What a little gem! Found this place while driving up to my mother-law's house from Virginia. She lives in Poughkeepsie so we still had a little ways to go when we decided to see what was near by that we hadn't had before. OMG!! The food was delicious....much more than we could eat at one serving, the prices were reasonable, they were pretty busy and the food came out quickly. Oh, and did I mention they were friendly too? Love this place! Hidden Gem! Portions are large, prices are reasonable and the food is consistently good. I used to go there all the time when I lived in the area, and I still go there occasionally even though I'm an hour away. I usually get the beef rib/chicken combo trays and they hit the spot every time. I'm not Portuguese, but this food gives me a very warm home cooked feeling. Just talking about it is making me hungry! Giant portions. We ordered take out and wish the person taking the order let us know each dinner came with fries & rice. We ordered whole portions and a large side of rice, not realizing we were going to get two weeks worth of rice and enough in each whole portion to feed 4+ people. Served in big trays. Now we have so much rice, we don't know what to do with it. The food was good, but I wish their online menu or the staff taking our order gave some kind of hint that the whole portions are HUGE and that additional sides of rice/fries weren't necessary. read more

Around the corner from I live we order out from this place every other week or so. Food is good, never disappointed with what we order. We usually stick with chicken and ribs full platter which comes with yellow rice and fries or u can sub fries for veggies. Always ask for Bbq sauce as they usually don't ask. Very disappointed... I ordered from here a couple months ago and loved it but today was a completely different experience. I ordered a whole BBQ chicken with salad and black beans. Also a small side order of rice. The food was delivered quickly but they forgot my beans . They did come back with them but by then my chicken and rice were cold. The salad size was so small. For a whole chicken meal I would think you could easily feed 3-4 people but this salad was the size of one persons side salad. The chicken wasn't very juicy or flavorful. Was actually dry. The best part of the meal was the beans so I'm glad that I called and they came back with them. read more

I am Portuguese and was very happy to have a much needed local BBQ place in town. I didn't like the prior BBQ that was there, Luso's, because it wasn't real Portuguese BBQ and the chicken was always underdone. Paulo's is way better and the people that work there are very nice. The chicken is authentic as is the picadinho, grilled pork cutlets (febras) and pork cubes with clams (carne de porco a alentejana). We have also had the grilled cod a few times and it was traditional and excellent. The price is very reasonable. You get a whole chicken with rice and fries for about $15 and it feed 3 to 4 people comfortably. Definately try it. We don't want them to go away. read more

I recommend Paulo's. Great take out menu with portions enough to feed a family of four. My family favorite on the menu is #52 Sauteed Chicken Breast in Lemon Sauce. All their soups taste homemade. We have them call us when they make their collard green soup. It is delicious. read more

Went last night and was very happy. 22$ for a pitcher of sangria was pricey, but really good. The rodizio came with 2 fried bananas, rice, fries, black beans, yucca, and a spicy pico. Most of the meat was cooked to order and delicious, but a bit salty. For dessert there was a cinnamon dusted pineapple served rodizio style. The only bad parts were the overcooked chicken and the inattentive waiters that even forgot my last water- but the rodizio guy was friendly and happy to serve me until I was stuffed. Its ok... There portions come in very weird sizes . When you order "large fries" i expect to get them in some what a small container but they give you large fries in a whole aluminum tray. Use to really enjoy this place, got a nice portion a meat with rice and great French fries, for some dumb reason they changed the fries from these big yummy ones to shoe string fries that are horrible. There is a reason no one has shoe string fries for take out, that are something you can't eat by the time they get home.
