This place gives good vibes and may have the best beer in town, however the worst food I have ever been served in a restaurant. I've tried three different dishes hoping to make this place my spot, but have been betrayed thrice times too many. The hot wings were reminiscent of the TGI Friday wings one purchases from sams club and warms up in the oven. They were lukewarm, chewy, and devoid of flavor-a sin in buffalo. I got the same vibe from the French fries. The burger entree was on a low quality bun and drippy despite well cooked (not a good drippy). The stuffed potato appetizer was a single potato creatively diced elongated rather than being multiple potatoes cut in half and filled with bacon and cheese (as per tradition). The service was terrible. We sat down for about 10 minutes and nobody even acknowledged we were there. Thw waitress walked by 4 times without even saying anything. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and moved to the bar to get something but sat there for another 10 minutes without even a glance from the bartender. Stopped in for brunch on Sunday. Beef on Weck bloody was great! I ordered a corned beef hash burrito. Potatoes could have been cooked a little longer but not incredibly satisfied. This was a terrible experience from literally the second we walked in the door to the minute we left. We placed a reservation a week in advance for a Saturday night dinner with some out of town guests. We arrived 10 minutes before the reservation and we were ready to be seated, so I guess that was a good thing but, our table was directly next to the door (did it mention that it's 16F outside?) making a reservation should be priority seating. I guess they missed that. The service was absolutely repulsive. Our server made an appearance for the second time only when the manager was sitting down at our table. The floating hostess who was also a bus girl took our order and fixed all the problems with our food, she even delivered the food and was the only positive thing about the restaurant. We ordered fish fries to go for our Friday night meal. Oh my gosh....that's all I can say. There was soggy french fries doused in the remnants of the cole slaw that was haphazardly thrown at the bottom of our soggy cardboard box. I've never seen a fish fry to go that doesn't use a small separate container or space for the cole slaw, there was no foil even protecting all the sludge from dripping through the thin cardboard box. They do give you two nice size pieces of fish but what good is that when it too had been soaked in the cole slaw "juice"? It was soggy and unappetizing. Shame on any resturant that serves what we recieved tonight without batting an eye! If I could give it less then 1 star I most certainly would. read more

Since Colter Bay is under new management, the restaurant/bar has completely transformed into an inviting and fun place to drink and mingle. It's slowly becoming one of my favorite places to go out to. Great beer list & nice staff! read more

It's a bar, they have bar food. Nothing spectacular or even remarkable here. It's just like every bar else, and hey if you're into the bar scene maybe you'll enjoy it even if it's a tad overpriced, but you probably won't find anything to keep you here, nothing that sets it apart from the bar(s) you already frequent. read more

I had possibly the greatest meal of my entire life at Colter Bay tonight. The open face steak sandwich changed my perception of reality. The sky is bluer, the sun is brighter, my soul is now aligned with the phases of the moon. If I could live in a "Groundhog Day" loop I would want it to only consist of me eating this open face steak sandwich over and over again. One day I plan to write a memoir in which I solely plan on describing how this one meal changed the course of my entire life. Great renovation! Everything was an amazing upgrade, from the open floor plan to the new glassware. Service was very good too. I had the elk burger which was moist and flavorful, good fries too. Hubby had the the bison meatloaf sandwich also tasty, but just meatloaf. The beer selection is out of this world impressive! I'm and porter and stout kind of girl and finding a restaraunt in Buffalo that caters to malt lover is a rarity! Bell's Brewery is the best! Only one negative, the music was too loud for dinner. Nice remodel. Open and inviting atmosphere. Nice touches in the design but not overdone. Service was excellent. Friendly and attentive. Prices are a bit high but portions and quality made up for that. Beer selection excellent. Tried two different ales. Both were excellent. I appreciate how descriptive the beers on tap menu is with ratings of difficulty of the beer. For dinner I had the French onion soup and a burger with caramelized onions. French onion soup was just as it should be with ample cheese topped over. Burger was quite good and well prepared. read more

This place is amazing! My boyfriend and I where there earlier tonight for dinner. We were greeted promptly and had really good service. Not only from the waitress but the bartenders were friendly and asked how we were doing when we walked pass them. Even though we were at a table. I know to some people the food seems overpriced but it's fresh and delicious and as we all know, ya get what you pay for. I personally thought the prices were very fair but that's just my opinion. I highly recommend this restaurant. Aside from all of that the atmosphere is cozy, you can relax here. The location is great! Hope you guys have an awesome time like we did. read more

