One suggestion - Go to another location!!! As other reviews state, color me mine is fun. However at this particular location the brushes are worn out COMPLETELY!! I have no idea why they give you those old and in bad shape brushes. Also the selection (maybe because of covid?) is not as big. This is still however "ok" when all you're trying to do is to have some fun, but when the service is also bad then there's a problem. As soon as we come in, the employee seems to be bothered. Her name is Zareth, which by the way she never mentioned, but that's because she didn't want to talk to us. The one thing she was quickly to say was that "the cheapest things they have are mugs, and those are about $20-something" we never asked for a price, but maybe we were just being prejudged. We stayed because it was someone's birthday and didn't want to ruin it. Zareth took about 10 minutes after we sat down to bring us the colors we asked for, which they only give you 5 to start with. This employee decided to disappear after that, we had to get up and go look for her to ask for more colors. The store was not busy. Long story short, this woman made it uncomfortable to be there. She also keep on repeating they were ready to close since 5:30 but they close at 6pm. We paid at 5:58pm so we were out of there in time. Very cute and cozy craft place. My daughter was invited to a birthday party where they got to paint their own piece. After a week, it was fired and she was able to take it home. A few months later, it was my 8th anniversary (pottery) so I decided to take my wife here and paint our own piece. Pretty straight forward, you buy a piece, sit down and start painting. They have a wall of glaze paints where you can choose whatever colors you want. When you are done, hand them the piece and go home. A week later you come back and pick up the finished piece. Only thing I can complain about is that they give you this little tray with a quarter sized dimple in it to hold the paint. I bought a 14" vase so had to go back and forth about 20 times to get enough paint to cover the vase. I know. It is so that people don't waste the paint. But it makes it so inconvenient. Definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to spend some time with a loved one chatting while they make something unique. Now that we have a vase and a shallow bowl, we have no idea what to do with it. read more

UPDATE: since I wrote the review below I've gone back to pick up my items which turned out great. The owner let me know she has brushes in better condition behind the counter that you can ask for. I still think if you want to do line work you should bring a good brush but I thought it was only fair to inform of facts. Original post: This review is being written during covid restrictions. That being said I had a great time painting with my family. Clean shop. Attentive employee. My one and only complaint/ heads up for people who go into this with an artist mentality or expectation: BRING YOUR OWN BRUSHES! If you aren't very artsy you sure won't be with these old worn brushes. If you are a good artist you'll be frustrated you can't work with these tools. Based upon my first experience at this Color Me Mine, having spent nearly $500 for a my daughter's birthday party, I would never return. My party was rushed to complete large ceramic pieces, leading to an uncomfortable experience. Despite the place being virtually empty, they charged us an extra $50 for time, while some members of our party finished up, without confirming our agreement to the fee. What makes no sense about this fee, is that if I simply walked in instead of reserving a time, the standard studio fee would have covered all day! Also, the place is small and cramped with no air conditioning. Boooo to Color Me Mine for making a sour experience for the person financing the party. read more

