I was a patient here for over 3 years . I always felt pressured . To spend more money . They took a mold of my teeth for Invisalign without my consenting to the treatment . But the worst was when Coleman claimed that I needed a crown. In fact his father came in and told me that he couldn't believe that my tooth was still in tact. It didn't feel right though to me and I have been to TWO dentists since without telling them what he saw and they saw absolutely nothing to indicate the need for a crown. So buyer beware . Dr. John Coleman and his team at Coleman and Coleman took care of my 12 year old daughter exceptionally! She is a new patient referral and we were looking for an alternative to treating "food stains" or what could be the start of decay of new molars without the use of needles, drills and sedation. After speaking with 3 other dentists and doing research of more gentle and non-invasive techniques, I was curious about micro-abrasion. Since my daughter's problem seemed to be on the surface of her "grooved" new adult teeth, it was certainly worth exploring. Coleman and Coleman is true in their representation of being "advanced" in their field and it took some investigating and the kind referral of a pediatric dentist to locate them for our situation. As a caring parent, I was so happy to find out that Dr. John offered this procedure and also felt it was a good way to go. I don't believe there are many in San Diego that offer it and I was amazed at how varied each doctor's approach was that I consulted with. Dr. John's care was skillful, gentle and thorough. He explained every step of the procedure as he did it and it went absolutely seamlessly. I appreciate his treatment of my daughter and his manner with her. She is almost a teenager and felt like he respected her with his one-on-one approach and didn't "talk over her", as some professional may, just because she is a child. She was very confident and felt well taken care of. Dr. John's dental assistant was also very instrumental in the procedure. All and all, what others said would take 2 hours or even 2 appointments/days, took about 30 minutes. Fantastic! I'm a new patient of Dr. Coleman's. I found him online when I was looking for a place to get Invisalign. I already had a dentist but wasn't crazy about them. I had severe anxiety and fear of dental work up until today! I've had bad experiences with dentists in the past but as soon as I met Dr. Coleman (Jr.) and his Assistant I felt more at ease. Today I had a filling and cap put on. They took their time with me and made sure I was comfortable throughout the process. I've never done well with dentists. Genetically I don't have stellar teeth, so dentists tend to make me feel pretty terrible about myself. That whole "kicking a guy when he's down" and drawing negative attention to someone's deepest insecurities thing. The condescending tones I'm given at dental offices, combined with a general fear of pain and overwhelming financial burden have always driven me away from dentists after the first visit. I'm THAT person who goes once and never goes back. Dr. Coleman was nothing at all like any of the dentists I had seen in the past. Him, his hygienist, and his front office staff were all very welcoming and accepting. I never once felt the slightest bit judged by any of them. Dr. Coleman listened to my problems with my teeth, and asked about any apprehensions I may have had in the past about dental visits. He explained his process thoroughly every step of the way. I felt like I was really the one in control of my treatment plan, and that he had given me enough information for me to make informed decisions. His front office staff was very informative and explained my financial options to me explicitly, and accommodated my busy schedule for my upcoming visits. I can say with absolute confidence that I won't be ditching this dentist like I have all my previous ones. I am new to the area and had gone to a new dentist to get an exam and cleaning, they told me I had a failed root canal and crown and it would require an expensive procedure to fix. I decided to get another opinion and went to Dr. Coleman. They are fantastic! He did an extensive exam and found there was nothing wrong with the tooth at all. He didn't even charge me! They have not and you are ultimately responsible for the entire amount regardless of any verbal agreement. During my crown replacement surgery, Dr. Coleman cut the wrong tooth and left the tooth that needs a treatment untreated. The surgery was done without my consent. He explained his mistake was due to a record error done by his assistant. Come on! Don't try to find excuses! If Dr. Coleman double checked my tooth before he began the surgery rather than tried to move to his next appointment as quickly as possible to make more money, he would have easily found this mistake. His negligent conduct and malpractice has jeopardized my health and made my dental visit an extremely painful experience. Now, I have to have this crown for the rest of my life time, as the tooth wouldn't grow back - Just like a doctor cuts a patient's finger, which wouldn't grow back! The damage is permanent! I have been to the office for a preliminary quote to have a tooth extracted. So far the dentist has been kind and comforting. I will be going to the office this Monday for the extraction. I will let Yelp know how it went and how post op will work out. Instead of Coleman and Coleman Dentistry pulling my tooth, they called on the same day and said I should go to an Oral Surgeon. They waited until the morning of the appointment. I was sent to North Coast Dental Surgery in Vista. It became an emergency situation for that day. I did get the tooth pulled however the appointment was for 2:00 PM and the tooth was not pulled until 5:00 PM that day. The actual extraction took only 5 minutes after waiting for 3 hours to see the oral surgeon. Since the oral surgeon had 3 emergencies that day, the job was finally done at 5:00 Pm. Not happy that i had to wait for 3 hours to get a tooth pulled. I wrote on Yelp to say "Stay tuned". Going back to the oral surgeon on Thursday, January 21st to see how I am doing. Hard to find a good dentist in San Diego County. read more