Great comfort food menu! We ordered Smothered Bison Meatloaf and a traditional Fish and Chips and both were delicious! Topped it all off with a huge chocolate and peanut butter brownie. Service by Lauren was impeccable as well. A fantastic dinner for 2 under $40! Highly recommended!! read more

I couldn't be more excited about the re-opening of the new Colter Bay. This was a favorite spot of mine a couple of years ago, and now that I live near by and it's in walking distance, it's even better! I eagerly drove by every morning for a couple of months watching the guys hard at work, anticipating what we would soon find inside. I happened to be walking by on Sunday the 27th (I think they opened a day or two prior), and decided to stop in. The Bills game was on, and surprisingly the bar wasn't packed, but I'm sure it was because it was still under wraps. I was glad I got to stop in and check out the new Colter Bay while it was low-key, since every day I drive by now it seems to be quite full! The bartender (I think the bar manager?) was extremely friendly and welcoming. I love how they transformed the space from (kind-of) an old, grimy, bar to a cozy ski lodge-like bar. They even carried this renovation décor into the restrooms, which I loved! During my visit they weren't serving food yet, but now that they are I will be going back to try the menu. Great addition, or should I say a "Welcomed back addition" to Allentown! read more

We were in town for a hockey event and dropped by for lunch on a cold January day. A warm and inviting space styled after a Jackson Hole pub. Everything is carefully curated, from the extensive beer selection, the indie music, the liberal use of wood and leather, antique tin ceilings, vintage ski posters and, last but not least, the local Sabres critics at the bar, etc. The food, service and beer were excellent. I honestly really loved this bar on other visits. I went there recently on a weeknight with a friend and from the moment we walked in it was obvious the bartender did not want to be there. He had been cleaning the bar since we got there at around 10. He was more than irritated when we ordered a shot and he had to pull the limes back out of the fridge- sorry for giving you business? At around 11pm, there were probably about 10 people in the bar (including my friend and I) when the bartender abruptly announced he was doing last call...at 11:15. He immediately locked the front door after he said it was last call and was not impressed when someone actually partook in last call. Again, it was not even 11:30. He pushed us out the patio exit. On top of that, the kitchen was not open which I normally wouldn't even make a big deal of - but that combined with what a jerk that bartender was makes me sad because I do usually love the vibe there. Sometimes change is not always for the better. I love the new look but I think some of the food took a step back. Maybe this is just my personal preference but they took away my monte cristo and I will never forgive them. I never had their wings before but one of my fellow dinners had them last night and thought they were a bit soggy and the sauce was just okay. If you are a buffalo restaurant you better get wings right every time. I did enjoy my elk burger, especially the goat cheese and my boyfriend quite enjoyed his burger that came topped with ribs. The French onion soup was good as usual too. In general it's a small menu that doesn't seem very focused. If they weren't going to keep with one particular theme why not still include some of their old items. The elk burger was good but not enough so that I will come back for it and there was not much else that caught my eye. This used to the boyfriend and mines go to place for a monte cristo (yes I'm bringing it up again) and there really isn't an item so good that we have to come back for. Also, they need to do something to add some sound dampening because it was insanely loud in there. Final rundown- good atmosphere even if a bit loud, amazing beer selection and food is good but the old favorites are missed. read more

Great place for dinner and drinks! I ordered the steak salad, which was exactly done to order. Whole crew shared nachos for a starter and they were huge!! And definitely worth it. My friend went recently and had a great meal but the bartender was completely rude and asked if she was on drugs? I'm giving it a 3 basically for the food. First of all I work in the service industry and many of times I have wanted to ask people what they're on or something of the sort but you don't do that (unless maybe it's your best friend) 2nd of all made her feel very uncomfortable and when she asked no and why? He just gave her a weird look, which then after she asked for the check right away when maybe she would have not of if not been basically insulted by the bartender. And 3rd of all no sir, my friend was not on drugs on a Tuesday at 7:30 but thanks for the concern. I'm writing this because I know she won't and I find it so rude and offensive to say that to a patron who is paying for your food and "good" service. So next time I suggest you think before you speak because you will lose a lot of customers otherwise. read more
