    Grey brisket and supermarket sausage.

If you like to pay $100 for oven cooked, dry and grey brisket and supermarket sausage, this is the place for you. Also, no bread, no jalapeños, no onion and they were out of most sides. What garbage. Don't eat here.

We stopped here for lunch on the way back from College Station, and are we glad we did! Coles is charming, with a surprising selection of vintage and gourmet sodas on one side of an old gas station, and an expansive assortment of BBQ rubs and sauces on the other. In between though is where the magic happens: the barbecue counter!! We got the chopped BBQ Grilled cheese sandwich, and it was TO DIE FOR! served up hot and gooey on perfectly crispy grilled Texas toast, you can order this sandwich with or without BBQ sauce. We will definitely make this our go-to BBQ stop on the way to College Station from now on. 5 amazing gas station BBQ stars!

The folks were friendly and fast providing service. Unfortunately that is the highlight. There are lots of different takes on Texas Barbecue and people can argue over their favorites. I was not a fan. The beans were good. The potato salad was bland and even the turkey was fatty. I asked for lean brisket but it was fatty and did not have much smoke. I was unimpressed with the meat quality and the amount of smoking applied to it. I know times are tough. I wish this business success and prosperity. I hope I came on an off day. Please try Cole's and make your own decision. It wasn't for me.

Pulled Pork Sandwich with sauce, pickles, jalapeños, & onions

I just don't know.... I've not made up my mind yet about Texas BBQ. I'm from North Ga and I swear we have the best BBQ! I travel GA, TN, AL, SC, NC, TX & LA a lot and I am always on the look out for for good BBQ. The best I've found have always been the ones off the beaten path or like Cole's sharing a convenience space. Billboards for Cole's started outside of Dallas so I believe I expected something a little different. Cole's prices are high compared to what I'm used to but it may be necessary to pay for all that advertising signage. $9.95 for a pulled pork sandwich including condiments (pickles, jalapeños, & onions). For a couple dollars extra, you have the choice of a fountain drink or a variety of in store sodas, colas or drinks from Mexico. The selection is pretty impressive! There are some dessert options at the counter...big cat head cookies, fudge, puddings and cheesecake (maybe?). It's an experience (no regrets stopping) but not as good as I would have liked it to be. Very messy.. my bun was soaked after my first bite and with no napkins, sitting in the car, I was wearing the sauce before I finished. The meat was tender...a good thing... and the sauce is not sweet or hot but has a peppery taste that is not unpleasant but definitely not as good as a vinegar based sauce. I give it an "it's aw'wight" not wanting to dissuade anyone from trying. To each their own when it comes to good BBQ. It just doesn't make 'MY' Top 10 or 20.

    Brisket, sausage Frito Pie
    HaveUBeenHere H.

Every time we head out to Houston we make a pit stop at Cole's BBQ in Fairfield Texas (off 45) they have the BEST Frito Pie in Texas. LORD knows I've had my fair share of different Frito Pies: Cousins BBQ in Fort Worth, Tx--Viteks in Waco, Tx--Mike Anderson's in Dallas, Tx and Cole's which in my book is #1!! If you're looking for moist, tender, mouth watering brisket with sausage and beans with all the fixings then this is it!!! They're located inside of a Shell Gas Station off highway 45 in Fairfield, Texas. Now the one thing I will say they need to do better with is get rid of or teach the white guy taking orders how to approach customers. This guy is rude and has zero people skills, he needs to have his butt in the back cleaning up or something. The other staff associates are very friendly and welcoming---the African American man chopping the meat is kinder then the order taker. These restaurants need to know that we the CONSUMERS have a choice where we can spend our hard earned dollar and when I come into an establishment--I expect to be greeted with a smile NOT an attitude!!! I can go spend my money somewhere else where it will be welcomed!

Tender BBQ can't be beat, we get some every time we visit the state park for a day of fishing. Located in a gas station with a dinning room.

Determined to…read morefinally try something new - and to not hit up the usual Buc-ee's or Woody's and the like - we stopped at Sam's last Friday. And I'm glad we did! If you're seeking something quick, gourmet, trendy, or unique, Sam's is NOT it. But if you have time to sit down at a classic Texas comfort food joint and enjoy a buffet with items such as southern fried chicken, fried catfish, brisket w. BBQ sauce, fried okra, corn, mashed potatoes, and a whole lot more, then Sam's is worth checking out. They also have an ala carte menu of southern classics. Oh, and if you opt to do the buffet as I did, you can help yourself to a few different freshly made warm desserts or ice cream, and at no extra charge. $19.99 was more than fair for buffet and that's more than fair for what you get. There is also a fruit and salad bar which I didn't partake from and I couldn't even try all the hot food. Oh well...there will be a next time!

First, the service was excellent, I believe our server was named Presley. Very kind, always checking on us and keeping our water and tea full. On the buffet, my dad enjoyed the salad he had, but was surprised at the little variety offered that day. He said last time he was there with my brother there was more to choose from. He then got the fried chicken, which was greasy and barely any chicken on the thigh. I tried to find a drumstick but it was just breasts, thighs and a few wings. He did like the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. As for the fried okra, you have to eat it fresh. It is sitting under a heat lamp just makes it soggy and slimy. I ordered 4 vegetables a la carte which came out to be as much as the all you can eat buffet. First, their onion rings are OUTSTANDING! So is their homemade ranch. What was disappointing was the green beans, they definitely came out of a can and were heated. At $3.99 I expected fresh. There may have been a small piece of onion in it. Not sure if that was how it was cooked or if it fell in from another dish. The black-eyed peas were tasty. I also had a cup of the chicken corn chowder which was good. However, there was pieces of cubed chicken in it which also made me think that it was a prepackaged soup and not homemade. My dad got the coconut cream pie, which tasted good, but could have used more coconut then just on the top. He wanted bread pudding or peach cobbler, however at the time of day we were there, they had been picked over way too much, not leaving much for anyone else to enjoy. I did like the selections in the gift shop and purchased a tea towel before we left. I always like to try a place 3 times so I may stop in and try something else. Again, great customer service.

I was genuinely hoping to have a great experience and leave a positive review, but unfortunately, that was not the case. The chicken wings were overcooked, dry, tough, and lacked seasoning. The catfish appeared to be poor quality, with a fishy taste and more fatty pieces than actual fish. The fries were dry, overcooked, and not served hot. The coleslaw looked watery and mushy, so I chose not to eat it. Even the slice of bread included with the meal was hard and stale. I also tried the egg rolls, but for the price, I did not feel they were worth it and found them lacking in flavor. Overall, the food seemed overly greasy, and the grease itself tasted old, which affected the taste of everything. Considering the quality of the food, I do not feel the meal was worth the $40 price tag. I always try to support Black-owned businesses and truly wanted to enjoy this experience, but based on the food and value received, I would not return. I hope this feedback is taken as constructive criticism and used to improve the overall quality and consistency of the food.
