are divots everywhere in the fairways so you're often hitting out of a hole and the sand traps lack sand. Definitely not worth what you pay, but this could be a fun course if they took care of it. read more

Pretty disappointing honestly. Booked online through Groupon and when checking in the shop told me I could've saved $6 by booking through them. Rather than give me the cheaper rate he still charged the more expensive rate. Maybe he didn't have control because he still was a nice guy... so I'll let that slide. So then we go to play, and I brought two friends with me that I'm trying to get into golf. I explained to them the basics and taught them about how to play fast and when to pick up. Well we waited a solid 10 min on the first tee as it already appeared to be backed up. We played fast and waited on every tee. Meanwhile the started harassed us on every single hole for the first 4 holes telling us to pick up the pace and "do you even play golf?". Super uncomfortable. We played fast and waited on every tee box for the group in front of us yet he chose to harass me and my friends. I was mortified as they felt so bad. They are new and did their best and it was definitely uncomfortable. The tee boxes were in bad shape and there was a hole entirely covered in trash. Maybe spend more time cleaning the place up then harassing your guests. We will go elsewhere next time. read more

I have played here many times, my expectations are not "high" but today was disappointing. Long, deep rough and a lot of weeds - course looks like it it lacking love. With range balls it cost over $50 which is too much for this area, this time of year, this quality of course. Especially disappointing was the new 2.9% service fee on credit cards. Unfortunately there were no Marshall's and our round took over 5 hours. It used to be part of our local west valley cycle but I suspect it will be a while before we come back. read more

Great course for a great price. I've played here about 10 times, it is in great shape during winter and still kept up with during summer. Very polite and friendly staff, fun holes. Only complaint is I wish they had more shade on the course but being in AZ a lot of courses don't. read more
