Office staff is horrible, way too busy and don't care about the patients at all. Had several corrective procedures by Dr. Kelmenson due to incorrect measurements of eye for cataract surgery. Have struggled with poor vision in that eye ever since and have tried numerous times to get back into see her and no appointments are ever available. They are not happy to be there an it shows in the way the treat and deal with patients. It's as if the patients are a nuisance to them. I went to Colorado Ophthalmology to get a routine eye exam. I really believe the front line staff sets the mood and after checkin, I nearly walked out. The young lady at the front desk was cold and unfriendly. I believe a retraining of the staff is desperately needed. Dr. Garrett Frank on the other hand was friendly and personable. I believe he is the saving grace for this office's three star rating. Checking out was awful. The staff was more interested in chatting with each other. I am not sure If I was supposed to take more than the credit card receipt, since the young lady turned her back to me to chat with a co-worker. I just walked out. Doesn't listen and uses "stand by" for every question you ask and then just gives a robotic answer that has no compassion or respect to your challenges. I would give 0 stars if I could. Both me and my husband have been patients of Dr Kelmensen for approximately 10 years, and we were NEVER informed of their move to another location. No postcard, no email - nothing. I had accepted a wait list appointment for February back in December. When we arrived at the office, we were shocked seeing that it was abandoned and under some sort of construction. When I called, I was told that they had no record of an appointment for me that day. So first - we had no idea they had a new location and second - my appointment for that day was never recorded. Horrible office staff and so rude and unprofessional. Dr Kelmensen is a kind and caring doctor, but she really needs to get some new office management. Needless to say, we will not be returning to this practice. Would not recommend. Was sent for a cataract surgery consultation. Was told there was something else wrong with my eye and I was not a candidate for surgery, without any further explanation. When the doctor first walked in, he said in an annoyed tone "why are you here?". My eye doctor called to get more information and received none. Went in for information and help with floaties and bright streaks of light flashing at the sides of my eyes. Dr. Keyser was extremely condescending and dismissive of my concerns. He said floaties are normal, learn to live with it. I asked about the flashes, he said everyone sees flashes when we press on our eyeballs. My flashes come WITHOUT me PRESSING on my eyeball. He put a few drops in my eyes says he sees nothing and dismisses me. Then I receive an additional bill in the mail for services provided above and beyond what insurance covered!! (I have a great vision coverage) He put drops in my eyes and maximizes the charges to my insurance PLUS extra funds from me?? I have told 2 colleagues to avoid Keyser at all costs. When I inquired about the length of time I'm waiting the front desk told me I could reschedule and she had no control over the wait time. Booked appointment for exam and talk about my blepharitis in one eye. I stated this in the appointment request, and also told a lady about it who asked me a bunch of questions before the doctor saw me. Really only wanted to talk about blepharitis, but figured an exam won't hurt and is probably required. Have only been to an ophthalmologist three times in my life. Dr. Keyser was rude and condescending, which unfortunately seems to be typical of some doctors when they should retire. Made fun of my answers to his questions. If you want better answers, ask better questions. If you want better obedience to your instructions, issue better instructions. Boxed my face around to put eye drops in. Never told me what he's doing, just does it. Then was annoyed because I am very sensitive about this one apparatus that touches your eye and I couldn't handle it. Puts another set of drops in, then says he'll be back in a few minutes and walks out. Based on seeing another doctor a few years ago, I assumed these drops were the ones that dilate your pupils so he doesn't have to use that apparatus. Comes back 15-20 minutes later. Tells me I'm arguing with him about something at one point. No, I'm just trying to be part of the conversation about my own eyes. Finally was able to bring up the blepharitis at the end, hoping something could be done to relieve the annoyance of it. No, not really, other than surgery, which was not recommended. Fine. At no time EVER, has anyone in this office treated me poorly. They have always bent over backwards to get me in right away to treat me for an eye condition that I have. Dr. Keyser has treated me numerous times, he has been more than generous providing me with medicines and eye drops and has on several occasions offered to come into the office on a Sunday to treat my eye, rather than having me go to an urgent care facility. This is a review about the outstanding experience I've had with Dr. Jason Jacobs - And the whole incredible team at Colorado Ophthalmology. Now with regards to cataract surgery in both eyes.. Having been unsatisfied with my previous Ophthalmologist, I began a rather desperate search in earnest for a doctor that truly listens and especially someone I could trust. Based on five star reviews, a hunch and and a referral from a doctor I have known for over 30 years, I was fortunate enough to make a decision to go and see Dr. Jacobs and the staff at Colorado Ophthalmology to remove my