Every now and then you just need the time to be creative and this is totally a fun way to do that. Bring the kids or bring a date, there's something to paint for everyone. Good clean fun. I went because I got to take my residential treatment eating disorders kids for an outing; I think I would've felt dorky going without being told to, because Color Me Mine reminds me of a place pretty much just like it back in Northridge 20 years ago, but I was totally excited to go with my kids. Color Me Mine is a place with a ton of greenware ceramics (greenware=fired once, but needs glaze and a second firing), ranging from useful items like mugs, plates, serving bowls and teapots, to the less-useful and more whimsical, like animal-shaped coin banks, ceramic motorcycles, and dreidels. You pay a flat fee to paint (adults, $10, kids less) and then choose the item/s you want to paint; each is individually priced. All the paints are included - yes, paint, because yeah they're glazes (actual term: underglaze), but unlike regular ol' traditional glaze, these come in squirt bottles and bright rainbow colors and you just paint them on and don't have to wet the ceramic's surface. You're allowed as long as you want for decorating, and for those less artistically inclined, they have a basket of stencils. I was pleased - and horribly intimidated - by some examples set out, and while I was lamenting my own painting skills, at the same time I was glad that the whole shindig was definitely marketed in that way to show adults that their setup isn't just for kids mucking around, but you could make something truly gorgeous or unique. If you get bored or tired and want to leave before you've finished decorating, they'll hold your piece and you can come back, although you'll have to pay a session fee again. If you do finish (I'm sure 95% of customers do in one shot), you leave your item with them so they can fire it, then return two days later to pick it up. The glazes and ceramics ARE safe for eating off of. Color Me Mine hosts birthday parties, gives group discounts, and will actually make you a party-to-go, so you can decorate your item at home. Gift certificates are also available and would make a cool present for a young'un. This would be a really fun place to take your kid on a Sunday, and probably a non-arthritic grandma would like it too, or your cat will love you if you make it a bowl with its name on it. The employees were really nice and helpful and can give advice if you'd like. My only real qualm is that dang, the ceramic items are expensive. I had a budget for the kids and had to give them a spending limit, but keeping it around $13-14 for an item DRASTICALLY limited our choices. Keeping in mind the additional session fee, this gets expensive fast, which for me knocked off a star; overall, I like Color Me Mine. read more

My sister in law wanted to create a fun Father's Day gift for my brother and I decided to tag along. The place is well kept, clean and the woman at the desk was friendly and helpful. She helped at the beginning and then left us to our own device. We came on a week day around lunch time so it was very quiet but I can only imagine that it must get busy and loud on the weekends with families and kids. This place is so much fun, especially when you do this with a group of friends and a bottle of wine! I know some people think its expensive, but you do know what you are paying for so there should be no surprises. This location on 2nd street is great so you are paying for good service and good fun, plus you will have a nice gift or keepsake to use for years to come (until you drop it!). A couple of tips: Tip! If the girls go out of their way to make your experience enjoyable, show some love with a couple of bucks! Groupon - read it before you buy/use it. I am amazed at how many people use Groupons and they don't even pay attention to what the deal is and then complain that they are not getting what they thought - its written right on the Groupon. Had a great time eating dinner in Belmont Shore, while window shopping with my wife, we came across Color Me Mine. We decided to give it a try. I painted a cup, my wife painted a dog bowl. It was fun! They will fire it and have it ready in a week. Abby was helpful explaining how pencil lines will burn off, and no need to paint areas with white paint. (Just don't paint that area), and masking tape can be used to paint straight lines. We stayed about two hours. Can't wait to see our finished pieces. read more

I came here for a group date. After a month of regular use, my boyfriend's mug completely shattered. After a few months of light use, my mug's glaze was noticeably cracking and chipping at the sides. I have since found a place in northern california that pretty much sells the same thing, but the wares I've made from there have lasted more than a year. I've also taken a ceramics class at a local community college so I know that the quality could be a lot better. Customer service was excellent and it was fun painting our own ceramics. Maybe the things at color me mine are meant more for decoration. But for me, most of the fun is being able to actually use it. read more

this place is great for a nice quiet evening- good for bonding. make sure you have enough time though- who ever thought i could sit still and paint a dinosaur for 3+ hours? yes, they are a little expensive. only improvements i would make is a) make the palettes larger! i had to get up and get more paint like twenty times. and b) make cushier seats. my bum hurt after sitting there being artsy for so long on a wooden stool. oh, and c) parking sucks so bad! be prepared to walk. overall though it was a cute little venue, and if you sit facing the window you can people watch as well, which, since in long beach is always fun :). read more

