Walked in on a Saturday afternoon, it was busy, but found an available corner table. Lydia, I don't know if she's the boss, or an employee. She was very warm, welcoming us in, and giving us the lowdown of Color Me Mine is all about. If you've never been, it isn't cheap, but it is a lot of fun, and very relaxing. 1. You pick your item(s) that you want to decorate. 2. Grab a table. 3. Employee will wipe down your chosen art piece with water 4. Listen to the instructions 5. Grab your paints, and paintbrush 6. Decorate! The products to decorate average about $20, and there is a $10 fee per person. So, it'll cost about $35/person. What I like about this location is that it is help-yourself, and that Lydia was super friendly and helpful. I've been to other locations, and the employees act like you're bothering them. I would have given this place ZERO stars, but you are not allowed to do that. This is a horrible idea & was a terrible experience from start to finish. Oh, why not pay $30 for a piece of sh*t ceramic frame that YOU have to paint yourself? It is the dumbest idea I've ever heard of, but I thought it would be a cute idea for my toddler to make something for his dad for Father's Day. So, we go into this place on Tuesday afternoon & the FIRST thing I ask is, "if we do this today, will it be ready in time for Father's Day?" "Oh yes!" Says the perky sales-girl, "You're in luck because today is the cut-off to get it in time ... You'll be able to pick it up on Thursday or Friday." Cut to when it's time to check out .... No one had said not to paint over the price and PLU# ... No one really said much of anything, except "what color paints do you want?" So, apparently the picture frame we chose was the last one and the lady took about 10 minutes trying to figure out what the code is so that she could ring it up - grrr, did I mention that my toddler was now totally OVER the whole experience, as was I? Then I give her my credit card to pay, and their system is so antiquated, that anytime the phone rings, it interrupts the credit card machine! So, she had to swipe my card 3 times .... I swear, if there are 3 charges for this place on my credit card statement, I'm going to blow a gasket! I ask them if I should call them on Thursday or Friday to see if my piece is ready, "No, no," they say, "We'll call you." So, I don't hear from them & on Friday afternoon, I call and am told that there is no guarantee that it will be ready for Fathers Day. What in the bloody hell? Really? That's odd, since that is the ONLY reason I wasted my time and money at this ridiculous place! I told the woman on the phone that I was told it would be ready either Thursday or Friday. She argued with me, and then finally, after talking to her manager, she said they would do me a favor and make sure it was ready "before noon" on Saturday. Since they open at 11am, and I was out running errands, I stopped by at 11:15. Got into a big fight with Rolo, (the manager,) who I could not believe had the gall to accuse me of making up the exchange between me and the original sales girl about my piece ready on Thursday or Friday. She reminded me that SHE was doing ME a favor by having it ready before a weeks time! Oh really? Wow. I was absolutely appalled that a) she would openly argue with a paying customer; and b) told me to come back at 12. REALLY? Now, I know she was just trying to wield her ColorMeMine Managerial power over me, because there is no way in the world that I will believe that the piece wasn't ready at 11:15, but would be at 45 minutes later. However, I did return at noon, and my piece was inside of a brown paper bag that looked like it had been used to hold someone's lunch - all crumpled and tattered. Nice. Not to mention, when I opened it up to inspect the item, there was dried food or clay, or something on the backside, and on the edges that won't come off. Very classy. I'm sure that she did those two things on purpose to be rude. This place is a sham. No one seems like they know what is going on ... And the manager is downright surly. I cannot even believe the way I was treated by her. What a horrid experience. Trust me, you would be better off going to Michael's & spending half the money to do it yourself at home! WORST experience ever!! Actually, the service was alright when I was there with my nieces. But here's why I give them only 1 star. This is my first time giving anyone 1 star, because I'm pretty generous with rating normally. 1) I made a reservation with my groupon because it says I need to however when I got there, they say no name found matching my name for that date/time. Thankfully they had one open spot so my nieces were able to paint that day. It would've been a HUGE disappointment to my little nieces if they weren't able to as I promised them days ago that I'd take them there during their Spring break! 2) One of my nieces dropped an unpainted items on the shelf and the item was chipped a little. I understand if it was completely shattered, but for an item that was chipped, do they really have to charge FULL PRICE, which is $25??? They kept saying they cannot sell it, but if they charge me at least what they pay to their supplier (I bet the what they pay to the supplier isn't even $10) with a little mark-up, and then re-sell it to whoever comes in later on for much cheaper discounted price, would make much more sense. This is after we're done with painting there. We don't plan to come back but they say I need to pay $25 and come back to paint it there. What da heck!?!? 3) Left the 2 items that my nieces painted and have them call me when they're done firing them. 2 weeks passed and no phone call. I called them to check and they say "Oops sorry it says to call here but no one called you. Sorry about that" I believe they have sign that says if the items are not picked up within certain days, they destroy the items. I for sure, had forgotten about it completely. What if my niece didn't call today to remind me about what happened to their painted plates?? They would eventually throw away them and then what? Finally, I just think this is the most unprofessional business place in every aspect. I understand this is a small business/franchize but have some business sense and ethics. If they run their shop the way they do now, I see this one closing down in the near future... The overall rating you see here already speaks for itself! read more

