One of the best go to location for wholesale fabric, spools of ribbon, party /special occasion supplies store. I have been coming to FB since the 90s. Everything here is reasonably priced & affordable. Pretty much all of my special occasions always had something from Fabric Barn. I have purchased 100s of spools of ribbons, personalized ribbons, baby shower favors supplies, party supplies, bags, round mirrors for centerpieces, wedding accessories including my veil and (believe it or not) my wedding dress. Service is hit & miss. Depending on the clientele & how busy it is, you may get helped quickly or you have to wait until the ladies finish chatting with coworkers or clienteles. Parking is tight on weekends but the flow of customers coming and going out of FB has never made me drive around the block more than once or twice. Because FB has always had what I needed. Missing Joan Fabrics? This is your place! My partner wanted to pick up some fabric and thread. Almost all of the stores have faded away in favor of Amazon/ online. To me this was a memory of being out with my mom in the old days before Bezos. All sorts of little party favors and decorations. We walked out with thread, cloth and Mardi Gras decorations. Great service and I don't think the prices were too bad. All that was missing was mothball smells. Came in on 02/15/25 This is my go-to place for anything arts & crafts. I came in on this day specifically for satin ribbon to make ribbon leis. They have all the colors and sizes I need. They also have different types of ribbons: Organza, Satin, Grosgrain and Acetate for example. So many to choose from. They have everything from party supplies to centerpiece accents, glue guns and glue to needles and modge podge. It's a huge building with a lot of stuff. Now, let's talk about prices. You're basically paying for the convenience of not having to drive out to Los Angeles to get it cheaper. A roll of ribbon here is $12.99 before tax. In L.A., it's half the price. I'm not trying to drive customers to go to L.A., I'm just saying, you're literally paying for the convenience. Which is why I come here. If someone asks me to make a lei, I'll come here to get the supplies. But if I'm doing multiple leis, I'll definitely make my way to L.A. The staff is nice. They won't offer you help unless you ask for it, just FYI. But they are helpful once you ask. Overall, 7/10. Used to be the number one store to go to for ribbons, craft supplies and some fabric. You could purchase ribbon by the inch. A few years ago it must have been sold. Now ribbon only sold by the spool. Prices are much higher (even filtering in inflation). Totally different store than it was for many many years. The store is dirty, a lot of the items (specially the textiles) don't have prices, customer service is non existent, they have a sub charge for using a credit card. I love being back in Long Beach and was happy to see that the Fabric Barn is up and running, although a mini version of what it used to be. It is the craft portion of the store that is open for business. What I love about this place is that it has all your basic needs for crafting at pennies on the dollar of a price. I love this store and have shopped here on and off for years. Since I've been making masks. I thought Fabric Barn. Hadn't been in about 8 years. Was surprised not as much fabric as prior years. It's in the back of the store on bolts. But great prints and just what I was looking for. And I didn't have to go to downtown LA where with the Covid 19 going on their gouging their prices......... BEST PRICE in town for 1/4 elastic. I've already gone thru 200 yards and need to get more. I have such mixed feeling about this place. I love it and hate it. They have been here forever, so many years. I've shopped here many times. The prices are low, usually. But you have to be careful. REALLY CAREFUL. Sometimes, you are better off with a coupon at JoAnns or Michaels. They usually have a great selection of ribbons, notions and crafting items. But, sometimes they are simply out of stock. UGH. Out of stock on regular items. The customer service is sometimes good and sometimes not. Bring cash, as they can not always take a credit card. It's all kind of drab and run down. Parking is tricky, unless you get lucky. Yes, I've made the trek there only to discover it is closed. Even after calling to verify that they are open. This is not a recipe for happiness. The inconsistency makes me hesitant to go. Yes, I've gotten great bargains and have been thrilled. But too many negatives, to fully recommend it without a warning. Look, I write about this place because I know so few people will actually get here unless they see it a few times over. Recently, the most koolest kidder Katie B. had a Yelp Retro event and I -- went country pin-up girl. So I needed a country straw hat. $2.60. And a 2" butterfly (12 for $3 or something that cheap) to put next to my Yelp pin on my hat But I could have easily gotten a black crow, bird nest, eggs, and sparrows to decorate my hat. Many of these items you can get, wire wrap to a stick pin, and decorate a $5 bouquet of flowers to make it look like a $40 arrangement. Stores such as Jo-Ann's and Michael's are just out of the way for me so I made a visit to my local independent fabric store in search of materials needed for a little DIY project. I came in on my lunch break and didn't expect it to be so busy in the middle of the week. They don't seem very welcoming here, no acknowledgments from the workers, but if you do ask for help, they will come to your aid. They have a good selection of crafty stuff but I do agree with previous reviewers that selection of fabric is lacking. Lucky for me, I just needed some solid black fabric and settled on some satin at $2.50 a yard. I have never bought fabric before so I was unsure how to go about it. I approached another customer who was passing by if she's ever bought fabric. She told me she just has them cut it for her. After hearing that, I went to the register to ask and a worker came over to make the cut. I suppose I could have done it myself with the yard stick being in place but I doubted how big a yard of fabric really was. I always imagined 1 yard x 1 yard but that's not the case. 1 yard of fabric turned out to be way more than I needed but at least it was only $2.50. I also needed some lace and the sign said something like you must purchase a minimum of 5 yards, or was it 10? Thank goodness a worker was right there, as I told her that she's probably more faster at measuring out the minimum needed. I mentioned I just needed one yard and she said to just disregard the sign. She saved me from having to buy more stretchy lace than was necessary. I was able to find just about everything else I needed for my little project. I came out of there spending under $9 for five items on my list. At the time I got there, there wasn't any parking in front of the building on Anaheim St. I had to park around the corner. Unfortunately, it was a hot day and there isn't any A/C since it's such an old building. I would avoid coming here during a heatwave. If ever I need more crafty materials, I would return. I should have checked this place out sooner. I noticed they have better masks for a masquerade party than a chain store I visited in the past. read more