cataracts, and consult with him as my situation was more complicated than most people - due to something called keratoconus. From the get go, Dr. Jacobs formulated a plan to do surgery on my eyes for the cataract problem and simultaneously deal with the keratoconus complications. The results have been phenomenal: no more cataracts, 20/20 vision in my right eye (With scleral lens correction) which was legally blind, and now one day after my left eye cataract surgery I am seeing 20/40 with no correction and no pain whatsoever. I fully expect I will see 2020 with scleral lenses In both eyes - all recommended by Dr. Jacobs. I have been so impressed by his work that I insisted my wife to come in to Colorado Ophthalmology and she is now seeing without glasses completely pain-free - And no more cataracts! So in our household within a seven month period we have done all four of our eye cataracts removed and replaced with perfect results - Thanks to the professionalism of Dr. Jacobs, Dr. Frank, and the well-honed staff of Colorado Ophthalmology. They were also willing to work with my health insurance and we did not pay extra for a special lenses. SAVE YOURSELF TIME AND DO NOT VISIT THIS EAST LOCATION!!!!!!! I was a customer of the west location at the end of 2017 where I had no complaints. I needed to reorder my frame and lens. The east location was closer to me at the time so I dropped in with my prescription from the first set of lens that was order at the west location and presented the paperwork to Jim at the east location. I asked if he could lower the progressive bifocal starting point on the lens as the west location did and he became a little loud and rude and stated it's the same prescription, I' m going to submit the order as it is on the paperwork and it will be the same. I explained that she did have the bifocal start point lowered which was outside of what was on the paperwork. He became loud and rude again stating the lens would be the same and that I can go back to the west location if I wanted but he would be happy to assist me there, he stated rudely. When it came time to pay I gave Jim my card and he asked how much I wanted to pay, I asked that he put the full amount on my card. He then asked me why are you paying the full price, why don't you pay half and the rest later. I stated I would just like to pay in full and be done with it. He continued with insisting that I not pay in full so I paid half on the 21st of August when I ordered the glasses. I called the very next morning to add some additions to the lenses if I could, Jim became rude and loud again stating the order had already been submitted, as I was about to hang up, I heard a female voice ask why he spoke to me that way, Jim response was I probably can't afford them anyway. The second attached picture shows dispensed out on September 4th. - 14 days later the first picture is a copy of the receipt where I paid for the first frames and lenses in full at the time of order at the west location back in 2017. When I got them I put them on and noticed the frames fitted a little off and seemed slanted but thought it was due to needing adjusting so I paid the balance and left. In addition, I noticed the bifocal starting point was not lowered but dicided to let that go. I left but as I got home I put them on and looked in the mirror and noticed the holes on one of the lenses were drilled slanted. I called and brought them back the same day and the lady that was in the office agreed she sees the error but had to go through Jim. I said ok and left the glasses and went on my way. On the 21st of September I called to check on the order and was told they came in the day before by Jim and he was going to call me to pick them up. Went to pick them up, looked at them in a mirror in his seat that was slanted and focused more on sight and trusted the drilling error was resolved. Jim gave me what he said was the initial lenses that were messed up as a back up, stated I didn't want them due to the error and how they looked but he insisted so I left with the glasses and what I thought was the erred lenses in a plastic bag. As I drove away I thought to look at them in the car mirror and noticed no difference in the first slanted drilling issue. I turned around to have them reordered again. Jim became rude again and stated he did not see the obvious slanted drill holes on the lenses attend to the glasses and asked for the back up lenses since I was going to reorder them. He put the two what I that was the old Lenses together and rudely stated the VSP lab did not see anything wrong with them and insisted the lenses attached to the glasses were attached straight and that if he had to order them again that VSP would mostly like charge him and then he would have to charge me. I questioned the possible charge when the error was on the lab. I told him to reorder them and I would call VSP, he stated no need to do that, I will call them and insisted on speaking with the VSP. I told him I will call them as well. I went out side, called VSP, they called Jim while I was on hold to speak with him. I don't know what he told them but the VSP REP asked to let him submit them again. I knew he had an issue with me and didn't trust him handling this a third time a month later and to be talked down to and treated badly for a third time. insisted I take them to someone outside of Chrissy. I advised VSP and the lab already has this worked out and I was to take them to the lab myself. Chrissy agreed the drill holes were slanted and I told her that I don't think he changed the initial lenses and gave me the second ordered lenses as a back up but he took them back when I told him I would deal with the lab on this order going forward. read more