I am a fan. I hosted a birthday party for myself there- to treat my friends to the experience of creating art together. The birthday party set up at this location was not ideal. I was disappointed. HOWEVER- creating art as a birthday party theme is tough. Can you mingle AND make satisfying art? Can you give the attention to the work, and still have a good time? So I equate my less than stellar experience as a birthday party hostess up to my love of creating and wanting to focus on painting and feeling weird about mingling and hostessing. In the wake of the disappointing experience, I was given a gift card to give Color Me Mine Porter Ranch a second chance. I now love going. Alone. With one piece to work on at a time. I put on my ear buds and listen to a book (but I should just rock out the tunes they play--- musicals! Disney! Soft rock!) They have generous amounts of paint and help... The pieces are "pricey" but you are making a one of a kind piece of art!!! The pieces bake up so bright and shiny and lovely. It's a lot of fun. read more

Very unprofessional experience owner isn't very understanding and he's completely rude. I will never do business here again. My son came in to make a mug for his father and unfortunately when we came to pick it up it was stained with red. And it was ruined. I explained my grief and time I had spent on it. The owner had terrible reasoning only gave me an option of making a new one but I had no time since his dad birthday was in 3 days he said it would take about a week. The owner was very nasty. She's very helpful with customers, suggesting things to people who get stuck for ideas, and is very sweet and friendly. I highly recommend getting the VIP pass so you don't have to pay studio fees for a year! That's the best offer I've ever seen at a ceramic paint shop. I love this location for Color me Mine. I've been to the one in Calabasas and it just simply does not have the homey and therapeutic feel to it. The staff is always so kind, the place has nice music and tons of paint to choose from and pottery pieces. The studio fee is also less than Calabasas'. I've been to this location multiple times in the last year and had an awesome time every time I've gone. Its great fun no matter your age, for instance I'm 18 and I find this so therapeutic and fun for a relatively cheap price. read more

I've been to this Color Me Mine a handful of times...RELUCTANTLY (it's the closest one to my house). This location has the worst staff I have ever encountered at any establishment. It's not just one of the girls, it's a few of them. I can only assume that they are this way because the head, whom I believe to be the short haired one (I didn't get her name nor do I care), is about as rude as they get. If it were just one incident, I would take the time to write it out and be specific regarding the details of how people (myself and others I've overheard) are treated and spoken to here. Unfortunately, it has been every single time I've been in this store. I will not be going back as I would rather drive to a location as far away as another state than to be subjected to that kind of blood boiling treatment. I took my boys in there yesterday. What a fun time we had. I was greeted by the manager, Rola. She welcomed us and explained the that we pick the piece we want to paint, and on top of that it was $6.00 amount of dollars per painter, plus the items. (my kids were $6.00 each, adults are $10.00). I didn't paint, but I sure was tempted. The place was busy, but she had no problem addressing questions we or others had, and greeted every customer who came in. I must say this location is very limited in the painting ceramics that they have. We are from the valley and temporarily living in Orange County. The south coast metro location has more of a variety and it's not self serve. I love that there is self serve at that location. This location however is self serve so it is quite annoying getting up and down to go get the paint. I don't understand why there is a tip option after you pay when the workers are in the back gossiping or looking at their phones. The least they can do is help out the customers. The area where the self serve paint is located is between other people who are painting which I feel bad for them because they are going to get annoyed by people walking back and forth and bumping into them. We haven't been in to paint for a while but decided to come for a change of pace and "get in touch with our artistic side"! My husband tried out a screen print and found it to be a fun and relaxing way to create something attractive. I saw something I like which had been painted as a sample so I basically copied it. The staff was new to me but very knowledgeable and helpful. The manager, Lydia was also helpful and gave good technical and artistic help. This is a happy place to be on these rainy days. read more