This is my go to place for many things! I used to come here regularly for my art show supplies. Someone mentioned not to let the name kid you... It has more notions and trimmings then fabric. Once upon a time, it had bolts and bolts of fabric but now the rolls of ribbon you cut yourself, must be more profitable for them. I buy my organza bags for my jewelry and my plastic bags with different designs on them as the bags I use to put the organza bags in and for other items. You can buy things retail or resale if you have a resale # You save about 30-40% buying in bulk. The parking is basically on the street so it's best to try not to come on the weekend. If you need lace, ribbon, elastic or party supplies like shower favors or wedding accessories~ this is the place!! read more

I do recommend it, though it seems that things add up quickly here. It might be cheaper to check out places like Long Beach Depot for Creative Reuse first (see my review). Great selection of ribbon, they have tulle, organza, satin and grosgrain along with some fancier fashion ribbon. 25 yard spools run $2-3 dollar for grosgrain which is a pretty good price. They also have some nice trims by the yard you can cut yourself or on a spool. I got a 50 yard spool of bias tape for $8. They had a small selection of fabric with several nice cotton prints between $2 and $3 a yard. You cut the fabric yourself which I really like. Fabric Barn isn't in the nicest part of town and parking is right on the street but it's definitely a place I will go back to. They take all major credits cards. read more

I came in with a garment that was too short for me and explained to the ladies working that I wanted to add a panel of fabric to make it taller. I showed the workers the garment and how thin the fabric was (they pointed out that it was rayon.) The fabric selection wasn't that great so there wasn't an exact match or anything even close. They showed me a thick, heavy stretchy fabric that was like a tablecloth or like the top of a pair of maternity jeans. I asked more than once, "are you sure it's okay to sew this heavy fabric to my thin-fabric garment? Are you sure that it won't rip the thin fabric?" and they kept telling me no, so I bought $13 worth of the fabric they recommended. I took the heavy fabric and my garment to my seamstress, who immediately said the fabric was too heavy and my garment would rip if we sewed the heavy fabric to the thin fabric. This leads me to believe that the ladies working at Fabric Barn were either A) giving bad advice and selling me the wrong product just to make a sale, B) not knowledgeable enough about fabric to know that sewing a heavy fabric to a light fabric is a bad idea, or C) all of the above. read more
