Trustworthy, competent, and kind staff... I had been buying gas here for some time (they have among the best prices in the DMV area) before bringing my car for repairs. I was getting the runaround from the dealership (yet again) and enduring poor quality work from other stations....finally got fed up and brought my car here (for the tire repair mentioned below), after remembering how nice Navy, the cashier and owner's wife, had always been when I bought gas... College Park Auto Service quickly fixed my tire on the spot (which the dealership said I needed to have replaced, as well as all my other tires...I had replaced all four tires about a year ago...I mean, really?!!) College Park Auto also quickly repaired a right turn signal light which had been acting up for over a year (and which both the dealership and other auto repair places had not been able to figure out...) My right turn signal is now working normally, after a simple and inexpensive fix by College Park Auto---YAY!!! Thank goodness for this place, and for the awesome and humble mechanics here, especially Tek (and Navy is super funny and friendly)....This is my go-to place from now on for all my car maintenance and repairs (except body work, which they don't do).... I haven't gotten any repairs done here, but I frequently like to buy fuel here because it's so close to my home. The fuel prices are reasonable, but the receipt paper often runs out; so I must take extra time to go inside to get my receipt. And the pumps are not sheltered from weather like many stations do for their pumps; so if you're fueling in the rain, you need to be ready for that. My main problem is the hours: They aren't very convenient. They close quite early on weekend evenings and fairly early on weekday evenings. I think this station would be much better if they offered even somewhat expanded hours. read more

I'm going to have to echo most of the reviews here which are positive. Both my parents have been taking their cars here for many years and they have also purchased used vehicles from this shop that ran problem free for years as well. I did want to address the couple 1 star review or low reviews and be 100% honest. And it is, in fact, why this place only got 4 stars. The deal is this-- The owner is a rarity in today's world. He is an 'honest mechanic' and he truly is. The *problem* is this and it reflects what you all are saying. His staff sometimes incorrectly diagnose a problem due to lack of experience. He takes them at their word, which in some cases, is wrong. So you run into situations like the ones described. Even though I've been going here myself now for many years, I've learned a very simple 'fix' for this problem. If it seems really expensive, just like a doctor, get a 2nd opinion. If it is much cheaper than you know that the issue is what I just described. That little disclaimer out of the way, you know how I know this guy is honest? Because I -asked- him to do some repairs that I myself diagnosed as problems. I'm not a mechanic but I am no stranger under the hood either. He saw the issues and was like 'you know, I could do this, but for the price it would cost, these are pretty minor issues and won't really have a major impact on your driveability.' That was a significant amount of money the man walked away from. Find me one other shop where that happens at, and I'll give you a cookie! I've had two experiences with these guys recently and I was wowed by the level of service I received. Recently, after returning to my car with groceries I realized my battery was dead. Lucky for me, College Park Auto Service was nearby and they took such good care of me. I was so happy with the friendly service I received that I took my car back a few days later for an oil change. I've used this place for oil changes over the years and I agree other reviews that it's a trustworthy business. If I've ever needed more work to my car beyond an oil change, they've called me and let me know what they have discovered and the price to fix it before going forward. It's been comforting to know they were upfront. One thing to note is that you won't get your car back in 20-30 minutes. On Saturdays, they can get a queue of customers so you probably won't be able to pick up your vehicle until later that day. Not sure if the turnaround is faster on weekdays, but in the end, the service is great, so I've never minded their current turnaround time. read more

STAY AWAY! I called to pay for my diagnostic fee since I found a car repair shop nearby that charged $200 less then them to repair my car. She refused to take my payment for my car over the phone. I explained to the asian lady who works the desk that they had my car and I had no way to get to them. She said "It's not my problem! Take a bus or train." Very unprofessional. Way too expensive for repairs. They wanted 695 plus tax while the repair shop I'm taking it to is charing me 490 for everything. Big Difference. read more

I went here for a car inspection (I'm a new MD resident) and I hold the mechanics and staff at this family-run business VERY VERY suspect. Most likely assuming and playing on my naivety, I was quoted big dollars for small fixes needed to pass inspection and which I solved myself: I was told I need a new wiper motor for $340 since my wipers didn't go down on their own. I fixed this with a $15 relay I purchased at AutoZone. I was told I need a new brake light assembly (not just the bulbs). They didn't quote a price but said it could be a lot. I replaced the bulbs myself (so it was the bulbs after all) for $30 at Walmart. They did not even remove the covering for the brake lights and my car remained in their lot all day. When I fixed these problems myself and returned to pass the inspection, they did not seem surprised, maybe just disappointed they were unable to scam me. In short, I will never visit this place for any service again and I would advise others to avoid them as well. read more