Great doctors and assistance with exams, giving 3 stars for the less than savory, extremely rude, and abrasive attitude of Karina in the optics department. More than once, I've called to inquire about my glasses order only to be cut off mid sentence and talked down to for absolutely no reason whatsoever. I'm polite and patient, I work with people on a daily basis and know what good service is. Karina is the absolute worst, clearly hates her job and the people she serves... be sure to ask for Jim, he's helpful, kind, ready and eager to assist. Never have I ever been so disappointed with customer service than I have been from Karina in optics. Went here because my son has an eye disease. Dr. Keyser is impersonal and seemed to hurry through the exam as quickly as possible. We ended up going to another doctor who said that the script Dr. Keyser gave for my son'e glasses was too strong. And our insurance is supposed to cover "medically necessary" contact lenses. This doctor's office is listed as a provider for these. But Colorado Ophthalmology refused to accept our insurance for the contact lenses my son needs because the profit margin would not have been high enough on this type of contact lens. The Office Manager and people in the Billing Dept are very unprofessional, rude and unfair. They submitted a claim to my old insurance company and then blamed me for not paying the bill. Faye, the Billing Supervisor, really needs to get some training as she has no clue how to speak to a customer! I spent several days/hours trying to get in touch with the non-communicative Office Manager. She had her assistant, Jennifer, in the Billing Dept call me to tell me they resubmitted the claim to my correct insurance company and retracted the bill from the collection agency. Yes, they submitted it to a collection agency, even though they were the ones who made the mistake! After chewing them out and spending time with my insurance company, I received a letter from them that they terminated my relationship there. I'm glad they did, as they did me a favor as I wasn't planning on going back. My insurance company even told me that they would normally have to eat that bill, but since I had them resubmit to the correct insurance company, I will have to pay the co-pay, which I had planned on anyway. I rarely write a bad review for any business as I am a business owner myself. However, people need to be warned about this practice. I went to them SPECIFICALLY because Dr. Frank has such a great background and I needed to see a good eye doctor. I've been wearing glasses since I was in 2nd grade and so I have had a LOT of exams. Unfortunately the technician did the entire exam and I saw the doctor for less than 5 minutes. THEN the billed me $240 instead of the quoted $192. If my staff does work, I bill them at the appropriate rate. Why don't they have the experience of their technicians on their website if that is who does the exam. I can honestly say in the 50+ years of me having eye exams, it was the WORST I have ever had. If you want an exam like this, go to America's Best or one of those facilities. I've been going to the University Blvd location for over 25 years. Dr. Ammons and his staff have always been friendly and professional. Dr. Ammons has been monitoring cataracts in both eyes for a number of years. When I need to have them removed, he is one of the best to do it based on nurses who have watched him do it. Two years ago, I was driving to Denver on I 70 when I suddenly had a case of double vision and had difficulty deciding which I 70 I should follow. Scary! I called Colorado Ophthalmology and Dr Ammons had me come over before they closed for the day. He and another doctor examined me at length and prescribed glasses that corrected the problem. Definitely look for another doctor. Had a really bad experience getting a contact prescription. It felt very rushed and the doctor was dismissive and weird. It was also very unclear when my appointment ended and what I was supposed to do. He seemed to just pass me off to a nurse, never asked how the contacts felt or consulted with me about if the contacts were a good fit or not. Took way too long to get them to actually send me my prescription, which was sent from someone's personal email address... just weird and unprofessional. My elderly grandmother has been a client of Dr. Keyser for as long as I can remember and she was always very fond of him. However, these last experiences are disturbing, mostly due to the inconsiderate and self involved management and office staff. My grandmother was mailed reminders at an incorrect time, scheduled during rush hour though they knew family would need to take off work and drive across town to bring her to her appointments, then ultimately, she was sent away from the doctor's chair after arriving without so much as an apology from the office staff for the "mix-up". My grandmother was very confused and slighted by the experience as she has been a long time patient (+10 years) and she had to reschedule this appointment three separate times due to needing to coordinate a ride--none of those times which the staff was able to notice that it wasn't yet time for her check up by insurance standards. To top it all off, the business manager refuses to return calls and her staff can't seem to remember who my grandmother is or why any of their incompetence, rudeness or lack of empathy would upset me or their patient. I hope the doctors here reconsider their office staff. I cant imagine how unscrupulous their billing practices must be as they are apparently unable to coordinate care correctly and even schedule check-ups. This customer service is appalling. read more