I painted my pieces a week before Christmas as Christmas gifts and this miserable excuse for a location decided to not call me or email me until I called three weeks later asking for a refund because my products were two weeks late. The staff then proceeded to tell me that they called me when they did not and that their location does not utilize email despite asking for it at checkout. The manager is quite possibly the most useless one and said he could not justify issuing me a refund after completely ruining the idea of me fixing the items I painted as Christmas gifts. My mother, granted, old and ignorant went in with my twins toddlers with a Living Social deal... and the lady didn't explain how it worked... I wound up paying more through Living Social than in time/paint/pieces... and they won't credit me!!! The NERVE! Really dissatisfied with the way they do business! Today, I was here with my family. I thought we were coming in for some tranquility art, unfortunately that was not the case when a lady and a few roudy kids walked in. Mom (or sitter) on phone as if no one else was around to hear her. Don't get me wrong I understand we have to take a call here and there, but please be considerate of others. My kids love the ceramic figurines. Recently my daughter painted a puppy dog and my son painted a tyrannosauras rex. I stick to coffee mugs and bowls. The fees are MUCH better with the new owner. The former owner charged an hourly sitting fee which made it VERY expensive if you take time to do the painting of the ceramic. The new owner charges a flat fee for the sitting fee. And, if you get tired and your ceramic is not done, you can take your unfinished piece with you, return and finish painting without an additional fee. That is quite fair! read more

This place is the reason i opened up a yelp account! Every time I come here, I leave absolutely furious! Unfortunately, this is the only one in the area and i promised my niece i would take her painting. After my last bad experience here, i hardly wanted to come back but i sucked it up. My nieces chose the same piece, a 3 slot appetizer plate. They put pretty heavy paint on the inside. I didn't want to stay there all day and the 99 cent blow dryer they had just wasn't cutting it. (With the prices they charge for their pieces and every extra bullsh*t thing they charge for, you would think they would UP it a notch). I also paid more for the splatter paint effect so after having to put a few coats of that (mandatory in order for the effect to work), it would have taken quite some time before it dried. Anyway, i asked if it was cool to come back and finish the piece tomorrow. i had already paid for the piece, paint time AND the extra effect. All i needed to do was come back tomorrow and have the girls finish the bottom of the piece. She was really nice and said yea, of course. I go to give her my card, and knowing these cheeky, greedy pigs, i think to ask, " I am not gonna have to pay for more paint time, right...? Its obviously just because there's no way this is gonna dry today" ... i clearly would not have used any more paint then i would have used today, i simply couldn't complete it cause of their piece of sh*t dryer... so why the helllll would you charge me for more paint time???? all i would need to do the next day was paint the bottom one color and it was good to go... nope, not at THIS COLOR ME MINE!!! I wound up paying $60 plus for 2 small appetizer plates. The only reason i didn't walk out of there was cause my nieces worked so hard on them. read more

came here through a LS deal to check the place out. I am not new to the ceramic world so I wanted to see what was out there. this place is very expensive for what you get. all their bisque is bought from Ceramic Castle in Glendale. their paint is the wrong kind for bisque ware and is made for brush-strokes. I think they do that on purpose because you need about 4 coats to get a solid color without lines. if you don't expect much or this is your first time then you will probably like this place but otherwise try Ceramic Castle or Fish ceramics in Simi Valley. read more

So half of our experience was great. The pottery experience, the painting and the fact that they let us bring lunch in. The price was a bit high, but we knew that going in. The fact that it took weeks to get our pottery back, multiple phone calls telling us it was ready, two separate trips to pick it up and having them not ready still.
