A few years ago both my HVAC units went out. We took quotes from several places but The Colony Air Conditioning came out ahead. Fast forward to this summer and I've had to call for service twice. Once because a short caused my panel to not work and once for an AC Capacitor replacement. These things seem to always happen on the hottest weekends or holidays. My A/C has been giving me some issues the last 3 years. I've known it's on the last legs. Well, I had Colony come out to do my maintenance. The tests were definitely showing it was leaking, and both the evaporator and the condenser were having issues. Colony explained my options, and I wanted to upgrade my system. They were able to come out the next day, install the new units, add two intake vents, a voltage regulator, and a new thermostat, and left the same day. They were very professional. I thought I had reviewed Colony Air a while back, but I guess not. Over 20 years living in Frisco I have used 5 or 6 different air and heating companies, and for the last three or so have used Colony Air. No comparison that Colony is the best of them. Easy scheduling, great communication, and fair pricing. We called them a couple of years ago for an emergency AC fix and they were here very quickly and didn't gouge me. Their yearly service plan is awesome. They came by today for my fall furnace service. Right on time, and sent me both a text reminder and called me prior to coming. What I appreciate the most, and I have dealt with two different technicians for both the spring and fall service, is their recap and suggested services at the end. No exaggerated repair needs, just some suggestions to make my system more efficient and timelines on when these things could become troublesome. I completely trust them. read more

Frank came out today to check on our Carrier AC units as the overflow drain that outlets under the sink had flooded and caused wood floor damage upstairs. When I asked him what the fee schedule was for trip charge and diagnostic he told me. I then asked Frank what he would charge to blow out the drainage hose to ensure it was draining properly and he gave me a price. I then asked him if either of the trip charge or diagnostic fees get credited towards any work that gets completed on the 2 AC units. His response was, "is that how it works in your doctor business?" Frank seemed to be annoyed that I asked him if any portion of the diagnostic or trip fee went toward the overall work invoice. Frank then gave me a price for a filter. I looked it up and Amazon and found it for half the price he quoted. I told him that I would just order the filter myself. He went on to tell me that, unless it was an OEM filter it would likely not have the same performance as what he was recommending. After I told him I would order the filter myself Frank then asked me "Do you still want me to complete the diagnostics on the 2 units?" I told him "yes, that is what I am being billed for correct?" He then nodded and continued to work on the units. Finally, Frank came back and told me he did not think the drainage hose was draining properly due to the back pressure he was getting from his equipment. I asked him if he could disconnect the drainage hose from the P trap under the sink to see if he could blow air through it or pour hot water through it to ensure uninhibited water flow (as I have had this done with other AC companies). Frank's response was, "I am not a plumber. That is work you would pay a plumber to do." I then asked Frank if I would still be charged for clearing the drainage pipe even though we are uncertain if it is draining correctly. Frank told me, "yes, you will get charged 1/2 because I still get paid for the attempt even though it was unsuccessful." After I paid the invoice, I asked Frank if the muddy water that had been sprayed from the plumbing fixture under the sink had been cleaned up. (When Frank pushed pressurized air through the drainage hose, the plumbing fixture under the sink sprayed murky water underneath the sink cabinet). Frank said, "let me check". He went upstairs and came down about a minute later and told me "all cleaned up." When I went upstairs to inspect I found that Frank had pulled a towel off our bathroom towel rack, used our bath towel to clean up the mess. and then left the bath towel on the floor." In short, I was less than impressed with Frank from Colony AC. I am certain there are fantastic technicians with Colony AC/Heat. I'm just not sure that Frank is fair and professional in his business practices. read more

