We love taking our 4 year old here. It's a nice charming, old town style farm with an ice cream shop. Their flavors are to die for, especially the run raisin and I once had a pineapple soft serve which was delicious too. They have their cows right near by and it's fun to see them, especially when we go with the kiddo. My only complaint is the comfort level of visiting. sometimes it's too crowded and there are not enough places to sit. There are a lot of flies and bugs. I don't expect them to do anything t about that. It's the nature of it being a farm. But if you're someone who is bothered by that sort of thing it's a worthwhile data point to have. Lastly, there's only a portapotty, which is basically impossible to use if you're a 4 year old girl who is terrified of it or a 40 year old woman who can't squat in a tight place. So if you go with your kids, make sure they go before you leave the house. Otherwise you'll end up like me, standing there holding 3 rapidly melting cone in the 90 degree heat, while dad takes the 4 year old to the portapotty which takes about 10 min because she's scared of it. Can you guess what happened to those cones? None of those complaints are deal breakers though. read more

This place is the best.Although the ice cream is expensive. All the ice cream is fresh from their own cows and delicious.My favorite is the Rum Raisin and toasted almond Ice cream.It is a great summer hang out spot for families in the country, since it is a farm.. Great place for ice cream. Wide selection of flavors of hard ice cream. Also has yogurt, soft serve, and soft serve blends. There is plenty of space to sit, some have umbrellas to help shade from the sun. There is a little play tractor for children, and there is a pasture and cows! The ice cream itself tasted delicious. They let you sample a couple if you want. I got the haystack (coconut toasted almond) and coconut chocolate chip. Generous portion sizes too. read more

Yum. Yum. Yum. That is all. No, seriously, I liked all the fun flavors. They even have one with Grape Nuts! My friend had the black raspberry I believe, and I had chocolate peanut butter. Both were very creamy and rich. I think I liked the black raspberry better than the one I had, but they were both tasty! The store itself is so cute on the little farm. I live in California but was visiting a friend in New Jersey and we drove to Maine for the weekend. On the way back it was pretty hot so I looked up ice cream on Yelp and we backtracked from Massachusetts just to try this place! It was totally worth it! My friend even commented that it was a fun side excursion! If I'm ever back in the area, I would definitely return! read more

Found this place by accident when my Wife and I were on our way home from our favorite spa in Somers. Everything we have had from this creamery has been fantastic. We try to make it to the sap a few times a year and now we have added this to our trip. I have a soft spot for mint chocolate chip ice cream and I think they have the best I have had to date. The scenery adds to the experience since it is right on a dairy farm. They have a few tables for seating and everything is kept very clean. If you are in the area or looking for a new place to try I suggest making the trip. read more

The setting is wonderful, on a hilltop farm, and when we were there we were greeted by a farm cat who apparently LOVED ice cream as much as we did. It was pretty amusing. No body should be surprised that Collins Creamery got five stars on Yelp. It is really a neighborhood gem. Not only is the ice cream flavorful and rich but it is also very affordable. You could not beat the price... there is no reason to buy Ben and Jerry at the BigY if you could get a whole quart for $6.50. Some of my favorite are black cherry and peanut butter cup. The setting is beautiful; it is truly the 'quiet side of town'. And perhaps the only complaint I have would be the only amount of flies in a hot summer night. read more

Very good ice cream! I tried grape nut and compost? It was like a brownie based chocolate. That's what I think it's called. As another reviewer pointed out, the ice cream here was very creamy. Made a day trip based on a "best ice cream" by state article. Perhaps the author missed Rich Farm in Oxford. The ice cream itself was fine and if we had ordered vanilla, chocolate or other flavor where you don't expect "stuff" to be in it, we all would have been really satisfied. The four of us ordered strawberry, cow chip, toasted almond and cookies and cream. We all had the same complaint; no 'stuff'. I had a regular Cow Chip waffle cone. It literally had one walnut and a few insignificant white and milk chocolate chips. The portions were large and the ice cream itself was good, just not great. Can't say it was worth the trip when Rich's is 15 mins from home. read more

This may just be the best place on earth. There are a lot of ice cream places around, but this place takes it to another level. I have never brought someone there who hasn't said "this may be the best ice cream I've ever had." They have a bunch of different flavors and they change it up with the seasons... my all time favorite - Apple Crisp! The setting is great too. The farm cats are funny, and they occasionally have some cows in the fenced in area right there. But the setting is nothing compared to the ridiculously awesome ice cream!!! read more

Collins is our favorite place to go for Ice Cream. They're ice cream is fresh, super creamy and they have a ton of flavor choices! My favorites are the Red Velvet and Collins Compost. It gets super busy during the hot summer months so be prepared to stand in line for up to a half an hour. It's totally worth the wait! People from all over the area, including MA, flock there to try a scoop or two. It is on a farm so if you do go be prepared to get a few wiffs of cow manure... We live about 5 minute drive up the road so we tend to go there once or twice a week especially during the summer months. I highly recommend giving Collins a try for hard ice cream if you haven't done so already! This is by far and away the best place to get ice cream in the area! read more

I did a whirlwind tour of all the homemade ice cream places in Connecticut and Collins Creamery has absolutely stolen my heart. Far and away the best ice cream I've ever eaten! It's smooth, impossibly rich, and unbelievably fresh. I cannot recommend them enough - they make the best Toasted Almond ice cream on earth, but don't skip their heavenly peppermint stick either! I'm not sure where this has been hiding the last year we've lived in the area, but we are glad we were enlightened. The ice cream is luscious and creamy. The regular cup is HUGE, so I would recommend one scoop on a sugar cone for just the right amount of sweet treat. Collins compost, a brownie ice cream with oreos, is a wonderful flavor but all of them are very good. I find them to be a little light on the mixed in toppings, like the oreos, but that is my only criticism. I love that they have new flavors all the time, and it is a great stop after a couple hours of picking fruit and veggies at Easy Pickin' Orchard which is less than 5 mins away. Pull up a spot on a picnic mat under the trees and hang out for a while, there's no rush to leave the beautiful area. read more