The oldest spawn and I went to lunch at Shorehouse Cafe and decided to pop into Color Me Mine since we were sufficiently stuffed. Upon arriving the friendly staff will ask you if you've been there before. Since it had been almost 8 years we said that we needed a refresher. The girl informed us we can sit anywhere we would like (there are tables/chairs that are bar height and normal dining table height). We chose a bar height. On the table is paper tablecloth that allows you to sketch your ideas, wipe off your brushes, etc. Additionally there is a ceramic square that shows you all of the colors available and what it would look like if it was one coat or 3-4 coats. We were instructed that it's $10 for adults and $7 for children in addition to the cost of the ceramic. There is no time limit - at least not one that we were told about. The ceramics had a variety of prices (they are listed on the bottom in pencil but make sure you don't break it - you break it, you buy it). My daughter chose a fairy jewelry box for $25 and I chose a large mug for $18. After choosing your ceramic, you can now sketch out your designs on the paper tablecloth. While sketching I recommend noting the colors that you would like to use. You are able to have 5 colors, at first, but most certainly can have additional colors for no additional charge. There is a design center that allows you to look at books, pictures, designs on the internet that you can't print, stencils, masking tape, pencils, rulers, sponges, etc. Once you list your paint numbers, the worker will get the paint for you on a palette and number each one for you. Remember - paint always dries darker. If you need additional paint, you can get it yourself or the worker can assist you. Once you are finished you advise the worker and then you pay. Our ceramic will be ready 5 days from today after 1pm. Overall we had a great experience. Good bonding time and we enjoyed watching each other come up with some great ideas and we were able to assist one another. At the end of it our total was a little more than $60. Expensive? Perhaps...but it was a great time so for sure memorable. read more

We were driving around that area, and we decided to go in since my kids love to paint. The employee was very nice, and she went around the tables from time to time to check up on people. I think the location was great; there were many fun shops and cafes nearby. There were a lot of different options to choose from, and both of my kids chose piggy banks. The templates were very easy to use, and the price was reasonable. There were a lot of kids there when we went, so the atmosphere was bright and cheery. After my kids were done, they said they had a very fun time. I definitely recommend this place; it is a great spot to take your kids to! read more

My girlfriend and I visited Color Me Mine during our trip to Long Beach - it was so much fun! The store is really clean and cozy, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They have a wide array of pottery pieces to choose from, from bowls and cups to cool little animal figurines; all we had to do was pick what we wanted to paint, and the employees showed us how to get started. It's easy and fun, and we literally spent hours in the store. I initially thought it would be a slow afternoon when my girlfriend suggested going to color me mine, but I had such a great time! It's especially amusing when you make a mess of the painting and have to start all over (which is as easy as rinsing off the paint). We painted a clock, which turned out beautifully and is now hanging on my room wall. It tells the time AND reminds me of my first trip with my girlfriend - totally worth every penny!! This seems like a great place for all ages - when I was there, there were young and old couples, a group of friends who looked like they just got off work, as well as parents with their children. Definitely a fun group activity for family and friends. To top things off, the store is located around a host of restaurants and dessert stores, perfect for satisfying post-activity hunger. read more

This place is fun. It's a cute date idea -- I like to fire up my creative juices and paint me some ceramics (that I'll hide in my cupboards forever because they're so embarrassingly bad.) Still, it's a fun little thing to occupy a couple hours. I've never been to another location, but this one was calm on the Saturday late afternoon we commandeered a painting table. I copped out with a plate; my husband did a mug. They're pretty decent quality -- we use the dishes regularly and they've never chipped or broken. Then again, dinnerware longevity is probably not the top reason you're stopping by Color Me Mine. The service was fine. Minus one star because yes, the prices are pretty outrageous. Minus one-half star because of the lousy piece selection. Minus one-half star for the long wait time. read more

I had never been to a CMM before my visit to the 2nd Street location. I went with my boyfriend and his two young nieces. The plan was to help them paint some Valentine's Day gifts for their parents. You pay a flat fee to paint - $7 for kids and $10 for adults. You also pay for your ceramic piece.. and that's where it gets expensive. I think the cheapest thing I saw was a light switch cover for $11. The pieces are quite pricey. I don't know a thing about ceramics so maybe this is the norm. I think the whole thing ran $60 for the girls to paint a medium sized box and a picture frame. Very overpriced, but also a really fun and creative concept. I'm torn.. there are all sorts of fun ideas and stencils to use, but it's so darn expensive. read more