I am usually very particular about where I have my cars serviced. I usually avoid this service station, even though I live around the corner from it. as a result of a series of unforeseeable events, I wound up getting all four tires on my van replaced at this service station. before I went to the service station, there was nothing wrong with my car except that it had four tires that needed to be replaced. as soon as i got the car back from them, my low tire pressure light was on, which it was not before. to make a long story short, when they replaced my tires, the mechanics broke three of my tire pressure sensors. I took the van to the dealership to confirm that the sensors were broken and there wasn't some other problem. to replace the sensors will cost close to $500. the dealership recommended what I already knew, that it was the service station's responsibility to replace the sensors. when I went back to discuss the situation with the lady at the counter (the owner's wife), she began yelling and accusing me of coming in with the sensors already broken. she refused to admit that they had broken the sensors and to replace them. this after she had yelled at my wife two days earlier when she went to pick up a tire that had already been paid for. she kept insisting that her mechanics were experienced and knew how to replace tires. I don't doubt that at all, but the fact remains that they broke my sensors and she refused to do the honorable thing and fix the problem they caused. as I stated earlier, I usually avoid this service station because I have seen their shoddy work and extremely poor customer service. there are plenty of other honest mechanics in the area (I frequent several of them for regular maintenance and service). I will never go back to this place of my own will. read more

I take my Volkswagen here because the dealership constantly wants to rip me off with labor charges. These people always repair my car correctly the first time. I still use my dealer for my oil changes and things like that though, just so they can check any recalls. The only problem with College Park Auto Service is that there is no waiting area, so you always have to drop your car off. read more

After some poor experiences with up-selling and just bad mechanics at the nearby NTB, I gave these guys a try. They're the best shop I've ever encountered. Take the car in in the morning, get a call around noon with a quote, pick the car up by the end of the day. My wife and I share a used car (about 10 years old). We bring it here for oil changes and have had to get some other work done (replaced tire, starter, radiator) over the years. Every experience has been direct and trustworthy, and I have no problem recommending this shop. Also of note, the WMATA 83 bus route passes right by this shop on a consistent basis throughout the day, if you need rides to and from. read more

Toyota Camry 2002 had an A/C problem. Asked College Park Gulf to check it out and fix it. Gave me an estimate of $950 (New Compressor and Re-charge Freon). I asked them NOT to work on it. Took my Camry to another Gas station CITGO located at 7101 Reisterstown Road, Baltimore MD (410-415-6880). They found a faulty valve which was replaced and re-charged Freon. Cost was $125. I live in the neighborhood of this auto service now Gulf,and have been taking my car there for urgent issues since its close to home. The service used to be very good. The service that I received was not good. I was told that I needed a pressure sensor replaced to remove the yellow check engine light. it was replaced but the engine light remained in. I took it to another shop and they recommended that I take it back since its under warranty. I took it back and was told its another problem and they wouldn't fix it even when I paid for the service. Also, to fix the screeching and burning, my brake pads and caliper was replaced..and the noise was gone. the noise came back...again, I took it back under warranty so they can fix the problem and was told it wasn't the caliper or brakes that it needed another baring that would cost 250. I told them I'm not using their service. They rip you off. If you take your car there make sure you get in writing their diagnosis and recommendations and receipt of services. My receipts did not state recommendations or when to bring car back for services. The female cashier worker is hard to understand and needs to be patient and more courteous. read more

Like the other customers i have a great amount of respect for this business. I have been taking my cars to college park auto service for several years, i always trusted them and never felt overwhelmed about what they charged until recently. I was told i needed a catalytic converter, ofcourse i looked it up & it was an expensive repair. The problem i had was after paying over a $1,000 for this repair i left there to see my check engine light was on, it was not before the repair. I found out from autozone i needed oxygen sensors, another mechanic told me during the replacement of my cat converter something was unhooked or damaged & that i had unfinished business with college park auto service & that it should be free, well according to them this was a new problem and my bill would me another $540, feeling pretty overwhelmed at this point and not knowing whether to trust them or not. Anyway i decided to purchase the sensors and have them replaced elsewhere, i saved $210.00. ZERO stars. I brought my car here for a coolant sensor replacement, new ac lines and a brake adjustment. Ac works great now but now my cooling fan runs no matter if engine is cold or warm, I have 8 codes set from damage to my map sensor and throttle position sensor and brakes feel way too tight and stopping feels scary. Maybe more but I'm waiting for another place to fix the problems created by College park Gulf. When I tried talking calmly to the little Asian lady behind the counter she got aggressive verbally telling me that no problems with my car were created by them. I spoke to 3 different mechanics since then and they all said that theses sensors were damaged by College park gulf. I mean come on who sends you away with 8 codes that weren't there when you dropped car off? If you want to get scammed into extra repairs created by your mechanic please go to College Park Gulf.