Called this company regarding a broken Carrier Infinity thermostat. They scheduled me in that day between 1and 5. Received call and text at 2:45 that said Rene would be arriving within 30 minutes. Ok that's just great service right there comparably speaking. Text was informative and introduced Rene with a photo and his work experience. Rene showed up in about 15 minutes. Very nice and professional upon arrival and during the call. He looked at the thermostat checked the unit upstairs and agreed that it was just the thermostat. I expected him to have to order the thermostat because it was expensive, but no... he came prepared based upon what I told the gentleman when I made the appointment. Kudos to the company for such communication. While he was here, he pointed out future problems that may arise, checked and cleaned the outside unit for us. Overall, I will be going back to them for service. Even though I didn't buy the offered service plan, which I don't usually do anyway, they will be the first call when I need something done!!! I called when we got back from vacation and they were out next day and even apologized that we had to experience this and it is quite common. So I wrote a poor review some time ago - and Colony contacted me and it was a polite experience. I am not really sure what I was supposed to do in that case, challenge the licensed tech about their work/estimate? And now a new problem from questionable work product. The catch pan for the AC coil overflowed due to a clog - that does happen of course, but the tech who replaced the coil put so much sealant around the access panel, it's impossible to open (to get to the inside of the drain pipe to clear any debris or clean the coil itself) without tearing that panel door apart. Prior to their work that panel door was sealed with HVAC heat tape and easy to remove. I'm not a tech, but that panel should be far easier to remove. Another case of "should I challenge the tech on their work?" While this work was done a long time ago, I don't think that is relevant. read more

Staff is very knowledgeable and pleasant to work with. They all observed social distancing and wore masks and required us to do the same which made us feel very safe. For appointments, they called about an hour prior to let us know they are on the way. Finally they cleaned up after the job. Just could not asked for a better team. I hold back the last star primarily due to its cost. 1- They charged $89 for the initial diagnostic exam. When they arrived, they wanted to charge another $150 to find that the evaporator coil leaked and needs replacement. After I reminded our initial phone discussion, the extra charge was waived. 2- Cost to install a new replacement coil is $1305. I was told it takes 4 to 8 hrs for 2 persons. The actual hr was 3 which turns out to be $200+ per hour. This rate is ridiculous. I am just disappointed and wish they can be more transparent! read more

I am so happy my friend referred me to Colony Air Conditioning & Heating. They are fantastic. During peak summer hours I thought there was something wrong with my a/c, the temp wasn't holding and it raiser higher than I'm used to. I know my system was working but I felt like something was wrong. When I called around, 3 different companies told me this was normal and to schedule an appointment for fall maintenance because they were too busy with real issues. I didn't give up! My friend referred me to this team and not only did they take me seriously, they made an appointment with me that week. I'm glad I was persistent because my instincts were right. Even during peak summer, I should not see a 10 degree variance when I hold the temperature. It took them 5 minutes to determine my Freon was low and needed to be replenished. Charlie came to my house and took care of everything. He took time to answer all my questions and address any concerns I had. Very responsive. Came out same day within an hour of phone call. Neither my upstairs or downstairs heaters were working properly. Charlie didn't find anything wrong with the downstairs unit after using jumpers to start it, it cycled on/off several times. Upstairs has always been odd working on/off - he suspects a bad motherboard and gave me best guesstimate. Told him I may try to replace that myself. My wife contacted a DFW area AC company to do a preventative maintenance in April. They came out and told us that we had a coolant leak and that it had to be fixed for ~$900. Our unit is reasonably new, so I was surprised and skeptical. Luckily we contacted Colony Air and told them about our experience, requesting a second opinion. Rene V. Came out within a couple of days, evaluated the whole system and found nothing wrong (no charge either). Moreover, he showed us that the last company didn't even wash down the coils (typically included in PMs). Decided I wanted a second opinion and called out Colony AC. Within 2 hours I had Rene V. come out and diagnosed the problem. I don't usually feel the need to tell my story about bad service as it's kind of the norm anymore. I selected Colony A/C because of their 5 star ratings. Had a tech come out in April and after 10 minutes was told that I needed a new compressor and new "lines" because I have a leak! New compressor and lines were going to cost me $7700 and change. I instructed him to just add the refrigerant...which he did at a price of $672.75 plus the cost of $89.00 for just coming out for a grand total of $761.75. He told me that "it probably won't last a week and won't last even a month". Six weeks later, it's still fully charged (I bought my own AC manifold gauge set for less than $100 on Amazon) and also the refrigerant. Very disappointed with this company and won't be using nor referring this firm ever again! 2 stars because my A/C is still going strong. read more

Charles called to notify me of his approximate arrival time. He wore a mask and gloves, as well as donning covers over his shoes before entering the house. I have used Colony HVAC ever since I moved to Frisco and I am always impressed by the service and attention to detail. One Sunday evening this summer I had to call after hours because my AC compressor began making a loud noise. I called at 6:00 pm. The on-call tech called me back and arrived at at 9:30 pm.