I have always always wondered about this place, I didn't exactly know how it worked but I loved the whole idea of painting cute ceramics and taking it home when you're done. I was in long beach on Sunday and happened to see color Me mine and being the curious person that I am I wanted to stop by and see it for myself. They have tons of pre-made ceramics items on the shelf, each is by category; kids, home, garden, etc. You get to pick whatever you want and paint whatever you want on it. First step is to pick what you want to paint, then sit on any table and one of the friendly assistant will come to you with a pallet of colors to choose from. You can pick up to 5 colors per person but more than 5 is okay also. They show you what the colors will look like if you put on 1 layer versus 3 layers and so on. There is also a design center to help you get creative; there are stamps, pictures, books and even a computer to search the internet for pictures or ideas. They bring the colors you have picked in a small pallet, they only give you a small amount but you can always ask to refill the colors at anytime. A friend and myself picked two coffee mugs. The coffee mugs are about $16+ per cup and the paint is $10.00 per person. After you have finished your lovely painting you just leave it there, pay and come back 5 days later to pick it up. They keep it to put a finish coat on it before you can bring it home. I reallie love this place, it definitely made me feel like a kid again. There was a birthday party here that day, a cute kid and a bunch of his adorable friends celebrated a birthday here with pizza, drinks and balloons as they painted away. Too cute....i love it! When I have kids I will definitely bring my kids here, such a perfect place for family fun! this is also a great gift idea...its very personalized and adorable, and you can use it too. I am officially a fan of Color me mine! I would love to have my birthday party here =) P.S. They also do private parties...it will probably cost an arm and leg! they also have Color Me Mine To-Go....where you bring all that stuff home and paint from the comfort of your own home...and for an assistant to be there they charge you $40 per employee. I used to always go here as a kid and one day while a friend and I were a bit tipsy we bought a living social deal for 7$ for 15$ worth of credit. They have plenty of fun things to choose from to paint on ranging from functional items for the kitchen to objects that are simply for decoration. It is $10 for the table fee and you can use an unlimited amount of paint. I chose a mug which was $18 and my friend chose a $35 dog bowl. I think these prices are a bit expensive considering it is basic ceramic. The customer service was mediocre. We weren't given any direction or offered paint. We had to approach the employees after we had seen them greet and offer other tables paint. It was pretty slow too. No excuse for that. The experience was fun and would be great for kids, but without the discount my simple mug runs for a hefty price of $30. I would return, but not for another few years when I need another expensive mug. read more

If I could give this place lower than 1 star I would. Decided to bring our daughter here for her birthday and the manager was very rude to us. She did not let my husband and I stay because she said if we stayed she could not have more customers come in if they are coming in last minute. We had already made the reservation in advance. But since my husband and I were not going to paint we had to leave and come back. Other people were allowed to stay even when they werent painting. After letting her know she was under 18 and we couldn't leave her alone someone had to be there she began to say she just assumed that she was older. She then said that one of us could stay but with a very rude tone. She then continued to say that since their are COVID restrictions we had to follow these guidelines and if we didnt want to we would be kicked out and our daughter would not be allowed to paint. I love Color Me Mine! It gives me the chance to be creative and make my own stuff. I agree with another Yelper that I wish there were more choices of things to paint, but they do have a decent selection. I've made a clock, painted bears, made a picture frame, etc. I don't know if they have a frequent customer card, but they should (maybe I should ask). They staff is friendly and offers help if you need any. They get the paint for you and they have a selection of different stencils you can use which I think is pretty neat when it's hard for me to write words with a paintbrush =P The only downside are the prices, but it's a great place to go if you want to make something for that special someone. read more

I tried using a groupon that I purchased and the girl that was working didn't know what to do with it. She called somebody and was still not clear. The owner or manager showed up and was unprofessional and rude. After being a long time customer and being treated so poorly trying to use a groupon on, I will not be back.
